W140 what rim size do you recommend?

Ok so i been thinking VERY hard for the past 8 months on what size rims to go with on my car. Just to give you a little idea of what im going to do.. Im lowering it, adding the Shine bodykit, and rolling all 4 fenders to get the clearance for my rims. So alot of people say just go with 20s to be safe but then 22s fit on the w140 with no problem. As for the offset of the rims... my car stock offset is 51. The rims are 22x9/30 offset and 22x10.5/45 offset. So i just need some good advice on what to do... im kinda stuck. BTW i have my body kit already and the coils are on its way. Soooo any advice?

ebay is not the place to go shopping. f**k knock offs.

the 140 is pretty big and could probably handle 22s tucked but you'd be better off going with 20s or smaller. i can guarantee 'cakes aint goin' 22" and never will, but thats a completely different car anyway. this isn't "match the numbers", this is "do what works for your car".

coils probably aren't going to get you very low (i've spent a little time researching 140 options) and therefore dueces with even the smallest rubber bands will probably put you back at stock.

you need to rethink your game plan. unfortunately you already wasted $1500 on a kit with virtually no resale market. focus on getting it low (most likely some type of custom air ride setup), then get quality wheels that fit the way you want (flush/tucked/etc., will require some measuring), and then worry about the rest.

The lowering spring rate is 1.5 drop and to get it lower i just need to install the 9mm shims so that would bring me down to 2". Well Cakes rims look pretty big.. errr the signature picture anyways. As for rims i just thought it looks nice and as you see im new to the VIP style car im jsut here to get some advice and learn from it and other then that im taking in everything you guys are telling me. But yes like you said the most important thing is to get it lowered so spring rate + shims + fender rolling... sounds good sofar?

Pancakes had 20s. Those wheels are cheap cheater lip knock offs. 2in is usually not enough for almost everyone on here. +51 offset means practically nothing without wheel width.

word... that's the right attitude to have. sometimes posts are probably a little more aggressive than they need to be.

pancake's old rims were 20's, but without the stance your goin to look like any other dubbed up fool (especially if you get cheap wheels). a 2" drop is ok, but nothin' to make your benz stand out as a vip style car.

i really wish you would have asked for opinions before you spent the money you already did cause you would have been on your way to paying for a suitable suspension. cats can talk about kit, wheels, camber, stretch, tables, curtains, and knots all they want but suspension is the heart of vip.

i really like the w140 (it's on my "to build" list fo' shizzle) so i hope you can pull something nice off. i wouldn't even bother installing the kit right now since it's a knock off and the money you'll spend painting/fitting could go towards suspension. might as well install the springs since you already have em i guess. i would start lookin' for a reputable chop that can bag the big body and saves those euros or pounds or whatever you guys use (assuming your profile is right).

suspension, suspension, suspension.

Oh im from Kansas...... lol Yes that is the thing like nizzan said... i dont want to look like all these dub cars here so thats the reason why i came here. As for bagging my car im not so sure about doing it because my car comes with a self leveling system in the rear so basically i have stock hydraulic shocks that i can raise or lower my rear by going under and adjusting it form underneath. And that hydraulic shocks runs off my power steering pump... so im guessing if bagging is the answer then im just kinda worried how messy it can get. Let me find a picture of a 2" drop w140 and you guys tell me if its low.

2 inch drop isnt going to be much at all .... being low while parked will set the car off right ... or even driving ...

you will need to tuck or be flush to get that look ...

I will search for some pics of your car ... to get you on the back on the right track

Ok so i went back to see the lowering spring rate... so the eibach lowering spring does 1.2" + #4 shim will drop it another 1" so it totals out to: 2.2" drop. The guy i bought the spring on ebay told me he can get another brand lowering spring that will do 1.4" So just return it back and tell him to get the 1.4" then?

i'd get whatever the biggest coil drop you can is.

this is where you need to be. not all of em are vip, but you'll know the stance when you see it.

Now that right there is bagged. As much as i would like to bag mine i think the biggest issue is the rear hydraulic system. If im correct i believe that w140 model didn't come with the SLS. But yes i found some B&G lowering spring that does 1.4" drop. I just shot an email to the company to see if it will work for my car since i have SLS present. BTW thanks for trying to help me out i appreciate it.

intrax makes a 35mm drop which is also ~1.4". you'll still be "exe" height but if you aren't willing to go into major modification that might be as good as it gets for you. if that's the case i would probably go with a wheel towards the larger and of the spectrum (20") and run some rubber bands. i don't think you'll get too much width/offset help on here since the 140 is a rare platform on this site. just get it to sit where it's gonna sit and whip out the measuring tape.

what you mean towards the lager and of the spectrum (20")? bigger rims? exe? im lost care to explain? As for tire stretching... im not sure about some of the shops here that knows how to do it but i know fender rolling is a must.

