Exhaust for UCF20

hey, Robert found me some mufflers for my car. I wanted some feedback from you guys. as a sidenote rasrx7 showed me that i had tow hooks on the side of my stock mufflers. So he advised me to find a muffler with a lower exit mount. [img][/img]

my car is a midnight blue ucf20 96' on wald coilovers and admiration tailightcovers. currently no bodykit or lip kit. so id probably have to cut the bumpers to make a flush fitment.

The other option is to chop off the tow hooks ha

I know some S13 owners do this because the tow hook is directly above where a larger aftermarket exhaust goes.

yeah, or remove the bumper cover and unbolt the tow hooks. get rid of them!

thoes are nice, I wanted to pick thoes up from Robert before. I couldnt mount the mufflers I bought flush on my '98. We had to cut the stock bumper to fit, and raise the exhuast. Right now it still scrapes the ground even afterI made the cutout in my stock bumper.

You have to take the tow hooks off, thats what I had to do with mine. There were no big difference in exhaust design
between the UCF10/11 and the UCF20/21.

thanks, now as for the set up. i was thinking. twin high flow cats to x pipe to the mufflers. no resonators. what piping diameters work the best for the 1uzfe. I don't mind have the exhaust a bit louder but with a meaner roar. 

Over at Lextreme, they said if no other engine mods is being done..ie. forced induction...
a 2.25" piping would do.

2.25" piping from the cat all the way to inlet to the mufflers? xpipe at 2.25" as well?

So basically 2.25" piping up to the single merge point that goes to 3" then splits again to dual 2.25" pipes.

The bottom line... DEFINITELY run a quality X or Y pipe. The stock system is basically two Y pipes. I suggest copying the stock system in either 2.00" or 2.25" pipe with the same size Magnaflow or equivilant style mufflers. The single center section should be 2.5" pipe if you are using the 2.00" for the duals and 2.75" pipe if you are using the 2.25" duals. 

I would use a single center muffler in the single center pipe. I would run twin 4" round type mufflers (measurement of outside of the housing, internal pipe should match the rest of the tubing) in place of the stock middle mufflers. I would run twin oval muffler in the rear. 

If you choose larger diameter pipe your system will be louder and loose power.

Most muffler shops and even many many "performance" shops do not understand proper exhaust systems. They recommend what they THINK will work or what is EASIEST for them to make money selling you. Quality X and Y pipes are not super easy to find. Search this site and Club Lexus and eBay for many options and choices.

hmm thanks alot, so where can i get this quality x-pipe. i think all the quality muffler shops should have them. no?

Currently, I have taken off the mufflers and wow it is very loud at around 2,000 rpm. The droning is killing me and the vibrations... lol. but it sounds so good. right now, it is just the two cats and the center cat pipe out, no more restrictions ::) waiting for full exhaust soon. I think the car is at it's fastest currently though. alittle bit too loud for daily driving IMO.
