anybody else like to fix up bicycles too? the vip treatment with my bike too. 
colnago master frame (custom powder coated satin black w/gloss black lugs w/gold and red pin striping), chris king sotto voice headset, campagnolo skeleton brakes (front, rear), campagnolo record 42t triple crank, campagnolo record pista bottom bracket, campagnolo record chain, campagnolo superleggeri pedals w/ALE toe clip and straps, campagnolo shamal ultra front wheel, fulcrum (campagnolo) racing zero rear wheel w/wheels manufacturing single speed kit and campagnolo 16t cog, miche supertype seatpost, brooks swift saddle (also have a red selle italia turbo), 3t stem, nitto bullhorns, velo orange elk hide handlebar wraps, gilles berthound leather/cork handlebar ends, paul components e-levers and a knog bettle rear light to top it off....

I want to get into cycling but its such an expensive hobby.  I have friends who get banished to the dog house when their wife finds out they buy new wheels or frame or whatever.  These guys bikes cost over 10k.  Its some serious hobby lol

I am still thinking of getting a bike but I'll prob start off with a bike from wal-mart.  I think they have ones costing 150'ish?

yeah... ive got about 5k (retail) invested. get a used bike. you would get a better bike for your money.

yea it is an expensive hobby i have a few friends that like fixies.
 
with that money i rather buy a really nice mt. bike . 
 
i have a old school fixie that my dad had years ago still got it. kinda wanna make it into a single gear ..

Anyone ever got their bike stolen?  I never got into the hobby.  They used to steal bikes all the time in my old neighborhood.  I once seen a grown ass men peddling a pink bike with confetty comming out of the handles

My bike is more of a beater. 
 
Kilo tt frame powdercoated red, Sugino Grand Mighty Cranks, Sugino 75 chainring, Sugino BB,  MKS pedals, Soma straps, Campy record headset, Izumi chain, black Aerospoke up front, Deep V in rear with Sugino cog. Generic seat post, seat and risers with soma grips.

 The components aren't but the frame is.  Probably get a nitto pearl stem and some nitto drops soon. Hopefully I can get a LEVEL or some other NJS frame soon.

I'm itching to build a fixie but I have no clue where to start. So many parts on Craigslist I don't know whether to buy part by part or by someone's complete. Any recommendations for a budget track frame?

I recently picked up a Dyno Roadster that needs some work. Worked off some of the rust so it's a little rough.

just ordered a deep Veeee rim, white spokes, bullbars, red levers, red calipers, red tape, red brake tube. keeping it multispeed. about to pick up the same frame and run it fixie.
both wheels will have a red rear wheel spoked, front white aerospoke

What's the deal with these damned fixies?  Seems like some hipster trend..what is the point of a fixed gear??

because it's a hipster trend.  end of story.  the only point is that it's "cool".

I took my old mid-90's Trek MTB and since the rear derailleur was busted anyhow, I made it a single speed, but personally, I still like to be able to coast, so I just bought the conversion kit w/ spacers and took all the other gears off. Got a chain tensioner to go where the derailleur used to be, a single speed chain, new handle bars, neck and shox, took two chain rings off the front, and for a total of about ~200 I brought my old bike back to life.  It's a nice commuter now, and I ride it to work a few times a week.

nah, it has a purpose. its to give you a better workout, learn cadence, and a few other things. its mainly for serious road racers and track racing guys. 
the trend is just a random thing that happened. i like the look of hte bikes, and really as long as you dont dress all stupid, its not too bad.

Well, fix gear bikes are made for riding on velodromes, not the street.  I'm sure you get a good workout, just like on any other bike. I remember the movie Quicksilver in the 80's, Kevin Bacon was a bike messenger, a few of them rode "fixies". I later went on to be a bike messenger in Baltimore back in like 88.  Man I'm old....

fixies are the new hip. 


but nothing beats a beach cruiser.