BTW this Lexus was the car that inspired me to go big on the rims to fill my gap.

exe is a sub-style of vip. much less aggressive.

as for what i was saying about wheels, since you won't be going low a larger wheel will help close the gap between the rim and fender. not larger as in 22" but probably a 20". you probably won't need to stretch much, if at all, but you will need to keep your tire profile down. i would run a 30 series tire pretty much regardless of width. if you're lucky you might even come in under stock o.d. and get a little bit more drop out of it.

I understand now... so the most important thing as of now is to get the lowest spring drop rate + the shim and go from there. As for the exe i understand that too now... so the deeper the rims in the rear the better then. hmmmmm

wide without stance is gonna look funny. if you can't get the wheel to the fender or in it there's no point.

and to clarify, i'm referring to wide width/low offset.

you can still run wide width/high offset and just get it flush with the fenders (no poke) and make sure you have inner clearance. i'd be suprised if you couldn't get a 10.5"-11" wheel under that big a** car.

can you explain to me more about the offset. So the bigger the number means the measurements from the start of the fender width to the inside of where the wheel bolts on to?

Nothing too crazy but i see alot of nice Japanese VIP wheels but im not sure if they have it in my bolt pattern of 5x112. But i do see some nice AIMGAIN 21" wheels i like from autofashion.

hmmm these wheels are kinda growing on me and this is also the color of my car..but i still do like the AIMGAIN wheels.

mono iii's are as og as it gets for a w140. i'm not sayin buy what i think is nice but don't get too wrapped up in the jdm thing. quality euro wheels are on the same level. there is no such thing as a "vip wheel", just quality ans bs. brabus is definitely on the quality side.

most jdm manufacturers offer 112 pcd as well. i wouldn't go 21's for the simple fact that tires are ridiculous and sizing options are weak. those aimgains are sick but are very similar to the brabus and the brabus are more car/period correct.

i would give that dude a call asap. make sure they are the same ones pictured since it seems like he is trying to say his are 1 piece and the ones pictures aren't. if they are in fact new that is a ridiculous find. if i had the cash avaiable they would already be bought.

I jsut called autofashion about the pricing of the AIMGAIN G wheels and the price for it.... 20x9 & 20x10 w Step chrome lip, polished face, and chrome bolts = $1'655.00 a wheel. WOW but that is about the right price paying for the quality of the wheels. Well the ones on ebay they are 20x9.5 all round... i wish they could have been 20x10 or so but for that price its not bad.

brabus is a factory tuner and on top of that they are pretty old school wheels. sizing is usually not as aggressive as aftermarket manufacturers. they probably cost somewhere in the same neighborhood as the aimgains when they came out, and that was in the late 90's/early 2000's.

check out this video:

definitely not lacking baller/vip status and made for mercedes.

MRR HR2's would look better than the exe's and you can go aggressive.

^ Great wheels! Will go nice with that kit. For that price you are looking at only $300-$400 more then a set of MRR's but the difference in quality between Brabus and MRR is the same difference in quality between a wendys jr bacon cheeseburger and a jr bacon cheeseburger 6 hours after I have eaten and expelled it. 3 Piece forged or 1 piece cast hmm...........

Ya go for it. Don't get ones with a lot of lip cause they are sooooft. My buddy has 19's on his car every spring/summer/fall and at least 3 times during that period he has to take of his tire, put a towel over it, and beat it back into shape with a deadblow hammer. Get whatever you want just don't buy fake shit cause fake shit is the antithesis of VIP style. Don't get me wrong about the maya's though they ALWAYS held air no matter how beat up they got and they ALWAYS looked good.

Well sofar this is what i like my cars' stance to be like and this is pretty aggressive as it gets for the euros im guessing.

seems to me you're getting way too caught up in trying to be vip. stop sweatin' the names and whatnot. rebadging is common practice and as long as the actual maker is good (maya = riverside) then what is says on the center cap doesn't matter a bit. those wheels on that w140 own the s**t out of veilside anything, and brabus is still ftmfw.

peep some of the vip pic threads from japan, or buy someone's stash of vipcar magazines from 07-. you'll see a lot of classics (wheels that have been discontinued for years) that aren't "vip brands" being rocked on some serious cars. brabus, lorinser, oz, bbs, carlsson, etc. find a nice set of these that fit the style of the car and it'll come out better than the new hot trend on an older whip.

