Can You Imagine It

I was thinking that its time for us to all come together - ie a huge VIP festival.  We can contract a trucking company and hold an event somewhere in between - east texas - bringing all our efforts as one - I understand this will take a lot of coordination and effort but this is one of my dreams before I leave the scene - can you imagine it? I think we all hold our own as individuals but to see all crews under one roof for the same cause would be epic

that's cool and i'd love to see this happen, but most of us are broke fucks hahaha (especially me)

would be awesome ill take a drive from miami for this.

I tried with Black and will continue to push to get Black 2, 3, 4 to this level.  By having it at a spot that already has a strong scene (NY/NJ), will assure that there will be at least 30 cars there apposed to having it somewhere were there isnt much of a scene and hoping people keep their word on showing.  Its everyone else's job to try to get there either with or without cars but preferably with.

I'm talking a collabertive  effort not driven by one crew or business. All coast coming together agreeing on a venue. Working toward a common goal and that's an all VIP event. Contract trucking. Get all major vendors involved. Sponsor or fundraise.  Develop objectives. Create a time line to meet those objectives and truly put our best effort in making it happen.  Every 2 year event. Rotating location so each scene can benefit from the event. Learn and grow from within.

It takes money to do, lots of planning and committed people.

My opinion is a little biased but I would like it in Texas lol.

so something like a //M fest, nico, supras invade LV event. would be very sick to have a half this board plus other at a event lol.

i cant imagine it being too big the 1st year - most of the cost would be in shipping and a venue but with the right planning and sponsors - it should offset cost

i am all for it and would  be happy to take a position in planning assuming a proper comitte was established with specific goals, timeline, duty assignment, etc. there is a large investment of time and money involved and organization is the key to success. this should be a long term project.

i am down to help OG / BoB with some of this etc etc. i too think that texas (because of central location to both coasts). dallas is probably better suited for this type of event.

wrd. dallas is accessible to all and pretty much as central as it's gonna get for a nationwide event. i'm down to volunteer.

I would agree. We have to reach out to every coast and see what kind of roles and responsibilities people are willing to commit to. Who will participate.  1st thing 1st is to lock down logistics. Movement and cost. In a 2-3 year span.  How many VIP cars are there really? This would be the time to invite all the heavy hitters from Japan.

i think regional pick up points would be the way to go. multi-vehicle transports. i think that realistically we would be lucky to have 5 cars from a given region that were dedicated enough to make the venture the first year. the easier we make it the better the turn out i say. package price including transportation, boarding, event, etc. make it more like a vacation than making cats do the work of pieceing everything together.

i'll sleep in a tent outside of the venue - f a vacation but thats just me - just as long as my car gets there in one piece

I would do Vegas...   Alot of things to do other than the meet.    So making it a 2-3day trip is more worth it for me.

distance wise texas makes sense, but i agree with blitz. logistics wise vegas makes sense.

more rooms available than anywhere else, and hopefully it will be close enough for all/most of the west coast guys to get the first one of on a good start. i think by numbers alone, the west coast has the most cars and vendors. 

the national 240sx meet went for three days like this:
fri, meet and greet at go kart place
sat, car show day
sun, track day.

what type of activities would we be looking to do. just one day straight show or multiple day like one day show, one day cruise type of thing? i think by choosing activities, that will also help decide on a location based on what we want to do.

i am more than down to help be on some type of committee to help this along.

lol all us west coasters will be down for Vegas. I'd actually seriously consider a middle of the road meet in Texas. The caravans would be epic.

dallas is not super humid. its not super dry like vegas. and its no where near as hot as vegas lol.

Should also coordinate with a professional photographer (or more than one), as well as multiple magazine coverage, maybe even video coverage, and build it into a press event. Then get the big VIP related manufacturer's to sponsor the event to help cover costs

I agree with Grant on this one.   June would be a lot better.   Not just for weather, but also anyone involved in school systems (there seems to be a lot of people in that boat based on previous threads).    Most enroll Mid-August through Mid-May.   June opens it up to a lot.  I think Dallas would be a good location as well.

