Is it stiff enough (sus pros and cons inside)

Ok, so ive been reading around randonly looking into threads, and i keep seeing a trend.
 
Rides great.
How, there are a few things that can be inferred from this statement:
Cushy
Soft
Luxury
smoothe
whatever
 
Now lets take a step back. 
WHy would anyone with a low, well fitting VIP car want a "Rides Great" suspension?
 
Im not too sure, so i figured lets reflect.
 
Reason for soft suspension, or "rides great" setup?
Nice cushy ride
non booby bouncing comfort
keeps the luxury name up

For you guys that are thinking, "Why is he saying this?"
Over the past few weeks i keep getting asked, what coilovers have a good ride, but are low.  This is not a combination anyone in their right mind would want. Think about it. A soft damper hits a bump, the whole car drops as it compresses.  Depending on the bump it could be INCHES that your precious name brand (not me, i use knockoffs fuck it) bumper and or lip slams into the ground decimating it into pieces.  But this of course is assuming you are low (which we know you arent if you have "Rides Great" suspension).  So how do you fix this?

outstandingly great handling that rivals a GT3 touring car
and more!

Come on guys, you have to realize that to be low, you cant have a "Rides Great" suspension. This style is ALL ABOUT being low and awesome. The majority of people here (i would hope) are wanting to go with the flow of the style. Please stop suggesting these so called "rides great" suspensions

And for gods sake, buy stiffer springs guys. this 10k/8k stuff isnt doing it. throw a 16/14 on there and see the amount of scraping that goes away.

Well said. I personally like a stiff, jolty ride...it's a constant reminder that I'm low. If I wanted a Lazy boy recliner soft cushie ride I'd drive a stock family van w/ some 75series balloons for tires.

i agree. if you go coils stiff is the only way to go. or go air for the exra $$$4 and ride a bit higher!

if my suspension was soft i would scrape frame all the time, not just on speed bumps, driveways, dips in the rodes like i do now.

this height and soft suspension would equal death.........

Hahaha I've been thinking the same thing and just think, these guys ain't low enough :pat: If its got a good ride, you're doing it all wrong, pack your things and go home.

Gotta have spring perches raised so high it hurts to tighten it more. Shock tubes bottoming out on its mounts, and dampening valves maxed to a harsh ride. I used to have Teins on my S13's, and I wasn't happy with them, too soft. And when I got the Q, I was gonna put em on there, but that crap would've ridden worse on a boat of a car.

and that is true stiffer is a must or else you will look like your in a lowrider bouncing down the street. 
 
what about a bag and coil combo? will that ride the same or better?

If you want to ride low why would you even get coilovers to begin with...  Just get air and have the best of both worlds.    Being able to go up driveways and speed bumps hit of a switch and super slam it parked.   Ride low or ride high...whatever floats your boat.   Of course it cost more but you get what you pay for....and it's worth it.   Why waste all that money and time spent painting your nice low body kit and end up cracking and scraping it everywhere you go.   Think of it as an investment.   I got coilovers at first and liked it but later wanted to go even lower so I got bags on top of them.   The amount I spent I should have just gotten some airrunner or something.   Oh well I still like my setup...  coilover + UAS

Even if you're on air, you can't ride low and have it stiff enough to not bounce around and scrape. For the 2GS, putting the bags on coilovers are a pain in the ass and it makes the coilovers not adjustable anymore so it's useless, at least in the rear. I'm gonna get more aggressive dampers for my bags and that should do it. Adding the SS kit helped a lot too.

reason y folks say its smoth is because they r smooth or they sayin it just cuzz they spent too much and they say it is just so they think they got there moneys worth.. 

but whatever it is, u cant lay low n mobb, scrape, bottom out n say its comfy... just dont make since...

but watever it is... y u think all the gangsta niggs ride on coils... because thats the only way to roll low....  with 0psi, shit rides like a civic with cut springs thats lower than the struts and u dont even know its riding on a strut... u feel?

the valved shocks on kits like airrunner and stuff arent aggressive enough

word. stiff = precision.
 
another thing that should be thrown in is that comfort doesn't always equate to spring rate. a higher spring rate is going to absorb less but damping is what seperates "firm" from "s**tty".

but 98% of people on here wont revalve a shock, so wahtver\

even off the shelf a good coilover will have proper damping, travel, etc. people seem to think that it's the spring rate that makes that civic bounce down the road so they need something soft.
 
i've never felt the need to go higher spring rate (yet).

I've had and ridden in plenty of cars that have coilovers with lower spring rates that ride more harsh than my Buddyclubs with a heavier spring. All about the strut design, valving and construction.

Good thread.  Seems like people just want the look but don't want to put in work to get it.

my insurance are too soft and maxed out lowness. :/
they came with 10/6, now i have 12/8, looking to go 14 or 16k in front and move the 12k to the back.
 
will having much harder springs on there kill the shocks quickly though, that is my concern?

ive been wondering about insurance and final konnexxion coils lately, anyone have anything to say about them? also is everyone here running either tein, megan or jic's? any reviews on the jic's?

one of the aussies here is running insurance coils on his GS and he says the ride is too soft. maybe if you specify stiff springs it'd be ok?
