Purchased a '98 Acura RL

what's up everyone just purchased a '98 Acura RL champagne color with 54k miles really looking forward to make it VIP worthy (will post pics soon) I'm in the Maryland area looking to get some good ideas for my car and also meet some cool people on here.

I'm a big time legend fan and am looking forward to seeing pics.

I heard these are a severe bitch to work on, lack of parts and suspension components... is this true?

Because I really like the styling of the RL.

Can be if you dont have a source but most can easily be found. Tsx suspention parts will work but you have to use the ka9 forks.

I'll give you a holla trying to get my ideas together right now, also trying to figure out what specs I need for rims want to get a 19" with at least a 3 inch lip if possible

I'm lost on this comment. the 96-04 Acura RL / Honda Legend is a KA9. I don't know why you'd need KA9 forks to make aftermarket suspension work on a KA9... I think you meant KA8 forks.

The route I went with were the K-Sport Kontrol Pro 36 way adjustable coils for a 2nd Gen Acura Legend. And with that, all you need are 2nd Gen Legend forks and everything bolts right on.

A year later and I still have had no problems with the coil-overs. Here is a pic of the same setup after the front end conversion...

For the most part the RL and the Legend share a lot of the same basis parts. Tie rods, axles, and the main parts like that are all different though of course. Otherwise picking out a suspension setup is more fun to customize what you want than a hassle.

Unless you want to go for the $2,000 JIC coils for the 3.5RL / Legend.

You're main problem though for a "lack of parts" will be more in the area of body components and styling. Headlights, fenders, hoods, and such since the parts are fairly rare and junkyards rarely have them I had to order my 99-04 grill and headlights from Japan due to the lack of "good condition" parts head in the states.

 depends most i know use tsx struts but keep their own forks

Oh I didn't realize they had so much in common with the Legend! That's not too bad then. Body parts are always a hard one to come by though. Even my G35 sucks to find parts for.

good chocie! dont let the lack of aftermarket parts hold you back. Thats the fun part of the game Gives you the chance to get creative, its all about custom kits and putting in work to fab up shit you shit need. But if your tryna go in mild with just suspension and wheels its all good!

edit * didnt see it posted above but theres a company called T-Demand the makes a complete  adjustable camber kit with control arms and everything.

yeah, body panels are hard to come by. I lucked out when i got backed into after getting the front end repaired. I went to the junk yard and found almost a full front clip to do my front end conversion. 
 
Instead of $2,000 for all the parts from Acura, I got away with the front end conversion for less than $500. I won't complain about that, but then finding a front lip and everything is a pain in the ass or too expensive. 
 
So, custom setups are normally the next step if that is what you want to do in the long run.

Any updates or plans for this.

Wow, 54k miles nd that interior condition for a 98?!?!?!?! Who was the PO, miss Daisy? Great find man...

It was owned by a middle aged woman who traveled a lot out of town so the car sat in the garage most of the time.

Very nice, from pics it looks like a 9.5 out of 10. Later.

Agreed. That front bumper alone without the fog lights and such is $1,200... I don't remember if that was with or without shipping when I checked into it, but i believe it was before shipping.

Bump... any updates on this?

Totaled my RL on 10/11/11 now I need to find another car not sure yet what I want to get still want to go the VIP route
