my vip-gt prestima project.....

so to any who care to read...i will update as my parts come in. so far on my van i have installed: JPS "US GROOVY" BODY KIT *replacing*, TRD air filter, custom VIP cat back exhaust, Silk Road rm/a8 wagon dampers , Silk Road lateral rod , McCulloch 4300k HID'S, depo clear corners*replacing* , depo red and clear tail corners*replacing* , ventshade wind deflectors , stock wing and some other odds and ends.....
so far of the parts ive ordered i have recieved: junction produce med. size fusa, curtains fr every window but the front from [url]http://web.singnet.com.sg/~laiss[/url] and the jdm grill (the lights and trim peice are on their way).....in the next few days i sould get my wheels and the lights....i will keep you updated as parts come in....

good stuff....did u get the admiration kit already?

i got my jdm headlamps, cornerrs, grill and trim peice now....just waiting for my ssr's, admiration kit and fogs, fabulous exhaust, jdm tails, artist glamor mid wing, roberuta cup kit (suspention), style king overfenders, and garson curtains....i will also get that jabara grill (which will work with either term headlamp) but i will use the stock jdm grill so the jabara grill will be up for sale and it will be new....

does your tail lights come with bulbs? I am having trouble finding the turn signal bulbs. I know the PIAA 1156 will fit, but it costs like $35 a pair. For the brake light bulbs, I am not sure the model no. either. Show me what you got there if you have one.

so on saturday i lowered the fronts (almost) all the way down (they cant be 100% down or the tires and the fenders would be very close friends) and had all the wheels on and it looked so sick. my friend took some pics so i will post them as soon as i get them. i cant go over any speed bumps tho or the bottom scrapes REAL bad (i had to go over two twice and i scraped everything bad). but it looks sooooo nice.

I hadn't been here in a while, it made my stomach hurt to see tose wheels not getting any fresh air..... Damn nice! I've always loved Previa's....

Wouldn't there be other advantages/things to cover with doing an IRS swap? Like more suspension options on top of the adjustablity and better handling, that maybe would justify going a bit overboard with the spending?

i have a question about my rear suspention. its has a seperate shock/spring. on the spring perch ive maxed it to the lowest but i can adjust the shock up and down....it looks like this (the drawing sucks tho)
 
and thats the direction its mounted ...so what way should i adjust it to go lower (up or down)?

Hmmm, so is your current susp setup still have the spring separate from the shock? If so, I don't think adjusting the length of the shock will do anything to lower the car... you'll have to find a way to shorten/lower the spring itself.

oh okya, I read the lucida and emina are a bit narrower thats why I ask.

looked closely and Shawn is the one from WA that was repping a couple years back at the shows! ahahah very kool.

my wheels should be here in the next couple of weeks.....not sure about when ill get rubber..i also have something in the works for doing my paint and body work, unless someone in the seattle/lynnwood area can help with a place to do my work.

Looks like D5R's..not bad, of course not your style though. As fas the skid plate, get one made.  Take some light sheet metal..like very light and bend it to the shape you'd want and use cutting shears to cut it how you'd like.  Then take that to any metal working shop and have one made to match your "prototype".  I did that before for some custom brackets that I wanted made and couldn't make myself.

Thought that the EGG and Kit were painted.  Those are some nice offsets without fender work.  The oil pan is just 2 inches off the the ground huh?  I probally should get a skid plate made also.  If I don't take my parking garage at an angle I always bottom out.  Done it a couple of times due to on coming traffic.....not a good sound.  LOL

a little more that 2 inches but my oil pan is all shapes of scraped up and it seems i rarely bottom out (but when i do its not a scraping its a clunk...ouch!) my egg will probally get painted in the sumer some time. still alot of work to do for what i want the finished product to be. 

yeah the wheels are some ssr professors (is what the center cap says), not the ones im used to. the style isnt my "cup o tea" but i cant say no to sport some different wheels. btw these are for sale if anyones interested.

as for the oilpan, like elpresidente said...just get a sheet metal, and a sheet metal folder (break bar is what is called I believe) and you can easily fab one up. Maybe I should fabricate one...hmmmm

The cheaper but harder way to bend it up is to get some wood and a hammer and bend it that way.

man i read through this thread and it is just taking forever. but at least i have most the stuff i need to finish the exterior. right now im installing dynamat(actually e-dead but everyone knows dynamat) sound deadening throuout my van. its taking forever though because its not hot enough here for it to stick well. for now i will roll around with 1 seat and no inteior until the weather will cooperate. people will prob think im some kind of drifter or racer trying to reduce weight  :D lol. im really just trying to make some progress. but i will leave my interior off untol i get my air all ran.

Heat gun would speed up installation and it's not real expensive.
It comes in handy for lots of other things too (softening paint when rolling fenders, removing pinstripes, stretching vinyl, shrinking heat-shrink etc.)

i have a heat gun but its still takes alot longet than a hot & sunny day and im in no big hurry.

so at least a little update. i save up some money to get my air sus installed. it should happen sometime next month. i also got a quote on the bodywork and it seems feasible that i could have the exteior mostly done by mid to late summer......my birthday is coming up (feb 5th) if anyone wants to get me er.... my van something :)

not done yet... im having some technical difficulties with the coilovers.

