What do you guys use for Jacking up your low car?

[B]I have a situation I need help figuring out. [/B]

[B]I have low service ramps to get the car raised up so I can get the jack to slide under the car, however here is my problem.[/B]

[COLOR=Red][B]The sideskirt interferes with getting the jack arm up high enough to touch the jack point on the vehicle.[/B][/COLOR] I tried adding wood to the top of the jack pad, but I need about 3.5" just to get it to touch. When I add wood, the jack just wants to roll out and slip off the jack point of the vehicle...I though of cutting a notch in the sideskirt directly below the jack point, however even if I did that, I still can't get the jack arm up high enough to even touch the jack point of the car. OEM scissor jack will not work either, there is no way to get the tools under the car to "scissor" it up. 

[B]What do I do?[/B]
(this is a manageable situation when I'm at home, but not a good solution if I was stuck with a flat tire on the side of the road..)

* I also check the manufacturer of my jack (torin) and they don't offer any extended jack necks that I could swap out with my current jack neck pad (that would be the ideal solution)

what type of jack are you using? have you tried one of those aluminum craftsman low profile jacks? they are like $100/$200. I never had a problem with that thing even when i was slammed on coilovers before I went airrunner...

you ever seen those "air jacks" that you throw underneath the side of the car and hook the tube on to your exhaust and it inflates? lol. I was skeptical at first but I've seen a lot of youtube vids on them and it seems like a pretty sick idea for emergency situations every once in a while... and it's easy to store in the trunk.

worth a look if you're riding slammed and have to travel with limited space for a jack

I just unbolt the side skirt honestly.  Then again my application requires about 2 minutes to fully take off a whole skirt too.

My sideskirt has about 11 screws and double-sided tape, so it would be a little hard to have to do that every time I had an emergency.

I found that if I could weld a piece of 3" diameter steel pipe to the top of the jack pad, that would get it good enough, I'd just need to buy a 2nd jack pad to swap back and forth between vehicles (my other car won't use the pipe mod)...

scared of the airjack huh. lol.

It would hit the side skirt before making contact with any metal surfaces underneath my vehicle.
My Garson side skirt hangs about 3.5" lower than any metal parts of the frame. That's the problem.

I just ordered an air jack, we'll see how that works.

bah. just throw it right under the middle of the car and watch all four wheels poof off the ground lol. it'll be a good look and you could also rent the car out as a seesaw to little children hanging out on the side of
the highway.

We'll find out in a few days. Right now i'm having to ghetto some wood sheets and it's terrible...Definitely NOT vip ;)

I used to drive up on premade wood planks that step up with a stop on the end...and then slide the jack in the front and jack up from the tow hook.   This works for most cars...  the rear I jack up from the diff...

Matco oolshas a true lo-pro jack. Search the web. My work place has one and i works perfectly Only problem is its no cheap at arond $300.

Wood planks and a jack but I started to just use the front towhook point under the radiator to jack the car as of recent

i use a combination of everything in this thread. rubber 2x4s, low pro racing jack to lift up the side enough to get the big jack under, tow hooks in the rear. no kit for me though.

Drive up onto wood, remove front bumper and jack up the car from the front. Or cut some holes in your sideskirts so your jack will clear the jacking points.

i have a pair of knock off takata low ramps, and i use a harbor freight low aluminum jack on the front crossmember or rear diff. i don't have a kit though. i wouldn't know what to do if i did have one =X

reading this thread makes me want to design a jack that is capable for slammed cars, i swear i'll be a rich if it becomes successful.

1" clearance, long neck, 2.5 ton, titanium, with a carrying case = profit

Make sure it comes with 1" ramps too, for the ultra low cars :smiley-rofl:

really the hydraulid/air rams are the way to go. i'm gonna put them on something someday.

damn that titan air jack is pretty cool. watch youtube video of it and it work fast. its even low so you can tuck it underneath really easily

This is the jack I was mentioning earlier. Trust me, this jack it the sh!t. Looks like the price went up thought being that this is the newer model.

