S2000 x Junction Produce Scara x build thread?

Thought I might take this opportunity to introduce myself to this community. I'm looking into a UCF21 or KA9 once I gather some extra funds together. This s2k is my 7th car and I've had it for almost 2 years. 

A lot of people ask me, "why the s2k?"... well long story short I built my first one for track/mountain driving and ended up totaling it. After a short stint with an RX-8, I missed the feeling of driving topdown in a small/good-looking car so I bought this one with different goals.

I have had over 50 sets of wheels on this car, 6 different front bumpers, and redone the fenders 6 times. It's not VIP or even VIP-style. I just have an obsession with quality wheels and quality bodywork.

Recently, I had the car shot on Vincent's negative offset Junction Produce Scara wheels...

Here's my most recent setup... Weds Kranze Shoki with air suspension. I got tired of continuously repairing and repainting my fenders. Ironically, my car is now back at the bodyshop to get the front fenders reshaped and widened again and the rear widened and radiused to match the front.

haha, i'm not that old... had my first s2k in the beginning of 08, but I do remember when withholding offsets was the thing to do. :slap:

Ordens were the best look..should have kept them.

those matte black meisters posted on the first page are 19's. I think that was the only way to try 19's on a stock body s2000... double stepped lip, black face, and with a BBK. Even then, it still looked a little big. I might try 19's again in the near future with the full radius all around.

I wasn't happy with the amount of bondo they used before so I'm making sure that they cut down on it this time.

Some Weds Kranze ER-M's that I brought over, sized 18x11 +13 (with 25mm spacer) with a 295/30 tire.

Wondering if I should stop here or go crazier...

I also decided to go with a Garage Defend rear bumper instead of the ASM 04. It actually reminds me a little of the Lorinser W220 rear.

My exhaust is tweaked from dragging on speedbumps. I'm going to cut the mufflers off and go with custom pipes. Should I keep it a dual or cut the bumper holes wider to accomodate a dual tipped muffler on both sides?

I really miss my Ordens - truly my favorite setup to date. When I imagine my car finished, it has a super aggressive set of 18" step lipped Ordens. :)

ive been on the hunt for step lipped scaras for my s2k for a while now. nothing aggressive has popped up so i may have to stick with the LM's i have. but i think it would look way diff in original finish. ive only found 1 set of 18 steps but the offsets were 30s

Even attending to the smallest details can have a visual impact. Things that some people might scoff at like removing windshield wipers. "Great job making your car less functional."

On that basis, I picked up some OEM 6th gen Honda Accord REAR door handles. I believe that they're essentially the same as the S2000 ones, but lacking a keyhole. Since everything else on my car is shaved off, I think this will go great.

Among those 50 are ~7-8 sets of VS-XX of varying specs, and maybe like 3-4 sets of LM's too.

I've had standard fitment wheels too, CE28's, few sets of TE37, etc. As long as it's a quality wheel, I'll rock it.

Stopped by the bodyshop today and wasn't too happy with their progress. They made the fenders too wide and without enough slope. It looked kind of like a JGTC car. There was a misunderstanding where they assumed that I wanted to be able to drive with the car all the way down. Because of that, they went too far.

The stock fenders with body line comes down at a 90 degree angle. Ideally, I'd like it to come out at a 45 degree angle to match the camber gain.

Another problem we ran into is the rear bumper, which is fiberglass and needs to match the quarter panel to look proper.

I decided to go with the more OEM look with the fender edge. Now it's just a matter of getting the fender shape right.

Right now (because of the radius), my dilemma is to either go back to coilovers, go with a higher profile tire, or go with 19's.

One side is almost (about 75%) good to go. Only a few minor adjustments need to be made. A LOT more fiberglass was added to the rear bumper

I threw on some Ordens I had laying around (18x9.5 +38, 265/35/18 & 18x8.5 +26, 235/40/18) and was surprised to find that I actually didn't have that much more clearance in the front... needless to say, that's what had me wanting to widen it more. I could probably fit some 50mm spacers in the rear as it sits.

Keep in mind that this side still isn't done. No progress has been made since the last update, however they should be getting back to my car soon.

Again, I'm not happy with the rear radius, but there isn't much I can do without doing a full tub. I'll do that as a last resort if the end result doesn't make me happy, but it's difficult with the gas tank and convertible softtop motors right above the wheel well.

The plan is also to go back to full coilovers. Right now, I'm looking into custom valved Tein Monoflex coilovers with 26kg/24kg springs. We'll see how that goes.

That's it. That's one of the pics I saw. As long as you're happy with the car, everything else is just an opinion. Like I stated, there were some set ups I liked, some :-/. If it were my car I probably would have stopped at the wide M7s :shrug:. I like everything else about your s2k. Color, kit, etc.