We had to hammer some perches loose in a vice as well on my gf's car.  They were brand new coilovers and were mounted on the car for only a year or so.  

Glad to see you are still making progess!   I say 215/225 if you to run the 225 in the back.  Otherwise 225/235.  I'll be running 215/35/19 all around on 19x8.5

im running those on my 19x9 and 19x10....

can you show me pics of your stretch on f&R?

so the coilovers are unstuck and the van is slammed....also on a side note my oilpan guard is done and on and my sliding will clear any wheel or fender i want... :) today is a good day.

Wow, sounds like you got ALOT accomplished today.  I'm glad you finally unfroze the coilover perches.  I was dealing with that (sore back all this week) on my HKS coilovers.

How did you remedy the "rear end shift"?  Were you able to "custom" something to keep the rear end "centered"?  Figure at your "full high" the rear end is going to "shift" to the "left" and at "full low" it is going to "shift" to the "right".  (Another Toyota Design Team Flaw......but Japan has it so...I guess its not their fault "this time")  I have the adjustable lateral rod but that ain't going to do me any good.  I got to some how make the rear end "active" so it will "automatically center" itself.  I know that I can always do the IRS.....NOT.  Mista808 told me that there is a way.......just need to convince him to "custom" make one for the Egg.  But with his 2 projects not sure if he has the time to make something like that.  Mista808 I know for a fact that if you can make it........there is someone else in the 808 which will also be needing it for an Egg(other than myself).

I was also talking with Mista808 regarding a "custom Watts Link" system.......that would solve a lot of my problems.......how much would it cost by chance if I bought it from the Manufacturers?

So even when you are at "full high" and "full low" your wheels don't rub the fender?  I know for a fact that I won't be that lucky.  I think that I am going to have to "cut" more fender to get more "clearance".........I am just glad that the "overfenders" cover everything........  I was thinking of "centering" the rear at ride height.....that way when I do "full high/full low" I will have some "space" for the wheel to "shift".

you dont really need to worry about it rubbing if you have it setup for full down. thats when it would rub. when you raise it up it doesnt rub no more.

Wish I did sound deadening.......the cabin noise is rediculously loud.  But how much weight do you think all the deadening added?  What brand or type did you use?

i used e-dead....it probably added about 15lbs...

E-Dead.........only 15 pounds?  That is not bad at all......thought it would be more doing weight after doing the whole Egg.  Have you noticed a significant difference in the noise volume?  Also have you heard a difference in things "not" rattling now?  Well worth investment?

well i noticed allot of reduction in rattling but not as much in noise reduction. keep in mind my compressors are inside so their darn noisy and i really havent driven it much either plus other than the deadening my interior is bare.

I got to figure something out for noise reduction.......the interior of my ride is way too loud for my liking.....and all my Air Sus is outside.  LOL  I am sure that "partially" it is all my rubber seals which are probally flat as a pan cake don't help the cause.  Any other suggestions to increase noise reduction in the cab?  Anyone?

I used a roll of raamat on mine but these sound deadeners are basically used to reduce rattles,  Especially if you have an upgraded sound system.  I'm gonna try some egg crate foam on the panels and see if that will help reduce road noise.

so its decided that i will paint my van in my garage... same paint scheme as usual. now im not new to painting but i am new to painting outside a booth. any tips on garage jobs? and for those of you that have the japanese aero and have modified your door panels and side skirts to fit our lhd models some advice would be nice too (and pics of the process would be fantastic!!).

so started on modding the door panels and side skirts to fit my van..... the fitment isnt exactly what i hope on the parts that should have no problems...i just have alot of work ahead of me (and my wonderful girlfriend) on this one..... but im sure i will get it right. today was cutting tomorrow will be fiberglass day. but i still have to get it all to fit better 1st....

Shawn may take awhile to get his Previa done, but man the anticipation is building up to a wonderful conclusion.

the wheels are 19x8 +30 19x9 +30  and like pagong stated the aero is a avanzare interesse volker.....

Want Winter over with so we can see progress on the Egg.  Even with the "non" color matched peices I think the Egg looks "dericious" (yes I spelt that wrong on purpose).

How's them side skirts/door caps coming along?  Any new updates you care to share?

Looking good Shawn!!  Glad to see progress on the Egg.  Are you planning to mold the entire kit to the body?  Or just the side skirts?

