Ls400 or Q45?
So I'm saving up for a car right now, and I don't really know what to get. I'm stuck between a 98 Ls400, 98 Q45, 93 Gs300, or a 98 Gs300. I guess its between the V8's and the JZ's... I just need your guys' help and input. Thanks.
:Edit: Or should I just save up until my 2nd year of college and buy a used 3rd gen GS?

LS and Q will come out classier, GS will be easier.
IMO, 1GS is a no go. Just me though, they are tougher to mod and it's an older vehicle...
I'm doing the same thing but my choices are only between Qs and LSs and it's a daily/project/winter car.
Hmmm

The Q can handle lower offset/wider wheels than an LS but that isn't necessarily "better fitment." Personally I just prefer Lexus over Infinity. The LS400 is a great car even for it's age and the UZ engine is pretty solid with regular maintenance.

I was kind of in the same situation...I just happened to come across a killer deal on my LS so I picked it up...even for a 91 I feel baller driving it. Its just a classy car IMO.

I personally prefer an LS or GS myself. IMO I haven't seen as many Qs done up lately, so that might be more worth it for you to do something slightly different

There has to be at least as many Q's as LS on this forum by now, there's a new Y33 build thread every other day lol. Either get an LS or Q out of your choices cause both are great cars. I prefer the Y33 though, had mine for 6 years and loved the hell out of it. It served me well the whole time and continues to serve a friends cousin to this day w/ no problems.

Very broad question, it really comes down to preference.
I was in the same boat about 2 weeks ago but I just saw a 2000 Q one day passing a dealership that i fell in love with and got a good price for it and that was all she wrote.
Its really up to you, both cars were competitors back in the day so its not like one really outshines the other.
Just be patient and take your time. Test drive both cars, get a feel for them. Look around. And if you see a good deal jump on it.

thanks guys. I really like the 98 lexus because of the headlights. I don't like the rectangular shape of the 97 and lower ones. As for the Q45 I don't really know... i like how it has the clock, idk it just adds some "VIPness" to the car. For the GS300 as you guys said the 1st gen isn't really all that. I really want a 2nd Gen GS300 because it looks a lot cleaner and i guess it fits me as a person.

Big body's all the way.
If your looking into a UCF21 then consider the options for the particular year. A 99 or 2000 were the best years to get. Wood grain on the steering wheel and shift knob were standard instead of an option. Daytime running lamps were added. Drivers side mirror tilt down was added. Floor mats were standard. And in 2000 hid's were standard and Platinum series was introduced as one of the models which was the best one to get...imo. The details like that kinda matter to me cause then you wouldn't have to piece everything together. Another thing about the UCF21...don't get one with the navigation. The maps suck and can no longer be updated. Aftermarket is better. Oh and some came with heated seats too. With all that said, the same goes with Infiniti too. Different options for different years. Something to think about.
Another thing to consider is if your gonna keep the car for a long time then the question should be asked... which one is more reliable? Well I've owned both Nissan's and Toyota's. And I can only speak for myself and a Toyota seems to be less maintenance. But if your not worried about that, then ultimately I guess it all comes down to looks and what you can afford at the time. Your gonna buy the car to mod anyways so the "VIPness" will come reguarless if one seemed more or less. That's why your buying the car, right? To get into the sport. To make it your own.
Oh yea, I drive an Infiniti now. But I like both...go figure...

I've been looking around but the prices are all over the place. Whats a good price for a 99-00 LS, 98Q45, and a 98GS300?

Well you have to factor in the condition and miles to determine that. The older and more miles the cheaper. But for something in really good shape with low miles. For what you got listed I wouldn't pay over 9k or 10k for an LS or GS. Q's are always cheaper. 4 to 6k. But that's all up to you on what you can afford. You can get on KBB.com to give you an estimate on what the car's worth. There's always stuff on Craigslist you can check out too to see what people usually sell them for. Personally I don't mind paying a little more for something clean with low miles. If you do your research then you know you get what you pay for.

only reason why i like the lexus over my Q is because it has dual climate control. i wouldn't get a gs over an LS unless i was doing an engine swap. i wouldn't do an LS over a Q unless it was a 430. but ucf2x and y33 are both wins in my book. but like stated earlier, you have more suspension options with the Q since its interchangeable with s13/14 parts which also makes options more affordable if you know what you're doing. and your wheels can be deeper with less work if you're a number chaser.

This might be an off topic question but since both the Q and the LS are V8's does anyone do any substantial exhaust mods?

Go for a ride in whatever types of cars you're considering. Feel it out. Go with the one you like the best.

Ls and the Qs are both great looking cars but to me i think the Qs have nicer interior if that matters to you.

Those platforms are money across the board, you cant really lose. I will say this as a owner the gs300 is underpower compared to the rest. So unless you planning to do mods later you might wanna grab a V8.
