if it's stock air, i dont see why u cant have robert source a data systems controller for it.

from what ive read on here even some first gen LS come with air suspension stock. If the chassis code ends with 1 then it has air. Example ucf20 vs ucf21. I thought the difference was that the 21 model was 98-00 and the 20 was 95-97. But 95-97 is labeled before m/c (minor change) and 98-00 is labeled after m/c. But yes, by all means get a data controller, just dont abuse it.

Thanks, what about lowering for now???
I will eventually get the data controller, but for now, is there a way to manually lower that thing just a bit???
it sits kinda high

aside from cutting holes in your air lines to permanently lower it, I don't think there's a switch or anything to lower it manually.

I have an 06 LS430, anyway I can tell if it has an air suspension. I would of started my own thread, cant seem to figure how to do it. Sorry, thanks.

i THINK the only one that has air is the Ultra Luxury one. if you have the ultra lux package, you have air.

LOL at the wrong link... Ermmm cant you just reach behind the wheel and feel for a spring? I mean, it just seems like the logical thing to do... If it has a tight bag or you really cant feel a spring then it should be air.
Other giveaways would be a button on the dash for Norm/High and a switch in the boot for a master on/off switch (to be used when jacking the car up)
and as for temporarily lowering an air suspensioned car it is very easy (unless you are the type that is scared to reach behind your wheels, in which case you should just take it to someone who knows what they are doing :p). The height of the car is governed by height sensors on each corner rather than bag pressures like aftermarket units. The sensors have an arm that is connected to the control arm (either the upper or lower one...) by an adjustable rod. By adjusting these rods it is possible to 'fool' the computer into thinking the car is too high, therefore adjusting the car lower
The rod has a ball joint on each side, one locking nut on each side and a hex grip in the middle for a 10 or 12mm spanner. Simply loosen the locking nuts and turn the centre bit to lengthen or shorten it.
You need to keep track of how much you shorten/lengthen it, i.e 4 complete turns etc and do the same amount left and right. Then simply tighten the lock nuts, put the wheel back on, and take it for a drive, it takes up to 15 minutes for the change to be visible after which you can decide if you want to go lower or not.
The rod is usually 1/2 or 1/3rd the way along the control arm meaning the change in length of the rod is magified at the wheel - i.e. 1/2" at the rod might be equivelant to 1-1.5" at the wheel
As for whether it needs to be shortened/lengthened, it depends on whether the sensor is above or below the arm. If the sensor is on the top of the arm, i.e. the rod connects to the lower control arm and the sensor is above it, then you need to SHORTEN the rod. If the rod connects to the upper control arm and the sensor is below it then you need to LENGTHEN the rod

Newbie here:
How does one get in touch with Robert re: sourcing an ASE?
Also, what's the difference between the 664 and the (680?)
And one more: it was mentioned not to "abuse" it--does this simply mean don't drive around on "superlow" or is frequent raising/lowering the mechanism considered abusing?
Just trying to understand the limits of what the ASE can do for me and how it should be properly used.
Thanks!

I had my controller kind of old school now....... over 5 yrs Same one Dominik had on his car. Still works great I dont think you can abuse the thing I use the HELL out of it.
Getting a controller is EASY... the tricky part is making sure the harness is the right one for your car. I have 2 USED controllers here at the house:
1. ASE677 w/ harness for UCF31
2. ASE664 needs a harness
Most cars have 2 harness like the 1st Gen LS that you pick from to fit the car.

The controller I had was an ASG series (ASG631 i think), and in my opinion it is alot better than the series that replaced it.
It had a dot-matrix graphical display that gave you bar-graph representations of the height of each strut. All other features are pretty much the same as the ASE though, its just that it has graphics (albeit primitive). Downsides is that its 'oldschool' and doesnt have cool blue backlighting :)
Edit: Here's a couple from Yahoo

So is there really any *functional* differences in the various models? I do understand that the ASE series has the speed-sensitive automatic lowering mode, but other than that I just don't know.
Any idea where to source a harness for a 1990 LS400?
Robert, how much for the 664?

ASI is the lowest and that doesnt even have memory positions
ASE/ASG has almost identical features, but i'm not sure if the ASE has TEMS HARD mode. Both have speed-dependant height changing, 3 memory positions, speed display, current height display, superlow mode, left/right balance, 16 height levels (+Superlow), etc
ASC is the top of the line graphical one with pictures and a blue-backlit LCD display. It is supposed to have SUPER-SUPER low mode or something like that (0psi), speed warnings and other functions. But i'm not sure if they released that outside of Japan, and being graphical means it has menus etc, which are of course in Japanese. The others all use english lettering

$125.........The harness cost alittle more then that. You have to be SURE which harness will fit your car. Dont guess I had folks do that before. I dont keep track on which fits what I just get the items they tell me they want.

Thats true, but I dont think that one has SuperLow Mode... Mind you, the lowest setting on that controller might must be low enough for you (it slams it right down on Roberts car), but on my Soarer it was still an inch or 2 above 0psi height...
I also like the fact that on that one you can make on-the-fly adjustments of height no matter what height memory you are on - the newer ones require you to enter the 'set-up mode' to change the memory settings...
Robert, i dont know if i told you before, but i translated the entire instruction manual for that controller a while back... Probably not necessary for you, but incase you want it!

Soarer??
I dont need the instructions it was easy to figure out and I have had the same one on 2 cars now still works great.
I read somehwere some one said his car was bouncy when all the way down. Mine is smooth the only time mine is bouncy is all the way up. Its freezing out side in the morning and I still raise / lower. Mine has been tested out thats for sure.

I was wondering about that--is it generally considered tough (i.e. increased risk of cracking the air shocks) on the air suspension to raise/lower when temperatures are cold?
(I sometimes wake up to -20C where I live)

Thats the chance i take cause when its parked at nite its lowered..... the only way I can get to work is raising it at zero dark hours of the morning. So far so good would i say it will be okay with yours thats the chance you have to take or leave it raised up. This is my 5th winter w/ my Majesta and NO problems so far.

My V8 Soarer (UZZ31) had air sus, and it rode like crap down low, just felt really soft and bottomed out every where. Mind you, i didnt often drive at 9-9 (lowest setting). At 5-5 it was ok, pretty smooth. On F-F (highest) the ride is like you are on a bouncing castle... its kinda funny :)
