finally got her back thursday night and she runs like a champ. spent yesterday cleanin her up a bit and strating the drop. finished up this morning. not too much planned in the immediate future, gotta take care of some other things.

right now the oil pan is ~2" off the ground. the back is about an inch higher than the front, so there's some room for improvement there. other than what i gain when i swap wheels/tires i will not be going any lower.

What was wrong with your car, you said now it runs like a champ, just curious as to what was wrong with your car, and what you had done...  car is slammed... I like it, panda had a black conversion for sale a while back on ebay for like $600. Thanks a lot panda, I spent over $2500 for mines, oh well, jump on it....

i bought a very cheap g50  because i knew i was gonna need to do maintenance regardless. the car was in the shop for a couple months getting:

all 8 injectors/harness
knock sensors/harness
all under planum hoses and gaskets associated with removing the manifold
chain guide update/timing chains/tensioners
new belts
fan
water pump
idler bearings
replaced abs unit with a used one (might have to be redone)
rotors/pads/braided lines

probably a couple things i forgot.

president conversion is in the long term plans, but i got some other stuff i need to wrap up first.

dam those newports cure cancer to trade them for lowenharts, lol
 
but this thread makes me like the zenki more now, i've always considered it even tho i have the 94 front end but yours is nice, what did you do, cut the springs
 
and uh can we say skid plate cuz man,,, thats a lot of exposure to the engine comp.

He did the right thing..the thing that so may people don't do...make the car mechanically stable FIRST, then mod the car.

parts and labor for engine and brakes came out to about $6500.

today will be marked in the records as a "mock up day". had a couple interior things i wanted to install but nothing went as planned.

that's what i paid. about half of that was labor. g50s are so finicky that i was not going to build one that could turn into a loss at any given moment. everything that was broken has been fixed and some things that weren't broken were replaced for good measure. do it right, do it once.

Y'know.. the tucked old mesh look actually suits it better in my opinion, than really aggressive blingy wheels would [i]at this point[/i].
It's not all shouty and in-yer-face 'n stuff, which is cool, because it's nice and classy, and period looking instead.

that was what i was going for other than the tucked look. i was expecting these to be 3 piece and was going to rebuild em with deeper lips but they turned out to be 2 piece. ordered some helluva spacers to remedy the issue.

and you got it dead on with "at this point". i haven't decided exactly what the final look will be but it's a ways off. the second version will most likely be a more current look but for now i'm happy with my old schooler.

Props for starting a build the RIGHT way by getting the car mechanically sound before aesthetically pleasing. That has been a problem for some people here har-har-har.

no tranny cooler yet, i was waiting to decide what to do. i'll probably do the radiator and cooler in the next few months but my transmission was recently rebuilt so i have some time.

bring it back from the dead. turns out i didn't have any time left on my tranny and blew it (with the cooler in possession btw). car has been sitting up for '10 rebuild. i'll add some to this soon.

test fit bumper, tails, and wheels. i tried to put it on the ground for the pic but my lift is too tall (4-5" jacked up w/ rubber blocks on pinchwelds), couldn't load the suspension.

I still like the 1/16's better but on this build, this is the wheel to go with.  Straight shitting

1/16s are dope but it's apples and oranges.
 
anyone could come with anything short of a set of 19" super rs and i wouldn't blink. my #2 favorite wheel, period. i feel like i was really lucky to get my hands on this set.

Platform? pffffffffffffffffffffffffffft. I'll be the first to say that I AM SO JEALOUS OF THOSE WHEELS. Not only are they super, super rare, but they are going on your presidnt - here in the states. Most of my benz bretheren from other MB foums might not even know that they wish they could roll on those wheels. plus they are a direct fit to your ride. wow. Damn man, you got it on lock. appreciation value right there.

thanks everyone. i'm tryin to put in a little work everyday in hopes that i may be able to pull the car out before it goes in for paint. still got the tranny issue (no homo) to deal with but i'm pretty sure i can fix it with minimal effort now. the other issue is i dropped the car on a jack a while back and did some reshaping of the oil pan. if i can get the tranny (auto no homo) taken care of i'll start it up and see if it's an issue (i had plans for the pan/engine coming out anyway so it's not disaterous either way).
 
i'm holding off on the rest of the suspension, subframe, drivetrain, and brake mods until i know if i can pull it out for a couple days. if not, expect to see this thing stripped down.

