Not so VIP

What's up guys been lurking here for a long time and been tossing around the idea of building a VIP car but for the last 4 years or so drifting has my attention. I have always loved big body 4 doors and I got this Cressida about 5 months ago. Right now its exploded and sitting in my driveway awaiting my 1j from the machine shop. I already bought wheels but I need to get some coilovers to get the stance right.

These pictures are just from a test fit the camber is 0 all around and the fenders aren't even touched yet but needless to say its going to need a fair amount of work to make them fit under the stock metal.

F:235/4018 R:245/40/18

pretty crazy... 225/40 and 215/40 would be a start :P

225 is a pretty crazy stretch for me to slide on maybe a 235 is what my plans are and maybe the 215 on the 10.

nice!!! Slam it on some coils and add some camber and more stretch, it's gonna look clean

Thanks motor comes first though since the car doesn't drive without it. No sense looking good while rusting away.

I'm digging the Cressida and wheels...but not sure if I'm digging that much poke. Doing your own thing though :)

Can i make a suggestion? Rethink the "stock metal" idea when you have this much poke?
 
Its all good and that to have the title of "lowest offset on a stock body cressida" (for 10 minutes until the next number chaser outdoes you), but it will look 100x better if you keep the tyres you have now and just add 1" of metal flares to the car. Any competant bodyshop should be able to do it for you, and if you use sheet metal from another car (i.e. a golf or something that has OEM flares) it will be even cheaper.
 
I'm really not a fan of US/drifter style of paper thin fenders pulled into a ski-jump style 'flare' to cover wheels that really dont the car. In Japan its just simple. Wheels too big? Widebody or proper flares.

Yeah I contemplated going with some custom metal work and making some flares and I think I will end up going that route just because I am going to be making like 5 and change and running small ass tires is going to be spin city. As of now I am just going to make the wheels fit and focus on getting the suspension right and some aero then when I am ready to paint the car do the body work and add flares so I can step up the tire size. I am indifferent about the paper thin fenders so thats why I can bare riding on it for now but I am not too much a fan of stupidly stretched tires because its not functional/safe.

Cressida is a fun car. Have fun sliding it. I've owned 3 in the past and even with just a 7m-gte swap the car was hella fun. 1j would be awesome possum. Invest in a nice set of coilovers bc the whale that the cressida is, really really needs it.

Yeah I am going to run Serial Nine coils because they are the jam from what I have heard/read.

Are you just going to use the 7mg engine or are you going to do a swap. I would do a 1jz. They are pretty nice in there and if you have 6gs to spends mine as well go to 2jz... But I mean the 7mg is a very decent and reliable engine which can be fixed very easy and parts are very CHEAP....

Let me get these wheels for state of stance show =) j/k they lookin sikk tho man, cant wait to see it finish with some stretch n camber :biggthumpup:
