400 is more powerful out of the box but 300 is better for performance upgrades due to turbo kit upgrades available and simpler aristo swaps ( not that you could not do a engine swap to a 400)

evrything else that is not associated with the powertrain is identical

If you are modding the motor then get the 300. If you are not then definitely get the 400. I have had both. You DO NOT WANT a stock 300 when you can get a 400 for the same price. The gas mileage is 1mpg better with the 400.

uhh, the amount of money that would get you turbo'd on a 2JZ GS300 is MUCH less than doing ANYTHING to the GS400.

1uzfe stuff is expensive.

You can mod the 400 but it's not worth it.
The 300 is good if u plan on turbo.
The supra turbo block (2JZGTE) can be fitted on the NA GS300 head. So you dont have to deal with motor swap rewire.

I would also go with 300... there no need for power plus gas might go back up to $4 a gallon AGAIN...

i dont think the V8 will last longer; however, i do think that both motors will last the same amount of time given the variables are introduced to both. inline six is the way to go if you ask me. its cheaper to mod and there are more things available for the I6.

i'm sure it might be a litlle more expensive, but why go w/ a GS400 when there's a GS430 out there. i believe they're a little more hard to come by, but if you're going to go w/ a V8, then go w/ the bigger, meaner, rarer of the 2 V8s available

gs400 if you want a reliable daily. biggest thing about the gs is the tranny is not sporty, too luxury. popular performance mods on the gs400:

2800 stall torque converter (makes the car feel more sporty) ~$500-700
supra tt 3.76 torsen rear pumpkin (waste more gas, rpm sits higher, even more sporty) ~$500-1600
headers... $500 part + ALOT for labor.
exhaust.. completely for noise
intake.. pretty much for noise

thats pretty much it for mods.. haha. enjoy your new money pit!! :)

If you were planning on going turbo you should have gotten the 300 a 2jZ would almost be a straight swap and with the 400 your looking at headaches!

Gas mileage in a na 2j isnt an better then a 1u, so a turbo 2j would be even worse. Also, if youre gonna mod it dont even complain about gas mileage cause its not gonna get any better.

:pat:Didnt you listen to the posts on the questions you had between the two? Either way you go, it's still a GS (more out the box or more later, this kind of mod here this kind there). Personally imo it doesnt matter, cuz the scene im familiar with doesnt really care about "whats under the hood?" or "how fast.....". We appreciate most everything. If done correctly either car will surprise punks on the road. You got the car = step 1......

That's weird, I get decent gas mileage in my 400. I average about 26-27 on the freeway and about 21-23. I also don't drive it like a jackass either. Everyone I know with a 300 is getting about the same if not worse.

the 2JZ swap isn't worth it if you have a 400. Might as well do the LS1 swap.
I know CleanS14 is currently doin the swap.

That depends on your definition of 'bad.' I have a 2GS and get around 22-23 miles per gallon and can care less about gas consumption. If you're concerned about gas, get a more economical car.

my first post after lurking for 2 years and its going to be rude.

does anyone read the previous comments before posting????:pat::pat:

also, seeing as 400's are rare as down under, how much faster are they???
my 300 keeps up with ev8's etc, so a 400 must be quite fast...

theyre pretty quick my sc400 was decent im not calling the 300's slow since you can slap on a turbo kit for not a whole lot but i think you would be happy with the 400