Phone books to drive up on and then a low pro jack...

problem with the airjack is custom exhaust. possibly bent piping but the real problem is the exhaust tip. most airjacks connect to factory exhaust tips. i also hear dual exhaust doesnt work well either.

lol most skirts have like 8-12 bolts, double sided tape, and the door seam finisher covering it. sometimes simple is nice i guess :dance:

i'm guessin you mean the 2 ton low pro? this is easily the lowest profile jack i've seen and the lifting power [I]should[/I] be enough (borderline). i might grab one or two of these.

i looked up air jack systems a couple days ago, i found 2 or 3 companies that make em for hot rods, and boy howdy is it fucking expensive. like 2.5k+ a system.

you can throw jackstands underneath the car if you want.

They have safety stands as well to be used w/ the cylinders.

i just made some ramps from 25mm floorboards:)
stacked on each other so it makes it 50mm lift...enough for me to slide low jack under my car and get it on the hoist/etc

Dont know about having them on a VIP car, Installation wise. Have you guys seen how they install these? Dont think VIP cars would be good with these.

Explain what you mean since I never seen them installed but I wanted to get them

cuttin,welding, running the air lines ect.
To my understandin They have to be installed on the lift points of the car.

nah... they just have to be mounted directly to the rails. why would cutting and welding not be vip friendly though?

not exactly the most portable but it can be wheeled around. im buying one for my house...eventually. cost around 8 g's but its one of the last quality lifts still made in the US.

i tried buying 2 different low profile jacks and both wont even get close to the rails without crushing sideskirts. i think truck/suv hi rise adapters are a must.

i have a low rise lift that's 4" minimum height (vs. 4.75" on the mohawk) and it's really not all that convenient for my cars. longer ramps would help but for now i only use it when the car will be up there for a while. that one is nice though because of it's open center.

My nsx is very low and the kit really doesnt let you get to any of the jack points.  I found a scissor jack with a 3/4 nut on end of screw.  not sure what car they came on but i throw that puppy under it, start it halfway up and use big jack to do rest. you can get the scissor high enough usually to not even worry about the big jack and just put stands under.  Very easy and not expensive one bit.  Really has saved me in quite few instances

Thats pretty interesting , i was having the same problem with my s13. I just switched to air bags on it for this exact reason.

I removed the factory tow hooks and welded extensions to them so I can get my jack to reach them easier.

I was thinking about that. Having a shop add some metal extensions to the factory points to make them a tad lower.

Finally went to Harbor Freight and bought a low-profile aluminum jack. SO much better than going up on 2x4's and fewer pumps to get the car off the ground. 59 bucks plus 9 bucks for 2 year extended warranty, if it breaks, just take it back and they give you a new one.

I use 2x4's and a low profile jack.
 
Here's my new 2 ton Harbor Freight jack stickered up. The cheap aluminum jacks at Harbor Freight aren't reliable. But I can only speak for myself and my experiences with them. No problems with the new cheap iron one, so far...

wood ramps works good. quick and easy.

i just throw in 2x 2x4 wood heh

new arsenal includes wheel jacks (x4), low profile 2 ton racing jack (x1), and 3 ton floor jacks (x2).
 
wheel jacks llift wheels enough to get low pro under tow hooks, lo pro lifts one side to get floor jack under the other, low pro is removed and floor jacks are used under both driver and passenger tow hooks.

Wood and two 3.25" clearance jacks.

i roll mine on a 2x4 and then i use a low profile jack with another 2x4 on top works good enough for me - 5 minute job - i have it down to a science

Yes I'm on air. I'll give u guys a clip on just how much travel I have.  Most of y'all dudes on coils can't afford to run air so I understand how u will not be able to grasp the concept.  Just kidding but regardless if u are on air if u are on a flat and laying frame.  Odds are u will not get a jack under ur car.

there should be device that is flat against the frame and can use the air system to inflate and raise the car...

they're called air jacks and they already exist.

all I found were bags you put underneath and not attached to the car.
