Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

In my opinion, for it to look somewhat vip'ish, you would want non-lipped wheels like that white one above. The deeper the dish on an S-chassis, the more it looks like a drift car to me.

Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

can we have a sticky titled 240sx vip? and just say that its banned from the forums? i have owned a 240 and have nothign against them, its just that it will never be a vip car. its a sporty economy car cheap and good for drifting. you can put wheels and a supermade kit on it, you can even ponder about how to fit curtains on it. but no matter what it won't ever look anythign like a VIP car. bottom line is your never gonna look like a yakuza boss with two JDM hoes in the back as long as its a 2 door car. especially if its a fastback. i've already thought about everything you could do to an s13 to make it look vip and yes, it looks very cool and exe but its not vip.

Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

thats kindof a shitty attitude to have, i dont think anybody has ever called a 240 a vip car but neither is a 4runner and insurance makes a kit for that. no need to have a shitty attitude about things just because i thought id make a pictures thread since there wasnt one in the pictures section.

and yeah sorry i didnt think to look in the for sale forum :/

i dunno why this is such a sore topic

Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

I've never seen a "VIP Style" 240 of any kind before...it looks pretty badass but...........its sort of ridiculous. Being an S14 owner, theres something about a vip style s14 that bothers me. I think its because the 240 is more of a sports/drift car. Those huge VIPish wheels just dont work on this car...I mean, it looks good but as far as performance and balance of the car, nothing over 18 belongs on a 240. I just think VIP style should be left for VIP style cars...the 240 is not one of them.

Thing is, the reason most people, even in Japan, are starting to go away from trying to go so much the drifting style with their S-chassis cars is cuz they realize that, other than the actual track-only cars, the majority of their driving is done on the street. And if 95%+ of the driving is done on the street, it's better to just fix the car up to look nice and be a fun cruiser vs. fixing it up to drift, which it rarely, if ever, does.

Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

Perhaps there should be a 'Classy Sports' section or thread due the apparent popularity of sport coupes getting Vip's classy influence, especially S-chassis.
After all, there is one for Boxes, Vans and Ks.

Well even in japan there still isn't a strong enough bunch of "VIP" styled sporty or sports cars... so we're still an even longer ways off on this side of the planet.

My point is that...your not gonna buy a 240 to "cruise" and look all VIP style because there are at least a BILLION other cars that do that 100 times better than a 240. It's like buying a Rolls Royce Phantom or a S600 Benz and putting a huge wing on it and volks. There is just no good reason to do it. To me...that white 240 especially is just RICE

VIP is not Rice, but that is NOT VIP!

Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

classy is fine...but I've seen many 240s that look classy but can still be actually driven. A 240 with these size wheels is just plain unbalanced...the performance and handling of the car (the S-chassis' greatest attributes)are non existent with this VIP style setup.

Maybe what I'm trying to get at is that a car like a 240 can look classy without having ridiculously huge wheels...there can be a balance between performance and style

But that black S14 still looks badass

Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

that depends on what country you live in(dont forget the SR)...and maybe its not a "performance" car but the S-Chassis is a tryed and true platform that has been used for drift and grip driving for a pretty long time (with success). And you still have to recognize that a VIP style 240 sacrifices all the performance and agility. The wheels on these things probably weigh more than the whole frickin car (not really but you know what I mean). VIP style S-Chassis is a waste of a perfectly good 240. I'm only saying this cuz I own a 240 and find the VIP style 240 to be RICE!

I seriously think that you are making a perfectly good and informative forum go down the drain. Why not make your 240s look "VIP" first, then come back to prove us wrong. Some of these people have been working on their project for years and you guys come in to insist that it's that easy to make any car VIP. I think that's very disrespectful and rude.

Change your ways or leave the forum, I'll leave that up to you.

Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

oh yeah.. don't get me wrong..
i REALLY like s13's... s14's.. and even s15's! lol..

like some of the driftunit cars are siiick...
some of the cars onetongarage pumped out..
siiick...

but they're more of a car u go "drifting" in and crash into
a cement block.. and ziptie it back together..

although a lot of 240's these days are really well kept...
its a sportty car to beat on. i guess its not exactly a cruiser..
i dont see a powerful business man with his briefcase getting
into a s13... nor do i see him getting into a xB.. but at least
the xB is still a k-car which yields a pretty nice result when u
go with the vip-style approach. aggressive wheels that are worth
more than the car is cool,, but thats about as soon as rolling on a caddy
that as a speaker system more $$$ than the car. might as well
drive a wooferbox down the street..

i honestly can't stand seeing any more 14" wheels on a s13..
or 15" wheels on a s14.. its just gross.. nicer wheels.. better mods
is better than the homedepot frontlip with the stupid japanese
beginner driver magnetic sticker..