I was thinking about the manufacturers overseas in Japan; Wheels, Aero, Interior, etc (Work, JP, Garson, etc) the guys that make the stuff the US Retailers sell. Also maybe Tire manufacturers (Falken, General, etc), and Sound's related manufacturers (Rockford, etc), and then even the smaller Shops based out of the USA that would want the publicity (like our Vendors here). Sounds like a long shot, but if the Japan manufacturers are smart, and see this as a big move in the VIP Community in America (aka more busine$$ opportunity) they might go for it!!!!

dallas weather isn't nearly as bad as other parts of texas, like houston, which is closer to the coast. it's more about humidity than heat.
 
nick and i were checkin out the dallas convention center. looks perfect but the price is prbably high. need to find something baller... on a budget. maybe some of the d-town cats can suggest something.

i agree with this 110%. as the owner we always wanna show the final product, but it always takes stages to get it all done. it's about the transformation and vision that builder has for their own vehicle that makes this such a great community.

By next June for sure my ride will be dialed in. This could be really fun. I have short patience on road trips any more (I start to get agitated on a trip to Vegas which is only 4 or 5 hours), but I think I could make the drive in less than 2 days, so we'd leave like Thursday morning, be in Dallas by dinner time on Friday at the latest, have all day Sat and Sun to chill, then drive home Monday morning. Something along those lines anyhow.

^ thats not the idea. this is set up to get together with the U.S.'s top VIP cars for a nationwide meet and hopefully some magazine coverage that could trickle over to Japan.

A handful? By my count at the last one, there were well over 50 VIP cars. Of course not all may be built to your standards, but they're built to their owners/drivers standards and regardless, seeing them all in one place is awesome and every year I look forward to AF's meet. A national meet is a hard thing to accomplish in such a vast country being 3k miles across, but it would be bitchin if it got done. It would actually be epic IMO.

I think what he means is there are only a handful of us vip cars that are magazine worthy to make a japanese vip car mag. I think it would be epic to get 200+ vip cars together tho. Would be interesting to see where the us vip game is at in 2 years.

If pulled together it would be nice to see but I don't think it's worth it for me to drive out. I wouldn't be looking forward to spending money to get the car out there and ALWAYS when I go to meets/shows 90% of it I care less about the cars and more about the people. Even at the AF meet I look at the cars for a hot sec. then I'm over it.

It won't be that much if you book it out in advance.  convention centers still gotta 'pay the rent' and if they have all sorts of niche tradeshows and shit then it's gotta be pretty affordable.

The topic of this thread is to imagine a US vip meet and give our thoughts.  I imagined it, didnt think it would work, and i gave my thoughts.  If you cant handle that, I'm sorry.  I already stated, similar to Oscar, that i'd more go to this meet for the people rather than the cars.  I still don't think this meet will be successfull if its held anytime in the near future.  Would you drive your car to NY for BLACK?  Cus i believe Agi did reach out to the other coasts to come to his event..

he did reach out and i did try to go, but i couldnt make it as there was a scheduling conflict :)

but actually if i posted about it, i could care a little less. but not much :)

There's no way I'd drive my car to Black, that would be almost my annual mileage in one trip. Plus, I've driven cross-country once and that was good enough for me.  I'm from the east coast anyhow, so it would be killer to be able to ride around in my car back home. But drive it there, no way.

However, I'd definitely seriously consider driving to Dallas. It's still hell far, it's much hotter than I like, and I generally hate on Texas (GW, cowboys/hillbillies, guns, etc.), but I have relatives in the Dallas/Denton area and it would be cool to see them as well.

I know prices vary but I was attempting to rent a conversion center for black 2.  With 1 year in advance they wanted 15k in NJ with half up front and the rest paid in 3 months.  In Philly, they wanted 12k with 6k up front and the rest paid in 2 months.  Both places were only extending one portion of the conversion center for that price.  I know  NY would have been like 30k or more


My guess would be like 10k for Dallas (without calling, just a wild guess).  5k up front.  Keep it outdoors.  Keep it as a meet so no money needs to be raised other than promo material.  

