Its a drug and people can't handle it. It makes people slow. Keep it illegal, its not like its hard to find or expensive. I wouldn't want to be on the road with a bunch of high drivers. It would be too difficult to control IMO.

The guy that filled that in was clearly high LOL.

I was a bit surprised it didn't pass. Oh well, it is one step closer. For now we will just have to remain "criminals." And agi, I'm a little shocked at your stance on the matter. (see what I did there?)

There will be another chance in 2012, 19 would have screwed all of the little people out of cultivating their own. Effectively funneling all major production through corporations...

Look at the county breakdowns, why do you think hum bolt was a land slide no? Pot heads were the reason 19 didn't pass, it was legalization sure but just not the right kind.

Oh and don't gobble up propaganda agi, drunk drivers are 10x more dangerous. I'd rather ban alchy and replace it with ganja :420yawn:

I'm glad it didn't pass. Who wants to pay an additional $50 per ounce on top of their donation? That's like a plate of carne asada fries, 2 bags of crazy bread, and a pepperoni pizza when picking up a 1/4...

Good idea but bad execution.

IMO it shouldnt ever be legalized. it would be the first place on this earth where its legal. yes in jamaica and amsterdam it is illegal to smoke weed. they just have relaxed laws on punishment. kind of like littering here in the US.

pretty sure in the future they will decriminalize weed in CA. might be in the next running also. this first attempt just didnt address any of the issues. im sure next time they will actually have regulations which might help it pass. there were millions of dollars raised to try and get prop 19 to pass. no money was raised to try and prevent it, and it still got denied. thats how relaxed the govt was about it.

plus under federal law it would still be illegal anyway. ATF or DEA could still kick ur door down and arrest you

Haha, well the only thing about HIGH drivers is that they tend to drive slower and more cautious... Whats the harm in that?

I'm a cannabis user but i was against prop 19. I feel that Prop 19 was poorly written because it was rushed and along with that it had many loop holes in it. And the last thing we wwant is the government to regulate our shit! But i could care less, i'm a patient myself, hah.

Like others have said, it's practically legal in CA anyhow. But this brought it to the national spotlight. It's already being worked on and tweaked to be a better proposition for 2012 in CA and other states. Prop 19 got the ball rolling, it will be legal soon. There's an article in todays LA Times about it, and even opponents are somewhat getting behind the next go round. The main reason it didn't pass this time was not that people weren't ready for it, just the proposition itself lacked details and was flawed.

And people drive stoned all the time anyhow. One of the writers for the LA Times and another guy did a test by invitation of LAPD and LA Dist. Atty. Trutanich, on a closed course, they got high and then were evaluated. One did better than the other, and both did MUCH better than drunk people. There have been other tests by other PD's and regular smokers show no difference than sober people. Now, if you never ever smoke, and get FADED, yes, you probably should not drive. But if you smoke daily (raises hand) and drive after a few puffs, it's nothing.

There was actually concern over the economic effects here in British Columbia Canada. 70% of BC marijuana is exported to the US. It's estimated as a $3-7 billion dollar industry and Prop 19 would have weaked organized criminal organizations. Approximately 10,000 homes are currently used as grow ops. It would be the equivalent to massive layoffs.

Source: http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v10/n893/a06.html?1079

Also driving high is a major problem here. There is no testing available so people do it quite often. I think more people are crashing from texting/emailing/talking on cell here though even though it is now illegal here.

This was 100% the reason it 'failed.' Even people who smoked were against it because there were some glaringly blurry aspects and some not addressed at all. When the Netherlands industrialized marijuana there were crystal clear set guidelines from production, to transportation, to distribution. Prop 19 was lacking definition in all three areas. Now they can hone their focus and go in for the kill.

Yea for real. If I get in the car and I haven't smoked I feel like I can drive however I want and end up speeding/driving aggressively/ect.. not a good thing.

I know that cops in the city have strips you put on your tongue that will detect marijuana.

But they don't get used because there is no standard for marijuana intoxication and on top of that who can't pass a field sobriety test after smoking dope?

Also, think about all the people who legitimately take prescription drugs that impair their ability to drive and do it anyway?

Even if it passed nothing would of happened, Federal law has superority over state law at all times. For the most part this would of been held up in Federal court for awhile and nothing would happen. We need to repeal the ban on weed at a federal level to make a real difference. Would of been nice to see it pass though.

One of the founding ideas of our country (USA) is that the states have the right to experiment with different laws regardless of what federal law states.... are we a freaking republic or what?

an interesting quote, taken from here: http://boards.cannabis.com/activism/188143-federal-state-law-inconsistency-shouldn-t-stop-californians-legalizing-mj.html

The federal-state dynamic concerning marijuana is not complicated. Under our system of federalism, both the states and the feds may prohibit commerce in marijuana, but neither is required to do so. Similarly, during alcohol prohibition (1920-33), commerce in alcoholic beverages was prohibited not only by federal law (the Volstead Act) but by the laws of most states. In 1923, New York repealed its state prohibition laws, leaving enforcement, for the remaining 10 years, entirely to the feds. California voters overwhelmingly did the same thing in 1932, one year before national prohibition was repealed.

Let's think this through. If Proposition 19 passes, two important balls roll into the feds' court. The first is that the sole responsibility and expense of enforcing marijuana prohibition will be shifted to them. After Nov. 2, marijuana "offenders" could be arrested only by federal agents, prosecuted only under federal law, and sentenced only to federal detention.

If the feds undertook this, cases involving simple possession cases and small-time marijuana businesspeople, usually relegated to state courts, would flood federal courthouses. But even with a drastic increase in funding for federal enforcement, such activity would barely put a dent in California's marijuana trade, and would fail to stifle California's policy change, as the federal government has failed to do since the first medical marijuana laws were passed 14 years ago. Moreover, justifying the invasion into a state's province to undermine the will of the voters at such great expense to taxpayers would be highly questionable, especially in the current economic climate, not to mention a political climate that is at best lukewarm on prohibitionist policies.

The second ball is even more significant. Voter approval of Proposition 19 would shift to the feds the responsibility and burden of justifying marijuana prohibition in the first place. Now, the Washingtonians who have never questioned decades of anti-pot propaganda can explain to the people of California why we cannot be trusted to determine our state's marijuana policies. Let them endorse the prohibition laws' usefulness as a tool of oppressing minorities. Let them celebrate how minor marijuana violations cost people their jobs, their housing, custody of their kids, and entrap them permanently in vast criminal justice databases. Let them justify the utter hypocrisy of the legal treatment of alcohol and tobacco, as compared with the illegal treatment of marijuana. Let them tell us how many more people will have to be prosecuted and punished before marijuana is eradicated, how much that will cost, and where the money will come from.
