rosetta stone

Hey guys, I have been using the rosetta stone japanese in preparation for my next level culinary school in japan (hopefully!).  Does anyone have any experience with rosetta stone?  I am hoping I won't have to take college classes on the language if this learning software works like they say it does.  :biggthumpup:

download a couple more programs. rosetta stone is good for vocabulary and learning phrases. it wont really teach you roots or anything...well at least that's what it is for french. ive been through lesson 3 on it and even though its difficult stuff, it doesnt necessarily mean its teaching you the basics and grammar. look into pimsler as well as instant immersion.

i have never meet anyone who used any language software and had a firm grasp of the language. Sure you will learn how to memorize things, but I don't know how much of that skill you can rely on. You might want to take a semester of two of a language at a university, or try and a japanese person to help you out, along with Rosetta stone.

Its a different way of learning a language. It uses a lot of picture to works memorization rather than the technical way of learning a language though a college course. I kinda like the way Rosetta teaches it, but I feel it won't really help you learn conversations. Then again, I only did like 2 lessons of Spanish.

Very true!

When I 1st started it up in my cpu I was like WTF? I cant say if its working for me just yet since I have been too busy to say I gave it a fair chance.I thought it was gonna go like the usual programs in categorys.Starting off with greetings and what not.Currently im a freaking master at saying dog,cat and other misc useless words in vietnamese. :pat:

like a member said, definately not the only option you should look into for learning a new language...rosetta stone only helped me by improving my french grammar and accent. i doubt i could have learned french from just the program itself.

i believe a beginners text book would be the best to start with.