Yes, but on the President you could have people looking at the car and walking up to you and asking you "what kind of car is that"?  And you could tell them it's a Nissan and watch their eyes light up.  lol.  well worth the 5k you've spent on a f&r conversion.  lol.

Personally I prefer the President in both stock and modified.  It looks more Old-peoplish, which screams more refined to me.  But that's my personal opinion.  The Q front is mixed in a confustion between luxary and sporty with the headlights.  rear is fine but the front is where I have the problem.

the late q and president give off the same vibe, with the president being the upscale of the two. they targeted traditional luxury.
 
the early q is the true vision of the infiniti line, before it was pounded into submission because of it's unconventional approach. my prediction is that in 20 more years it will be recognized for the same things it was criticized for. it was a (too) unique approach at a cookie cutter market.

I would actually like to see that happen. IDK IMO Infiniti makes some dope rides that compete with the best of em, other people just dont see it. The new M56 so dope, Ultra class and Luxury put into that car. And the performance they offer is so much funner(not a word LOL) than some smooth riding, quiet, nice handlin car other companies make

i got the conversion through a company in texas called jhot imports. i used them before for my skyline differential. they sell on ebay.
 
the front cut was what made me finally jump. having the orignal light/latch brackets and fender risers was a big deal to me.

Those fender riser would make a huge difference when looking under the hood.
I hate having that gap in there. My Boy Kidzik has also ordered from JHOT before. He really was happy with the service.

removing parts so that the subframe can be dropped, refnished, and have various bushings pressed.
 
ran into a siezed axle that a 20 ton press couldn't brake. other than that it has been uneventful.

here's the r32 gtr differential. it was fairly clean so i just scuffed it and hit it with aluminum engine enamel. i will do the same to the greddy differential cover once it's been mocked up. i need to swap companion flanges, and the mounting flages will be repainted black.

anybody have a good reason why i should not remove the emergency brake? keep in mind my area is flat terrain and i do most work myself. these are the only times i can think of it being used.

pretty much everything has arrived for v1.1 (missing pbm lugs, idk why). next week will consist of dropping the rear subframe, disassembling the front suspension, pressing bushings, and powdercoating everything that's oem (hubs/knuckles will be painted). the subframe and wheels will be sent out for powdercoating since i don't have an over large enough to fit them but everything else will be done in house. paint booth should also be arriving and assembled this week,

no pics today but the subframe has been dropped and disassembled. waiting on a ral chart so i can pick the right color powder coat. all the arms and the subframe need to have the stock bushings pushed out before they get blasted and coated. emegency brake/abs/pad sensors need to be removed. wheels still need powder coat. front suspension needs to be broke down and brakes mocked up. lottsa work still to go.

siezed axle removed, dust sheild/emergecy brake removed, bushings pushed out (need to buy a reciprocating saw tomorrow to get the housings), knuckle and hub cleaned and painted (aluminum and black respectively), sleeve pulled from oem ball joint and fitted to moonface rca, rotor and spacer mocked.

You're going to be one of those guys at shows with mirrors under?  lol.  Looking good so far

it's gonna have to be a thin mirror. this is all for the e-fame. lol. undercarriage pics are forever.

after considering the financing and time constraints i decided to paint the subframe, oem arms, and brakes/brackets. i'll go back and powdercoat them later. same may happen to the wheels.

subframe and lower control arms are rattle can gloss black (not even the good paint), knuckles/differential/cover/brackets are aluminum color engine enamel.

kind of stalled out on this but i'm still trying to get it rolling this month. fingers crossed. got the energy suspension pressed into the oem lca, knuckle, and differential carrier. solid spl subframe mounts are a pita.

also pulled the fender risers, hood latch bracket/supports, and headlight brackets from the donor clip. bumper support will also be swapped because of the fog light mounts.

