Vincent; ucf21 build
So Ive had a gs300 and a 2jzgte / v160 swapped sc300. Both the gs / sc are sold now and now I've picked up a 1999 ls400. Ive had the car for approximately 4-5 months so far, havent really done too much but I wanted a place to dump all my photos and keep track of everything. So why not make a "build" thread.
I dont have any pics of when I first bought the car. But the factory rims were bugging me and I came across a set of 370z rims for pretty cheap and picked them up. There is about like a 1 or 2mm clearance for my brakes with these rims, got lucky. Picked up some megan lp sport coilovers and tinted the car and hit up my homie for a photoshoot
Also picked up a set of front + rear youzealand ss kit. It lowered the car 20mm more all around to get rid of that wheel gap
Then went over to mikes muffler and got a 2.25" piping all the way back and removed the resonator and first two mufflers. The two rear mufflers are still in place, will be replaced soon. Still too quiet
So my factory stereo screen display stopped working and wasnt showing any numbers. So I decided to replace it with aftermarket double din.
Pioneer Avic Z120bt
Infinity 860w
Infinity Kappa Five
Polk Audio db651
Metra dash kit
Still not installed yet, waiting on the wire harness before I send it to the shop to get installed
Ended up fatmatting my entire trunk, trunk lid, rear seat, and rear deck
Only have pics of the trunk though, forgot to take pics of the other locations
Sorry, i'm not baller enough to afford dynamat haha
Then I traded my weds kranze shoki's for a set of fabulous profounds 19"
Did a quick test fit, going to need a spacer up front to clear my brakes. The rears I havent taken a pic of but will need atleast a 25mm spacer. Dropped the rims off to get refinished and will post more pics of it on the car when I get it back
Picked up these headlights from joe 2 days ago.
LS460 low beam w/ sti clear lens
FX35 bi-xenon w/ color mod
Clear turn signals
Right now its 4300k but i'm still debating if I should do a 6000k or not
Recently just got a oil change, transmission flush, diff oil change, spark plug change, brakes bled, and coolant temp sensor. Maintenance should be ok for now, until it hits 90k
Thats it for now, i'll post more in this thread as I get more done to my car.

I have an appointment setup with the shop on wednesday to get everything installed. I'll post pics of how the subwoofer sits, hopefully there is no clearance issues. If there is, i'll just have him make a mdf spacer to raise it up a bit to clear the gas tank
Ive lagged the install coz i was waiting on a pioneer ipod integration cable to arrive, that thing took forever to get here. But now I have everything needed to install

if they were both stock, LS definitely. But there is much more aftermarket support for the 2GS making parts alot cheaper compared to the LS. But overall id still choose my LS over the 2GS

Got a chance to install my system today. Snapped some pics, please dont comment on the quality, it was all taken with my camera phone.
Tear down begins
Drill hole and install backup camera
Infinity kappa five amp, hidden in the trunk
mockup off the car
Pioneer avic z120bt installed
I didnt get a chance to take a pic of the subwoofer installed on the rear deck. But this little 8" hits hard. Now i'm kicking myself for being too lazy to put sound deadening on the top of the rear deck. Only did the bottom of the rear deck. Got some rattles, hopefully more sound deadening will help

Hmm I will try to get that vid up for you. There was some minor clearance issues, but with the under rear deck fabric liner. I trimmed that up cleanly and no more clearance issues. It clears the gas tank as well. Although i laid down more sound deadening on the top of the rear deck last night, theres still some rattles. Mainly coming from the subwoofer grill cover

Thanks alot freddie
I was frustrated because i sound deadened basically everything in the rear except the doors. And i still had a bit of rattle. So i took everything apart, turned the volume up and tried to locate what was rattling. Turns out the white seatbelt retainer box was the culprit. Added some sound deadening and now im proud to say there are no more rattles =)

I was wondering if anyone in socal near arcadia can help me drill a hole for my UCA clearance. Getting annoying now ever since i installed the ss kit. It hits way more often. Everytime it hits a big bump / dip my rear view mirror drops down like a inch or more, and i have to realign it while im driving

So I threw on the front rims, but they needed a spacer to clear. I slapped on my 5mm but it still wouldnt clear and I didnt want to go past a 5mm for lack of spins on the lugnut. So I decided to call some buddies over and we grinded down my calipers on the area's that it was hitting so the wheel would clear.
Overall grinded about 3mm and it barely clears the wheel now, the most I can slide between the caliper and the spokes is a sheet of paper
I didnt want to have my caliper expose bare metal, looked incomplete. So I decided to paint my calipers.
Went to autozone and picked up a few things
Duplicolor metal specks (silver)
Plastikote Flexible spot filler and primer (grey)
Rustoleum Engine Enamel 500 degree high temp clear coat
Didnt take pics of each step, just pics of each spray
Heres the primer on
Heres a layer of the metal specks silver on
Finished, put the wheel back on
Upclose shot. When the flash hits the paint all the flakes show up
And this is where my baby sleeps at night

