ordered me a set of AME AX's

dropped $1500 for a staggered set of 19x9 and 19x10 AME AX's today (another $1500 then they come in..... 3-4 months from now) the store owner had a set on the wall with a +45 so i used them to help me customize my own set. so he let me mount them to my 94 ls400 and took alot of measurements... so heres what i can up with....

front is 19x9 low disk +30, rear is 19x10 super low disk +25. what do you all think? as for tires, i was thinking 225 up front and 245 in the rear. i just hope it will tuck nicely... i know ill have to roll the lip flat, but i dont want to pull it out too much...

Re: ordered me a set of AME AX's

i couldn't find a suitable diagram on google images, so bear with me in this explanation.

disk, put in its simplest terms, is basically caliper clearance.

a high disk wheel will ultimately have more caliper clearance than a s-low disk wheel; assuming they have the same offset. disk also has an affect on lip size. a 19x11.5 -11 HighDisk wheel would have less lip than a 19x11.5 -11 S-Low.

so low disk = more lip = :smitten:

i.e. for the same width of a wheel, you get more lip with a low disk wheel then you do with a high disk wheel.  thus, the pro is that you get more lip.  the con is that you cannot necessarily run a low disk wheel on a car that requires a lot of room for brake caliper clearance.  hence, cars with large brakes standard, or people that get big brake kit (bbk) upgrades typically have to get a higher disk wheel.

edit:
finally found the post i was searching for regarding disk:

Hi disc generally has a higher back pad on the disc which provides more brake caliper clearance.

Yeah, I thought the same exact thing.

That is VERY high, not to burst your bubble. You could have got them for around $2000 - $2400. Always good to do some research before you make a big purchase like that ;)

I paid $2180 for the same wheels shipped from NorCal to Louisville, KY.

Re: ordered me a set of AME AX's

sorry, havent checked this in a while, but yeah honestly its $3000 total, w/o tires... did i really ripped? the set he had on the wall, 19x9 +45 and 19x10 +45 was priced $2400. he told me, the custom offset wouldnt cost anymore, the thing that would be more is that since we live in hawaii, he (or i) will pay for shipping from japan to hawaii. BUT it doesnt come directly to hawaii, from japan it goes to california for some sort of inspection process, then more money to have it shipped from california to hawaii....(i remember he said he had to arrange shipping for some stuff that was in cali) i dunno, i figured it was a reasonable price. i mean, i had a set of 22's custom built from scratch with a cretain backspacing and i paid $2500 for them, so i figured 19's custom offset, from japan, $3000 was about right... if i got ripped of, its cool. everything happens for a reason, probably karma.... thannks though....

while im here, what size tires should i run? i wanted them stretched and have enough sidewall just in case.... getting tires wont be a problem, i work at goodyear.