There is an Egg here in Hawaii For Sale and I am asking the seller to part out the Kit.  If no one offers to pick up the Egg I may be able to get my hands on the Front and Rear Bumpers (Origin Kit).  Unfortunately the Side Skirts and Panels were "Molded" to the Egg so no deals there.  For all I know the Egg might have aleady been sold to another buyer.

well on top of the paint they have to modify the side panels to fit and there is a bit of body work to make the van nice and straight....

ok.. a little update. so there has been a setback wheel wise. without being to revealing i sent my wheels in to these powder coaters to get a different finish. they assured me they could do it but it turns out all they could do is put 10+ coats of powder on my wheels making them ugly as sin and basically making them impossible to blast/strip due to the amount of powder (i was told by ALL the blasters around here that they would end up making big divots in the aluminum while trying to take off the powder). so with my luftbahn's out of action until i can figure out what to do with them i picket up a set of different wheel (you will find out what they are soon enough). at the bodyshop they have made a little more progress, they've got the other side skirt on :) i will post pics as soon as i take some.

Good to see that there has been some proress on the Egg.  Bummers about the wheels.  I know that you got something else up your sleeve but have you thought about painting over the powercoat to salvage the wheels?  Or maybe even paint over them and sell them.  Just a thought.  Please post some pics of the wheels...curious what the powercoat looked like.

they wont buy me new wheels.. :(  they gave me a refund and $240 to try and get them stripped (and even getting that was a headache)...

Please post up shop info so that others will not be using their services.  It's so sad now a days shops and even products that some companies are putting out.  I know they are those who actually care about their "reputation" but seem like there be a whole lot of peeps out there for a quick buck.  Feel bad for the "legit" guys because they trying so hard.

I myself have one Company in particular that I will never go to again and will steer people away if asked.......refer to my wheels/suspension thread......or if you don't want to waste your time reading.......it kind of sounds like sleasystreet.  Hint hint.

ok so a little written update (sorry no pics). so the body shop has worked on my van for the past couple days and the body kit is 75% done. almost all the panels are on except for the one on the sliding door, which is the most fabrication. there are some imperfections on the front and rear bumpers that will be fixed too. you know for being "jdm" and "vip" this bodykit's quality isn't very impressive, actually its pretty darn crude. he said after that is done they can breeze through the rest of the body work and start prepping for the paint booth.

Bummers to hear that the Authentic Kit quality isn't up to your expectations.  But at the same time glad to hear that 75% is complete.  Looking forward to some updated photos.

yeah its a bit disappointing when you pay so much and get basically a 1st gen knock off quality. meaning fits but lines don't line up and aren't straight, some parts bow and will require a good amount of working on to make up to snuff... but on a good note the bodykit is almost on and soon after that it will be in the paint booth :) then off to get more surprises installed ;)

As for the wheels: my Advan wheels were done by a halfass powder coater, i found out that it strips easily to paint stripper :D to the point i found out that they powder coated over the factory paint.. the peeler went into that paint, and let me tell you.. the primer surface they use on advan wheels at least my RCII's the peeler wouldn't penetrate it so i had to use a fine wire wheel. hmm, you know I am gonna post a thread about that. haha

went to my obligatory friday bodyshop visit and was very pleased. my body guy almost has the bodywork (not the aero but the actual van) done on the drivers side. the van at this rate bodywork wise should be done by the middle of the week after next! the work is great too... when i bought the van there was some previous bodywork done that was pretty crappy and he has fixed that.

the fronts will be ok but the rear will be hella strecth...im running 235 on a 10.

For a Daily and for the Weight of out Eggs......I would not go that small with the rubber, unless you "have to" for clearance.  I had 235/35 on my other set of 19X10.5 and that was a pretty good stretch.  Technically to spec the rubbers should be 19X9 225/35 and 19X10 235/35.  I have heard of a horror story where a car flipped from running small rubbers and had a blow out.  Especially suggest running bigger rubber on the fronts as majority of the weight on the Egg is on the Front wheels.

I am so jealous!  With the IRS/Air/Coil Over Combination.......that is the best of all Worlds combined.  Now just raise up the engine a little for more oil pan clearance and you can roll low and slow.

so now its all waiting for the bodyshop to finish with it and then to the suspension shop....

so had my weekly visit with the van today. so they started on straightening the passenger side now. i was told that this next midweek it will be in primer and getting blocked.... i just cant wait. in the mean time i think i will work on getting my irs to look nice. not much rust but there's a little. i will clean it up, apply some por15 to the rusty areas and then rattle can it... oh the excitement...

For camber!!! dont you need to cut the upper arms :shrug:

Being that the JDM guys are running Camber instead of Cutting it would probally be a better idea to locate adjustable Arms.  It will allow for fine tuning for the exact look that you are going after.

i would love to powder coat it but up here it would probably run me about 500 or more to get it stripped and coated. but i will use por15 then engine enamel to get a durable finish.

Only T-Selection?  Wow I would of thought that there would be more than just one Company offering.  No ajustability?  That is too bad.......it is always nice to have the option of fine tuning.  

Are you thinking about the "T-Selection"?  Or going a different route?

not yet..... when it is you will be one the 1st to know so we can do out photo shoot.
went to the b.shop today and 90% of the body work is done and 80% of the work to get the aero on is done. were getting closer and closer each day :) im guessing middle of next week it should be in primer and ready for blocking and painted by the week after. the agony of impatience...

wheels lips fixed and now at the body shop awaiting a little color change.
