Opinion/ Remarks y50 M45 08'

Hey Guys,
About two years ago i purchased a set of Lowenhart Br-5 20' off member Tbrack.  Let me tell you they were in bad shape (i knew that going into the deal).

Anyway got them redone and back to original beauty.  The rims were 20X8.5 up front and 20X10.5 out back so i rolled with 225/35/20 and 255/35/20 Falken 452 tires.  All is fine and dandy when I had them installed.  Then last night, not even 24 hours after having them installed (see second picture)blow out...I was on the highway so it wasn't rough road by any means (Wantagh Parkway for you Long Islanders)
Ideas as to what could have caused this?  BTW running Megan Coils.
I've got, so far:
1. Too aggressive of a stretch. (Didn't know such a thing existed :giggity:)
2. Ride is too low. (there is clearance and no noticeable rubbing)
3. Tire was riding close to strut lock nut (Clearance was checked at 1/2 inch)
4. Too much weight in the back (had passengers in the back (2))
5.  Slow leak in the tire, tire gave.  (possible, ill explain in another post)

Any ideas suggestion, conspiracies, or guidance is welcome.

Staring off with a dumb question:
Now I know my car has a TPMS.  Now if I got tires without this "feature" wouldn't the TPMS light be on in the cabin at all times; or would it just not be able to report the actual PSI of each tire?

Well anyhow after I got the rims installed I left the shop and noticed no such warning light on my dash.  Anyway, fast forward about 2 hours and I'm driving and all of a sudden I realize the light and hear weird noises like flat tire sounds.  I pull over to check the tires and didn't notice any flat so continued with no such sound.  I wrote it off as "rubbing".  :pat: FF another 5 hours and ka-blam!  This series of events leads me to believe the slow leak theory.  Hummm....food for thought?

tpms light will be on if the sensors are not installed. oher possible causes:
 
1) tire defect
2) bad mount
3) insufficient pressure
 
stretch isn't that aggressive and as long as you're not hitting anything clearance is a non issue. load rating is possible but unlikely.

Thanks for the input OG.  I figured the stretch was mild at best.  but tire defect and bad mount could deff be the case here.  Well seems like imma have to start bussing some heads to see whose buying me a replacement.  lol..thanks again

Age could have been a factor also. How old are the tires? Theres a four digit number inside an oval on your sidewall. First two are the month second two the year.

i was thinking clearance too, when i looked at the pics. like it rubbed something on the inside shoulder of the tire.

I didn't get a chance to see the date on the tires.  I got them replaced today.

With the new tire in place I'm going to monitor the progress on a daily basis.  My guess is leaning very heavily towards slow leak, I had the tire filled at about 4:30 pm and installed it on the car at 7:15pm today.  Tested PSI @ 38 I will check later tonight and see where the PSI is at that time.

Thank you all for your input and I will report back.  Keep your eyes on me i got some sweet ideas starting to come to fruition.  MAC mini install, puddle lights, and a sound system....

Wow, I thought Falkens were good... I love my Nexens... so I'm good, lol.

BTW OP, I had the same thing happened to me on another car, when I went to the tire shop they told me it blew up because I was running on it at a substantial high speed while they were low on air.

I have nankang...Nankang FTMFW!!

i run nankangs, but falken is my tire of choice. never had an issue, but i also stay away from 452s.

Update: ok it has been a few days running the fresh tire on the car with no slow leak issues.  I guess it is safe to say that it was a leak issue that turned into a blown tire.  Oh well, what I've learned is that get TPMS sensors in the tires or be willing to check them manually at set intervals...thank God these wheels are onl yon for 3 months =P
