Took a week off from work to get some much needed stuff finally done on the Q
I had I list of shit to do to it, but I didn't get everything done :sad:
Let's just say it's finally driveable, dirty as f*ck but driveable.

And they fitted the Y33 perfect, I could swear those wheels were built specifically for the Y33 chassis, but I was lookin a bigger challenge this time around, and well change up the style too

So the new sizes are
18x10 -28
18x12 Zero

18's don't look too bad. But I am too much of a puss to ride 18's without air. Sits too low for me to have to keep repairing the undercarriage. Clean that shit up foo. Haha

18s are jus entirely too small looking on a big body Q. Only looks good too me in pics. In person it's obvious.....I think deep wheels + camber change that but only a little. That's jus how I've always felt. Also there's no way I could ride that low on 18s. My 19s are enough.
 
And you don't make me feel so bad because I use to trip and still do sometimes about my offsets. A little too agreesive for me but oh well! Gotta make it work.....

Yeah, IMHO the best size for this car are 19's. 18's are have to be done right for them to even look decent. Reason I like 18's is cuz they let me go as low as id like the car to be. And I ain't the biggest fan of tuckin wheels. I'd rather have flush sittin wheels than be tuckin. I know with these wheels, it don't look like I'm flush, but when the wheels slip up past the quarters under compression, y'all better believe it sqeezes past it by a mm. If I were to be on 19's, I'm sure I'd tuck. So if it mean rollin on 18's to be dumped and have the full wheel showing, then that's where imma be

And yeah these sizes are crazy, I was surprised I made em work LOL, this car can swallow up a fatty (no homo) I thought may last set were pushin its limits, but damn, these make those look conservative

I hear ya on keeping the body as stock as possible. I don't want to lose the body lines w/ crazy widebodies or pulls but I'll end up doin what I got to, to make it work......

Yeah, that gash'll get taken care of when i reupolster the interior.
Sadly, i aint got seat warmers, so there's no buttons for those.

I don't have pic of it here, but elsewhere on the forum, if you've seen any pics of my car in my garage, and noticed the background, I got stacks of tires, and I mean stacks LOL I'm stocked up for a while

And the LED's, well I've built every circuit myself. Buying individual LED's, resistors, and boards. All home made stuff. The shift knob I got don't light up either, but I put an LED under it, and now it shines nicely at night ^_^

Real dope!  18's are the way to go fir sure.  I have always liked cars that ride real low static drops and this one is no exception.  Looks great man!  Makes me want to lower mine more.

how much camber are you two running to be wearing the whole sidewall? I'm at -7.9 in the rear... s2000 though.

The Q's on S13 PBM coils

IDK what my camber's at, I did the alignment in the garage with strings and rulers. Wish I knew though, would be interesting to see where it's at

If you tell me what your measurements were from vertical, i can tell you the camber...

I didn't note anything down
But I'm gonna do another alignment on it, hopefully this week, I lowered the rear more, and gotta work and the front as well. I'll write down measurements when I do it for the next time

I'm saving up to get a set and do that cause I'm getting tired of my tokico/kyb combo, I want more adjustability. Btw how are the prototype y33 pbm coils doing? I'll either put my bags on y33 or s13 pbm coils depending on how the y33 ones come out

Yeah just gotta pay close attention every where I go. Once you learn the streets, its all good.  Outside my boundries is like playin a game of "Watch out for bumps, dips, pot holes, road patches, RxR tracks, driveways, sewer caps, animals (DOA), garbage, 2x4's (LOL),  just about anythin"

And I ain't forgotten about that thing ya asked me for, I've been super busy trying to get the car into decent shape for this Sat, fursure next week I'll getcha an update on that

Hahahaha! It's not like that. You get very lazy w/ air.......at least I do. You don't have the response time while driving to air up real quick unless you're trying to get in and out of a drive way or sumthin and even at that point I'm too lazy to lift so still try and angle complete sideways to get in and out and if it's a speed bump or sumthin where I do have to raise the car, I'll us go around it or avoid it all together. Bottom line, I jus use my air to drive low and park lower. As far as a kit, yea, your's would be beat the hell up. You should see the bottom of mine, so many scrapes and chips. They gonna have fun at the body shop w/ this one LOL! ANd also when you ride low w/ a kit, you get so many rock chips, my bumper is almost white again LOL!

^^^ yup. Gotta agree with Oscar. I try to ride as low as possible. The back rim is tucked and the front is no finger gap. (because even at 0 psi it's still not really tucked) Id scrape everywhere without any cares. I'd rather ride low and slow than anything close to stock height. I am grateful to the fact that I can drive in any parking structure and have a full load and be able to air up. I only air all the way down if my car is gonna be parked for longer than 45 minutes. (just for the passer bys wow factor). But all of that is nothing compared to the time and effort you've put in your car. Much respect for not having the option and driving the car like u do.    Hope to see this car in person one day.