Did you change your radiator support for the conversion? Or did ya use the USDM radiator support?

usdm radiator support. the radiator support itself is the same, all  the extra brackets are welded onto it. i just cut out the spot welds.

nah, not concerned (although i'm sure it will be a noticable increase). the have some thin rubber isolators but i'm debating even using them.

i know you can't tell but progress is in progress. got about half a day of work in on saturday, during which i began welding the front end bracketry on. subframe is on the wall if you look closely, just need to get the dif ready.

so i've put in some more work, but still nothing really worth showing. i had the differential put together and filled with royal purple, started to strip the carlssons for repaint (more on that later), and welded on all brackets except for the inner headlights. i may get a some hours in over the weekend in which case i may actually take some pics.

This car is not finished and its already one of the best G50's in the US ..

it does what it's supposed to do. it's really just for adhesion/corrosion protection, not high build or anything. no reaction like some other, cheaper self-etch primers i have tried. i'll continue to use it.
 
anybody wondering about the color, or why i painted instead of powdercoated, i decided to pay homage to the original mercedes wheels that these wheels were modeled after. the color is 735 astral silver (ppg deltron of course) which was used on pre-'92/'93ish mb wheels. that makes it period correct for both the car and the wheels and goes with my low key oem+ style for this build.

wheel is 19" carlsson 1/12 in toyota fitment. carlsson is generally mercedes specific but had/have a small jdm line for toyota/lexus.

the car will be sprayed to the original q45 color, kh3 super black. i don't plan on changing the color scheme of the original car, even when i redo the interior i will keep it the same. actually all i want is a stock looking president slammed on some g wheels.

alright, tryin' to hype myself up for the new year (got this pic as my phone wall paper to try and keep me focused). i have come to the conclusion that deadlines are worthless but goals are important, so we'll just say my goal is to have v.1 done this year.

first step is going to be redoing the last step. i rushed through my suspension/undercar mid last year and am not satisfied so i will be going back and redoing it. here's the redo:

It was my fault for building a car while in the middle of moving to another state and starting a new business. The good news is that the car (kouki hood / grill) is now in Texas and I plan to take the grill off and drive over to Houston to Mike (OG) when I get back to Texas so he can test fit it (chuki hood), and hopefully post the results on VSC for others to see (right now im on the road, back in Hawaii). So we should know if it bolts up pretty soon here. From eyeballing it, I do not believe it bolts on, but I might be wrong. It does however look like it fits with some minor fab work (just not bolt on). We will know soon enough.

Looking forward to seeing the progress on your President build. I would be interested to know why you are choosing some of these parts/mods for the next round of suspension work, mainly because I know there is likely some technical reasons behind your choices. Side questions, was the front wheel able to turn in the picture you posted? (and if so how lol) and why futura bbk ($$$) behind the Carlsons instead of the cheaper Evo/STI option? (since you cant see them anyway). Keep us updated!

The reason I am going Futura (Evo/STI was never on my list but Z32/Z33 and Z34 were) is because Gio is a personal friend/team mate of mine and I want to support his business, as he has supported mine. I also plan to show off my undercarriage (lowrider style) so they will be seen.
 
The switch from JIC to BC is based on going lower. What I considered low a couple years ago is not low enough these days. Even with a couple mods to get the car down more it wasn't enough. On top of that, BC is a current offering where JIC is not (although I just got notification that JIC will be dropping there US produced coilovers this quarter). The Possibillty of running an S14 front suspension is a sacrifice in order to avoid UCA clearance issues.
 
