Blanco's Y50 M45...

What's going on everybody some of u guys already know me but most dont, so my name's Blanco, I've been lurking this website since forever, gathering ideas & appreciating the rides. All you guys sure know how to put a whip together nicely and I'm looking forward to the love, hate, criticism &/or any tips you may have for me. 
 
If you didnt read my noob intro I'm from NYC but originally from the Dominican Republic and I live in Killeen, TX now. 
 
This is my 2006 M45 that I've had for a little over a year now, hope you like it...

Thanks Gmo... body kit... air suspension & some interior mods but that's for the future... I'll update soon wit some pix this aint the way it's sittin right now, I just wanted y'all to see from the very beginning...

Right after I got my M I knew I needed wheels, & didnt know much about offsets at the time, but I knew that I needed better wheels that what I was used to buy... everytime I had a set of cheap wheels & I'd go home they'd get bent in the belt pkwy or at the deegan... I had one set of ASA wheels that I bought visiting my moms in Miami, headed north after 3 days down there & the very 2nd day I was home me & my cuz shaday was heading to staten island from paterson nj, I hit a bad one, we stopped, and a wheel that I hadnt even owned for a week was bent like an 8... so I decided to step up a little and got a set of Venti VP 106 shoes... I love these joints...

The wheels are 20x8.5" +38... I know, eeeewwww, but I got fix for that. Next thing I got was an Stillen exhaust, not too loud & no humming, just perfect...

By this time the car was already dropped on Eibach springs...

I love everything about the M except for the aluminum trim mine came with, so I swapped my alum with another cat and imo it just looks so much better with wood now... I might paint it black soon tho.

mmmmmm, i love m45's cant wait to see where this is going!

[SIZE=3][FONT=Calibri][COLOR=lemonchiffon]...but the thing that I disliked the most about my M was the front bumper, to this date I still think that it might be the ugliest bumper on a lux car ever and I didnt want to spend the money on a body kit yet especially when I could do this mod for about $500... 08+ Non sport bumper cover.[/COLOR][/FONT][/SIZE]

IMO oem wheels looks better.

I never said I disliked my wheels... I love them... I dislike the offsets. Thanks for your opinion as well.

Lmao... great point, I just didnt know much about how offsets "[I]should[/I]" sit at the time so I just went with the wheel I liked at the proper recommended offset range, but yah, I love these... thanks for the input once again.

[SIZE=3][FONT=Calibri][COLOR=white]I changed the interior lightning from yellowish OEM to LEDs... big difference, the PO gave me a headstart on the exterior by swapping the license plate lights & reverse lights to LEDs. I wasnt aware they werent OEM until I read ppl on another forum trying to get LEDs for those spots... [/COLOR][/FONT][/SIZE]

I figured that my wheels wouldnt let the bbk stand out so why get it to begin with? Plus somebody was giving out good reviews on a full set of rotors & pads from ebay for cheap, so I went for them and they havent dissapoint so far...[/COLOR][/FONT][/SIZE]

The quality of the DVD headrests is real good and it came with a bunch of goodies in the package but they have a big flaw imo: they dont tilt and it's uncomfortable to drive. So I ordered some neck cushions to see if they help... if they dont help I might consider taking these off.

How does the stereo sound in that car? Speakers in the dash board, seats, back doors, rear deck, AND a sub? WTF?

Factory system Sounds real good... Lacks just a little bass... But that's a easy fix.

Thanks Kingpin, looked at both the body kit & wheels & didnt like neither, good looking out tho... I guess that by now u prolly thinkin Im the oddball, lmao...

From the moment I saw these tails I knew I was gon get them. I didnt know how much they cost but I figured they'd be around $300-$400, lmao... Once I found out the real price I had to put them in the back burner and wait & see if somebody was selling them used or something... Never found them used but since I waited for over 6 months to get them I think I found the best possible price on these brand new from an Infiniti dealer selling them on ebay. I had never seen them in person and at first I thought I might be disappointed when I open the box but nah, they're even nicer when you see them face to face...

Not really feeling those tails man. Who makes them?

I'd be wary of eBay slotted+drilled rotors.
I know bit late now, but just saying..
Slotted = usually good.
Drilled = usually just for looks.
Unfortunately, some of the drills are done bad, and you slam some brake pressure onto them in an emergency and they'll rip to shreds on you. (ie. crack through the drill points). If you rip thru a rotor you're gonna be in trouble.
If they're from a good racing-type brake manufacturer, you'll probably be OK, but if it's some china copy, just be warned.

This forums seems kind of strict. So many critics, and not enough praise. I try to find the good things in people and their cars and not heckle them with elitist BS. I like your car, I might not have modded it the same as you, but, its still clean and doesnt look ebayish at all IMO. Well keep up the good work and try not to get too discouraged, good luck with it.

All they saying is they not really feeling certain aspects of your ride at this point. That can change though. Things grow on people, and everyone is different.  At least they're interested in watching the progress. No-one is bagging you out. "eBay builds" are always epic... some result in ruin with the owner wishing they'd spent big or not at all. Others, though, end awesome and everyone is envious. Either way, it's interesting for everyone on here reading about it.

My advice: Chill out a bit, take what people say with a grain of salt. Don't get defensive and start ranting.. everyone is different, everyone likes things slightly different, and all are welcome here. The point of customizing your car is for it to be custom. The last thing people want is to see you copy someone else's build part-for-part. So keep it up, and we look forward to seeing the updates.

well this is a VIP style forum, so....

Mi pana... Build it how you want it... You should know the main concept of what vip is by now.... if people like it then fine, if they don't that's fine too... As long as you're happy with it at the end, that's what matters the most...

Like I said, I dont mind [I][COLOR=red]constructive[/COLOR][/I] criticism... and not one person have said anything smart with their critique, well, just one person that mentioned the billtet grille, and he just said he aint like it, that's about it. I just dont appreciate ppl talkin smack without even knowing what they talkin about, what's ebay about my tail lights? they're legit OEM JDM tails, that the infiniti dealer happen to carry at a cheaper price than my dealer's... that's stoopid imo but it's all good, bet he aint know that, & I bet whoever said that buy stuff at ebay too, lol, nonetheless, thanks for your response & advice.

