My VIP M45 Build

So I've had my M45 for about a year going on year and a half now. Since I first fell in love with VIP I always wanted to build one. So started last year working on my ride.

I'm pretty happy with the ride so far but looking to step it up a little more this year. So over the winter I started work. Adding a few engine upgrades, new grille, new front bumper, adjusting suspension to go lower, custom fenders, audio, ect...

Switched my bags from being over my stock struts to bags over coilovers.

Put wheels back on today because it was so nice out. Sucks I couldnt really enjoy it too much because i had to drop it off to the body shop to get the rest of the parts painted and put on. After that just gotta finish up the audio add some spacers to the front and a few small things here and there. Looking forward to finishing her up

Not really.  In the vip mags and shows, the cars focus on being low first.  Being 3.5"-4" off the ground but perfectly flush means you missed the point IMO (not speaking about this car, just in general).  I personally love the flush look but stance is more important.  If you can have both than thats great.

I like both styles. There's pros and cons with both. 

I love the flush look. Especially when people sit fender to lip. I dont like it when you sit flush but car needs to sit lower. I really like the tuck style but I dont like it when the wheel is tucked but you have alot of space between the fender and wheel. 


Before I readjusted my car sat completely flush and I couldnt tuck unless on an angle. I needed 2mm worth of pull to clear the fender. Now when I completely tuck the wheel is still extremely close to the fender which I think is a nice look.

As long as you achieve what you set out to do, its all G!

DOIN IN RIGHT !!! Keep it up !!!

So I get up this morning and i'm all excited to pick up my car from the body shop. They did a pretty good just but they forgot to paint all my engine covers and they painted my grille the wrong color.

So I decided to try to keep a few black accents on my car so the vents on the fenders are black, the mesh on the front bumper is black and I told them to paint the grille shinny black because I thought painting it the same color as the car would be too much. But they did the opposite. Its all good though. They're redoing it now so it will be done Monday afternoon. After that gotta add spacers to the front to get it nice and flush and a few other small things but she's getting there.  A few pictures. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Car is still at the body shop. Still trying to get everything squared away. I'm supposed to head back up tomorrow afternoon to pick it up. Lets hope its right.

Being low is easy to accomplish but being low with perfect fitment wheels take more effort. You're still missing the point if your on the ground with weak wheel fitment. Wouldn't you agree? IMO, its a combination of both, thats what VIP is to me. Doesn't wheel fitment heavily contribute to a cars stance?

My current wheels are already sold to someone and I cant back out on them. That would be jacked up.


Originally I was just gonna keep the current wheels and move the rears to the front and order new barrels for the other wheels and adjust the width and offset. But I was about to get a crazy deal on the wheels I was gonna get and someone really wanted to buy the JPs so I said I'd do it. Now I'm stuck with a buyer for my wheels and no new wheels for mine. But its all G. I'll either go the cheap route and find some used ones or I'll just order new wheels again. I hope the go the cheaper route though :smiley-rofl:

One question / concern: Seems like the bumper is not being extended/widened with the fender. Like they left it where it is and just started the widening from that point.... Isn't that going to cause rubbing if you decide to drive low?

Thanks homie. Currently the rear bumper does touch when I'm all the way down but if I air up just a little I have enough space to roll. But they will be giving me a little more room on that corner to accomidate for me drivin and dips in the road.

What are the offsets on the wheels?

Looks great.  Can't wait to see it done.  But I am with Rodney on this one, its going to be tough to drive low.  What you can do is go down 1-2 tires sizes and you should be alright

Well just from seeing the work today its def gonna be close but I should be ok. One thing I def wish I'd done different is choosing different tires. I'm running Falken 452s and they are def cut bigger than the Dunlops I was running. So I'll be looking to swap those tires out.

The shop is definitely not a VIP specialty shop. They actually work on alot of hot rods and custom old school american muscle. Those guys definitely know their metal work so they were able to do a great job. 

Overall I'm happy with the way things turned out. From some angles the fenders look like they could be stock, if you didnt really know the M35/45s that well, and then again from other angles I can definitely tell its widened. It was really noticeable when I was parked beside my friend's M45 earlier today. 

I'll be taking some better pictures this weekend since its supposed to be nice out but until then some crappy iphone pics.

wow, the rear fenders look amazing! car is sickness.

that's what i'm talkin about. sick body work. didn't notice the fender vent until now either. you should though some matte black vinyl on the recessed area a la brabus style.