That would be extremely ideal, however a quality coilover + cup kit = $5k, so unless platinum vip wants to sponsor me, it's one or the other right now.

ideally, you wouldn't park lower with a cup setup -- you'd ride around with it at 0 psi. your drive height is your park height. raising it while driving will fuck with your spring rate.

^while this is true, ive HEARD that plat vip took measures to make sure you can in fact drive with psi in the cup...any validity to this?

a few guys actually do drive with air in the cup (brian with the m3/45 does, as do a few of the other guys). you can do it, but then why not just go bags? you lose the real benefit of the cup if you drive aired up. just my 2 RMB

Even though the bodyshop is an hour and a half drive round trip, I try to make it down there at least twice a week to stay on top of things.

There are a few things to note about radiusing an s2000's fenders... it's that they are horizontal rather than a traditional vertical fender meaning that there isn't very much inner space when you're talking about ceiling clearance. If you ride low enough, it's very easy to smack the top of the fenders and you'll see the damage right away on the outside. Because of that, not only have I widened them, but also had strips cut so that the fender is literally raised up about 3cm.

Final measurements should be:

F: 3cm up, 4cm out
R: 2cm up, 5cm out

For comparison, the Amuse GT1 widebody is 50mm wider up front and 40mm wider in the rear. APR widebody is 50R/45F.

air is compressible -- you'd change the spring rate with air in the cup. with 0 psi, you'd be riding solid, since the two halves of the cup would be sitting on top of each other.

You would have higher spring rate when driving aired up, no?

i would say no, but that also depends on the rate. in most cases it will lower it

since the OP is contributing to the conversation and asking questions as well, i'll continue using this thread to ask questions about cup kits :D  while i realize that air in the cup WILL affect the spring rate, wouldnt it still be stiffer than riding with air in say, Airrunner?

Hands down this s2k has the best fitment, and has had best choice of wheels if all s2ks i've seen.

Their spring rates range from 30k-40k which is far stiffer than even the Tanabe Super Low Form coilovers.

I'll most likely be running 24k springs all around. It would be nice to have a cup kit, although it shouldn't be necessary with those rates.

yea man taht sounds awesome..i want a cup kit for the sole fact that i wont be able to do a full wheel lock so id like to be able to lift up to make a uturn haha besides that im going with stiffer springs all around as well.  i hear swift really are the best.  cant wait for more updates!

Rear bumper is nearly complete (about 75%) so I held it up and took a picture.

Driver side quarter panel is 90% done. Passenger side is about 50% done.

Front fenders will be another couple of days. Hoping to get the car back by Dec. 1st.

Bodywise, here's what's left:
-Cut rear bumper to accomodate quad exhaust
-Slightly round off the edge from the front of the J's Racing sideskirts to match the lines of the front bumper
-Strip engine bay
-Repaint the entire car (BASF Glasurit)
-Cut and buff

I'm not 100% happy, but I feel like it would take another year for me to be...

This is as of Saturday morning. The arches were smoothed out, and the transition to the bumper was also worked on. Car was primered and sitting to dry.

You realize that he's only in the filler process and the waves are taken out during the primer, guidecoat, block, guidecoat, block and primer stage right, ??? no you didn't, otherwise you wouldn't have made that comment.  Its an on going process, from 180 grit twice or three times then primer, 320 twice or three times, 600, paint.

Yeah, but not at the rate that I waste money, haha. My front fenders have been sprayed 6 times now from being too low. That's a few thousand on the fenders alone (before the widebody this time around). I would keep smacking the inner ceiling of the fenders and eventually the paint would crack on top. I'm also really anal about imperfections so I would get it fixed the next day.

Looking prime costs a lot. I'm just glad that I kept everything metal.

Those problems happened on coilovers. I only drove on air for a couple of weeks before sending it back into the shop. :)

Cracked my fender 5 minutes after leaving the bodyshop today. I was being stupid thinking I could drive with almost no air in the front. Car isn't done yet, but I just wanted to drive it around this weekend and bring it back on Monday.

I'll have some nicer shots tomorrow...

I got the entire front bumper, sideskirts, engine bay, and rear bumper all resprayed before WekFest.

Had the wheels/tires mounted and got the car aligned.

I had to remove my cold air intake and nitrous for the drive up so I just stuck a K&N filter on the end of the manifold. Finally back home, I began re-installing the intake arm and snapped a quick photo.

Yeah but I had to take it out along with my CAI for the drive up since it was pouring the whole weekend. I basically stuck my filter onto the end of the intake manifold and drove up.