Why do people who are "new" to VIP always have the same attitude? Obviously the people here who have join dates 3+ years ago have been into it for awhile, maybe instead of getting offended so easily look past the ball busting and figure out why they are doing so. 

Yes, your wheel choice is pretty bad for a traditional VIP style, other than that I don't have anything bad to say about that car, it's mostly stock. Not a huge fan of springs but whatever.

Even if you "love" your wheels, you can understand why most people here don't right? Always been a lot of debate over wheel choice in US VIP culture. If you know VIP style, you know what is and isn't. Just kick back and learn some new things, after all you did join a VIP Style forum for a reason other than posting pictures of your car I assume? 

And one more thing, just because YOU like or love something doesn't make it VIP Style. If you like it then that's great, and really all that matters. Just don't be offended if what you like doesn't fit into what the style is.

Before the "OMG LOL" & the "ebay build" several people said they dislike whatever about my car, and I was proper & respectful to them, you included. I was in Army for 9 years so I know how to come into a building properly, and I know u got to fly low, especially with the old timers, however, if somebody disrespects you, all bets are off... we (you & I) had a misunderstanding that i had to clear up and I fully respect the way you, kingpin or anybody feel about my wheels, and yes. I know they're not that traditional VIP wheels but I cant change the fact that I like that style of wheels, I really do love them, so what can I do about that? nada. That's how I feel period, & I could go buy another set of more traditional wheels but guess what? That's right, I dont like them, plus Ive seen some people on here use non "traditional" wheels for their whips but it's all good.

Yeah, I would've stuck by my OEM grille over this one but it didnt fit with the 08+ bumper so I had to get a different one and I really dislike most of the aftermarket grilles, so I'm prolly just gon do an 08+ OEM grille in the future, thanks.

Thanks for the input. I admit I'm not great at taking pix but I feel that my tails are beautiful the way they are, I cant change the way I feel about that, maybe I need to take better pix or something, but I guess with these it's an either you love them or hate them type deal, u kno? Anyways, they're staying on as is, whether cats like'em or not, it's def non negotiable, I love the look & I believe that they flow better with my car color than the red ones since my car is light green/silverish.  About the front end, I dont exactly know what you mean since I already changed the front bumper cover, you can see the diff in the first pix, but the grille, yah, Im considering replacing that with an OEM one. About comments, I'm open to suggestions man, I was just saying that the way people come across is foul sometimes but dead that.

So on my car color red tail lights flow better than these?

 Personally, to me, the new tails flow TOO well, theyre damn near the same color of your car, if those tails were on a white or black car theyde be ILL, but it just contrasts with your silver paint. Thats why I suggested painting them black, cause the style of them is sick.

I agree, painting them black would tie in to the tint and wheels alittle better, rather than blend in with the rest of the car so well, making them harder to appreciate.  AS IS, id have to say i like the red better but with the right wheels and drop... it has alot of potential.

You gotta understand why people might associate those tails with typical ebay mods... how many civics have you seen with those all clear chrome altezza monstrosities?  Just saying they are similar, yours are obviously of a higher caliber.  Good luck man cant wait to see stage 1 completed.

Thanks for your input, totally agree about the grill, and I knew the tails would cause a little stir, however, if people look at them closely (especially on the close up pic) they're totally a type of different thing, also I def need to get better at taking pictures, maybe people can appreciate some things more, but once again thanks for the input.

Ok, so I had the opportunity to buy an almost brand new set of D2 coilovers from a forum member who had them in for literally a little over a month and upgraded to air (Thanks for the deal Chris.) I knew I couldnt pass up the deal for the great price on almost brand new coilovers so I pull the trigger within the hour of him posting them up for sale...

They handle like a dream but everytime I hit the slightest bump the uca hits the fender and it sounds as if the car is gonna fall apart, lol. I want to upgrade to air within a couple of months because I really would like to be able to adjust the height from the inside of the car without having to be wrenching away. I still have to do some research on air but based on what most people on air say, I know I'm going to love it even more than the coils.

here comes a blanket statement:

coils will be better for you if you actually want to ride low -- most air setups aren't stiff enough at a low ride height to make driving slammed workable.

obviously, the height at which you want to ride is a personal choice. if riding low is something you want to do, perhaps something like an air cup kit would be a better choice -- you get the stiffness of coilovers (and the ability to drive slammed) while still having the ability to raise the car when you come across obstacles.

if you don't think you'll be riding slammed, then disregard all of what i just posted lulz

well, the other problem with running bags super low (let's say you have air runner OTGs or a UAS + coilover setup) is that you don't get much lift. then, what's the point of running bags in the first place? haha

Philly is on bags.  Almost lays bumpers and can get about 3" of gap over the tires.  Pretty sure he's on KYB and UAS.  

Even with my setup I get enough lift to clear a huge lip to get into my driveway.   Maybe it's a model specific issue.

Well guys, first off if y'all didnt catch it I apologized to speedaddict about the name calling, that was very unprofessional & uncalled for from my part regardless of his comment. However, I still stand by my opinion that constructive critiques are obviously far better than a wiseass remark. Now here's how my car's stance as of right now on D2 Coilovers, it may not seem low on pix but I took to more pix showing my resonators, cat & flex pipes less than 2 inches off the ground & scraped up, also when I turn the tires push up on the fenders in order to clear. As usual I welcome all comments & critiques, thanks ahead of time.

Nice car! I like how its coming along so fast. Im not feeling the front grill too much, but hopefully u can find a nice grill that flows better with the car in the future.  Just take ur time and do it right the first time so u wont be wasting ur $ twice.

