Does flush = rubbing?
I don't mean to sound like a smart a$$, but does flush = rubbing? Aside from the guys that have air rides and can raise the car up when driving, are the guys on "static" coils ALL rubbing on here if they're sitting flush with a nice stance?

In some peoples cases yes it is.
Rubbing is not cool or something to brag about in VIP. It just means that your measurements and/or suspension isn't as fine tuned as it could be. Being real low with flush wheels and tires that don't rub is the goal

Can someone on springs or coilovers post a really nice flush/stance and never rubs then?
For example, this guy rubs, right??? I just randomly googled this pic so I hope I don't offend anybody...

he is on bags if i remember correctly. so he can raise and lower the car.
but also his wheel offsets arent super nutz.
but yea rubbin is not cool smelling burned tires on long trips suck ass.
If you want to sit flush.
good offset and camber combo.

Okay, that makes more sense. I tried an 18x9 et20 on the rear of my XB, but I didn't like how it rubbed from time to time. I think the offset was good but I had no camber. Too bad no one makes a camber kit for the rear of the gen 2 xbs yet....:pat:

There is more to it then rolling your fenders and stretching your tires. If you are super low, you need to tub your inner fenders. The insides of your quarter panels should be lifted up higher

I have never seen a setup that is flush and matches all around that doesnt rub. Atleast when in the front.

if you dont want to rub at all.. Im sure the offset i went with will work for you.
19x8 +35 19x9 +35 with 215 35s and 225 35s. with rolled fenders
I beleive charles went with the same offest and width.
reason i dont look totaly flushed is thise garson fender trims hide the edge of the fender lip. before I had air i was on cut TRD springs and had no rubbing issues.
IF i could down my car a a few weeks im pretty sure we could design the Camber kit for the Gen 2 XB. but i guess im to bussy making other stuffs. I guess if i was rubbing that camber kit would have been made already or if we had drums in the rear.. that disk brakes is what screws it all up becuase you have to tilt the caliper some how.
But with the right offest and width no need for camber that will only wear your tires.

I think those offset puts things in perspective for me. I also like your reasoning behind the "un-needed" camber kit. I'm going to be semi-conservative on my next set of rims I buy and use your offsets as a baseline.

I would love to see some vip cars that are on coilovers and dont rub when they drive. And possibly side shots on how the camber and angle of stretch is relative to the fender and quarter panel. Cuz you can ride low. If your not flush.

Like Marshall said, no camber kits for our cars. Here's what my car used to look like with 18x9 et20 on Tanabe DF210 coils. The drop was okay, but the coils are so soft, that even with all that gap, I would still rub like mad. I even raised the car using NF210s, rolled the lips, pulled out the fender a lil bit, and it still rubbed cuz the coils were just too soft. After looking at the above pics, I bet camber would've went a long way in my situation.
Problem is I bought (4) brand new tires before I stumbled on this forum. I ended up getting 225/45/18 Federal ss595s. If Marshall says I'm gonna rub, that's gonna be a no go on these rims since I want a comfortable daily driver... RBWheels has some 18" AME Shallens, but another member Scion619 has them...

Using an offset calculator, I don't see how 18x8.5+35/18x9.5+40, is any different than your suggestion of 18x8+35 /18x9+35.
Inner Clearance: 11mm less (this should clear the strut and wheel)
Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 1mm (same as yours Marshall)
Am I missing something here? Also, since the rear wheel is 9.5", won't I be able to stretch the 225/45 tire more for even more clearance?

Tell me about it. On those springs, it didn't even rub, it literally ATE my tires. That's a picture of the lower springs. After that I resorted to higher springs and it still rubbed. Hopefully I'll be on coilovers soon....

Am I missing something here? Also, since the rear wheel is 9.5", won't I be able to stretch the 225/45 tire more for even more clearance?
Wow, that would still rub?? Thats a lot of travel for coils
Those seem to be some super soft. Might wanna switch out springs or somethin dude
Tell me about it. On those springs, it didn't even rub, it literally ATE my tires. That's a picture of the lower springs. After that I resorted to higher springs and it still rubbed. Hopefully I'll be on coilovers soon....
Hhmmm on that 18x8.5 +35 you should get moer than just 1mm of poke. Nothin too crazy, maybe somethin like 5mm. Just do a pull to make em fit, it'll be worth it
Oh you're not on coils, well that makes sense. I was meaning coilovers, I was just shortening up the word cause I'm lazy. Even for springs, that should be decimating your tires that way. Stretch and pull, and you'll be golden. Or if ya down, try making somethin to give you enough adjustable camber. It'd be pretty dope

I know the front 18x8.5 +35 will fit no problem, because my old front setup was 18x8 +20 with no problems at all. I just want to make sure the REAR rims I posted above with 18x9.5 +40 won't rub since there so similar to what Marshall suggestion of flush (18x9 +35).

You can make em fit. Those are almost identicle.
You might need the slightest bit of pull, but that's it. It'll fit well that way

Does the XB have solid beam rear suspension? If so that makes a big difference. All of the vip platforms have IRS, meaning the wheel arcs (adds camber) as the suspension compresses. This is what gives us the camber, and also allows impossible looking poke setups to tuck without rubbing.
If you have solid-beam suspension, then even if you manage to add camber, the suspension only goes straight up and down. If you have even 1mm of poke, then it will rub as the suspension compresses. Only way around this is to make sure you have the suspension set up stiff enough so that it *cannot* compress to the point where it will rub during normal driving

Cut Fenders and go the Over fender Route! That's what I did to make my wheels "fit". The Egg also has a Solid rear axel and shifts to the right when compressed. I cut close to 3 inches (may of been more) off both the front and rear fenders for clearance. I can roll at 0 PSI ad not rub if the road is smooth and all I do is drive straight. LOL I still rub sometimes but that is because of my own stupidity for not raising the Egg thinking I can make it. Just happy that when I rub it don't make my tires look like spaghetti anymore......because tires ain't cheap.

flush no rub

flush no rub

flush at height, at compression no rub

flush no rub

cant get any flusher, no rub

no rub at that height either, just parts dragging.

well, you can get camber, but people dont like to do it.
You have to cut the axle, cut a pie out of it, and weld it all back up. ive done it once with a guy, and it worked. but its still the same issue of having to have it super stiff.
but you CAN get camber

xB2s you dont need to cut the axle or go that far. You can simply bolt a shim in to achieve it. The only unfortunate part is that people are finding that you need to actually shim the brake caliper too by the way it is setup. I dont think anyone has achieved a full bolt on setup, but one guy was looking into it from what I hear. The xB2 is 100X harder to do than the xB1 because of that.
As for "flush", the whole thing is getting so ridiculous with the amount of poke people are throwing on. Im not knocking the fact that alot of people want it to poke, but hell, anything even with the fender or beyond it should not be considered "flush" or "hellaflush" or whatever else they refer to it as.

Believe me, i am as much against the 'fender resting on the tread of the tyre' style that people confuse for 'flush' these days, as anyone....
But flush does end up poking a tiny bit. A few mm of the lip usually sticks out in good setups, but in all cases it should be able to drive without rubbing IMO

is there anyone who disagrees with the statement that in order to run flush on rolled/mildly pulled fenders and NOT rub with lock in the steering you need to run a big stretch (or just a smaller OD) and a stiff front suspension setup?