As for BLACK2, I am working on it.  It should be late September this year in a new location.  If you can't bring a car, fly out to speak with like minded individuals.  Stay tuned

the main issue would be financing. with limited vendors, only some of which will sponsor the event, and a limited number of particpants it would be an accomplishment just to break even. who has $10k+ to invest at 0% return?
 
the flipside is that the event needs to be something special and well organized to get people out. how many people are really going to drive across the country to sit in a park/parking lot/public venue, sleep in a motel, turn around, and go home. what happens when it rains?
 
i've priced shipping cars to houston from various places in the us. it averages out around $1k one way. plane tickets aren't much, but add that in as well as accomdations. i think we'd be lucky to get 50 vip cars, regardless of quality, in attendance so the registration fee would need to be relatively high to help recoupe the initial investment. for someone going for the full experience (the way i would do an event of this type anyway) you could easily be looking at a $3k weekend. someone going the minimal route would still be in for a nice chunk of change.
 
it is a nice vision, but the more thought put into it the less sense it makes.
 
what about regional (south, east ,west, etc.) get togethers all held simultaneously? it would be more of a symbolic unity, but i think it could still have some positive impact on the scene. media coverage could be presented as one event. maybe have video conferencing between the locations.

think about the Canadian's too we will show .. :biggthumpup:

i'm sure it can be done, but can it be done without taking a loss? i did some research when i was helping agi work on black so i have an idea of how sponsorship packages work. that's what should cover most of the cost, registration and spectator sales account for a small percentage. turning a profit isn't a huge concern since this would be an event for the people, but coming out of pocket (other than sponsorship) isn't really an option for me personally. not sure how many members (non-business) are going to put up money and then pay to enjoy themselves on top of that.
 
i'm still down to try though, either way.

I would be willing to donate Low 3 figures for the cause as long as it doesn't go towards finger tattoo's for OG or Prada Shoes for 33flavors... :slap:

Seriously... All these members here that seem to be truly into this way of cars/scene... Show so much interest in this hobbie , spend thousands of dollars on wheels/bodykits/suspension/ etc... Yet they can't spare $100 Cash C'mon SON!!! The economy isn't that bad... and i know y'all aint that cheap... :slap: 
 
There are over 17,000 members here on this forum... I think that there are at least 100 of them that will be willing to donate ($100) for the cause (no including businesses). That's 10 stack$ right there... 
 
Of course the donations will have to be EXTREMEMLY Transparent... and all expenditures will have to be documented and accounted for at the end of the day... 'cause everyone that donates for the event will want to know...

id gladly donate 100$ to this meet if solely for John and VSC.  however, its the cost of making it out there thats gonna be a grip..id drive my car there, no ship it, so thatll take some expenses out...but for how small our scene is, its stull a HUGE investment for something that wont be very big.

I would donate a $100 in a heartbeat to help out the scene

But yea, the more I read about the harder it seems to pull off.  If I see a concrete game plan and see people are actually down then I can spare $100. I spend more than that on bad habits in a day and I'm sure most on here do too.   My biggest issue is the driving. Not that fond of road trips and don't see myself forking over $1k+ to transport my car and make it to a meet even if it is of epic proprotions.

My question to Mr. Pancakes... Who even mentioned Liberty VIP anywhere in this thread??? You really went on a rampage... Are you taking any meds???  :innoutrofl2:

We are trying to brainstorm to make something positive happen as a whole.  Brining up real concerns and issues is apart of the planning stage.  The negativity can be done without.

lets just say i see both sides of the argument and move on, i really dont want this to turn into any kind of debacle. i think we are all looking for the same thing in the end. we all want to do this and have it be successful. lets be honest though, none of us have the same priorities and we need to remember that at the end of the day. can you really be mad at someone for how they spend their monies? is that not what we tell most of the rest of society when we want to buy the expensive parts for our cars and have them look "broken" or have them tell us we "ruined our luxury cars" just saying.

Id be willing to fork over $100 IF it covered my registration/parking/a small souvenir (sticker?).  I also like the idea of multiple meets being held simultaneously, I think that would lead to a larger overall showing.  and fuck a hotel, ill sleep in my car if need be, hasnt been too many years since I was doing that in college so i dont feel ashamed to think of it now lol.

