Buick to go to SEMA VIP styled.
http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/10/05/tricked-out-buicks-headed-for-sema/
General Motors will — for the first time in 43 years — exhibit customized Buicks at the Specialty Equipment Market Association's annual convention. GM says it will display 11 customized Buick Lucernes. The automaker is hoping its presence at the show will enable the Buick brand to reach a younger audience. "We want the Lucerne and the event to move Buick into both our new portfolio of products and a new audience," Buick representative David Darovitz told Brandweek. Rick Bottom, owner of Custom Motorsports thinks that might be possible. "If this car is handled right, it can appeal to a younger person," he said.
Updated: General Motors has provided us with some more details on the custom Lucerne created by Rides magazine. The vehicle was designed with Japan's new "VIP-style" customization trend in mind, focusing on creating a car that is a status symbol in "luxury, performance, style and refinement." Modifications include custom body kit, lowered suspension, exhaust, wheels, tires, mobile entertainment system, interior (custom suede insets and executive style tray tables) and lowered stance. High-res image after the jump…
I wondered what this would look like and fabbed up a Buick Lacrosse. Not too much done to it. What do you guys think about Buick's chances here?

I see being FWD their biggest obstacle.

Actually GM doesn't build the car themselves, shops request to do a project vehicle and the shops build em. I have a feeling that whoever is building this car is involved with Japanese cars already.

Here are the REAL pics. I won't post the others as they were horrendous.

I would like Rides magazine and the people who designed these cars to go away and leave VIP alone. :knuppel2:
It's a damn shame because I love classic Buicks.

the "concept" was a photoshop done by trueslidexl. the real thing is what buick and apparently rides did. all in all, the buick lacrosse is an unattractive car to begin with. it'll take a wonder car from buick to get the masses to return to buick.

It looks alright, just needs spacers, a lower drop, and maybe a little camber. That rear bumper lip has to go also.

soooo they lowered it and put on wheels that dont fit all that well?? wow...im impressed. just kidding.
i wish i could get my hands on programs like this...that batch would be laying body w/ wheels that actually fit the car, and that need modification to fit. :(

Re: Buick to go to SEMA VIP styled.
Actually I think Rides Magazine made the car. It's sooo much like someone who just wants to jump on the trend "assembled" the car (hence being built by Rides). It's clean, regular and plain. Hardly a show stopper.
Although that Photoshop is 100x's better. =)

Re: Buick to go to SEMA VIP styled.
I saw some web site that had a list of all the modified Lucernes that were on display at sema... and I must admit that if you scroll down the page somewhat fast, that black one does sorta stand out quite a bit... more so considering that a lot of the other lucernes were fixed up in typical honda-ish, spo-com fashion. The black one was also actually the lowest, and that extra little bit of better stance, coupled with its overall simple exterior (no stickers, or crazy vents, or gaudy colors, etc...) actually did make it look pretty cool... relatively speaking.

I work at Buick and I see them and drive them all day. The first time I saw the Lucerne in black, I thought, hey this could look pretty good. But the only way I can see it pulling it off, is VERY subtle modifications. The Lacrosse is an absolutle no-no.

Other than the weak stance, I thought they did a pretty descent job. The aero stuff looks really clean and totally looks like it belongs.
One thing I didn't like was the black on black interior. They should stuck with the original cream leather and wood grain.
