Awesomely bad idea, the 6-speed Q45

so when I catch a curb a 3am I can just throw on a spare without caring and they have a pretty decent specs too
thanks Joe! it'll be out at the next even but realistically it'll probably still be auto and going home on a flat bed with a blown tranny and then back for April with clutch kicks LOL

G/l on your build...the wheels, I dont get it. Cuz the tires you put on will prob be worth more then your wheels and so imo should have gone into something nicer (used even), and kept the stocks to floss around in..but it is your build and i hope you can pull it off.

If you stay on the entrance road and go down almost the full length of the drag strip there is a banked oval with secondary oval and x inside. There has been events every month for the past year or so, $20 per car and $10 per driver/spectator but usually no concessions or tire changer. Its always a good time

Yup, usually just stop at the grocery store a block or two off the highway and pick up food and drinks. Also bring a couple of sets of rims and tires and your set for a days worth of fun....

Appreciate the good responses, I've been sick but i'm still moving slow, probably from being up late pulling and prepping the Z bell housing to go out earlier this week.
Fixed the rear brakes last night and put all the rear suspension in today, it's not exactly bolt in with S13 parts but like all projects it starts on a budget and snowballs from there LOL. I'll have to try to order all Z32 upper mounts to clean things up.
more work tomorrow and pictures Monday morning

I'll start out by saying everything didn't go as well as i had hoped this weekend, the front coils still need some work but i'm going to see if i can just order some parts from Megan Racing this week. I need to cut about half the length out of the lover mount from the front.
the 7/8ths unibit worked awesome for boring out the front mount, but drilling the top plate sucked but worked. I'm going to do something different here.
Its decently low out back but needs to go a few inches lower.
rear suspension in, i'd still like to replace the upper control arms with parts from SPL along with the traction rods.
after arguing with guy at the NAPA parts counter that a 19mm 12x1.25 lug nut exists and showing them to him in his catalog he got them out of the back and i was able to mount the rear wheels, at least the girl at the check out counter was cute and flirty but she had a ring lol.
245/45R17 tire, i wanted more grip...
lots of fender work to come.
4 months later... i think i could have swapped shocks front to rear and made this work... but who knows how low it would have gone or how shitty that would have been.

because in a "sea of 240's" even this was just another 240.

and the G50 has a really awesome engine.

thanks, i'm really excited to get it to a drivable state.
well 12kg/10kg S13 suspension modification ultimately failed, i'm converting them back to some what normal s13 coils, the rear mounts now give extra drop with the potential for ridiculous amounts of drop with the new space for helper springs LOL.
I'm thinking about ordering KTS Z32 coilovers
but in the mean time i've got plenty to keep busy with, still need to do front brakes all SS lines, wheel studs inner and outer tie rods, tension rods, seat and steering wheel...

Z33 inner and SPL outer tie rods along with "custom" tension rods and z32 rack bushings are all in and the alignment is also done, I'm still searching for a rear sway bar.
bell housing came back from mazworx after they found out it doesn't fit on their CNC, but i've got a line on a spare block for pilot hole measurements and a spare auto bell housing to chop up so i can keep down time to a minimum.
The fenders still need a lot more work, but they're coming along.
oh yeah, i'm running open headers, it's had some street action, scared a minivan coming the other direction half way off the road the road and into some palm-frons earlier this week just driving out of the neighborhood, set off a car alarm in a Denny's parking lot from the street and been to a drift event 5 people deep on track sliding on the leather, bouncing into the ceiling(still on cut springs, money is tight) and choking on the tire smoke. I'm having a blast!
i'm also getting started on engine bay clean up which has to get done before i even consider buying new val cover gaskets. I need to go find a post somebody on here made about engine bay safe cleaners?

The paint job was terrible, the car must have been is some kind of front end collision early in its life because fitment and repair quality wise you just can't tell. The only thing they didn't get right was the quality of the paint job, and it showed on the hood front fenders and bumper after however many years. The current paint job isn't much better since it was a late night "I hate this flaking/fading cream color" non-taped kind of paint job that required a run to wal-mart to finish the first coat Lol. I've got acetone, tape and many more cans of paint, I just have to get the fenders finished first. I'll probably even get a couple coats of satin clear onto it.

