possible new project... need opinions.

found a buyer for my benz @ the asking price.. cash. 
i always said if i sold it id buy a long wheel base jag and run air suspension on some wide euroline SL and keep it simple.
well, thats still my plan. i found the jag... for the right price and i have hook ups on everything else.

anyone have any experience with older jags i need to keep an eye on? maybe anything as far as mechanical goes or the suspension setups?

im looking @ 97-98ish xj6L/xj8L's.

I always heard Jags were a bitch to maintain, but that was generally talking about the really old ones (pre-90s). I have to say that would be a sick project though. Bit like the J-line jag right?

the jline is what i have in mind. would you happen to have any more pix of it?

and i havnt sold my car just yet, but i do have a buyer. just weighing my options and doing all the math to make sure im making a smart move on my part. i love my benz but im ready to take on a new challenge.

I have personal experience working with a friend on his V12 Vanden Plas Jag and all I can say is it was a PITA from day one... just get ready for alot of headaches.

why not go ls400 or 430..that would sick for houston, no ones ready for that. but a jag would be different

ls's are done all over. I'm competing on a nationwide scale. haha. still researching jags as of now..

If i were to do a Jag.. i definately would start at the mechanical.. depending on the year of Jag you're working with.. Once ford took over.. im pretty sure they are good. . there are lots of V8 coversions available. .LS1 anyone. ? Personally id do a 2JZ 3.4 NA or something. . 
As for J-complete im sure anyone who imports parts can get it for you. . try Will @styleboutique.com. .. Have you looked at the prices though ? whoa.. Jags are usually very cheap once they are older than mid 90's. . all the older XJ6's are like under 4g's now. .still look beautiful. .

i think itd be an awesome project but i just could not bring myself to purch one due to lack of anyone having one to let me know if they were good or not maintenance wise

Awesome idea I have always loved the XJ, I was going to buy an XJR and VIP style it, but the maintenance cost is really high. My aunt owns a bad ass British racing green XJ and doesn't have reliability problems, but the costs of maintenance  are very high.  It is a truly pimp ride to roll around in. As long as you have the cash, I say go for it.

Love the benz!  But I'm always a fan of picking up new projects!  As everyone has pointed out, it'll be tough to maintain and get parts, but once you've done the dirty work and found the right people to work with, the project should come out very clean.  Jags have a very sophisticated aesthetic appeal, I only wish there were more around.  I built a Jaguar S-Type a couple years ago, had to fabricate my own bodyparts.  If you know anyone that's good with bodywork, maybe you can get them to design your own.  Trust me, its worth it seeing your creation come alive!  Good luck!
