Bag opinions

Well the time is almost here, i've been building my airride for a little while now, and have come to the hardest decision for me so far...what bags to run......there are pros and cons to all the bags..but don't know what the best and most reliable and most comfortable ride would be, any opinions are welcome:

firestone (weather damage and ballooning)

slam specialties (don't go down as much as most b/c of internal bump stop)

universal air suspension (don't know much about these bags honestly)

opinions from anyone on any of these bags? or any other companies ya'll can throw into the mix?

Universal is call universal for reason. Go Air-Runner.

i really don't like the air runner system honestly, everyone keeps running their mouths about it, its kyb shocks with firestone bags and a firestone compressor, and i feel the components that i'm running so far are equal to if not better then those of the air runner system honestly, but right now i am running hks struts and shocks (from my coilovers) and plan on keeping them with the system i'm building

**disclaimer** I am in now way bashing air runner or any of their users, its just honestly my personal opinion, which i'm sure we all have ;)

i've always liked contitechs..i'm guessing u got an xb?? my friend runs slams and it gets down pretty low on the rear of an xb..he has the airlift front strut suspension and it sucks..bad bad camber and very bumpy ride..if u wanna keep ur strut, go with universal air but i would go w/ airrunner..if money isnt an option..i don't like their system that comes w/ the strut, but the air strut itself is the best on the market i believe

thats what i was gonna say. We use a ton of Contitech bags and theyve been very good to us. We've used almost every brand of bag and i feel the most secure when using contitechs. and go w/ Viair compressors. 

and im with you about Air Runner. theyre def good and reliable, but u can have a setup that is equal or even better for about half the price is you put the kit toegther yourself.

have u gone about putting ur own kits together?? i would like to know how you did them..i figured the only way was with a strut and getting a bag such as the universal air bags which i heard have rubbing issues most of the time..

you can go with SMC cans and you may want to hit up whynotfab.com for that air stuff since they are in the same state as you.
dont forget to get the viair rebuild kit just incase you need it.

Is there like a LIST of what is needed for a BAG system?!

I have no clue...what to use or even where to look for.

and thats basically waht i did, i checked out acrophobia.net (truck club) and some other mini trucker sites, i just can't find much info about bags, a lot of them say slam bags......but i just don't know about the bumpstop

Check out Layitlow.com it's a lowrider website but they can help you with airbags...........oh yeah and say you love teh raiders~!@LOL

bags, shocks, struts, or cylinders

gauges/multi gauges

you figure you buy all the stuff seperately and pay for the labor. it probably save you a little bit MAYBE. most of these peeps dont want problems thats why i think airrunner is a good setup and you pay for what you get and its all there. pretty much get it installed and pretty much you wont here any complaints about anything. think about it, you got to figure out what stuff you want, then of course you pay for it, then you think its not gonna work so you buy more stuff and so on and so forth, then that adds up. building a custom air suspension will cost a fortune especially if you aint got no hook ups

hmm not really tho. here we'll bag pretty much anything for $3500 INSTALLED w/ top quality parts. That doesnt include 4-links or anything for trucks, but for most thats what we charge. Figure buying Air Runner for 4 grand, and having it profesionally installed so you wont have any problems and you're looking at around 5 grand. I dont have anything against Air Runner, I just feel there are cheaper ways of going that will work just as well. Also, they use pushlock fittings, which i HATE.

not try'n 2 throw this thread off track but i thought these question might be relevant...

i've seen some cars that park for a week end up drop'n 4 inches and have an empty air tank because of an air leak that they can't find. they have done the soapy water test but the leak is so slow that nothing bubbles up.


does anybody out there have a setup that "does not" have some sort of air leak? (small leak, slow leak, etc..)

if so, what components do you have?

i here you, but air runner is about 4200 and thats with installation. you pay for the kit and the install is free. if course the best part of it is that its all bolt on. no cutting or shaving.


push lock fittings, are those the ones you just push the lines through and thats it and it just locks when you yank them? thats not what the airrunner comes with. it comes with the ones you put through the fitting then the other end has a lock nut

at times ill have my car sitting for a week to 1.5 week and ill wont lose pressure. the tank will but not the struts. i think its because its manual valves.

push to connects- you just push through
compression fittings- peice that goes into air line with locking nut ;)

im a cylinder kinda guy, they may not be as dependable. but for $50 a pop just replace and ride out

cool thanks. then the airrunner has compression fittings

i'm going to try the push to connects for now, i think when it comes to the airline fittings, everyone has their opinions, and i've personally seen push to connects hold up to a lot of weight and damage and still work good, one of the main things to look at though....IS THIS PART DOT APPROVED???!!! and every single part i'm running so far is DOT approved ;)...safety first

and as for the bags i'm running, i think i'll give the contitecs a shot and see how those do...i'll post up when i'm done, but i'm almost done with all of my parts, but i'll post a full parts list and pics when i'm finished ;)

Thats in Cali only right? No such shop has an agreement like that with Air Runner in Houston that I know of.

im a fan of them as well. i had them on my GS and loved em, and never had a single issue.



yes, push locks are what u said. Thats good if they switched, because i know they used to use push-locks. And yeah where is the shop doing them for that much installed?? Thats a sick deal. Is that for scion's and smaller cars, or bigger cars like sedans? because i know the scions kits are a grand less than others.

What do you guys do with cars that use struts usually? Or in the case of a car that can't fit regular size diameter bags in its strut towers...? I'm just curious what are fair rates to charge for custom work nowadays...

it depends, we use cylinders alot, but lately we've been doing alot custom bag struts that we build here, 10 way adjustable. its hard to say what fair rates are, the big factor is location.

wow too bad they are not in texas. Makes me want to ship my car to Cali for work as most of the shops in Houston can never do the work I want. And if they can its never exactly they way I want it! 

Also what do you guys think is the best setup you can buy that isnt in a kit form, If i was going to buy all the differnt parts what would be the best Air setup?

i'd do conitech bags, 1/2 hard lines, electric valves. engine driven compressor or two oasis xd 3000, two 8 gallion air tanks, 10 switch box, etc.