The rear could easily be mistaken for stock. Very very well done!

So its starting to get warm and I'm about to get back to working on the ride. Going to be moving all my air suspension stuff in my trunk to the spare tire well and adding my subwoofer finally. Will be posting pictures.


But I have one delima.....So I wanted to either get more aggressive wheels or a new kit for this Spring. Not sure which one I should do... :-/

My current wheels are 4 inch lip front 5 inch lip rear. I'm thinking I can get 5 in the front and 6.5 maybe even 7 if I cambered the rear some in the rear :biggthumpup:

Yeah I scrape the plastic in the front all the time and Lets not talk about the exhaust I currently have a leak in cuz of it hitting stuff. lol. Sucks cuz I paid good money to have a custom exhaust done. lol


The Sumospeed show is in VA Beach. That's this Saturday

And he Liberty Black VIP show will probably be in NY/NJ again this year. Not sure what's the date.

Wheels are definitely taking longer than expected but they said they should be here in the next week or so. The fronts were completed and the rear lips had to be refinished because they werent perfect. So as soon as they get back they can assemble them. 

Now lets hope it fits. :biggthumpup: ....nah it will fit.......well atleast I think it will..... well all else fails we'll make it fit.......again :shrug:

Well New wheels finally shipped out Wednesday of last week. Build  def took a little longer than expected but lets hope it was worth the wait. Pics to come soon of me trying to squeeze them on. :biggthumpup:

Yes wheels may protentiallly be on the market soon. There was one person who was interested in them who had dibs. Sucked cuz build took longer than expected so I have to check with them to see if they're interested still. If not they'll be up for sale by the end of this week.

i like the wheels and i like the car but i'm not sure i like the car on the wheels. basketweave mesh is more of a classic look (imo) vs. the modern lines of the car. then again, it doesn't lookd bad. undecided.

i kinda agree, the older wheels look better than the new one. the mesh kinda made it "sporty", looks almost its setup for drifting.

JP3 were  my faves ..

Yeah it looks similar to the other M. He has a mesh type design and mine are mesh, both the same color. But I def think our kit differences and other things set it apart. 

Its just with all my wheels I try to do something different. My first 2 were a 5 star type design, the DS3s were a full face, and now I have a mesh. Def not gonna change for something almost exactly like what I have. So far I love the look. Something different, and fresh.

Yeah I do miss the JPs sometimes. I often think to myself I should have not sold them and should have just had them re-barreled. If the guy I sold them to ever decides to sell them I may consider trying to do that. Have the lip size I have now on the JPs would be dope.

Forgot to add the front bumper is changing. lol. Just making some modifications. I think it will turn out nice, very subtle, well atleast I think it will...

Oh ait, that's whats up... I was just hinking that the stellas on Chris's M would look better with a bumper like yours on (or the JP one) instead of such an sporty one... but I dont know his plans. Also, your new mesh wheels look right in place on your M cuz they create a contrast of old school but dead it right away with the huge lips imo. I love the new look more than anything else you've rocked...  :biggthumpup:

But I do love his setup. The Job Design kit looks amazing and I love the step lip. Its crazy cuz I ordered my wheels in May sometime and we didnt know about each other's wheels. Guess great minds think a like.

Lol... I love his M too, but he's got more of an sport look going on, you got more of a luxury somber look imo. So color aside they're very different themed.

Job design is yummy!!! But SMITTY yours is still killing it!!

Havent had much to update since I put the wheels on. Waiting on rear camber arms so I can dial the rear fitment in more but everything is coming along. All the parts for the audio came in so I'll start getting it together sooner or later.

Yeah I  like a little camber but not a fan of extreme camber. I just want enough clearance so the rears dont rub as much and I can drive at my ride height I had before. Gonna throw on the camber arms today and see what we come up with.

Thanks homie. The better and better they fit in the more I like them. I do miss my old wheels at times with the full face look but like I said I try to do something different with each new wheel.

Nah dont think I'm going to touch them. I'm just going to camber the rears in some more since its so close to fitting right. Hopefully I can have it done before this weekend.

Not 100% sure exactly what the specs are since they're VIP Modular but when they were ordered I think I calculated it to be this:


20x10 -16 lo. disc
20x11 -17 s.lo disc 

Like I said cant be 100% sure but this is what I asked for.  I do think the front and rears are a little off spec wise, only because the discs seems bigger than what it should be. But its all G. Close enough.
