Wheel re-lipping help!

Hi guys i need some help with calculations.
right now, i have 19x8.5 +25ish offset wheels.
the inside barrel is 6.5" and the outside lip is 2"
i am about to pick up some 6" lips to bolt on them.
i need some help figuring out the final size of the wheel after the relip. because im afraid it might not fit without some serious pull.
i have a 2GS with shaved rear quarters.
thanks in advance

should be a 12.5" -26(ish), AKA no way in hell.

Just take a ruler to your current wheels, and measure 4" straight out from the edge of the current lip. Thats what you are going to have to tuck under your fenders...

BonB is right, you are not going to do that very easily

3.5" lips will give you 10" +6, which would be more achievable (but still require a pull or some decent camber)

haha i just measured everything and i figure it to be 19x12.5 -19
that is too crazy. maybe 4" lips will do. i would have 10.5+0
thanksfor the quick help

hmm, its either my calculations are wrong. or this chart is wrong.
Forum image

with my wheel backspace at 5.75 for a 8.5" wheel, it should be at an offset of 38. not the 25 that is listed in the chart.
can anyone confirm this?

You are putting in the size of the inner barrel, not the backspace.

Backspace is the distance from the wheel mounting face to the tyre bead (or for simplicity's sake, the inner lip)

Put your wheel face down on the ground, take a plank of wood, lay it across the wheel in the middle. Then take a ruler and measure the distance from the wheel mounting face (where the wheel stud holes are), to the plank of wood. Thats your backspace

yes i did do that.
i got a backspacing of 5.75
i took that and subtract the 4.25(which is half of 8.5) and it comes out to 1.5".
1.5x 25.4 to mm and its 38.1mm

Yeah that chart seems to be off... 12" with a 6" backspace should be 0 offset

6" with a 6" backspace should be +76 offset

thanks for the help guys. i was about to order 4" lips to make it 10.5+12 but they only had 4.5" lips in stock. so i got that instead. so final outcome will be 11+6
thanks again guys. very helpful

People always forget to factor in the bead thickness.

Remember, an 8.5" wheel is measured bead seat to bead seat, inside. Most beads are about 1/2" thick - there is one inside and one outside, so an 8.5" wheel is really 9.5" wide overall.

8.5" with 5.75" backspacing is indeed +25 if you measured the rim inner and outer barrels properly (did not include the bead seat). If you included the bead seat in the measurements, the wheels are currently 19x7.5" not 19x8.5"

Also, if the centers are sandwich mount, that will screw-up your calculations.

NiiiCE!!! I assume you are referring to the same wheels you're rolling on? Gonna be sick.

Easiest way is to use your current backspacing (5.73in.) and different widths.

12.5" wide (+4in. outer) = -25 offset
10.5" wide (+2in outer) = -0.5 offset

this only works when you are changing only the OUTER lip, as changing that does not affect the backspacing.

Just curious where did you get the lips from. I have several places I've dealt with before just curious where you went

The Chart is Correct. When measuring backspace a lot of people forget that these charts don't go from mounting face to beadseat. They go from beadseat to the end of the wheel. Each wheel has an extra 1/2 inch after the bead seat.

11inch width (bead to bead) is actually 12inches. Divide in half .. zero offset is a 6inch backspace including the 1/2 inch bead seat of the back side.

You can purchase 18-22 inch barrels easily from most manufacturers since that is what is in high demand right now.
