Which lugs do you use? Which are better ...

Just wondering if everyone has a preference of which kind of locking lugs to use on their wheels. Are there any ones out there that are safer? Like all of them locking or some other theft deterent feature.

I do park my car in the garage at night but you cant be too careful 

I use supertuner wheel locks. all the lug nuts are locks. makes it harder for them to be stolen, but then
again they could just take your sweet ride so it might not matter.

If people really want your wheels they'll take them. Just use whatever, something is better than nothing...but brand wise I don't know of any one that's that much better than the others. Each company will claim theirs is the best.

I just had generic wheel locks on my old car and one day i was driving to a cruise and noticed a crazy noise coming from the rear when i turned left. Pulled into a service station, and had a look, only to find that every wheel nut except the locknut had been loosened to the point of only being one turn from coming off. 

That noise was the wheel vibrating against the hub!!

So yeah, if it wasnt for the locknuts i think i would have lost those wheels. I try to go for the ones that cant have a socket hammered onto them...

They are the cheap ones the tyre shop ends up trying to scam off to you in package wheels. It has like an odd shape pentagon pattern on it, but if you get the right size socket, you can hammer it on and be done with it. I watched said tyre shop do exactly that when i lost the lock nut a couple of months later..

oops, i mean which ones are the ones you cant hammer into?

my buddy had mcguard (i think thats the name, someone please correct me if you can) lugnuts on his ride, and they were ncie, had a spindle in the back so you can't overtorque them (this coming from a guy who has already lost 3 studs from overtightening from tire shops around here in town), i plan on ordering these sometime soon.

Tip: unless you mount and dismount your wheels often, and/or live in an amazingly dry climate (like, say, Death Valley), don't run open end lug nuts. They only serve to invite rust into the open end, and that looks very un-vip. Not to mention it can cause the lug nut to get quite seized and difficult to remove. And if you want to get even more heavy into lug nuts, then you can worry about an aspect of "wheel tuning" that not many people deal with... and that's disk tuning. I've written about it in the past, so no need to go into it again here, but basically, you can drastically alter your car's appearance even just through judicious wheel disk selection... and that includes the resultant display of lug nuts depending on what disk wheel you run

Correct, which can make a noticable difference if you have some sort of cosmetic lug nut (like chrome or colored or even jeweled ones). Also, some wheels have a different spoke contour depending on the disk, and it always looks a little weird when your front wheel is flat and your rear is majorly concave, for example. Or, in the case of a wheel like the Work Meister S1s... the higher disk fitments have spokes that are curved a lot more than the lower disk wheels, and the centers also dish in A LOT more. So keep an eye out on a lot of RWD cars that you'll see popping up in the US over the next few years, and notice the discrepancy in appearance (and let's be honest, I'm sure more than 95% of people who will get those wheels do so just for looks) between the front and rear wheels. If you see someone who goes through the trouble of "balancing wheel disks" front-to-rear though, then you'll know that person pays attention to the little details...and now you can, too  :)

any opinion on muteki lugs

ive been using mutekis for years and on multiple cars...i know people have said bad things about them, but no complaints here...dont expect any security from them though, they are afterall just "tuner lug nuts" and everybody and their mom has the same spline pattern keys...

for safety, get some that fit the seat of your rim properly

for security, get some mcgard locks...if you really have baller rims...id suggest using more than one mcgard locking nut on each wheel...or have the same pattern locks on the fronts only and a different pattern locks on the rears...or what have you...

too bad my wheels only allow me to use open end lugs :-[
i only have one hole which i can use a full size nut so my caps would go on
i have these lock nuts called grizzly or something like that. never had anyone attempt to steal my rims yet so i dont know how effective they are.....i dont ever want to know and i dont want imagine someone truomg to stea my rims ｡ﾟ(ﾟ´Д｀ﾟ)ﾟ｡

If it's not on this board, then it might have been on the previous iteration of the forum that got wiped out. I think I have also written about it on freshalloy and maybe NICO as well a couple years back. Anyway...if you want to take your attention to detail to the next level, you will want to take disk selection into consideration, cuz in a lot of cases, it does alter the way your car looks overall... even though it's such a small detail that 99% of peeps out there will not notice, there's always people that will... and even to those that won't notice it, sometimes the difference in appearance is big enough that they will know something looks different, w/o knowing exactly what that difference is