Well i mean i just wanted my car to be different from everyone else here where im at. Over here i can honestly say that i only saw 1 car and that is a old school GS300 Most of the luxury cars here i see are mainly "Dub" cars. They are clean but i want something that hasn't caught on yet here if ya know what i mean lol. The main goal is just to get the car lowered right and some nice wide rims. That is i can fit them because like i said my cars offset is said to be +51. I see the offset chart but since its +51 that means for the rear i should go with a (-)offset?

i can dig it but you're trying to force it into vip status. i mean, do your thing but personally i feel like the only difference between vip and euro is the car you apply it to and what parts you use. the core of both styles is the same. you can try and make it vip or you can just keep it natural and let it be what it is. i prefer the latter, some nice period/platform correct wheels and a hella slam. pull that up next to something with a "vip" kit, some so so "vip" wheels, and a mild drop... i know which one would get my attention, but that's just me.

as for the wheel sizing, sounds like you need to reread the link. you haven't seemed to grasp the concept. it really isn't all that difficult... it's inches and mm's. think in lengths and not numbers and eveything will be a lot easier.

he had those before he really got into it i think, he has new wheels on the way. i'mma give you 1 piece of advice that applies every time. if that b***h has buttons on the front but no nuts on the back it's garbage. fake 3 piece, cast 1 piece wheels are ftmfl. 100% of the time.

you want that style with some lip (since that is the only reason i can imagine you keep going back to that trash while some killer wheels have been presented to you) grab some work d3s (affordable) or leon hardiritt waffes (not so much).

i guess my best advice for you right now would be do nothing. you obviously need some time to get a better idea of what vip is all about. maybe spend some cash on mags and see what the real deal is all about. while you're "studying" save up a few stacks so when you are ready to buy you're not budget limited.

i could stuff ideas in your eyes all day, but in the end it will always be how i think the car should be built. that's not how it should be, it should be an expression of you but as of right now i don't think you're prepared to present yourself in the best light.

If you're hesitant about the offset, run spacers. Spacers to fit used or limited offset produced wheels is perfectly fine. Fitment is what is key...

like i said way back, i have no idea what you need as far as fitment but for those wheels at that price its the perfect set to find out. if it pokes (i doubt) you get to figure out how to get camber, if it's sunken you get to measure for spacers. from then on out you'll never be unsure again, and if you're anything like me you'll see something else you want like 2 minutes after buying those.

The fitment bolt pattern is 5x112 which will fit because thats most mercedes bolt pattern. But the only concern is if they dont fit then spacers will MAKE it work no matter what then? I did some research and my stock 16" is 51 offset... jus to give u guys some idea.

Take off my wheels and start measuring with a tape measure from the front of the rotor where my wheels meet the fender?

Nah man u can bag the rear, you need to convert conventional S-classe struts.....I have the same issue with my E500. I swapped out the hydraulic struts for bilstein sports & plugged the hydraulic lines at the accumulators.....pm if you got questions

tape a piece of string to the edge of your fender and tie a weight to it...then measure the distance between rotors and hanging string...take in account disk type, wheel width and offset...for every 4* of camber, add approx 1/2" or 12mm

here's alittle different advice for you hella fresh
BUILD YOUR CAR FOR YOURSELF!!!!! you didnt waste your money on a kit, you wanted it..... so you got it. you thought about it for ''8 MONTHS '' and were gonna try to fit 22'' and shut the luxury car game down in kansas....... so do it!!!
i understand you want to learn more about the style, but you look like you dont have your own car modifing ideas now, and would rather just build you car according to the liking of a few guys on this site that will probably never see it in person anway.
decide whats best for you bro. think about how much money you actually want to invest in this project, and mostly think about the area you live. i highly doubt someone in kansas would walk up to your car and say .....''hey man... is that kit and wheels knock offs of the japanese vip style" how dare you? no........if you were slammed with a w140 on some 22's with a kit in kansas , they would probably be too busy with there tongue hanging out there mouth to say anything!!!!! if by some chance there is some hardcore guy on a vip bandwagon out there that would say that, then thats just someone who is hating on you because your ride made theirs look kinda small and not so flagship anymore.
if you have to follow rules just to fit in around here, and get shock called for your own choices , count me out. i dont mod my car to follow rules . i make my own rules . so should everybody else. get over yourself people. we dont live in japan ,even those guys have found out you have to break the rules to stand out!!!