I'm working on it. I picked up 4 of the black and polished and the two rear ones there. Two of the black ones had big chips of color knocked out so i stripped them and i'm working on polishing them.
hahaha yeah Joe, I've got some acetone to clean the trim up with.
It really needs a 20mm spacer up front and maybe something in the back too, but we'll see after i zero out the camber back there.

if you just want to learn to drift, buy somebodies cheapo 5-speed s13 and use a welded diff, some kind of used cheap spring and shock combo along with Godspeed front and rear sway bars, it'll be everything you need for cheap so its no big deal when it gets wreaked, everyones first car eventually gets wreaked.

I replaced the low pressure A/C line. Refilled the system to the correct pressure and the compressor turned on. The air seemed to change from hot only to not hot? I turned the car off and the pressure rose way too high in five minutes or so of run time. I bled off a bunch of pressure back down to normal levels but it was still blowing hot. It still seems to hold its pressure? i'll check that again tonight, maybe the compressor gave up the ghost? I've got homework to do for this.
fixed a few more vacuum leaks, and replaced what might have been the original fuel filter, and throttle response is noticeably better.
spend some time with vice grips, hammers, a pipe and a 48" crow bar on the driver side front fender, and set the spring back into its perch, haha all that shit looks a little better now.
clutch pedal and master cylinder will be in this week as soon as soon as i enlarge the center hole for the master cylinder, maybe tonight since I fixed my Dremel this morning? haha some how i broke everything just before finishing also just before 8pm when all the hardware stores closed last night Lol

I'm doing a really shity job on the pictures, or lack of...
If i didn't leave all of my memory cards at work yesterday I would be posting a picture of Q45 with a clutch pedal and master cylinder bolted to either side of the firewall, but that will have to wait until tomorrow.
and before I forget, if you start this you'll need to get under your car and install a small bracket at the T-off point of the parking brake cable. It only stays off of the drive shaft from the tension in the cable alone and if there are balancing weights at that point of your drive shaft, you might also think your carrier bearing just fell apart and your drive shaft is next. I used a 1"x5" piece of 18 gauge steel and 4, 1/8th rivets.

the pedal location needs a little work, its a little high and a little too far to the left, but still usable.

the bolt hole at the top there will need a bracket

that quarter panel was the motivation for progress, no e-brake and no engine braking sucks Lol...
There was an IS300 in the scrap yard, so i grabbed it e-brake handle, we'll see how that works out.

Using a fender roller on these cars is a joke, so i put the sledge hammer to the rear fenders for about four hours last night and i'm down to about -1° camber out back.

small update from this weekend.
I've got all the spare bell housings i needed and a spare VH long-block in order to keep the bell housing's aligned while welding.
I'm working on shaving the two bell housing pieces down to equal the original length of the VQ bell housing and also still trying
to get the VH ring gear onto the VG flywheel...
...optimistically welding this weekend.

The pile of work.

Yeah, i'm playing with the positions of the lower intake plenum sections for a new intake manifold.
Bell housing swap.
Mock up verify input shaft depth. Note: the VQ35 block extends into the six speed bell-housing, the VH45 block doesn't...

Thanks Nick.
The rest of the time was spent pulling the auto pilot bearing and cutting out the 1/4" plate doughnut.

The bolt laying on the ground with the big washer looking thing on it, is a nut welded to the auto-pilot bushing using a bolt to push it out of the crank. Mike's awesome idea, worked great.
more work to come this week...

If you're really considering it, I don't have the time or welding skills, but Mike Ranlet who is doing the welding for mine does.
He did this for his subaru last year and has orders for two more subaru bell housings out of texas and i think cali.
We plan to do his ls400 as well. mranlet@gmail.com, FB or mranlet on most forums.