I think the person who chooses to vipstyle a "s-chassis" doesnt really care about performance and agility. Is the car rice to the person who built the car? probably not, then again vipstyle is mainly about aesthetics. In the world today, if anything that is not practical on a car, its rice.

Because nearly every week there's a "vip styling an s chassis" thread or at least comment. It gets tiresome.
The rest of the car owners either put up or shut up, but lately the 240SX presence has been overwhelming, so people are getting a bit tender about it.

That's actually exactly the point... out of the 365 days a year, how many do you spend just driving your car normally on a street vs. on the track? And it is exactly for that reason that folks in japan are realizing that there's something to be said about modifying their cars to be more fun on the street than the track. Ironically, a lot of the crazily "VIP" modified Silvias/180s over there end up seeing quite a bit of track time anyways... I'd even bet those cars are on the track more often, and perform better, than the majority of 240s over here. VIP style isn't about false pretenses... they're not *trying* to be race car-like.

yeesh, sorry, forget i asked, just was wondering if anybody had any pictures. didnt intend to cheese everyone off. for the record my 240 is a pos, i dont make any claim that it is vip if that was somehow misconstrued in my posts, and i joined this board because i have a y33 that i have latley been learning about. i dont even think ive mentioned my 240 at all except i used an example pic to help explain how to do wheel fitment in the wheels and tires forum. i guess lock this thread or somthing

Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

There are tons of comments and nothing is just. Why should be we all get along and maybe, just like the other members said.

"VIP s-chassis" or the "VIP Coupe" 240's/Sc's etc etc. will be distinguished if they want to go that route.

You cant stop 240 owners to put out 19's or 20's or maybe even 21's radiused/tucked wheel and chassis slammed to the ground and use the car for weekend leisure use.

So that's all it take to be VIP, wheels and a drop? The why bother getiing luxury cars to VIP, lets just all buy cars, max out the wheels and slam it. Am I getting the formula right? I had no idea it was that simple to make anything vip.

The point is, you cannot distinguish anything if the forum is being overwhelmed with something as non traditional as coupes and 240s. Just by comparing the number of luxury cars to whatever else is out there, this forum will turn into something I would not rather say. And eventhough I'm an admin, I don't own this site, so it will be up to the owner to decided which direction he want to go to.

Oh well, I guess it's time to say good bye to the good old times.

Okay, im sorry, maybe i forgot the whole make it nice with bodykit, paint, full interior, audio and a built motor(because my 240 isnt going to stay with 19's and lowered only).. like i posted before it depends on the owner if he/she goes with drift/JDM whatever style they would like to go.

5. alot fo people always also say that if vip compnies dont offer products for it (garson, insurance, JP, etc) then it shouldnt be considered vip...

a.  (Mercer, this is "busted s14" from the viceroy board)

b. mercer is actually a very knowledgeable person, but he knows not to overstep his boundaries, hes still learning about vip ish as am i.

c. i own a s14, its not vip, its a built drift car, call it cheesy, call it whatever, 400hp is plenty of power for the streets as well as the track, whatever track it may be... either way, is my car a race car? yes, is it a street car? yes. but am i going to make it look nice along the way...? of course..

d. I dont care about dipping into the vip style or not, i run Fabulous Profounds, make fun of me!! others do, calling my s*** "nig*er wheels" when they are actually clueless... oh well. Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

I'm gonna have to counter that last statement by saying that the 326 Power cars are Vip Inspired, Classy Sports, Auto Luxury...whatever, but real Vip for this reason: they're not Vip platforms.

It is easy to confuse True Vip and Vip Inspired though, because you can use Vip as a class or as an adjective indicating a similarity to Vip cars. So because someone calls it Vip may not always mean they're saying it's a real Vip car, merely that it is their source of inspiration.

mainly sedans, and usually the flag ship car of the company.

first off, lets get this straight... all you did in your "furious" requoting of my "reply" was agree with me and try to elaborate when there is nothing else to say...

