Shortening maxed out coilovers

I have tein NA's on my GS400 which are cranked all the way down and not NEARLY low enough. I need easily 2-3 more inches before I will be satisfied. They need to be rebuilt anyway and I want to add some thicker oil for a stiffer ride.

I've been looking around for a DIY but the best I can find is this:

http://www.kustomcoachwerks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2063&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Is there some reason I won't be able to do this with my NA's? I found a few people locally who can help me out with this but they have not done it to tein coilovers before. Is there any "surprises" that may come up during this or is it a pretty straight forward no matter the coilover layout? I haven't found much info on doing this on the boards since most people just run air but i'd like to work with what I have. I don't think I can live with the fact I can't drive low as possible without worrying about my bags rubbing. Suspension is NOT my forte so anyone who can offer some advice or links I can't find (perhaps i'm searching using the wrong terminology?) I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!! - Grundel

^You're right. For this reason, I wish more of the hardcore dub guys would get into vip.

Sorry I can't offer any help but I am sure you will get it done.

Bah found out on another forum it won't work with the set up I have. I was really hoping it would. I guess i'm going to try out the "other" suspension option I am interesting in. Really is a shame though I thought I had a great idea :(

I think you are right. I was hoping to rebuild my coils till I got that but looking over my build plans there isn't even a point. I don't even have sun visors why should I be tweaking ride height.

Shoot me a PM with price I may be interested. Someone locally really wants my coilovers and he has 20's and isn't into boop so it'll work better for him then for me. If this price is right and he wants my teins i'll probably pick those up from you to hold me over till time for "other" option. I don't have cash to spare right now cause i'm paying bills/saving to invest but if this dude is serious about buying my coilovers then maybe I can just do a change out. It's not like I have to pay to uninstall/install.

I haven't talked to that 'other' dude in a while so hopefully his little business venture is still going down (no pun intended). So I guess my thread turned into more of "hey look what this guy did" then a "hey can I do this?" i'm just pissed because I lost my metal fabricating guy to the whitemans greatest weakness (asian girls, out of state asian girl unfortunately) and now have to figure my shit out all over again. This means my benz stays broke and my GS doorhandles and fenders stay OEM for the time being. So sad... so sad... :(

any RCAs from SAGE or EXACT will fit the same task too.

The guy in the link only shortened the shocks... that would not affect the ride height, though.

On that strut type of suspension he could move the lower spring perch (on the strut) or move the fork on the lower part of the strut to adjust the ride height. But this wouldn't wok on the GS; it has a very different suspension.

He used fork oil to refill the shocks... I'm sure that suspension is a mess!

You might be able to find a machine shop that would cut additional threads into the coilover body. But you would not want to discharge the shocks before this, as they are likely sealed units.

Those RCAs will give you about 25mm more front drop and about 19mm in the rear.

If you're really slammed then you'll have clearance issues with the front upper control arms - which leads to more modifications.

On my H&R coilovers, I "found" an additional 5-6mm lowering on the rear coilovers by removing the lower spring perch jamb nut and screwing the main perch nut all the way down to the end of the threads. Without the additional thickness of the jamb nut you can bottom-out the main nut on the threads. The fronts on the H&Rs have a lot more threads still, I could slam the front another 25mm from where the cars sits now.

Otherwise, you might consider different coilovers or air.

Ya its not worth the work. At first it seemed like a weekend project I could vent some ADHD on but it's obviously not. Thanks for the info though!