Right now I'm running a 5mm up front. I could actually lower the front a tad bit more and space it out more, but then I'd have to run extended studs and buy new open ended lugs. That'll be a bitch, so for now this is how she sits. I'm content with it

So after I put on the fabulous profounds, it lowered my car about 1.5" just due to sidewall height. Went from a 225/50/18 to a 225/35/19
And because of that, I would scrape my exhaust on every driveway. And I already had it tucked up, apparently not enough. So I went to my local muffler shop and got it taken care of
My car on their rack
The main problem area, hung about 1 inch or so below the frame
Cutting off the x-pipe and rear portion
Removed the main heatshield right above the x-pipe. It prevented me from going any higher so it was removed. I may or may not put on some exhaust wrap tubing depending on if i feel any excess heat coming into the cabin
2x4 laid flat against the frame. Now my piping clears the frame by about 2 inches or so. So if I scrape anything now, i'll be scraping frame
All completed
Oh and one of my friends dropped by to adjust his mufflers on his full exhaust system
Porsche Panamera Turbo
Upskirt

The car actually is pretty quiet even with all the stuff i removed. My mufflers are 14 inch straight through. Maybe if I went with a smaller muffler and a chambered one itd sound louder. But for now my setup is decent, atleast cops wont hassle me

Got an alignment today finally. Good thing I did it before I mess up my brand new tires lol
Pretty difficult getting up the rack, scraped frame the whole way up even with 2x4's. And my rear tires would spin and shoot the 2x4's out from under the car so many times. Had to sit in the trunk and have ppl push the car up onto the rack
Specs are now -2.5 camber front and -4.5 camber rear. All factory adjustments
Ppl are telling me to get toe as close to 0.00 as possible but the alignment guy said that he put it under oem specs

So I didnt like how the rear end of my car looked so empty with no tips visible. So I decided to do something about it. Ordered some quad tips, I actually ordered 2 set of quads coz I didnt know which one to go with. But I decided on these, the other set will be for sale in a little bit along with my mufflers. Gonna go straight pipe with these tips.
Gonna cut my rear bumper this weekend and get the tips tucked up flush against the rear bumper cutout opening. I'll probably have them extended about 2-3" from the rear bumper, no more than that or I cant fit in my garage
Here they are laying on the ground

Got the tips installed this morning. It was scary cutting up my rear bumper, I made a scratch on my rear bumper while cutting it coz the disk was too large, so I'll probably cover it up with some touch up paint later on.
Driving back home was scary, afraid of getting pulled over. Way louder than I expected it to be. Theres a resonator in each tip so thats a total of 4 resonators and its still pretty damn loud. Anything past 2,000 rpm drones like hell. I'll probably have to add another resonator to quiet it down some more
Taping up the rear bumper and drawing where to cut

Np man. You're making me motivated to start on my LS460 tips mod. Just kind of hesitant to cut into the wald lip, but I guess if I can make a front bumper, I am sure it won't be too bad to just add in some inserts.

Quality is not the greatest, taken with my phone. The staticy sound is coz we were revving in the building and the sounds were echoing

well i upped the piping to 2.25" so maybe thats why its louder? The tips have 1 resonator in each tip so thats 4 resonators but they dont seem to be doing much lol. I ordered 2 more resonators to put on, and i'll post up a video of how it sounds then. Hopefully it does the trick, and i wont have to be worrying about cops

So my homie sells leds and he told me he had a led puddle light kit. Supposedly its exactly the same as the monarch kit without their logo on the box. I compared the two kits, and they look identical. It was a pain in the ass to install, took us about 7 hours to do everything. The cutting and measuring took the longest. And the lights still aren't 100% straight, due to how my side skirt curves downwards. If it was flat like most aftermarket side skirts itd be wayyyyyy easier
Anyways, onto the pics. I will have installed pics later on, didnt have a chance to take any yet

Gonna take the megan lp sport coilovers off and sell them. Didn't go low enough to my liking
I ended up ordering d2 racing RS coilovers because I saw this LS400 from autofashion's vip festival. Apparently hes only on d2 coilovers and hes that low. So if i have these coilovers + youzealand ss kit all around. I'm pretty sure I'd have the option of laying frame. (after I cut the hole for uca clearance)

Ive already hammered my rear inner fender all the way flat as possible and sprayed it with some black rubberized coating to prevent rust. I'll snap a pic of it when I go ahead and install the d2 coilovers when they arrive.
Btw your car is sickkk. If I had more funds to play with I would totally bodywork my car to fit 12j neg offset in the rear

Oh and my coilovers came in. I prefer this design where I can twist the bottom portion all the way up until it touches the top two collars(did it right after this pic). I'm pretty sure it'll go low enough for me, if not time to remove some collars. They are 18kg front and 8kg rear

I had powered by max coilovers on my sc300 and they are 18/12. The front was perfect for me considering how heavy the car is but the rear was a tad too stiff so I went lower for the rears.
As for next set of rims, it'll be under wraps til wekfest