Secondly, im not mad, im not trying to make my 240sx vip... if you read what i wrote, i clearly state .... that...

A. im not trying to make a VIP S-chassis its a beat ass drift car.., i just like Fabulous wheels, and...

B. the 326 s14 is the closest thing an s-chassis will get towards the vip style, big deal, ... im not leaing, so deal with it

I love how people always coem onto forums and make a big deal about something so miniscule

WOW ,and even after re-reading my post it clearly states that im not out to make my s14 vip.... its just makes my stomach cringe when i see people skim a post and get so worked up over the fact that they might be able to flame someone before someone else does that they miss the main objective...

The truth is, you spent all that time copying and pasting the "
" html's that you totally lost sight of what i was puting across to the others on the forum... and whats worse, all you are doing is agreeing with my points for the majority of it...

so now caoboy i post a new question... heres the brain-buster...

Q: what side am i on?

side 1 = me thinking s-chassis can be as vip as any other big 4 door whatever

side 2 = me thinking vip cannot be that which is a s-chassis

both are wrong, the right answer is....

FUCKIT ALL... if you like something do it, if you dont care , then you'll be happier, and truthfully, if i want to roll with 4k dollar wheels on my 5k dollar s14, then deal with it... life's too short to worry about what everyone else is doing

Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

chmercer,
You just have to realize that people round these here parts don't be takin kindly to no 240 owner. ;D
And with the transfer from 240's to vip chassis I've seen on here, I don't blame them. It's similar to the influx of honda owners we saw on the 240 boards, but imagine the honda owners still owning their hondas. It's as welcome as Quagmire crashing a feminist party. It's totally reasonable for feathers to be ruffled.
Over a year ago I used to talk about 240's on here, but now, I rarely post, just browse and admire everyone cars. Even though you and I have some of the nicest 240's out there, I'd no longer even think of posting a pic of my car up due to the attitude towards 240's. I'd sooner attempt to post a pic of my evo or supra with no vip-influence rather than post up my 240 with weds Cerberus on it now.
In the other sedans section, you'll find lots of vip-influenced cars, and many are warmly accepted but not 240's. 240SX has become an evil word that induces a pavlovian style reflex in members on this forum.
It's actually made me afraid to speak to V8-aristo in person because I'm sure he thinks I'm scum for even owning a 240 (I'm down to one at this point).
But I've come to terms with what keeps vip true, and that some chassis will never be accepted. So I still have my love for vip, and I've been on here for a couple years now and feel it would be a waste to to just throw away my love for it at this point, so I just kinda lurk around.
Consider me to be a ghost in the machine, warning you as to how things are around here, chmercer. ;)

Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

I dont want to speak for the others think you will find that V8 Aristo, myself or even van have nothing against 240-owners in general, but its true that the ones that claim to be vip-inspired, vip styled or even straight out vip can ruffle feathers

As you said, it would be similar to me rocking up to a drift event in a riced up civic with 'R33 kit', chrome Giovani spaghettini boscaiola rims and a 'drift wing', then saying "i live to drift!" "what do you think of my drift styled car?"

As a whole, 2-door sports cars tend not to look very vip, no matter what you do to it - thats not hate, just observations

You have known me long enough to know what my views are to VIP Yuri. Eventhough I work on different cars, I never mix them up to invent a new style.

i'd actually argue that a better 2 door vip look can be had with a w140 coupe:

but i suppose that's neither here nor there, given that this thread is about a 240sx, and the stubborn minds of some people being unable to accept the fact that in no way shape or form is a 240sx a vip car. whether or not it's a car that can look good is apparently lost on quite a few people. in a sense, this thread is a microchosm of this forum, where people get lost in what is and isn't vip, and get hurt and upset when their non-traditional chassis isn't readily accepted. people seem to be unable to build a car how they see fit, but rather seem to require that someone on this board accept their car as vip.

Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

"Drifting is a functionality issue, but same could be said about VIP cars. It doesn't take much to slam a car, redo interior and get some crazy aggressive wheels."

That's how most people see it, like DUB style.