All I'm saying here in this thread is that I don't see the pay off on any of this especially if we have to shell out $$$$. I understand and see the dream and I'm w/ you that it would be EPIC if worked out how I think you guys are seeing it but at the end of the day. It's about the people to me and car very little to none about the cars. This is jus my 2 cents.

I have no beef, grudge or hate w/ liberty or any crew/club/shop. I do feel though that it's on some kiddy fast and the furious car club type shit that I use to be into when I was younger and I do strongly feel that it's dividing this forum and scene into parts of you're either w/ us or against us. Driving 1/2 way across the country and back would take about $350 in gas, plus $100 (theoretical) donation, then another $200 or so for 2 nights hotel, and another $200 or so for food and drinks. Realistically you'd need about $1k saved up for this I'm thinking. It's a lot of money and I'm sure most of us, myself included, would rather put that $1k into something for their car.  Then again, it would be a mini vacation because you'd spend about 5 to 6 days in all, and hell, most vacations cost at least that much.

It's something that if it happens, and you did it, it would be one of those trips of a lifetime that  you never forget, and something you'd be unlikely to ever do again. I've taken a few epic road trips in my life; going from B-more down into Florida a few times, riding from B-more to Montreal on my ZX6-R in 1995 for the Canadian GP, those are trips I will never forget, the memories are well worth it and they're few and far between.

the flipside is that the event needs to be something special and well organized to get people out. how many people are really going to drive across the country to sit in a park/parking lot/public venue, sleep in a motel, turn around, and go home. what happens when it rains?
 
i've priced shipping cars to houston from various places in the us. it averages out around $1k one way. plane tickets aren't much, but add that in as well as accomdations. i think we'd be lucky to get 50 vip cars, regardless of quality, in attendance so the registration fee would need to be relatively high to help recoupe the initial investment. for someone going for the full experience (the way i would do an event of this type anyway) you could easily be looking at a $3k weekend. someone going the minimal route would still be in for a nice chunk of change.
 
it is a nice vision, but the more thought put into it the less sense it makes.

the idea is to divide the region somewhat evenly. think about the entire region, not just nor/socal. norcal is more central for cats coming from northern states and canada.

Not a ton frankly.  There's Fizz in Chicago I know (not sure what he has though).  There's a few wagon/van people around.  JDMJim has his xB in Chicago.  AJ has a sick xB in Colorado  Mike (Fader) has an xB in Denver.  I have my xB in Nebraska.  There's a sick one in Oklahoma as well.  We are fairly spread out and I only know of mostly non-platforms.

not to derail, but theres a reason why the VIP festival is where it is and the time they have it.  its the most ideal date.

i want this new event to be in vegas right before sema or sat night after sema. there could be potentially vendors show up, and a huge amount of cars that can easily show up not only for the event, but for sema, and vegas in general. the only problem i see is that its far for the east coast cars to get here.

Midwesterners if any thing get to pick which coast they go to.

After sema  in vegas is a really good idea not only for vendor support, but people who want more than a carshow out of all the effort get sema AND a vegas trip.

Having a bunch of events the same day isnt a great idea IMO.  Lets say an enthusiest wants to fly out to Texas to see that scene and also to Hawaii?

There is already the AF meet.  You guys should just concentrate on that IMO.  We have our BBQ's and Black out in the north east.  Maybe set something up in Texas and something in Hawaii.  All the hot spots will be covered and people can fly out or choose to ship their cars to one or the other

I think I was telling you about the casino idea.  I looked into it and the area around there isnt exactly the safest to leave your cars over night unless you leave them all in a indoor garage.  I was going to branch off with a hotel but many of the guys out here didnt like the idea for one reason or another.

never mentioned it. i think there needs to be SOMETHING besides the meet to do to make the trip worth it. i'm personally not trippin cause i don't do s**t anyway, but for the guys moving long distances the meet might not be enough.

Uhmm..that's almost 1600 miles dude.  New York is under 1000.  Dallas would be just over 600, that's drivable.  There's not many of us in the MidWest, but technically Texas is close enough.