It's pretty easy to raise the exhaust. Just have to find a reliable shop. Most of them look at you weird when you tell them to make the exuast 1/2" off the floor board... lol

constructive criticism:
 
some of the mods on you have chosen are causing the overall look of the car to be cheapened. when i look at it, as it sits, it seems more like something i'd see on the maxima forums than vsc.
 
the wheels you chose have the look of cheap wheels (generic style, convex spokes) even though they are actually forged multipiece. not saying that you have to buy a typical "vip wheel" (whatever that is) but i can't dig these.
 
the grill i can't even really put a good spin on, it's just totally out of place. i've never really seen a nice grill for the y50, but a cornerstone of my personal style is that if you're not improving something just leave it alone. at least you showed some restraint.
 
i thought the same as thomas when i first saw the tails (ebay). admittedly, and embarrasingly, the fact that they are oem makes a difference. after taking a second look i think that they could work well if the rest of the car was cleaner. regardless of the actual love or hate styling they flow very well, whereas most of the other mods stand out.
 
the bumper is a great upgrade. very nice looking. looks like the color match is a little off, but i'm aware that different materials show light differently so that may just be a camera thing. i think with some custom fogs that bumper could be as good or better than a lot of kits.
 
the wood upgrade is nice. i think the m has some of the best wood (no homo) on the market. black wood in oem style would be even better.
 
all in all, i think you need to expand your horizons. it seems like you are generally buying what is readily available and that's what's giving it the "ebay"  look. figure out what's out there and make calculated buys vs. just running down the checklist and buying something that fits the position.
 
as far as the suspension talk, understand that there are a bunch of ways to accomplish the same general thing. that being said,  suspension isn't just about ride/lift/dump height. suspension is a function, not a style. just because car "a" and car "b" roll at a similar height does not mean they do it equally well. figure out your personal goals (adjustability, drivability, comfort, performance, etc.) and make your own educated decision from there. everyone thinks their way is the best but they can't all be right.

^OG, Totally understand the Maxima comment & I'm working on that, obviously the billet grille is something that undeniably looks better on a truck (actually I had a similar grille on my wife's navigator & thought it would look good on my M,) however, I wanted to point out that since I upgraded the bumper to an 08+ my OEM grille -which is no where near as nice as 08+ M grilles- wouldnt've fit on my new app, so basically 06/07 grilles are different than 08+ grilles, so I had to get something, unfortunately I chose this over an 08+ OEM grille despite they're about the same price, like I mentioned, Ima try to twist this billet one before I give up on it.
 
Like Chris said, taste is a very subjective thing and I happen to like this style very much and as you pointed out they're def not generic cast stuff tho obviously they're not on a work wheel level. 
 
I truly appreciate your input along with the suspension & all the other tips OG, def got your point. I'm about to buy another set of wheels (used) that I've been hunting for a minute and I dont know if they're are VIP approved or not, if they are then I'm happy for the VIP old timers & hard liners... if not, oh well, it's my car... God willing they'll be on within the next 2 months. Body work's must, wish me luck.

if the new wheels are what i think they are then they'll look great if you can execute properly. super aggressive.

^They are OG, any special tips on what to tell the body shop? He's a buddy of mine and we had already spoken about this in the past because I was thinking about getting the brand new SSRs celestak was selling but I wasnt completely sold on the look but the offsets were similar based on width... any input on the body work is appreciated from anybody as well, basically I'm getting some super aggresive wheels that the car will need body work on. They'd  stick out about 3-4 inches in the front & the rear...

depends on what kind of look you're going for. me, I prefer an extended and radiused oem look, with the factory drop edge. here are some people with the more "duckbill" style flare on heir bodywork, where the lip of the fender curves outward to meet the wheel. it's really personal preference and a lot of it is really up to how good the individual working on your car.

best advice is to check out smitty's and kalvin maui's body work. the key to cars with this type of arch is to keep the factory arch line. also, the farther outward you go the farther up and across the panel you need to go.
 
my theoretical method would be to cut along the original arch line all the way to the lower edges. the inner fender will also need to be cut (similar to a mini tub, except to the outside) to give you inner clearance. then the arch can be moved to the lip of the wheel and the gap filled with sheet metal. the higher and wider on the quarter you go the more subtle it will be. then you'll want to make a transition in the rear doors that matches the new slope of the quarters. last will be working the sideskirts and rear bumper. 3-4" is a substantial amount, it will definitely be some work.

^ yes whatever you do, make sure it flows! hate it when I see beautiful lines and they end abruptly at the door.

that is some very clean work. you wouldn't even notice it unless someone mentioned it or it was side by side with a stock m. v.2 of the car is pretty darn nice.

I bought these barrels to make my rear wheels 20x9.5 and I think the offsets were supposed to be at around +29... 
 
So the rebarreling is not going to happen anymore and I was really looking forward to do it but I've been in love with Work Varianza T1Ss with huge lips for a good minute & found them, here in Texas too... I actually had a chance to buy Donny Pisto's T1Ss a while back but we didnt agree on price so that fell through. I hope you like them, if not, oh well... specs 20x10.5 (4) -45 rears & -29 fronts...

Awesome pick on the wheels. You will realize how much the wheels make a difference in executing a vip build. Once you get them fitted, i would lose the billet grills and put the stock grill back on. Maybe do a different tone paint on it.
The key thing is to keep it subtle as it is a luxury car. Make sure every mod you make has a well thought out decision behind it for a VIP build is not as easy as going to autozone and purchasing off the shelf apc parts (in reference to how honda builds of the past were made)

Stick around, there is a wealth of knowledge to do stuff right on vsc.

Thanks for the tips. Be advised my OEM grill wouldnt fit on my car anymore because I have the 08+ bumper, that's the reason I didnt go with it originally.  I was actually thinking of painting the billet grille the same color of the car... and see how it looked...

This aint even the first time... this is the 2nd time this has happened to me, I just get in the car and look towards the back seat & noticed the "wood" fell off the actual plastic trim... Nissan really should've done a better job with the trim.  The "wood" is actually like a very thin plastic overlay with a firmness I can only describe as 10 pages of printer paper glued together... and it isnt even that hot in TX. Definitely should've kept my alum trim & a paint it... so I was thinking about taking off the trims off the car, removing the "wood" film/overlay from the actual trims & painting them black...