You guys the "elitest" VIP guys see it NOT the same way, you know the requirements to be real VIP. Just settle it there. You have more knowledge in the VIP game than the new dudes now, I don't understand the hate. Stupid people have been jumping bandwagons for years. There's not much you can do about it. Take it in stride, or complain about it and make yourselves mad, it's up to you.

VIP is exclusive, for people that can play around with their money, most idiots can't afford nice things, or afford to build nice cars, they won't be here for long.

Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

to clarify, I never said no 2 door cars can look vip styled, i was talking about 2 door sports cars. Those cars posted above are LUXURY cars first and foremost, they just happen to have 2 doors. 240s are sports cars first and foremost. No matter what you do to them they still look sporty to me.

Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

I have to agree with Dominik. 240 is not a VIP car, however it can be done up VIP style. Almost any car can be done up VIP style, except for MAYBE a few exceptions like ferraris, rx-7, supra, or lambos? Don't quote me on that though but i'd like to see those cars listed as VIP style, if there are pictures.

Which is why I made the comment I did.
I know you are true to vip, and thus felt comfortable joking about it.
Although if that's the way you really feel about me and my cars, than ouch.

My feelings are this.
If doing something makes you happy, then do it.
Whether it's sticking to the vip formula and making a gorgeous GS, or lifting a DeLorean into a 909 style offroader, do what feels right to you.

I now just do what I feel looks right. It's what's been ingrained in my mind since graduating from car design.
Poyet sticks true to the style and has a beautiful GS as a result, with plenty of his own ingenuity in his car. I highly respect him for that.
And while I feel now that VIP should stay true to VIP, it's not what I see myself doing.
For example, I love two-doors. I can't see myself in a sedan, and as a result can longer see myself buying my favorite vip-platform, a first-gen Infiniti M45.
As I've stated before, I think the vip style is the most beautiful automotive style there is. It's classy, refined, subtle, and is all about maintaining proper proportions.
So ironically, I want to combine my favorite car, the MkIII toyota supra with my favorite style, and as a result is going against everything vip-style is.
This appears to be what autofashion is about, what used to be refered to as vip-style.
So is Autofashion not an accepted style now?
That's the image I get from this thread.
I'm not arguing, I just actually want to know.

While I may have some disagreements with the statement a 240SX can't be vip-influenced, I fully agree that coupes of any kind can't be vip.
We all know that this has been covered a hundred times previously in various threads on this forum, and has no use to be constantly brought up.
But if there is no place for autofashion as a offshoot of vip, then is it a whole new style that warrants a seperate forum?
I am not intentionally trying to piss-off anyone with my posts, I'm just bringing up points that I feel should be discussed as vip and it's variants grow bigger and more into view of the mainstream.

It's actually "Auto Luxury", but yes, any car can be styled like this according to Falken. And as far as I know, there is not such forum or website for this style yet. I agree that there should be one, but no one has taken initiative to do so. And from what I've been seeing on this forum, there are a lot of people out there wanting to go luxury on other types of cars.

I hear complaints on here all the time on why are the older members having an "elitist" attitude on traditional platforms. But as you know Yuri, this was not always true. When you were active on this forum, there was only a handfull of 2dr sports wanting to go luxury. These members were eager to learn and was polite about asking for advise, they also knew where to post. They knew that they were going into a forum that was specifically made for a completely different platform from what they have. But that has changed now.

Re: any vip-ish s chassis?

Thank you for clearing things up Poyet.
You especially made a good point on the way things used to be.
I have noticed a lack of respect by some newer people towards the older members.

Do you think it would be innappriate to propose an Auto-luxury subforum on vipstylecars?
Although it is an offshoot of vip, vip is the closest genre that autoluxury has.
Maybe even just rename "other sedans" to autoluxury?
I understand if this doesn't fit in with the plans for the site, and if not, I will try to get advice from my friends who run forums on starting an autoluxury specific forum, since I feel there is enough interest.

It's up to the forum owner if he wants to do an Auto Luxury subforum and I think it will make sense to have one. Starting up another forum is going to be difficult since not a lot of people know the style by name yet. Another point to make would be the acceptance of Auto Luxury, since it's not an established style and don't have root in Japan. I think Auto Luxury will has more potential than VIPstyle to seceed here in the US, just because it's doesn't have a limitation on platforms.