The switch to Titanium series is simply to highlight the new offering from SPL. The only differences between V2 and what I have now are in the weight reduction department.
 
The car would not be drivable as it sits in the picture (19" front w/ 30mm spacer), My final fitment will be very different. I will be running ~7* of camber on all 4 corners, slightly sunk to accomodate turning, with an 18" wheel up front. Going for something like this:

So I'm thinking of going for the S14 front suspension conversion. Planning it out and I think I've got it figured out.
 
R32 GT-R coilovers w/ S14 lower mount (I don't want to modify the body so front camber plates are out)
S14 front camber bolts (all adjustments will be made down low so as much range as possible is desired)
S14 hub/knuckle
S14 adjustabkle FLCA
 
The guy who did it using stock s14 parts came up with -10* or more of camber, I'm trying to make it work at -7*.

Yeah, all that should work really well. Porsche does wider track, and camber down low instead of up top on the new ones. They found that it aids in not only wide track but a much more stable ride

Most cars adjust down low from the factory. The issue here is that since my upper mount is stationary I will be sucking the bottom in to get the spec I want. Hopefully it doesn't get so narrow that i run into clearance issues. Fitment wise I was going to run spacers anyway so as long as they're not 30mm+ I'm cool.

Nice. I was also thinking of going towards the same route. Which S14 FLCA are you going with?

I was looking at circuit sports and pbm, but now I think I'm going to try an S13 arm. New plan:

Can you measure the width of the control arm and length from center bolt to center bolt?

Is camber the only reason you're thinking of switching?

I haven't started collecting parts but that info is pretty easy to find if you google the difference between S13 and S14 LCAs.

The only reason I am converting is to avoid issues with the UCA/third link. I plan on running very low static so if other people are having issues I'm going to go ahead and plan for them. I could easily get the camber I wanted with the G50 suspension design.

Gotcha! I changing my plans too.. Ditching the air in lieu of short stroke coilovers and swift springs. I might try short bags on the coilovers, since I can easily change the valving on them to accomadate air instead of 22/18k rates. I'm a little tired of air though.. It's not what I though it would be :( 

I think I'm going to stick with modifying the Third Arm, we'll see how it goes I guess. I am interested to see what you come up with for S-Chassis front suspension though and how it performs.

Should have some parts ordered in a week. I may even have enough stuff sitting around that I can do a mock up setup using the same basic configuration.

I tried looking around, they just all talk about the difference between lengths.. its the "girth" i want to know about :innoutrofl2:

i'm going to start a reference thread as soon as i get a couple measurments to start. knowing nissan everything is interchangable so a stack of lower control arms could serve the same purpose as adjustables.

one of the best things about nissan is the interchangeability

OG & Kouki, I have adjustable S14's sitting waiting for me to do the switch to S chassis (which I may not do now) so let me know if you need measurements and/or pics etc.

this ended up getting back burnered again. i'm not taking in any new work at  the shop until i get caught up so i decided to hold onto some cash. spl is dropping s chassis flca in a few months so timing is good. expect a new project fron og soon, hopefully one that can show this year.

my level of care is close to none these days. i want another car, i got money for parts here just need to make the drive to joes to pick those up and need to find time to get ahold of someone else for part 2. then eventually gotta find new wheels. takes time when putting a plan together.

no welding for you, but you'll need to fabricate brackets for the hood latch and headlights.

No, you just need to make inner headlight mounts and relocate the hood latch. There were some pics by a member a while back. I wanna say mister808 but not 100% on that.

don't know how I've never seen pics of this one, but wow!  Car looked sick and it wasn't even done.  Can't wait for this one man =)  hope to see it some day in the metal.

this has been pushed back a couple years. initially it was just a daily, then i wanted a simple build, but now i want it to be a benchmark build. i have a couple other cars to work on in the meantime to help me refine my style, skills, and network. my failures (by my standards) have motivated me to put more work into my craft, rather than accepting them.