Any test fit pics blanco?  Curious to see how much work will be needed.  Is your body guy going to go into the door?  You may need it for it to flow well with that aggressive of a wheel.

Maybe its jus me but i Dnt think its alot of work, 1. the car is still on a jack causing it to look that way, 2. get some negative camber in ur life =), 3. run smaller tires, u'll be surprise that u mite not even have to do Bodywork, jus alot of fender work (rolling n pulling) u wont tuck but u'll def. be flush.....

On my case I actually wanted to do the wide body, I dont know if u had seen Celestak's Tanabe's with huge lips? Well, I was contemplating buying those to do the widebody before he took them off sale, and those were a little more conservative offset wise, but wider... so I could've had problems on the back side & they're not BBK friendly I dont think, but they would've sit about an 1" less from where these sit, so that might've been better... At this point I'm just hoping for a great turnout for this. If it doesnt happen Ill trade or sell the works, u kno?

Those wheels could fit with negative camber easy but it's more about the owner's taste if he doesn't like heavy camber then bodywork it is!  To each his own!  But don't say that it can only be done with bodywork, say that this is the way you would do it, but don't say that it's the only way that it can be done.  I expect better from this forum, but a lot Guys here continue to disappoint lol!

P.S. 
Every vehicle's backspacing/wheel well space tends to differ so if you haven't dealt with a particular chassis you have no clue what it can or cannot fit with or without bodywork truth be told.

Sure, if you like the oni camber look, it can be done.  Didn't see that as an option honestly.  My bad.

well f**k it, if we're not talking about what looks good just raise the coils for clearance and ride mexi-poke today. no work needed.

haha -20 camber isnt practical for everyone..this looks similar to the amount of poke my wheels had, and i woulda needed about -20 to fit em with camber alone.

I asked about this several posts ago but it was overshadowed by the wheels... I was thinking of painting the wood trim inside the car black, especially since it's a POS that's falling apart... I have another color in mind that once again might tick some ppl off but hey...

So I was thinking either black or a textured krylon spray paint called "make it stone" with a reddish look to it... then once painted and dry to add a coat of triple thick clear glaze from Krylon that makes the finish high gloss... any input on this?

so the issue is that the pieces won't stay on the panels? that could be remedied i'm sure.
 
please do not do the krylon, that is a horrible idea and won't come out anythiong like you must have pictured.

the issue with the door panel trim pieces is that the water and humidity from inside the door make them deform a little... it then messes up the fitment... 
 
I'm with OG... please don't do the paint thing... have them custom dipped some where... they will look horrible just painted... will mess up the interior completely in my opinion.

@OG & Leche... I'ma give it shot & see how it turns out, I'm not completely sold on this either & I'm def not hard headed about this... but I believe it's at least worth a shot for the money, plus it's not like it's a permanent thing, I could easily do black or silver for a safe bet...

Not a fan of the paint idea at all.  Reminds me of all the ricer painted interior accents in Hondas.  Please don't.  :)   A good epoxy or panel bond will do the trick of getting it to stick back on there.  Apply the glue and clamp them for a couple hours.  Better than new.

I promise that if it looks bad I'm taking it off gents, remember paint is not a permanent thing... I just ask that if it turns out great or at least better than what you expected, that you acknowledge it...

Sold my wheels... took them off & shipped them out so now I'm riding on a set of 18" OEM wheels until I put the Works in... tires on these are showing the metal linings on some spots and they look fugly... oh well, also took off the billet grille off the bumper for good...

I bought an M35/45 sport rear bumper for my car from a seller on ebay about a week ago and they just refunded me my money literally about a half an hour ago, WTF? I was hoping to hv it painted nd done with the body work... a little hiccup on the road... but whatever, the price was killer tho.

You should get an 08 sport grille :)

x2 Trim would look great with colormatched automotive paint/clear if your not redoing with a new woodgrain coating

If it doesnt work out, what's the big deal? I'm out of literally a couple of bucks nd my own time... instead of hundreds on wood dipping and not being able to easily & cheaply reverse it... bet some ppl was stuck with their dipped wood and not 100% satisfied... food for thought.
 
Trust me that if I like it once it's on, it will stay on... regardless of what anybody thinks... the saddest thing imo is that ppl who said it looked horrible or whatever probably wont acknowledge if it indeed looks good in the end...  it is what it is, no hard feelings...

Blanco I'm confident that you'll know if it still doesn't look good after the install and you'll do what's appropriate. You're so so on it now so it's goin to have to kickass when installed for you to leave it in. Later.

the issue isn't originality, it's process.
 
you are not going to get a smooth, glossy finish over textured paint. ever. another issue is that rattle can clear does not have a hardener so it does not set up like automotive grade clear. therefore, it will not be as durable. uv protection is suspect  as well. finally, adhesion promoter should have also been used to ensure a proper bond to plastic as well as comprehensive prep work. i'm sure there's more things to nit pick...
 
regardless of aesthetic preferances, this was poorly executed. even if it looks good to you, or anybody, it was not done correctly.

Why are you saying that it was poorly executed when I thoroughly sanded every piece, primed every piece then painted? I'm not a professional painter by any means but I did research nd talked to the guys at Sherwin Williams as well... and considering my experience with this stuff, I did pretty good... I let the paint dry overnight and I'm even letting that clear glaze stuff dry for 24 hours as recommended, probably overkill but hey...
 
I wasnt looking for smooth finish... I was looking for a textured finish, hence buying the type of paint I bought... and it does look glossy btw... that I should've gone with non textured paint and possibly a different color is a different matter. 
 