If i went, i would have to flip tires when i got there, and get new ones when i got back haha

it may be 1600 miles from you, but for someone on the edge of kansas or nebraska it's ~700. the point was by moving from norcal to vegas you knock about 500 miles off the trip for someone moving west. by tightening the radius you bring all (ish) points within 1k miles of a meet.

The midwest should not be taken into consideration.  Its almost an even drive from where i'm at to ny or texas, +6 hours for vegas.  Driving thru the midwest is painless. Its not like driving thru a bunch of cities nonstop. I think ifsomehow the japanese could ne made aware of ours plans thats the carrot many need, if vip car was going to take a bunch of pics and do features that'd be more than just a carshow.  And I'd bet the japanese would LOVE to get involved if only thwy knew our intentions.

You guys can just follow the WekFest tour lol... after HIN, this is now pretty much the only touring car show. They hit all the cities that matter. There were a few crews like TWC that used to ship their cars all over the US to sweep the trophies at all the Hot Import Nights shows. The thing is, realistically how many VIP cars are there outside of california? A few in texas and a couple in the northeast? On any Friday night, I can show up at my local boba stop and see 10-15 VIP-style cars that aren't even posted on VSC,  yet they would be considered a "top notch" car if it were from the east coast.

Personally I wouldn't do this, but it makes sense to fly out for an event to meet people and making a vacation out of the trip.

Over the years, I have seen literally hundreds of people driving making the cross-country trek (driving or flying & shipping) for the annual Eibach Springs honda meet (largest Honda meet in the world), Nisei (the original JDM car show), and most recently the S2K Homecoming II event where there were caravans organized from every corner of the US. Even if people didn't find the drive feasible, they still flew out to enjoy the event. The attraction? Gathering 500+ enthusiasts who share the same car and hobby (S2000), meeting up at Honda's North American headquarters, and getting to meet Shigeru Uehara - father of the NSX and S2000, who flew out all the way from Japan.

The greatest part of this, is that the event was funded by each attendee! Everyone's donations paid for Tommy's catering, staff, security, the porta potties, and insurance.

Similarly, the AF meet has show cars fresh from SEMA, some of which come from Japan, as well as representatives from various VIP-related companies.

I've now driven up to San Francisco for the Wekfest event twice now which is almost 1,000 miles roundtrip. The show itself is cool and an amazing gathering of the finest cars, including many representing the VIP category, but more importantly, you get to put a face behind the screennames that you see on the forums.

then that reminds me about the nopi nats that where huge in the 90's ,it started out as a local VW show here in atlanta and eventually grew into a show that people were caravaning from all over the country to.....so anything is possible

Ehh, guess it depends on what you really want to see... I'm actually considering taking a trip to Texas (and possibly shipping a car) once the WekFest tour makes their stop there. I like a lot of cars from that state. I'm down to meet in person with like-minded individuals, but if you're going for the cars, then I think that following the show circuit makes more sense where there are trophies and other incentives for those who are in it partially for competition.

do you know when they will hit up Texas? I'm hoping to have my car presentable by than.

I was thinking... To make this trip more worth while. I say the whole event itself should be "RALLY" themed during the trip and eventually, All the regions meet up and go all out.

For example,

Norcal - Socal Rally up to vegas, party hard, then together the west region will then move on to Texas - Where let's say all the east coast regions meet up down south. Together, we'll party our asses off, but due to a 3 day weekend constraint, time will fly by quicker than ever & i doubt it will happen.

1430miles from so Cal to dallas.   Round trip 2860 miles.  Estimated driving time 47hrs round trip.  That's almost a full cycle oil change interval.  Nuts

Sema week sucks.   One of the busiest time to go to vegas.  Hotels are expensive and always sold out.  Good thing is strippers from all over fly in for the horny SEMA guys

unfortunately VIP scene is not big enough yet, who knows if it will ever be, but it is kinda cool to be more of a cult following, but I am sure we will start seeing more vip inspired sedans if wekfest becomes as large as HIN, outside of cali.
