Airrunner install in UCF20

Hey there you guys, I got my Airrunner kit last week but didn't really have that much time to do anything till today. Didn't really get to far since I was busy till the evening. This thread will be about installing the Airrunner kit into my ucf20. Well here's what I did so far... Enjoy!!:dance:

Here's a crappy cell phone pix of my Airrunner kit... NOTE: ordered another Viair 380c compressor. Should be here within a week.

Here's a piece of 1/2 thick MDF (medium density fiberboard), forgot the length and the width but it was about $28.00 at Homedepot.

Took the trunk carpet out and laided it on top of the fiberboard.

A rough cut of the fiberboard. I bought a cheap router and a 1/4inx1in bit thinking I could cut the 1/2 fiberboard with ease. Boy was I wrong. it took forever!!! So I had to bring out the big toys(reciprocating saw) and made a rough cut.

Now it was time to cut the board into three pieces. I forgot to take a picture of where I marked the lines to cut but you get an idea. here's the board cut into three pieces and fittied into the trunk. The fitment was good!!

That's it for today. Tomorrow, I'll be doing some work on how to make brackets for the tank and the compressors.

Yessir!! You are correct. I'm using MDF to lower the noise of the compressors. I'm also gonna use some Dynamat for extra stopping power!! lol

Here's some new updates of what I did today. Didn't do much cause I was kinda busy and things took forever. Here's some pictures!!

Bought some wooden shims to see how high/low I could put the tank.

A pix of the shims under the tank. Bungs are pretty close to the edges but nothing a 90deg. elbow can't fix.

Shims measured about 2ins off the bottom so I got a clue how high I need to make the platform off the bottom.

Here's a rough cutout of the center section. I had a bag laying around, so I decided to cut it a little bit bigger than the middle section and marked some cutout lines and made a final cut.

Transfering the plastic template to a harder material in this case is some cardboard. Then to the extra MDF that I had left.

That's all that I did today. Damm, cutting and shaping the MDF boards are a pain in the ass when you have to deal with bumps and taper that the well give you. Oh well, the hard part is done. Since I ordered another compressor and the Airrunner tank only has 4 bungs, which isn't enough to run another compressor without a mainfold. I'm just gonna have to go to a shop and get a manifold made. Sucks that I'm on spring break, I could make one at school with ease since I'm going to school for cnc/toolmaking. I'll probably be working on the car again this week, so stay tuned!!

Any particular reason you want to go with a 2nd compressor? I've run my set-up on the 1 Firestone for 4 years now without issues but i wanted to get your take on it.

The two main reasons why I wanted to go with two compressors is because I wanted a faster refill time and less stress on the compressors. Running two small compressor like that would equal a longer life versus just running one.

Yes, I'm still gonna put Dynamat in the rear. I'm still debating where I should put it.

 I have a question for you guys tho. How loud are your compressors when they are on? And are your compressors in the open or tucked away???

My other Viair 380c compressor came in today so I decided it was time to mount the two compressors in place. I wanted a clean install so I drilled two holes in the MDF board, one hole each in front of the power and ground wires of the compressors. Here's a picture of them mounted!!

I wonder why you made another floor from MDF. Are you going to do a "window" there, something like [URL="http://www.bigbluepits.com/files/LexusTrunkKicker_op_800x600_op_800x600.jpg"]this[/URL]?

you should plan out a way for those compressors to get some ventilation before you finish this build. I have two viair 480c's running my airrunner, they get pretty hot. 

as far as noise goes, my setup is mounted in the back of the trunk of my gs430, so basically right behind the rear seat. they're not very loud at all. you can hear them when they're on, but nothing that's annoying inside the cabin. the tank fills up quick with two, it's gonna be less of
an issue then you think.

Yes, the plan was to do a window but I don't think I'll have enough time to make one since this is my only car at the moment. My install should be done by this weekend if everything goes as planned. Working on it myself is super hard and it takes a lot of time. But I will for sure post up new pictures by the end of this weekend!!

Hahaha yeah, that's my place. The space isn't bad. It took me a long time to get all those tools. I have a shed that I built next to the garage that has other tools in there also. But you should see my neighbors garage. He probably has 3x of everything. When I don't have a tool, 95% of the time he'll have it!! :biggthumpup:

That wire that came through that hole is from the driver side bag. The front passenger was ran the same way but on the other side!!

It was hard to push the air lines to the front so I used a thin metal rod to help push the lines to the front by taping the lines to the metal rod!!

I used 3M adhesive spray.(not the cheap kind, Ultimate hold costed 20.00 a bottle...) Sprayed it on a clamped it together...

congrats on getting the air in, i contemplated a long time before deciding to go to coils (used to be on OG LSportline suspension since the only coils when i bought my car cost >$2000usd lol) instead of air, something about that look of a big body sedan static, never rolling high or the like :P

I have tons of zip ties but I didn't really care to use them since it didn't really matter to me much...

Looks good mate, very tidy install! How does it handle? I would be interested to see your ride height.

Side shots won't be coming anytime soon cause I need new rims. I'll forsure post some shots when it's worthy enough. lol:hsughmamoru:

It handles great. I seriously think it rides better than stock.

When I put my car on bags (There is a thread on here somewhere, I think pg.2) I found it handled much better then standard springs, or even the standard airbags (I have had my car on both). The ride quality is almost spot-on perfect, it has the right amount of firmness, and the right amount of stiffness.
How much travel do you think you get with yours? I think mine gets around 8" worth of travel.

I'm not sure how much travel I get with mines since I haven't had a chance to go fully up and down. I'll probably figure out this weekend tho. I'll tell you when I know!!
