Be wary of Ichiba wheels studs

I've had 4 out of 10 Ichiba wheels studs pop out of place on the front of my LS. The problem is the knurl is tapered, not big enough and the metal is too soft. I have pressed them in from the back using a specific Snapon tool made for the job.
For reference I have had H&R wheels studs in the rear installed the exact same way for over a year through salty winter roads etc.. with zero issues.
I'm going to try ARP studs now.

been sayin this forever. i always laugh when ppl try to sell their ichibas and say something like "not generic crap". it's name brand crap instead.

to be fair the spacers themselves are of decent quality, the studs...not so much.

i'd stick to H&R or if you want, ARP.

Are those the silver or gold colored studs? I think the newer gold ones are supposed to be stronger.

Its the gold ones I've had trouble with.

Hmm I tried the gold ones before and they don't even fit because of the knurl. I haven't had any problems with the silver ones, fitment wise.

Its just like their 5lug conv. for s13/s14. They never fit properly or the bearings break after the first 10miles lol.
 
I know nismo sells extended studs and regular size wheel studs, does toyota have anything like that for you guys? ( TRD)

I'm using Ichiba studs and i have had them for a few months and so far no complaints other than 1 stud snapping off but ichiba sent me a replacement

I don't know I ran the ichiba V2 for over two years on my car no problesm..I'd buy them again..

the nuts they give you for the v2 spacers are super soft. i stripped 2 of them trying to take them off.

I've only used H&R, cant really compare it to Ichiba since I've never had it.

I've ran Nismo studs on my rear wheels when running my Z at the track (12.5 sec @ 118mph in Cali Speedway) and broke my studs and half-axles. After my third set the dealership was on back order on Nismo studs so they hooked me up with Ichibas.
 
At first I was like WTF??? But I figured I give it a shot. The only thing I ever broke after that was my half-axles until they were upgraded. Car has now hit mid-11's and haven't broke a single stud.
 
Point of story: I've abused these studs at the track and they have held up for the past three years. So daily driving should be fine.
 
Again, just my personal opinion from experience. Not speculation from "what I've heard".

its basically a bearing with a lip that spins when you tighten it.

The tool is actually a gun with a flat ended rod on it. He put the stud in and then put the rod on the head of it, pulled the trigger and it pressed it in like a hammer. I'll ask him what Snapon model it is.

Seems like Ichiba's quality is hit & miss.

i had some ichiba studs for my lexus and the knurl didnt even fit. i had some ichiba that were good. it really is a hit or miss

I've never had any problems with my Ichiba, both silver and gold studs.

They are gone now though

Bad run? I don't think so. I've heard countless stories where the studs fail. People on the G forum talk about how they're still good, but they had an issue with one but Ichiba sent em a new stud. Guess what, just cos they sent you a new one doesn't mean you didn't have a problem. When I had my H&R's, absolutely NO problems at all. They're not all that much more either. I got a pair of 15mm H&R's for $105 picked up, brand new.

If you want to run spacers with built in studs, there's Project Kics as well. Not ALL Ichiba studs will fail, it won't happen to everyone, but it does happen to a few people. Chances could have been that it could have happen to you, but if it hasn't, you were one of the lucky ones. I'd rather not risk it and get quality from the get-go.

Update:
Replaced all front Ichiba wheel studs with H&R studs and the vibrstion I had at 70mph is gone.
When I was replacing them, again another 2 were loose and were a PITA to get off. Had to vise grip the head of the stud to get the lug nut off. After that they just slipped out.
I'll personally never use Ichiba studs again.