So that the color's booty, I migh agree once I see it on the car but that I didnt do it right, it's a different thing.

well if you didn't want it smooth, then scratch that part.
 
let's start with the sanding. looks like you used a fine scotch brite, no problem there.
 
from there you used what appears to be a high build primer surfacer. first issue is adhesion. plastic generally requires adhesion promoter or plastic specific products to really bite. you may have got lucky and got some adjesion because of the fine scratches but i doubt it's very good. if you want to test it out place a piece of tape on it and yank it off. i wouldn't recommend this unless you plan on scrapping it. a high build primer was also unnecessary because the sand scratches were very fine and the paint was textured anyway.
 
then you used some paint over primer. no big deal there, however it was obviously a "do something" move. [I]imo[/I], you have not improved over a stock interior and with some other questionable mods you have actually taken a step backwards in my eyes (my opinion obviously). i think your time/money/energy would have been better spent restoring the oem finish.
 
then you put on some kind of hyped up clear coat ("glaze").  it is a single component clear that sets up via evaporation vs. 2 component clears which have a chemical reaction that produces a much mkore durable finish. very important when it comes to interior pieces, which get touched very frequently and thoughtlessly.
 
disassembly could have been more thorough. stuff like removing the cover off the ash tray and removing the chrome trim instead of painting over it. to me thats like painting over moldings on the exterior. just looks cheap and rushed.
 
execution isn't about what you did, it's about how you did it.

Questionable mods? I think that's so subjective...  I mean... not liking my previous set of legit forged multi piece wheels is a questionable mod? Or not liking my JDM OEM tails? I had been looking for T1Ss for a long time... some guys on here can attest to that... and that was the only set of wheels that was going to replace my Ventis, briefly considered another set but that's a different story...  nonetheless... thanks for ur input nd btw the chrome piece on top of the ashtray is taped up.

all i'm saying is 1) you have some [I]questionable[/I] mods (grill, venti wheels, interior, and maybe even tails) that do not give off the feel of a vip car, at least as configured. not saying they're right or wrong, do you, but when this many people say no it at least qualifies as questionable. and 2) the process in which you painted the pieces was not correct and/or logical.

Thanx, slo... nd yeah, it does look better than what I thought after the trim was dry as well, however, it's not cutting it for me. It's actually lighter than what it seems on the pix, it's more like a pinkish color than copper really. I do like the metallic look of it, nd when the sun hits it, it looks pretty cool. I also thought something similar to what u were thinking... charcoal/graphite/silver... would've looked really good especially with the metallic thingy going on, so I'm thinking about re doing it in silver... definitely coming off tho.

Do a few more thin coats of clear wet sand and put some polish on it dude. Keep in mind pretty much all of the people that are down talking your parts have never touched shit and would rather pay a shop a lot of money to do a very simple job. Makes me wonder if half the people on this site even know that the VIPCAR mags from japan have rather large DIY write ups. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! :biggthumpup:

Yeah i dont think some people actually look through the vip style mags. I have seen people in that magazine more than once going to town with a spray can. When it comes down to it paint is paint. The only difference in a gun and a can is just that, one is in a can. I painted my engine bay the metallic black and went over it with a weird clear coat. Check it out when you get a chance.

Hell no, no one should expect or hope for a top quality exterior paint job with spray cans, but there are def. situations were spray can paint is acceptable like interiors. Remember, auto paint shops do carry some automobile quality primers/surfacers and paint in spray cans of good quality. Later.

Well, I do hv to say that I bought some good quality spray paint nd I'm sure VJ is referring to good quality spray paint as well, I mean... if u buy $1 cans from walmart, you get a chevy aveo, if you buy some expensive cans from krylon or another good brand, u get a bmw 3 series... nd if u look up "alsa corp" they have automotive grade exotic paints in cans... ur maybach, lol... btw they also sell a wood dipping machine for what most people pay to hv their wood dipped... food for thought... but anyways, I kinda agree with what he's saying... but ultimately u do get what u pay for. I'd rather push the maybach...

yeah that paint from walmart may as well be spray adhesive. it just gets sticky when it dries. not sure if you messed with any of the paint from alsa corp but its really bad ass. Krylon is only as good as you treat it as long as you spray it even, prep your surface and wet sand ti before you clear it it comes out nice.

wrd. theres no reason for you to let it under your skin. can you not understand why people thought they were ebay/euro/altezza/whatever/depo? clear + red brake/blinker + led ring. thats the traditional formula for aftermarket tails.

I'm definitely changing my rear bumper eventually to the 08+ sport one.

Lol I would paint the inside. Just to make it that much more unique. I am one of those well it's factory japan, but aftermarket here means it's still factory. And needs some flavor. Taking something most people be lucky just to have and then doing something to it makes it baller lol. Just my opinion

...so they can get painted along with the fenders nd stuff, they should b here tuesday and I had also ordered an 08+ rear sport bumper, unfortunately that fell through as the seller told me they had somehow damaged it. I had gotten it at great price nd it was already primed. Seller gave me a better deal because he was based out of Houston so his shipping wasnt gon b drastic. 
 
Basically my rear bumper has to go one way or another, either get the 08+ sport rear or get yet another aero kit for a Y50 M, lol... The 08 bumper option hasnt been done before (at least it hasnt been documented) nd there's even some skepticism to it fitting my M on the non vip forum, but I love how those bumpers look so Ima give it a shot, plus it's good for R&D so other M owners can do it in the future... but cant find any good deals lately, just some overpriced ones at almost OEM cost.

If the shop is good then no need to wait for all the parts to get painted. Painter and color matcher should have it down if they're any good. Later.

I didnt mean it because of the paint matching Slo, I mean it as in maybe I should just wait to hv all the parts together nd get all the stuff done at once, instead of having the car over on various trips. Especially if they have to modify the rear bumper (which is very likely) for the blending in...

Nah please don't use tape. I've got mine on with tape/glue right now and it sticks well but the sides need to be pressed down every once in a while. If I could turn back time (not a Cher reference...) I would have gone the drill route.

I have oem drill and tape to hold the corners down.

