y33 custom exhaust ?'s

so we have 4 o2 sensors and 2 resonators i think. how much can i take of and
1) still pass smog easily
2) not throw an error code for removing items like say the second set of cats/02 sensors?

thanks

Gotta keep all the emissions stuff...cat's have to stay. Tear out everything after that though, put in an X Pipe if possible, and some nice tips/mufflers if you want a quieter.

I ripped out everything after the 2nd O2 sensors. Straight 2.5 all the way back.
No codes and passed smog back in April exactly how it is
But gonna redo it hopefully on Friday, just got my new tips

Did ya hear it last year at AF??
IMO has a great sound

+1 on the leaving all cats in place and starting work AFTER the 2nd cats.

However, if you want it quiet'er, it's the resonators and not the tips that make the difference.

Also, and x-pipe wont do much of a difference unless you're running race headers or other modification which will make your car more 'free flowing', like removing/updating your cats.

If you notice, the Q already comes with an H-pipe, hence I would recomend updating to another (larger diamter) h-pipe as opposed to switching to an x-pipe. That's if you're going larger anyway, if not, the stock one will work fine. (based on your pic it looks like u can use the h-pipe infront of your mufflers)

Again, this is assuming you're going dual exhaust.

If you're going back to single then use a y-pipe.

On my last Q I had the secondary cats removed and a muffler delete finished with magnaflow tips. It passed smog before I sold it and never threw out any codes. I dont know if the new owner had issues or not though.

the secondary cats don't have o2 sensors after them so you won't get a cel if you remove them, but you won't pass smog for visual if they catch it. The way I did mine is 2.25" piping from the secondary cats to an x-pipe, then to 2 magnaflow 14" magnapacks, then straight pipe to the 3" tips

H-Pipe and X-Pipe equalize pressure between the cylinder banks. It makes it easier for the exhaust gases to pass through the manifolds. Think of the exhaust gases as traffic on a highyway. The h-pipe/x-pipe help traffic merge at a faster rate.

From my experience, x-pipe and h-pipe will perform pretty similar at our power levels. It really comes down to tone. For the most part, h-pipe will yield a lower tone to the exhaust. Think, turbo mufflers on a Corvette. X-pipe will have a raspier sound. Think Flowmasters on a 5.0 Mustang.

.... No 2nd Cats
No Resonators
No Mufflers
Forgot to add those LOL

So to not be a lazy FK imma answer my own question
H/X pipes will help balance pressures in the system. Mine runnin the way it is isn't ideal because each bank has its own system and basically workin alone to exhaust air. If ya had an H/X, both systems would be connected and both help each other to remove air, this free's things up and flows better. Better flowing, more power. More power, better. An X will work better than an H cause it brings both systems together at one point (like in Nismo's pic) but I'm sure if an H is kept close, it'd be fine. A couple hp diff prob wouldn't make matter for us since we cruise it anyways. As far as sounds go, there's mixed reviews on if they make it quieter or louder. So IDK on that. I'll see if we can demo that tomorrow too when I'm at the shop

Can't wait for my new exhaust  gotta fix a flat 1st thought

I will always run x-pipes, regardless of power level. Look at that picture. No way an h-pipe would flow better.

Ok
So when homeboy finished up puttin on the new 3" tips
The car sounded way meaner than before (and it used to sound good too IMO, some members here have heard it) closest thing I can compare it to is like a straight up fully built drag car
Then I asked him to put in the H and it quieted things down a bit, stills sounds awesome though =)

That's my case. I've read in a gang of different forums, people sayin it got louder, others sayin it got quieter. IDK that's how mine went. Hopefully it helps y'all with your decisions

dope alex! I just removed my cats except the pre cats. i put 5.0 mustangs to shame now. It has way more bark to it than a beefier sounding 350z.

We need video of these mods!

Brokey I will sell you my dd style exhaust off my Q

i was thinking about doing a muffler delete on my y33, but is there a difference sound-wise if there are 2 separate pipes going from where the muffler would be cut off as opposed to those 2 pipes going into a single 2.5" pipe? (then just putting a dual tip over that single)

if it's just a muffler delete then most likely no big difference. if you remove everything after the cats like some of us did, then i would think it would make a little bit of a difference.
