Extreme Stretch
Currently I have Hankook Ventus 4's (235/35 on an 11). I need a little more stretch so I'm thinking 235/30 will do.
I don't quite like the Hankooks for extreme stretching, or at least the last few sets I've had in the rear because they bubble, I'm guessing because I hit a pot hole and I know once it bent the rim, the other time I'm not sure.
I'm considering looking into other brands. Two on my mind are Nankang's and Generals.
I'm wondering if the following sizes can stretch well and if they'll hold air. My Hankook's haven't let me down in the department. For the Nankangs I'm thinking a 245/30 and for the Generals a 225/30 since the first runs small and the latter runs large. I figure it would be equivalent to a true tire like the Hankook.
I'm wondering how easily they will stretch, how well they'll hold the air, and if anyone has had any bubbling issues doing such an extreme stretch. I guess tire life is another concern of mine as well. Any input would be much appreciated.

levon, keep in mind the load rating for the tires too -- running more weight than the tire is rated for may be contributing to your bubbling issues

To be honest (and this is just IMO), forget about tire life when it comes to stretching tires. Especially if you're going for an extreme stretch and/or extreme camber specs. I don't believe the tires were R&D'd to be stretched, so we kind of have to accept the side effects. Abnormal wear, bubbles, leaks, busting the bead, etc. Not much can be done about it until someone releases a tire designed for stretching (if that ever happens). As for those specific brands, sorry I have no experience. I've heard General works good, but I dunno for sure. I try to stick with Yokohama. GL!!!

I dont think 235/30 on a 11 is gonna work. Unless you know a shop that could do it, the ones I been to just fucked up the tires haha.

yeah, 30 series is kinda sketchy, i'd urge you to look more into a brand that runs smaller bro. Diamondback tires been good to me. Tread pattern on the outers towards the side wall is kinda ridged when stretched, but tires give off a real good stretch and have worn way better than falkens and fullruns. 235/35 on my 9.5 looks way stretched for what it is. Diamondback and Triangle are the same co. just for reference.

Ur better off getting some real fender work done to fit those aggressive wheels then to try and fine the smallest tires and max camber to make em fit....

^^^+1.
When you have a blow out and it fuks up your wheel you're going to wish you had more sidewall.

Tread life isn't really a huge concern, but I'd like them to last a fair amount. Don't wanna be done with the tires within 6 months (after flipping).
Right now I have a 235/30 on a 10.5, one side came out cleaner than the other, no bubbling thus far either. I haven't had any bubbling on my 235/35 on the 11 yet, seems to be holding up well. I think my issue before was hitting a pothole.
As for fender work, I don't have the money for it. If I'm doing it, I'm doing it right, metal widebody.
The 35 sidewall is a tad too high. Maybe if I went with a 245/30 it would work but I'd hate to buy them and find out it's still rubbing.
I do know a couple shops around here that can stretch that. One of them stretched a 225/35 on a 10.5. Came out clean on the inner part but not so clean on the outer.
I now have a 235/30 on the 10.5 and it's a MUCH cleaner stretch than the 225/35. Maybe because the tires were laying in the sun before mounting and then a couple days in the sun after mounting before putting on the car? Or maybe the shop that did it. I dunno.
Here's a 235/35 on the 11.
I just need a little bit more stretch out of it.
Also, Nelson, out of curiousity, why a brand that runs smaller?

A brand that runs smaller will give off more stretch as opposed to one that runs true to size or even large or bulky. You could get more clearance from the same size tire just different brand that runs smaller.

Oh ok, yeah I knew that. Here's what I'm thinking and this is also what I want to verify.
A tire that runs smaller, say a Nankang 245/35. Is it equivalent to a Hankook (true size) 235/35? Or is it a little more of a stretch than it? I know comparing the same tires the 235/35 would differ, but just curious about small vs. true and how much the difference is. Reason for that is if I get the 245/35 small, I would want it to stretch more than the 235/35 true. Otherwise I'd be better off with a 235/35 small if the stretch isn't equivalent...if that makes any sense.

Yeah, that's the idea unfortunately I can't vouch for sure because I've never run nankangs. Verys from brand to brand. All I know is stay away from sunny tires, lol. Super bulky and didn't want to stretch worth a damn. Tire catalog here is a good starting point. That and your own experience with other brands should help narrow the process of elimination down. I'm with you bro, makes sense. Good luck.

just pull your fenders and add more negative camber, it will be clean if you do it right and its not too expensive.

Fenders can't be pulled anymore. It's maxed out due to the double wall. I could add more negative camber, just need longer toe arms since I'm close to the last few threads. Wish I could dial in more negative camber up front to give it an even look.
I think I'll either go with a tire that runs large and go with a smaller size or go with a tire that runs small and go with the size I have now. Tough choice. Worst comes to worst if it's not enough then I'll dial in that negative camber, just not sure how much I'll have to.
Wish I knew someone that could cut the inner fender wall, give me more of a pull, and reinforce it without costing an arm and a leg.
Kris, thanks for the link. I'll dig into it and see if I can find any info that can help me out.

I usually run nitto nt555 and have had great luck. recently trying Nexen's on the back and so far so good. Yokohamas bubble up on me. Nexens seem to run small though.

Nada thing Levon, you're welcome bro...just pray that your source always has the brand/size on deck once you figure out which ones work, lol.