^How do u drilled this on the car??? I'm letting the shop do the install since it has to get painted anyways... I had one on a BMW that was held by double sided tape nd it flew away on the track, lol... I was pissed but :shrug:

Car's in for bodywork... and paint... Glacier Frost Mica from Lexus... shop says 2 weeks, but a lot of people are telling me to expect the car to be done in twice the time the shop tells you, so I'll be patient for a month... lol... Interior trim's getting painted metallic black & the spoiler & new mirror covers are getting painted nd put on as well. I just want it to come out nice regardless of time it stays at the shop. It already feels weird knowing I wont have my main car for a month, but I guess it's part of this culture. BTW I got stuck for the first time on my car today trying to drive onto the shop's driveway from the main ave, lol... they were telling me the rear tires were spinning... I got out of there and made it onto the driveway sideways like a pro, by rocking the car back & forth, lesson learned, lol.

Thanx Slo, nd yes the white wit the pearl for a silverish outcome... I considered a custom red but imo it was going to be too loud, and yeah, like I said initially when I painted the trim "textured copper" it was just an experiment with the black being the back up plan if it didnt work out... I still cant believe we hv 2 pages beefing about the trim... here's pix of GFM compared to regular white...

My new grille came in today... not... they sent the wrong one, lol... This is a "midnight" version (blacked out) but I just wanted the regular OEM sport grille... it's ok tho, I have nothing but time... :shrug: This one looks alright but I just want the regular one.

That switch panel was made for the ashtray in the M. :)   I say lose one cupholder for the gauges.

Switches will go in the ashtray... I always thought that was pretty cool plus I can just close it & hide it... Display will be mounted on one of those cell phone holders... nah, j/k... I want it out of sight as well but easily accesible so center console will do, next to the DVD player in my car.

Why fuck with all those lines and wires when you can just go digital and save your self the stress .. you are already doing the entire car why not do it proper .

So I want to do the diamond stitched interior on my seats at the exact same spots these are done at (to keep the infiniti logo & embroidery above the seams.) The differences will be that...
 
-I'll also do all the headrests in white -front & back- and possibly embroider something on the front ones... maybe "Blanco" I dont really know yet... 
 
-This M's interior is wheat unlike mine that it's black... so my armrest in the front (that's black) will be redone with the same fabric used on the seats but without diamonds... 
 
-My door leather inserts will also be white without diamond stitches...
 
-Finally the thread use to do the diamonds will be gold, yellow, or what have you... u get the point...

Thanks Smitty, Im loving the new trim color and I cant really get it to show it's metallicness on pictures... it looks crazy nice in person. Also there's some bubbles in some spots that I overlooked the first day, it's kinda minor but for the $$$ I'm paying I cant let it slide.... So it needs to get fixed before it gets put back on, so I wont be able to take pics installed until at least tuesday...

@Vroom, well, I'll b the guinea pig, lol... but seriously, I think they should still work, obviously not 100% sure but I'm making my assumption on that no air actually comes out of our seats... if they lay a piece o fabric over the perforated parts, it will barely work for obvious reasons, however, if they replace the fabric entirely then I could still see it working properly. If the perforated parts do serve a breathing purpose I could see the filters getting clogged up a lot more often than normal... maybe [COLOR=red][B][I][U]str45[/U][/I][/B][/COLOR] or another infiniti tech can chime in on this...

I know of the S class Mercedes it can have cool or heat with out the perforated leather mine had perforated but I seen others who don't

ya just wondering cause im doing the same next month just with black inserts and that was something i was wondering.
Because when i use cool seats air comes out to cool it but i was thinking if you close it, it would still be cool but what about condensation build up? Mold? Wet Foam?...
I think i am gonna put the holes in my inserts just to be safe

trim looks pretty good. cooled seats should be perforated.

@Rob, I'll try to get some more info from someone with first hand experience on the issue, so I'ma start a thread & see if I get any feedback. There's def a possibility that it could develop problems (without perforated inserts) by the seats not being able to breathe leading filters to get clogged up sooner & possibly lead to mold or other related problems like you mentioned, so perforating should be on the safe side for sure.

@Rob... Thanks man, about the dust... yeah, lol... but it's not as bad as you think, it's just like with black furniture picking "more" dust than brown... but the worse thing is fingerprints. I carry a microfiber cloth in my center console since this morning, lol... it's really beautiful tho man, way nicer than the wood. 
 
@Slo... Thanks bro, it looks even better than I thought it would, I b feeling like I'm in a different car... it looks way more upscale than the wood & obviously than my copper tryout. About the exterior... *sighs... the shop told me to bring it back in a month... cuz they were too busy with some insurance claims nd wanted to take their time with my car nd not rush it... so I got a quote to redo my interior with diamond stitches nd all that good stuff, so around the 8th of next month it's going to an upholstery shop for about a week they told me. 
 
Plan is to redo the headliner in black suede nd like I said the seats & door inserts. I'm having a hard time picking a color for the seats & door inserts now, cuz the trim looks so good & I want to keep building the interior around it... I was set on a color but it was gonna be too safe & predictable imo, and I know I cant play with this like I could with the trim but I'll figure it out... it'll b different & tastefully done. 
 
Maybe I'll ask for some feedback on this thread or the interior thread, we'll see... I got a good idea tho.

Well, I've no wheels that'd fit without bodywork nd these OEM 18s are ugly as hell, I feel uncomfortable driving like this, I was even thinking about buyn another set of wheels for the meantime, lol... shop said the paint would only be a couple of days, what takes time is the bodywork but my paint is almost mint but it's a boring color. Ive done the same mistake twice... buying a car only because it was such a good $ deal instead of shopping around... I wanted either stone interior or bourbon & a more solid color if you will, tho the black interior has its ups...plus I really want to get it widebodied & looking monstriferous, lol.
 
Im getting the seats done in a couple of days nd like I told you I'm undecided about what color to go for the inserts, I was dead set on white but now I'm thinking red or brown... I'll figure it out. Thanks for the feedback man.

Ok, so just to let everybody know I'm no longer painting my car GFM... I was just thinking that if I did that I'd be resembling a lot of other dude's rides & it's just too predictable. Plus I dont see a lot of Diamond Graphite Ms modded which is a plus (I originally thought it was a downside) & finally the paint on my car is almost flawless... bodywork will still get done but Im pushing back to winter time.
 