"22's" and "slammed" usually don't go in the same sentence. You are going to have a TON of inner fender work if you chose to go 22's. Possibly a good deal of cutting and i'm not talking about fender liners.

That red 140 pic is soooooooo awesome though.

The fender roller won't help you with the inner clearance. I'm talking about the INSIDE of the fenders. Your tire will hit the inner fender liner before you are "slammed". Just a FYI. Do you have a shop that you are going to or are you going to do this yourself? What kind of experience do you have with bodywork?

aftermath did drop some knowledge but there's a big difference between doing what you want and not knowing any better. right now you need to be learning and developing your style, then when you got your s**t straight do whatever you want. i don't see anything wrong with us trying to help you elevate your game. hamburgers taste fine but they're not ny strip steaks. ya dig?

take your wheel situation last week for example: you were lookin at some ho-hum axis wheels. within a couple days you found a set of real deal 3 pc rays that were very similar in style for around the same price.

categorizing ppl with the same/similar views regarding quality as bandwagon fanboys is bs. let's keep it real, there are just as many tryin to half step through the process as there are cats who preach doin it right. you wanna point fingers at who's on a bandwagon i wouldn't go towards the ones stayin true to the style. that's probably not how he meant it but that''s kinda how i took it.

do your thing, if you can stuff 22's under the fenders i'm all about it. if you want cheap 22's that's cool too. you can have 'em all cause i sure as f**k don't want em. but if you come one here lookin' for help don't be surprised when you get it. and don't take that comment personal, it's very general using your circumstances as an example.

categorizing ppl with the same/similar views regarding quality as bandwagon fanboys is bs. let's keep it real, there are just as many tryin to half step through the process as there are cats who preach doin it right. you wanna point fingers at who's on a bandwagon i wouldn't go towards the ones stayin true to the style. that's probably not how he meant it but that''s kinda how i took it.

do your thing, if you can stuff 22's under the fenders i'm all about it. if you want cheap 22's that's cool too. you can have 'em all cause i sure as f**k don't want em. but if you come one here lookin' for help don't be surprised when you get it. and don't take that comment personal, it's very general using your circumstances as an example.

i dont understand why everyone is getting sooooo pissy at me when im just here to learn and to decided on which way i want to go with my car. I never cussed nobody out and it seems like people are getting mad at me because i can't make up my mind on what to do. I know there are some of you guys who was new to the scene like me and was jsut as curious as i am on seeing what the VIP culture is all about. Well im curious so thats the whole point of me of joining this forum to see whats its all about. I cant help it if im not doing certain things to meet the "true" VIP standards that you guys follow so cut me some slack im still learning. But i did learn VIP are mainly Japanese cars and a Euro can be influence from this style. And so if i cant go o building my euro to a VIP style car then atleast i am here to get some kind of influence on my build.

Green Grundel - As for bodywork no i dont have any experience on that but i do own an auto repair shop and i run it with my dad and i know what your saying about cuttin the insides so im going to take a look under and see what i can do without cutting anything yet.

Dirty - im sorry if i offended you but im just speaking on whats real from where im from and i call it how i see it but im not racist if thats what you are thinking.

Blk- you gave me some good advice and so with aftermath and i can see that you are getting frustrated because im at the point where i dont know which way to go. As for the build like you said im just going to lower it first and then go from there.

naw bro... it wasn't anything like that, sorry if that's how it came across.

i thoroughly believe that you should do what you want to do, i just want to try and influence you to do it in the best way possible.

it's not as cut and dry as it may seem. i came on here with a nissan maxima and fought everyday because i was going "against the rules". you couldn't (and still can't) tell me that i had to have a certain car to pull off a style, but one thing i have always understood is that quality parts make better builds. this was true even before i got into vip. we should all take pride in building our cars, and part of that is using high end parts.

lemme put it to you like this: say you fitted your kit, dropped on the springs, and copped those original 22s you were talkin about. then you pulled up next to that white big body pounded on bentley wheels. you might have more parts but he's gonna steal the show because of he focused on important aspects and did them well.

but like i said, i didn't me anything offensive. i just want to impress on you that quality counts.

word. that's all one can do at times like this, but at the same time don't let the pressure get to you. better to save or wait for a deal than buy whatever "for now".

Ok so i went back to see the lowering spring rate... so the eibach lowering spring does 1.2" + #4 shim will drop it another 1" so it totals out to: 2.2" drop. The guy i bought the spring on ebay told me he can get another brand lowering spring that will do 1.4" So just return it back and tell him to get the 1.4" then?

hi, I want to ask what the brand of this body Kit, looks good..
