Re: ls400 drift car

NO. thats what 240's are for. if you want a lexus drift car, go get an SC300, or a GS300, or an IS300. the LS400 is a flagship car. its not meant to be beat on. its meant to look good in. hoes dont jock cars with fuxord primered rear quarter panels and doors that wont open.

Re: ls400 drift car

Why would it be sick? I dont get the fascination with drifting anything that has RWD...

On that note how many buses are on the drifting circuit? I can imagine a massive double-decker bus which has been stripped and roll-caged going sideways around a circuit...

Re: ls400 drift car

No buses in drifting yet, but there is a dragster school bus.
Anyways, I'm one of those people who like to see unlikely cars drift, but I wouldn't want to see a fuxxored LS either, it has to be nice and no all stickered up
If you wanna drift though, by all means go for it

Heres why:

First Gen LS400-
:Cheap
:RWD
:Japanese
:Huge following in Japan (as a VIPcar not a drift car, but still it has roots...)

So your going to have these kids that want to get into it seeing this car as a possible platform. Lets face it UCF10/11's are OLD now, most of them are CHEAP. Sure the tranny and engine wont take that kind of beating, but judging from the other cars they try and use... they either don't think that far out, or dont care

Summary, the first gen LS's are cheap, RWD, and most of them are now beaters (not a Flagship anymore :2funny:) so let them take them and drift them. The older cars aren't even in the VIP scene in Japan anymore.

Re: ls400 drift car

it would be sick in the first place because it is something different. it something out of the ordinary. if he has plans to work on a drifting LS, then let his mind imagine. but keep in mind that it won't be VIP. with that said, this should probably be moved to "off topic" since this is a VIPStylecars.com forum.

The LS400 is such a nice car, don't turn it into a drift car (the newer models anyways).

Re: ls400 drift car

Keep. Lexus. VIP. Sure it would be different, but what would happen if drifting 400's would become the next big thing? Then what would happen to VIP? Next it would be drifting GS300s or Q45's and before you know it our culture just blends into the fabric of the modified automobile industry. Lexus is VIP, Corollas are drifting and IMO it should be kept that way.

Re: ls400 drift car

Thanks Guys for all your inputs some bad and some good. But as with most things it comes down to money and chicks.
The early ls400 UCF10/11 are cheap. I can buy one at an auction for $500.00 and I can get a 1UZFE long block from a local wreak yard for $200.00. And now JIC and TEIN are offering great suspension up grades. Not to metion BLITZ's supercharger for the 3UZFE. But most of all chicks dig luxury cars. ;)

Re: ls400 drift car

^that's a good point. But chicks don't dig getting thrown around until they puke. Keep in mind your average date will be more interested in leather seats and mood lighting than a roll bar and tire smoke.
On the other hand, it's not like Lexus drifting is new. Taniguchi has his Aristo and an Altezza prepped for drift.
Also, big Japanese cars aren't that uncommon either. In 2004 somone was drifting a big ass thing (Toyota something, I forget what) and there are Mark2s, C33s, Chasers etc..
I'm in favour of the project if it makes you happy.

I would check this first before you plunk down the money on the BLITZ supercharger.
The 3UZ and the 1UZ are two totally different engines. You should look into www.lextreme.com .

yeah dont spend your money on the motor yet. if you get your LS400 for 500 dollars at the auction, put all that money you saved up for it towards suspension/rims/kit/paint. get it loooking nice. those coilovers' specs arent really drift specs also, they are a lot softer than what most 'drifters' are used to, well the ones that actually drift, and put in actual race suspension in their cars.

and pagong, i was reading on lextreme, and i think the heads are interchangeable. you might want to look that up, i know they were working with using 2uz's and i think 3uz's and putting 1uz heads on there because it was so easy to work with I.E porting/polishing, and they were cheap. soo...if someone REALLY wanted to supercharge the first gen that way, i think they would just need to figure out the head swapping situation and then have to come up with the money for the supercharger haha. even with all that, you still have that problem with the automatic. most REAL drifters, they dont have automatics. thats a whole notha ball game.

Yes heads are interchangeable, but the intake manifold isnt.

The newer intake manifolds sits a bit higher then the 1UZ's and fitting a supercharger on top of a 3UZ will make it taller, hence will not fit under the hood of a 1st gen. LS.

If I were this guy, I would just do a single turbo and boost the hell out of the motor....go dorifto

I think you're talking about the latest Ghostrider movie (or a trailer of that particular DVD). Someone in a BMW M Coupe (yeh that's what it's called)
was doing some proper drifting while being "chased" by Mr. Ghostrider? (dressed as a cop on a police bike). Obviously everything was set up,
with cameras all over the place etc. Kinda entertaining though :idiot2:

As for drifting huge sedans... I think I've seen a video of some Aristos doing a bit of drifting ???. Can't remember where or when :-\

Re: ls400 drift car

Well let me try to get this thread back on topic.

First off...an LS is not an ideal candidate for a drift car, in all honesty, if it was it would have been done a long time ago.

Lightening the load of the LS would be needed..removal of seats, sound deadening materials all other excess components would have to be done as well. Power will be needed since the stock motor is 8 cylinders of pure eco conservative horsepower. Let's see ... dropping in a 1J or something turbo will be ideal. Adding a Ti exhaust would also be nice.

Let's see...to compare this idea to Ueno's D1 Soarer...you would have to get into all the details he went into. Titanium bolts to replace some of the stock bolts. Removal off entire interior. CF doors and hood...dry carbon at that. Built 450hp motor.

I guess what I am trying to say is...unless you have deep pockets...and DEDICATION...the LS is not the ideal drift VIP platform.

Big power isn't everything. Controlling a long wheel base car with crap ass suspension and gobs of HP is easier said than done. Do you use the "power over" technique in all your drifts?

Re: ls400 drift car

I wouldn't want to see a half-assed drift LS, it would be embarassing...just like I don't think a stripper falling off stage is funny.
SpeedAlliance is 100% right though, it would take a lot of stripping of the car, custom one-off carbon fiber parts, careful suspension/chassis tuning, and a lot of attention to detail, because the LS has nothing in common with your average drift car besides the RWD. To put things into perspective: it took less work to convert a Paseo to RWD drift, than it would to make a competitive drifter out of an LS, due to design and weight factors. Also the lack of aftermarket support in the drift department for LSs and other big cars would make even finding parts a challenge, and expensive.

EXPENSIVE! remember the guy started the thread thought the LS would be a good idea for a drift car because its cheap and RWD. But aftermarket performance for the 1UZ is far from cheap.

define "good" numbers? This econo power talk is funny. Sure, it's not sporting performance heads.. but, what NA motor doesn't require external modification to make more power?! I'll presume you are talking about forced induction as an External modification.

Which he pays nothing for. The stickers you see are from sponsors. Why is this even being discussed as such? I just showed a "vip chassis" drifting...that is all. I think it's badass that he's doing what others won't even think of, let alone try. Who cares if it looks the way it currently does, he actually wants to get aero...and that's actually a zenki...he installed the kouki front and the car is powered by an RB25DET. It's a competition car...not a show car.

You're missing the boat...

This is a competition car..classy is nice, but in a competitive sport it equals boring where things need to be flashy to gain attention and heighten excitement. Of course it could look better...he plans to make it better, but drifting still costs money...more than many of you think (those who haven't been involved in it). I had thought this was about using a vip chassis as a drift car? Not make my vip car a drift car...although that's totally possible.