Wheels will be the same (Work T1S -27 F, -45 R )unless I sell them from here to there, in that case I will b going with these...

Reason for the possible wheel change is just tryng to be different, wheels are almost same specs.

Trust me... Im desperate riding with these ugly ass OEM 18s...

Those SSRs are sick. I've showed those to a tonnes of guys to try and make them man up. But you saying they are almost the same specs as your T1s is silly..... The T1s are pretty much and inch more aggressive.

Get spacers for the g wheels and you'll be set for a bit!

...they're not "a lot" more aggressive than the SSRs... they'd sit 10mm further out than the SSRs in the front but the SSRs fronts are mid disk so I have to run a [B]thin[/B] [B]spacer[/B] to run a BBK anyways. And the rears you're prolly mentally miscalculating because these are 10.5" et -47, or whatever it is, and while the SSRs are et 0 they're 2" wider than these in the rear... they'd sit 19mm more towards the inside... that's less than an inch & when they're already sticking out 3-4 inches... it's still in essence a widebody & more than likely just about the same amount of bodywork... :shrug:

Does the Y50 use similar offsets as the G sedan? or do you have more clearance? I know the stock offset is roughly the same.

12.5 +/-0 is 23mm more aggressive than 10.5 -47.

12mm for ever inch, 2 inch difference =24 
47-24=23

so 23mm and change, literally 1 inch. That's equal to 4 degrees of camber or one hell of a rear door delete = widebody.

The SSRs would be much cleaner to fit IMO.

Of course all that said, as long as you have the inner strut clearance... which I know my car definitely doesn't have.

^^Yah, like I said when they're both sticking out 3-5 inches major bodywork is needed regardless, that's what I'm getting at. Obviously the milder the offset & width of the wheel, the more natural the bodywork will seem. I would like to go with the SSRs but not because bodywork will be less, but for personal reasons that I wont "put on paper" but either set of wheels will be baller... I thought the SSRs wouldnt fit in the rear & that's the reason I didnt originally buy them & opted for the T1Ss.
 
About clearance, if you're talking about inner clearance, keep in mind that either set of wheels is so offsetted to the outside that that's irrelevant unless I was prolly tryng to run 16" wheels, lol... makes sense? matter of fact, when I did the test fit, I looked at the car from behind nd it seemed funny cuz more than half the wheel is past the mounting surface. We also have guys running 11"s in Y50 Ms (rears) & the wheel/tire sit flush with the fender so us Y50 guys have some good inner clearance imo.

Nah, hood's the same... still gotta replace it tho, it's just bent out of place, it's a long story involving female driving habits in walmart parking lots & I'll just leave it at that, lol... which brings me to another mod: carbon fiber hood... I'll see how it looks, if it doesnt look good I'll just paint it... quick & easy fix, just like the trim. ; )

Well, bags arent here yet... :signdammit: but the car's interior is getting the lux treatment... it will be all the seats' inserts in a dark burgundy with diamond stitching along with the door panels. All the headrests & armrests will be wrapped in the same fabric but without the diamond stitching & the headliner will b done in black suede. Obviously I'm hoping for the best outcome... 
 
P.S. DVD headrests are coming out.

I wont know cause i do not have factory service manual.. but it should not be to hard, just time consuming to make a harness. that is if you do the digital climate for the rear. but for the seats and sunshade and stuff thats all power splicing

Ok, how about as far as rails nd making the seats fit in place physically?

maroon will be a good look

Rails will fit the contour of your car. The mounting points should be there may have to tack weld nuts onto the body so the bolts have something to screw into. I do not have the harware but cheap through Infiniti. Once you get it lined up you will see where everything goes. I wish the rails fit the q better. But I don't want to hack something that some one could benefit from with a car that can actually use it. 
Nice thing with the y50 is that the controls are in the arm rest not the doors like mine so wiring is kept incabin for ease of wiring

I think the SSRs are super clean and out of the ordinary. T1s are vipped out IMO they're like the poster boy for vip style.

Well, another mini update... got the new mirror covers with turn signals installed, the car once again looks very different for the best. Great mod but it's sad Nissan didnt integrate this on a flagship luxury sedan... even Scions come with turn signals on the mirrors, smfh. I'm very happy with the outcome tho...

On another news I'm 4x4ing on OEM suspension after driving so low for such a long time & I literally feel like I'm driving an SUV, lol... The reason I had to take the coilovers off was because I sold them to another forum member on here (sorry about the wait Freddie) with the promise of taking them off & shipping them out as soon as my air system was installed, which would've been like 2 weeks ago but the air bags never arrived (as you know everything else did tho) so now we gotta file a claim with USPS... never ship USPS, they're always losing stuff & I cant recall one single UPS package that I sent or received being misplaced... hopefully this will get sorted out quick... driving my car like this doesnt feel right anymore. :shrug:

Mods are lookin good homie. For the record I think the mudflaps look better on. I've been quiet, but I'm still watching. Lol. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the compliments man & I've mentioned to someone that the mudflaps make the car look better... when it's not kitted or when it doesnt hv the aero package, so I totally agree wit you, they do hv to come off tho, with the coils they sat about half an inch off the ground nd they're all messed up & when I go air (hopefully soon) they definitely need to come off for obvious reasons.

I loved Germany man, I was stationed there from 1999-03 nd my biggest mistake was coming to the states... I had an option to go to Hawaii nd my dumb ass reenlisted for some $$ & choice of duty station & I picked Fort Hood... :pat: Grunts in the army are limited as far as where we can go but 25th infantry is in Hawaii... that's one regret I have in my life, lol.

Yeah, man... I know (about Hawaii) but I traveled a lot in Europe, so I figured it was enough traveling & fun for a 4 year span, a lot of cats I was tight with were coming to Texas plus I was getting homesick... so Texas it was. 
 