After watching your videos over and over, I am noticing your suspension rebounds to fast. if there is a way to soften it up? just a bit. So when you transition it doesn't bind up and let go spinning you around. I say this, and ask cause I have been r &d'ing my front suspension for this specific reason to avoid. You do want it to be stiff-firm.. but soft to get traction. These cars have no difficulty of hanging it out and keeping it there. 240s need it a bit stiffer in the rear suspension since its not as a long of a wheel base. When they up power, you can soften it up to aid in more grip in the rear tires. Watch a lot of videos on drift sedans, its a lot more difficult to set these up for drifting than a coupe. Find a aussie forum and read about drift chasers and skylines a like. Might help a bit too. But when you get it right, like the track you are on now.. you will keep wowing all of us! I hope to see a lot more from you!
I also have to admit you made me put on my helmet and go out to the industrial park with my car. (laughs) Every time i decide to go out and do stupid stuff is when i am alone. Maybe one day i will remember to bring a buddy so he can film haha.
Also, what does your car weigh in at? and do you have scales so you can corner weight it? I have a tip tronic shift if you want to call it that.. in my car. and when i hit high up in the rev band it shifts to 2nd from 1st and wont even know it, its super fast and can keep it hung out to dry for ever it seems.. but the down fall is the drop a gear, it wont always do it, and have to keep banging it back in hopes that it shifts down, unlike the regular auto gates on older q45's. I have a plethora of vq trans.. maybe i should attempt it after all.. I like your engine on the nose to make an adapter idea.. that is awesome. never would have thought of that.

It bounces because its still on cut springs(like 4 coils cut Lol) and the shocks are blown out so bad that the only thing they do anymore is prevent the springs from falling off the car. The lack of rear sway bar sucks too haha. the only dampening forces acting against the springs at this point are given by the bump stops. the front doesn't look too terrible most of the time because i cut just enough coils out so that the spring compresses down to the bump stop under static weight giving maybe an inch or so more compression but unfortunately like 8 inches of droop. And, The rear is worse haha!
so, I'm sure at this point you're laughing and realize corner weighting would have to be done with a cut off wheel Lol.
as in most cases for most people, money and time are the limiting factors right now. though i should be coming into a little bit of extra time over the next few weeks Lol. when i can afford to i plan on ordering BC coilovers in the 12/8kg range and if need be add bigger soft bump stops and/or helper springs if needed to keep the chassis off the road and the tires on the ground. In the mean time i have Z32 springs and shocks to chop up and bolt in.
the full build thread with some explanations is here, you'll see all the transmission details are in the second post.
pick up a a spare short block and have at it, i'm sure you can get it done! sounds like you're driving an F50? definitely get a friend out there next time you take the car out to play and bring some video!

I'm still moving forward with the parts that i have for the car and the short term plans and events and all up until the point where the car sells, I put it up for $7500 last weekend. Its time to finally go out and start on a 1980s Porsche 911 but no rush on that. The next Desoto event is coming up and another Fullauto event is in the wind. we'll see what all happens...

Mike, Justin has been sliding this car for a few years now, he just doesn't post in here much other than when fabing somethingnew or busting something....
I was able to finally ride along in this a few times as well as the LS about 30 minutes before that video.

I pulled the accordioned trunk out, added the driver side door skin, front arp studs with 32mm slip on spacers and finally the coilovers. Then came back via AAA on a flatbed with empty fuel lines... Haha I guess five steps forward and one step back isn't bad.
Friday night event is now questionable.

I would like to use a 235/40-17 up front in order to put the fender down on the j-flange but thats going to be rough on the oil pan and i'll probably be dragging the headers too. So I'm going to try and pick up some 3/16th steel for a skid plate this weekend. The 245/45-17 is just way too much side wall to make flush and too much O.D. to fit in the wheel wells this low at -20mm offset.
Nicole's car is doing pretty good, turns out the clutch pedal i put in was from an s13... so i need to make a spacer, but i'll probably just re drill the top mount and cut down the clutch master's plunger instead. That and sub-frame collars this weekend and it'll be mechanically sound. After that, sway bars and camber plates would be sweet. I would say it'll be ready for its first autocross after this weekend.

Nice! Only rubber I have is 225/50/17 and I don't think that will help you. Hopefully th lift goes in over at Mikes and we can start helping each others projects more.

I got a little work done today, replaced a broken rear stud, fixed the rear coilover upper mounts and swapped out some Megan RUCAs for SPL. The car is back on the road but just not low enough... so i just ordered Ksport's helper springs to get the rear lower. i'll probably order the 235/40s for the front this week too.

I took it out to the local 1/8th mile, if that means anything to you...
I suck at launching and managing wheel spin is tough, almost redlines 3rd at the 1/8th mile mark and now i'm curious about the 1/4 mile...
Best of 4:
1/8 Mile ET: 9.353
1/8 Mile MPH: 88.110
0-60 Foot ET: 2.421
The rest were half a second and 10mph slower with lots of wheel spin in different gears and varying 60 foot times.
