I used to roll through Waiks all the time too, maybe that's the key...you become a regular fixture and they ignore you.

I lived in waikiki the last 3 years - 1st kalakaua and then ala wai and then on queen st - I just roll through like nothing is wrong - like i own the block and keep it moving - i got one recon ticket and ive been pulled over twice which is not bad for 3 years

Most guys don't drive in town period because they say all the rookie cops are in Waikiki and they will be quick to ticket u for reconstruction. Any modified car needs a recon inspection to drive legally in the state of Hawaii.   I know guys that don't drive pass salt lake. We drive everywhere. Don't really have a choice when u live down there.

so in hawaii if anything is touchd you need a "special" sticker, yet even if what you have done is legal?

recon ticket? dayam that suckkkks. i thought sd was bad with the racers getting their hoods popped, but i can't imagine getting a ticket for everything else. hahah. but yeah.... nice vid... i was hoping to see your car rollin too.

its all illegal until its documented and you pass recon inspection - from air intake to exhaust and after market wheels

do you need any paper work on the aftermarket products, or do they simply just note it down as, wheels, exhaust ect. im only asking in depth as im thinking of moving out their lol

oh you have to schedule a recon appointment and it all has to be documented in spec - check forums hawaii - they have a listing that tells you all about it - camber is a fail, poke fail, stiff suspension fail, license plate and ground clearance fail if its not at a certain height

Recon sucks. Recon is not a safety inspection (we also have those), it's a program from back in the 70's or something that is now out of date and mis-used. Even the people that work there say it is mis-used, mainly because everything is open to the interpretation of whoever performs the inspection. So if you get the guy having a good day, you pass, guy having a bad day, you fail (same car). Most people don't get recon. In fact you can buy shirts and stickers that say F#$% Recon. One year I had $3000 in recon tickets. Depends what you drive. I call it the Hot Rod Tax. Pretty much anything extreme will fail you. Recon is only on the island of Oahu, outer islands you can do whatever you want. Oh, and beware Hawaii people, beware the red dot. It only started happening recently (2010). Cops realized that people just take the recon tickets and pay it and don't change shit. So now they can "red dot" you, and when you goto register you will be flagged and have to show recon paperwork at the DMV in order to register. They new way of trying to make people conform.... Already happened to friends of mine ....

Wow I had no idea it was that bad.  After an RCMP officer Jimmy Ng was killed in a street race and hit and run in Richmond BC a few years ago things got very heated in the Vancouver area.  For a while there were plenty of "modified vehicle road blocks"  People would get towed or were given vehicle inspection notices for being too low, no front plates etc etc.  Police can give out inspection notices at any time for any reason here.  Even after you get your inspection you could get another notice the next day.

recon is wack, you want a vip styled car ill tell you it aint gonna pass recon.  stretch tires fail, any form of camber (even -1 degrees) fail, stiff suspension fail, headlights have to measure at a certain height from the ground to pass so no slammage or else fail.  i actually passed recon for my car, but did all the illegal things after.  but if i were to get pulled over and my car get inspected i can get my sticker scraped and papers revoked and also ticketed for recon fraud.  ive heard numerous occasions where cops will scrape the owners sticker off on the spot when getting pulled over.  fuck recon

is that just cause they need money?

its a dumb way for the state to have an excuse to make money.

RECON Sucks no doubt....but being able to live in Hawaii....to me its all worth it.  I don't see myself living anywhere else.  Everyone comes here for Vacation and I get to live here all the time.  

Black "Dirty" GS has immunity in Waiks..........he's got the connections!  I work in Waiks so I drive there every day.  I have gotten pulled over multiple times but I got no where close to the number of tickets as AcUrALiTy.  Wow that is what I call dedication.

well i wouldnt say its all waikiki, thats from the beginning when i had my first modified car at 15 till now. 11 years on the road will souped up cars.  tickets ranging from loud exhaust, no front plate, illegal tint, no recon, etc.
