why is it that I see people running a taller tire in the front compared to the rear? for example 225/35/20 front 255/30/20 rear. i'd appreciate the info. thanks.
they would only be taller on an appropriate wheel depending on width, it affects te size ALOT some of it is tire cost, some sizes are cheaper so people use them. Some people do it so they have more meat in the front and cant put more in the rear. many options. It comes down to either cost or what fits the car geometry better
The middle number in tires is measured as a percentage. For example the 35 in 225/35. This means the height is 35% of 225mm And the rear would be 30% of 255mm I don't feel like doin math to give ya exact height numbers, but they should be pretty close
^ What he said. The profile is an aspect ratio. Meaning, the sidewall height is a ratio of the width.
I run 245/30 and 295/25 and the sidewalls match for the most part If that was a 295/30, the sidewall would be noticeably larger and wouldn't fit as well

but also, if you dont want to strech a front tire, you would get a different aspect ratio than you would if you want to stretch it and keep the same appearance its all personal
basically i purchased a set of wheels that are 20x9 f and 20x10 r They came with tires and the front is 245/35/20 rear is 275/30/20 im on tanabe sustec coilovers and i have it all the way down in the front. I'd like it as low as possible. the rears do not rub but the front rubs quite a bit even with fenders rolled. the front tires are NOT stretched at all. do you guys think if i went with like a 225/35/20 instead it would have a mild stretch and give me more clearance? thanks
well you tell me... 245mm wide vs 225mm wide......thats a 20mm almost 1 inch diff in width..do you think it would stretch if it were 1 inch narrower? : sigh :

lol... you might want to know who your talking too before you run off at the mouth. grant is under a new name. is he an a**hole? yes. does he know his s**t? for sure. and yes, a 225 will obviously have more stretch than a 245 of the same aspect ratio. the point is we need some sort of solid information to be able to tell you if it will solve your issue. specs would be nice, pictures would be better. as for why people run smaller aspect ratio rears: as said, it is because the wider width increases the height. it's an effort to have equal height tires f/r.

I can get pictures as well.
bare minimum would be car, width, and offset. someone familiar with your platform should be able to go off that. also more info on where and when you are rubbing.
okay so here is what i have until i get pics: lexus 3GS 2006 front is a 20x9 +37 on a falken fk452 245/35/20 tanabe coilovers are set all the way down on the front. it rubs when i gradually turn left or right at 20mph or faster. turning right left side rubs, turning left right side rubs it also rubs for second when going straight and the road instantly becomes uneven (slight drop) on both sides.

id just get stiffer front springs. cheaper than tires. dont stretch on your setup please and hammer for the inner rubbing. im leaving the other fitment comments out though for niceness
let me know if there are other pictures you need me to post. i think some of the rubbing might be because the actual tire rubs the inside plastic lining of the wheel well. (as seen in one of the pictures) i'm not sure if that same rubbing is what occurs when i'm slightly turning left or right at 15mph or faster. then there is the rubbing sound i hear when driving straight and the road suddenly changes level.. the fenders are rolled so im not sure if the rubbing is even coming from the fenders now.
you are a lil, you can see it on the sidewall, but its mostly the inner id just leave it personally., or pull your inner liners

um....well 25-30mm spacers in the front would make it flush, then run a 225/or 215 tire, 215/35 is what id run didnt realize it was a fender lining, though you were rubbing metal (normally my problem) so just pull the iners turn the fronts to full hard see if it helps. i dunno how they are vlaved so it may or may not do anything for you. either way, a pair of new coilover springs maybe 4kg higher stiffness is 150 bucks...so way cheaper than tires
okay so pull the inner fender lining on both sides okay got it. i'll just try to stiffen the dampening for now and see what happens. my dumb ass already got 225/35 tires in so i'm just gonna go with you say on spacers and see how that does.. i'm gonna post a pic of the rear and tell me what you think in terms of spacers for that if possible. thanks.

id just order a pair of 20s, and see how it looks on the front and rear then order fronts from there

my take on it is that the profile is too high. splash gaurds should be trashed upon purchase. you got other issues concerning fitment but i think the major concern is the 35 series 20.
he isnt really that low no need to sacrifice comfort for no reason its like if he put a 225/30 on the rear...for no reason. his main problem is its just a soft suspension, thats all
i see what you are both saying. i DID think about the profile being to high as well. oh well i already have the tires so i'm going to mount them with spacers, adjust to full hard and see what happens today.
okay so here is where im at right now...hope u can help. the shop had a pair of 25mm spacers to test fit....i decided to put one on the front and the other on the back driver side. Just so i can see the difference. I also mounted the front wheels with the 225/35/20's. from the looks of the pics you will see that the front is pretty flush. the rear sticks out a bit more past the fender. I haven't adjusted the ride height or anything.