Decided to do the UCA clearance mod today. Dropped by my friend's shop Jason Noren Fabrications in upland. At first I was just going to leave it be a circular hole but Jason suggested that we cover up the hole with a box. Here are the results. Glad to say my UCA doesnt bang against my car anymore
Getting started
Hole halfway cut
Hole completely cut, UCA visible
Measuring placement for the box
Box complete, mock test fit not welded onto car yet
Paint grinded off to prepare for welds
Up close of the tig welding
So we figured out the hood wouldnt close because the hood struts would touch the box. Modifications were made so the hood would close but still have the box there
Final design of the uca box that clears the hood struts

I just wouldn't like all the added mess during foul weather up in the top of the engine bay if it was left open. I think it's a great mod and works as needed. Again, well done.

So I havent made much progress in awhile. Thought Id update my thread on what I completed today. Ordered some E-46 shrouds from The Retrofit Source.
Heating up the headlights to get the lenses off
Disassembled
Housings off
Primered
Nighthawk black pearl paint w/ flakes
Up close
Preparing to seal the headlights
Complete
On the car
Gotta black out the housing of the turn signals as well but I'm trying to figure out how to open them. Doesnt seem the same as the headlights. Might have to cut them open with a dremel and re-seal. Not sure yet. But it will happen

ive looked into doing the signal lights on my 99ls and found that they were fused together in a different manor than the headlights. i had one that broke awhile back and used it as a test run and found that i had to actually cut the lens from the light. from there i had to cut a channel in it for adhesive. theres a set on ebay however that comes with blacked out headlights (minus the retrofit) and comes with corners that are already blacked out and have had the orange removed. let me know if you come up with a way for it to work differently.

So turn signals are done. Alot harder than I expected it to be. Didnt come out as well as I expected it to. When cutting with the dremel is melted some of the plastic material so when I tried to realign them back together to seal it, there was gaps. So I guess I'll just end up buying a set of pre-done black turn signals off ebay or somewhere and just use those. But until I can source a seller who will sell the turn signals only, these will have to do.

i heat up the old one + new sealant.
For the turns, they are 1 piece and cant be heated up to seperate them. So I cut the housing itself. I regret it though because I kinda rushed it and there are imperfections. I'm waiting for a response from an ebay seller for depo all black turn signals, and just put those on my car to complete my lights

Lol yeah, its a bit much for me. Still deciding if I should keep the 235's or pull the fenders a tad bit more and run a 245 =\
Anyways, my brother bought me a generic supra tt strut bar off ebay to put on my car. I figured I might as well put it on my car. Had to put washers under to make it clear the engine cover

Well my uncle owns asuka design and they build custom carbon fiber kits. I took it to his shop and this was the way that he told me to do it. Ive seen other ppls diy's posted up online and they start the mold with just chopped mat and resin, but my uncle told me to use fabric first. Who knows, it worked I guess. I'm going to put a bunch of layers of mat on top of this once I get more material

yeah, its why people use the fleece cause it absorbs the best, and makes a nice playing field for the fiberglass, or what ever material.

its still happening, i just finished laying down the fiberglass yesterday. Once it dries I'll go ahead and cut the mdf wood and try to finish it up. The front of the box will just be a flat piece of mdf wood, keeping it simple

Okay finally got the wheels back from wheelflip. The specs ended up being a bit more aggressive than what I was quoted. So we sent it out to get the back pad shaved down 6-7mm. But still needed some pulling to fit. Tried to get it to work but the fender still barely sat on top of the tire. I was going to bodywork it in the next month or two so I figured I might as well bring it in early and get these wheels to fit
Never took any of my cars to get any fender work done before, so this is all new territory for me. Any ideas on how I should do the fenders? They are really wavy right now from the pull, but not too noticeable from far
Heres some quick pics I snapped at the bodyshop

nice work so far, but i recommend flaring the doors also.. it'll blend in so much better.. with all that filler already added to get that body line, adding 5-10 mm of filler on the door too won't hurt..
make sure u spend some time on the inner fenders also and get a nice tubb... i spent more time on inner fender metal work than outside fender work..

Yeah ran into a few issues of the tire rubbing on the inner tub wheel well frame where the door section is. But I was trying to do this on a budget, if I had to do the door too id basically have to paint 3/4 of that side which is basically almost a full respray. No more dinero

i llike the style they went for, although i do agree that into the doors would look better (do what you gotta do though) and that does look like a lot of filler build up. any pics before the bondeezy?

Its always nice to do the doors as well. It would be nice to find a money tree too.
Doing the doors right typically would almost double the cost.

Was supposed to pick up the car today, but as I was driving home with the car the tire kept rubbing the door jambs. Ended up melting the paint. So it goes back into bodyshop to somehow fix this issue. Either cut it or find a money tree and flare the doors too.
Heres an example of how to fix it, but I'm trying to figure out a way without having to do the doors and drop another grand into it =\
