i was told to keep it around 37-40 psi with stretched tires.. no problems so far. when I use to drive my car I checked my tire pressure every day just to be safe because I heard some crazy stories with stretched tires and not checking the psi often.

42-45 thats what psi i run, check the tires max psi on the sidewall, i wouldnt go any further past like 90% of max tire pressure.

I run a reasonable stretch on the bB. Ive run ALOT of different tires on the same 8" wide wheels.

Ive noticed the stiffer sidewalls seem to be able to take less pressure. I ususally keep the softer sidewall or taller sidewall tires at a bit higher so I dont rip the tire off the wheel if I take a turn to hard or something.

So in essence the actual series of the tire doesn't come into play when providing more tire pressure, correct?

I know this is an old thread, but I found it via search, doing things the right way. Let me help explain why this is:

In my experience (motorsport background) the shorter sidewall tires usually need more air pressure. This takes some of the load off of the already short sidewall, and while it causes the tire to 'slide' more readily, it won't have as much 'give' which means while sitting it will be less likely to leak past the bead and air down (vertical deformation). More importantly, while cornering the tire will resist wobbling around which can cause it to be torn off the bead/rim (lateral deformation), just the same. Shorter sidewalls and wider wheels definitely need more air pressure.

When you stretch a tire (remember this is VIP 101) you're taking the sidewall, which acts like a spring, off the vertical plane, where it was intended to be reinforced on one side with air, and moving it to an angle. This reduces the ability of the sidewall to do it's job, which is maintain solid contact with the bead and resist horizontal flex. Higher air pressure is crucial on a stretched tire, as you have compromised the basic design of the tire.

Don't believe me? You probably played with springs of some kind, as a child. If you think back, you'll remember that it was harder to compress the spring vertically, as opposed to bending it and then trying to push it down. It wasn't stable and it deformed much more easily.

Not only does running too low an air pressure increase the likelihood of a blowout (overheating), or tearing the tire off the bead, but you're also putting your wheels at greater risk to potholes and road debris by allowing the tire to compress more than needed.

The suggestions of 40psi, etc. are definitely good starting points, but please remember to check your maximum tire inflation pressure and stay below it.

I had a tire unbead last night on a slow speed turn. Luckily it only damaged the inside of my rim! I was carpooling for a while didn't even think to check the tire pressure, when I finally did the other 3 were around 30 psi. It was a $180 mistake :P