Alex, woulda been to cool meet ya, but didnt know you were there. Then like the last hour or so, I seen a green S2K parked by a tent near my car. Thinkin it was your i walk up to it, but didn't recognize the wheels, so i wasnt about to make a fool and ask someone about a car i was unsure of hahaha and nah, while drivin it don't even rub. Fronts will if i hit a corner hard and get alot of body roll, or if goin into a steep driveway and turnin on it

Hahah I wish. I was so tempted to go out and get one. But two things
1. I needed somethin 4' long, and IDK of any that big
2. I don't need to give pigs more stuff to add to the ticket when I get that one who's havin a bad day (would it be illegal to use as a plate?? :shrug:)
Nah I went to the metal shop and picked up a sheet of aluminum 48"x40" and chopped it to 34.5" wide, made a couple bends, drilled a few holes, and took it out to scrape and beat on it LOL

I really mostly use it when I plan somethin out and I got the stuff with me. 1st pics in the thread are at home, all the big projects get done at home, suspension set up, fittin wheels, alignments. I can't even get my car on the alignment rack at work :pat:

Yeah definitely pays to have access to a lift. I am hoping to get the TC Rods shaved to fit and then looking into S13 RUCA on the rear and have a buddy machine me some top hats once the suspension is in place.

Been meaning to ask. I saw someone else had some Half circular RUCA and ended up bending after some time was there a reason you went with these instead of the full circular? And how much clearance do you have in the front with the wheel wells and the harness?

That's how PBM makes theirs. Their RUCA's are S13/S14 compatible. I don't think 1/2 circle or full circle makes a dif, its the quality in the materials/engineerin. Those bent ones were some Ebay brand arms, ya get what ya pay for. If PBM's stuff can hang with driftin, it can handle my Q =) been rockin em for 7 months, and no signs of em weakenin. Plus when they build their stuff, they take slammed heights into consideration and put angles in their arms to compensate for the arms bein angled upwards. And they're local, so gettin in contact with Dan is no problem, dude's a super kool kat

They're lighter, but the abuse the suspension's takin is an ass whoopin. I'm just a car freak, outta the house builder, ain't no physists or any kinda scientist/engineer, but all the forces the arms take at the track on a 240 are probably somewhere close to what they would take on a Q just cruisin it :shrug:

Excellent reply. That was the info I was looking for, thanks. I am aiming to have my car done by mid sat so I can be ready for the roll out to phs this saturday for the meet. I am just having crap luck with coilovers. Thinking I would have been done if had just bought a full set but getting a free set of rears threw me off.

255/35 holds up, or a 265/35 is you want to play it safe. Shorter sidewall = less tire rub :)

I have a pair of 265/35 GSD3 and a single 255/40 azenis that you can have for $40. :P

It's all good, even took off the 2 lockin nuts that are on it to make it as short as possible.
See how there's 3 nuts, I only have the 1 in the center for makin the adjustments. Locktited it, and it hasnt moved yet.

Most of the guys in the US with such fine matrixes use standard 5mm high intensity LEDs, you going all out with the Lumileds :)

Yeah, I ain't got a rush on this project, so completed pics won't be for a while. But progress pics will come through here and there. 

Yo Dom, I chose Lumileds cause they're closer to stock than the regular 5mm's
So far in that ONE housing, there'll be 152 Red's for tails/stop and 84 Ambers for turnsignals. Hopefully people behind me will be able to see when I stop. That still ain't includin the other 3 housings. 
And I didn't use flexable boards cause they're pricey. Its still a budget build and if I could save like $70 pokin holes, then even better. Plus it allows me to place the LED's exactly where I want, instead of only usin the premade holes. Imma use PCB's for the inner tails part.

I could have shot you over the DIYs that they give you in the VIPmags on how to do this! Looks pretty straight forward but they always make it look easy in their DIYs

And thanks for offerin the mags oz, but it took me forever to understand the circuitry goin into makin the turn signals, and that was in plain ol english, I don't thhink I woulda survived readin the japanese stuff LOL
As far as the rest goes, should be straight. Electronics ain't too rough, got an ASE cert on that and I did all my other lights in LED's license plate, dome, guages, shift knobs, so I figured I could do these too. We'll see what happens hahaha

looking forward to the outcome as well.
 
sine the running/brake lights are combined how do you plan on dimming? pwm? voltage regulation?

Today i finished makin the three pieces for the drivers side lamp. And poked the hole for the top two pieces, just gotta poke holes for the bottom strip. Then go back and repoke each hole once more to widen them up. Never knew pokin holes would be so much work

There had been some interest on the plates I've made so here's to anyone that had questions. It ain't a direct how to, but it ain't really rocket science either, so hope it helps y"all with your projects
 
First plate I made
Pretty basic. 
Used a sheet of Aluminum.
Cut a rectangle, made some bends, drilled some holes. Bam. Done.

