18"'s on y33
since my fs thread got deleted (and i'm somewhat of an attention *****), i decided to post pics of the progress. you can call this a "build thread", i guess, haha.
so these, mae japans ins 18x10 +5 and 18x11.5 -13 (thanks grant) are going on the car:
rims:

car:
it already has insurance coils, peak performance s14 rear multilink (from which i'm getting a crazy ass clunking; i thought aurora rod ends were supposed to solve this problem?). i used to have some eurolines in a similar style that i also got from grant, but sold em cause i wanted to go wider and less aggressive. now, when i opened up the boxes, i was sad since the wheels were different from what i thought i was getting. after a test fit, the car looked like this:
i was hoping that they would at least be drivable, which they aren't. my fenders are hammered flat and newspaper pulled already, so i don't really want to work the metal anymore; i'm getting the quarter panel dent since the passenger's side is already pulled a bit too much. so i decided i would machine down the pad 15mm for an ET of 2. i'll post new photos when i get the rims back from the machine shop.

RB motoring in industry, ca. www.rbwheels.com. they don't have a machine shop in house, though, so it's outsourced.
apparently they're going to fill the lug holes, shave 'em, then drill new lug holes. we'll see how it turns out.

will be going to platinum tomorrow to get a pillowball replaced and to get the car lowered maybe another inch! i'll post photos when everything's done :)

ok, car's out of the shop
here are some photos:
and some notes: i lowered a car about an inch in the rear and about half an inch in the front to get this stance. car has -7* cambers in the rear and about -3.7* in the front.

only reason i say take out a couple degrees is because in the pics it looks slightly sunk. could just be the pics though. aactually, going by the pics they look like they fit better brefore.

actually, the entire point of getting these wheels was so i could run less camber. but like i've said, i couldn't since the wheel spec was different than what i thought i was getting.
and i'm running federals, which are super wide (there's barely a stretch! 245 on a 11.5 -- i would've thought i was putting 275's on them or something). after these pop, i'm going to pick up a set of nankangs and hopefully i'll be able to do -6* or so.

so i have issues once more :(
at platinum, we changed out a pillowball on the toe rod that was clunking with a new one that was sent to me under warranty from peak performance. problem is, halfway home, it started clunking again.
when kennedy troubleshot it for me in september, he sprayed some lube on it and the clunking went away. is it possible i got two defective pillowballs in a row?
do any of you guys have any suggestions?

so the guys at peak took a look and they tell me it sounds like the spring is too preloaded and the tension is making that noise. don't know when i'll be able to jack the car up and reduce the preload, but i'll keep everyone posted :)

is it a "ping" noise or a "clunk" noise?
if it's ping, then loosen up the springs on the coilovers and lube up the spring seats and top pillow ball joint. and you shouldn't preload the springs on coilovers, unless you really know what you are doing when it comes to setting up the coilovers and car's reaction to such loads.
and clunking noise can be anything really. and it doesn't make sense for the toe rods to make such noise unless them things are getting too much force then it can handle. is your traction rod upgraded as well?
and yes, it's possible to get two bad parts in a row. I've had it happen to me before...3 times.
edit: how's your subframe bushing looking? maybe the cause of all this. or part of it.

when i put in the coilovers, i didn't adjust preload. they're set to what insurance sent them to me as, but i will try lubing up the seats and joints.