I was stationed in Ledward Barracks (1/26 inf, 1 ID) in Schweinfurt... it was small town but loved it & we were just a few hours from most major cities anyways. You're definitely in for a treat man...

I feel ya on being homesick. If I go to germany it will be for a 3 year minimum or a 9 year maximum. Ill probably only stay 3. Ill miss it here too bad to stay longer. Cool thing is; ill be aable to save money and if my house doesn't sell immediately the government will buy it. So when I get back ill be able to finally build the house I want. :)

Yeah they do. Lol! Which is perfect cause the market is garbage for sellers right now. At least in utah it is. Also I'm not a contractor, I work for the DOD. There is a lot of nice programs for relocating. They not only will buy my house but also pay me an additional 1800 euros for housing a montn,  600 euros for food and expenses (150 each), they also pay for all the moving fees, give me an additional 20k a year, and I get to keep my current job here at hill afb. It pays to have a service comp date that goes back to 1998. :)

About the interior, well, their modus operandi is just like bodyshops, give you a deadline & never meet it, lol... they told me they'd hv everything done in a week (lies) nd they havent even finished the door panels or the rear seat... but I'm physically going in tomorrow to check on everything & see where they at. 
 
Gotta hv patient when dealing with these type of ish man... I called them like 3 times during the week asking for updates & I feel they felt I was buggin'em or whatever & all I wanted to do is make sure they're doing exactly what I envisioned & not their vision nd save us a possible headache for the both of us, u kno.

Don't get me wrong I work my ass off, but no I'm not on the line fighting. I would if theyde let me though, believe that. So now I just fix the planes that the soldiers break. Lol.

I don't think I saw what you were planning on doing with your interior, I saw pics of it tore apart but must have missed fabric and design choices. Guess I gotta go back and look. Lol. I can't believe how fast your project is moving.

Hopefully I get to post a picture of something, lol...

Thnx Adrian, I obviously had many choices but didnt want to go with anything that would resemble any other M's interior, like peanut butter, stone, wheat, etc. So figured this would cut it, different from any OEM interior, & it will stand out but not so much that's gonna b too loud... thought about grey also but speedracer is planning on doing something similar on that color so I wasnt gonna shit on his ish. Thnx to Khanh as well who did a photoshop on a color I was almost dead set on nd I ended up dislking it & we also discussed some color options.

@Rob, yeah, they showed me the cutout from the seats & it has like a thick foam beneath the "perforations" & on top of that it's not really perforated... it just looks like it, I'll try to take a pic on wednesday so I can show you.

Cooled & heated seats should still work, we just had a discussion about the perforations on our leather & by what I've seen so far (my seats' inserts cut outs from the seats) our leather is not really perforated, just looks like it.

my car has only seat warmers...i get depressed everytime i ride in my friends lexus and turn on the seat coolers...best. feeling. ever.

No updates on the upholstery since they havent called me & I've been busy shipping some wheels & doing some errands anyways. The bags could've been installed already but we're waiting on some fittings & a regulator... they were overnighted. I was hoping to hv that done today so the upholstery ppl could take the car & finish it... but that's another reason Im not tripping about them not calling me today, lol... :biggthumpup:

Hey Blain, remember ppl gotta crawl in order to walk, this is my first time on bags & all I knew I wanted was independent control of all 4 corners & I got that... imo all the other whistles should come after I've mastered the basics. I was helping on the install (especially since I'm a pro at taking my interior apart, lol) & I'm already a little familiar with the setup & I could prolly do an install with a friend... so that's good & will prolly save me some good money in the future & possibly help somebody else as well, so that was pretty cool but we did have a headstart on those valves coming together, tho I dont see how difficult putting them together could've been.
 
As far as the gauges... are u referring what gauge do I hv to read the PSI?? If so, it was in one of the pix, in the center console by the DVD player...

Double thnx my dude... & I know it's gonna sound weird again & I may be considered an oddball about it, but I just dont like how double stitching looks...  imo it takes away from the diamonds & focuses on the threading. Especially when you're not trying to blend in the thread, which is what I did (complete 180 from original idea.) I'm a freestyler, lol... :shrug:

Thanks dog, but Im not gonna b mad if you did a similar color, besides we hv different platforms, if u hd an M then we'd hv a problem... plus you could do double stitching & not blend the thread in, nd trust me, it would look mad different.

What would posses you to allow a shop to run all those guages wires and switches on the outisde of you car .... Call me a Cannuck but this is just asking for trouble .. and its a bad idea for a Any car beside a FULL TIME display car.. 
 
I think you should use up the room in the trunk over the Fuel tanks and place those Valves and fitting .. but what do i know .. EH !

They will be covered by the rear splash shield... nonetheless, tell me the actual cons instead of just saying it's a bad idea & I will def take it into consideration. In case I get rear ended they're too far back to b touched unless my car ends up like an accordion, lol... in that case the last of my concerns would b my air system, plus we dont have harsh winters like back home here in Texas, it does get cold & might snow every now & then but very seldom. So what's your point?

If you bottom out and tear a line or smash a valve you're pretty fucked as I know with the wheels you're looking at you won't be able to roll all down.

And you had best plan on rolling slammed or else bags are wrong. roll hard park harder remember....

running valves outside the car isn't an issue as long as you make sure everything is tucked away secure. it's been done in the truck world longer than most of us have been driving. at first glance your location seems to be horrible but it looks like your spare tire well it uncommonly high.
 
as far as crawling before you walk, you're not doing yourself any favors. this stuff is simply outdated, the new stuff is simpler to install and better (imo). manifold valves have less connections, which means less potential for leaks, but since yours are used they're probably air tight. then you have a cluster f**k of wiring which would have been a plug and play harness with accuair and those old school switch boxes are ugly as sin. the kicker is that [I]when[/I], not if, you decide to upgrade you're bgoing to end up redoing pretty much everything you have done. do it right and do it once (too late now).

But trucks have high tuck point in the bed, even when laid out they usually have several inches from valve block and tank mounts. Advantage to having full framed rear end with pretty much nothing inside of it.