Next I made another plate for a member on here Cheez80 and changed the way i did it compared to my 1st plate. now it's new and improved
 
Ver 2.0
This time I used a sheet of 14ga Steel. Y'all can go thicker, it'll last longer, but being hella low, I ain't tryin to make stuff drag lower than its gotta be. Well I liked how his came out, so I made another one, plus my old one had holes already, so it was trash 
 
I chose steel this time cause it'd last longer. The last one only lasted me a few months. We'll see how long this goes for. The benefit i liked from the Alum over steel was that Alum doesn't spark when it scrapes and steel does. So if the fuzz sees sparks flyin, you'll probably see lights flashin. Thats the one thing i liked about the Alum plate/ but i hated it's resistance.

Under the car, there are holes pre threaded for bolts to bolt onto to hold up the stock splash gaurds. So i used those as points to make holes. 
From Front to Back:
3 under the core support
2 bigger ones for the radiator nubs to pass through
2 bends to reach from core support to subframe
3 middle ones where the Crossmember sits
2 in the back bolting into a strap connectin the subframe and chassis
2 folds at the very back to bolt into the frame rails

love the skid plate. ever think of putting holes for the oil pan that way you can change the oil without taking out the pan. also some vent holes as well. just a thought. sorry on a side note do you know if PBM is still doing there prototype coilover for the Y? keep up the good work homie!!

I have thought about holes for the drain plug, and the drain tube comin down from the oil filter.
But as far as things go for me, I'd rather take the whole plate off to check everythin underneather there aswell, like anythin broken or leakin.
IDK what happened with that project. Last I heard they were waitin on the prototypes to come in. I was had givin em an old stock strut for them to work with and was just waitin for them to ask me to go to the shop, but never heard nothin. I emailed em once after, for different reasons, but even then didn't hear any mentions on the subject. I'd suggest givin em a call. If they see demand for it, they'll build em, but if they're makin 1 or 2, I think they wouldn't. There no money in makin a couple.

Yeah I noticed the back kinda bubbles where the cats are. If it annoys ya, bring it back and ill section out that part too. Only reason I left it was to protect the trans pan also. 
Mine had a nasty dent in it, and I don't want another one

Alright, so I've been hella busy tryin to get my ish ready for SOTU and can honestly say everything i had aimed to have done for it was accomplished. Among those where the Lights and Z32 brakes as well as other small subtle things too. I lagged it major in postin up pics mostly cause i got very few hours of sleep all last week. and right now can squeeze a lil time on here. I got more work to put in before AF in a couple weeks.

We were all new at one point, just do a lot of research and go with what YOU wanna do. Dont worry about anyone else and what they think
 
The lights are stock Zenki Q lights, just broke the orange reflector on em

LED's are fine with the smaller stuff
Wasn't the case for this project, but startin from the basics deff helpped me with this setup

Damn. This Q is exactly what I had invisioned mine being. Super good job man, the tails are probably my favorite part of the whole car - It sets the rear off soo much better than the stock tails do, especially with the turn signals. 

I still wanna know how you got that big shift knob to fit on the car! Any info would be great.

And I've been asked this from a couple other users but since I haven't been on here a lot lately, I haven't been much help. Before starting this, I recommend no one try unless you are comfortable cutting parts. If you mess up, you wont be able to go back unless ya do some welding or get a new shifter assembly. 
After taking the stock shifter off, you have to cut out the thin inner rod and toss it. Chop the thicker round metal tube to your desidered height. Next make/buy some threaded rod with the desired pitch needed for your new knob, mine was somethin like 10x1.25 or 12, I dont remember. Make sure this rod is thin enough to fit into the round tube you chopped earlier. I prefered using a rod that fit the round metal tube just right because you're gonna need to drill a hole through it just big enough to pass a bolt or pin, or anything that'll stay put once inserted through that hole. Then figure out how much travel you need for it to go up and down, as this will be the way you can release the car from each gear (similar to pressing the side button on the stock shifter). When you've figuered that out, make a slot of that same size on the round metal tube. This will allow the rod to travel up and down, but not too high or too low, it'll limit it's travel to the proper length. To finish, put a spring inside the round metal tube, followed by the threaded rod, and finally pass the thin bolt/pin/whatever you want to keep the threaded rod from slipping out.
It's kinda one of those things you learn how to do as you go along. There were no instructions in doin it, I do remember it was just a PITA when I did it, but it's one of those mods your happy about when you've figured it out.
Hope this helps you and anyone else who decides to take this on. Just gotta say, take your time and be patient. It's a bit of work and will mess some ish up if it's half-assed

Lovin the build Brokey! I have a quick question about your radio surround. Does the a/c climate control harness from our 97-98 plug right into that newer 99-01 a/c climate control or did you have to mod it? In thinking about going fancy clock too!
