Need a bit of help..lowering / offset question

I have a 2000 Infiniti I30 and currently running the stock wheels, which are 16 x 6.5" +45.  I am wanting to move to a 20 x 8.5 in the front and 20 x 9.5 in the rear.  My question lies in the offset of the wheels.

I have talked with a few wheel specialty shops when I originally wanted 20 x 8.5" +18 all the way around...i was told the wheel would stick out way past the fender and i would not be able to lower the car at all.  I was then told i need a high offset wheel to clear the fender.  This didnt make any sense to me.

I know "essential" here on the forum is running 19 x 8.5" +17 in the front and 19 x 10" +22 in the rear of his Infiniti I30...same year as mine.  His car sits pretty flush, which didnt make sense by what i was told at the shops I went to.

So what i need to know is if I were to get a wheel thats 20 x 8.5" +20 in the front and 20 x 9.5" +25 in the rear, would I clear the fender or would I have some poke?  I was under the impression that the higher offsets and wider wheel would make the wheel stick out past the fender and the lower offsets would give it some pull....maybe im backwards on that?

8.5/9.5 +20/25 will be about dead flush. essential has a good amount of poke with some pull iirc.

That is what i want....flush, no poke no pull.

What tire options would you suggest? Maybe a 225/30/20 in the front? What about the rear...not sure what should be used with a 9.5" tire?

LOL...good call.  I knew something wasnt right since essential did it with low offset wheels.

I am thinking of going with 19s now....20 seems a bit big.

What can i do for tire options??  225/30 in the front and 245/30 in the rear?

Just go with 19x9 and 19x10+20ish. use 215/35 & 225 or 235/35. You'll be fine

So you're saying use a 215/35 on the front and 235/35 on the rear?  The fronts I want 8.5 and the rear 9.5.

215/235-35 is my recommendation as well. 19>20

yea, a shop will always tell you it wont fit because they dont understand the look we're going for with our cars.  id stay away from 8.5" width..it sounds like youre looking at either MRR or knock off wheels because you cant stray away from the 8.5?  my first set of wheels on my car had a 8.5" width up front and never again will i get it.  you can fit a 9" wide wheel with a more aggressive offset than you can with an 8.5" because of the tire fitment.

9 will work, just have to raise the offset a llittle or modify fenders. i have no problems with 8.5 width personally.

This shit is a headache....ordered the wheels, ordered the tires. Then was told the 215's are nationally backordered. Ordered them from another place that said they had them in stock....now i cant get ahold of them.  Wheels didnt ship since they cant locate the 9.5's....we will see if i get all of my stuff by middle or end of next week.

I ended up getting everything and putting them on.

The 215s in the front arent a problem....the 235s in the back werent a problem except there was a bit too much tire and was rubbing a bit for how low I want the car.  So i am putting the 225s on the rear to see how that works out.

Had to roll and pull the fenders obviously, but it is starting to come together.
