y33 or y34?

they both look sikk laid out. and i know the Q is the cadi of infinitis, but i've always loved the looks of the M. i just hate that there isnt any "real" bolt-on coilover kits other than spendin an assamount of money on japanese parts. so just tryna see who likes what better here  :shrug:

Get what you want ..at the end of the day its your car ,your choice and your payments.. buy what makes you happy ! 
 
Y34 are special ,very limited numbers and number of builds  makes them unique that is the reason why i have one !

y34 all day. don't let these guys fool you, the y34 suspension has been cracked (or at least chipped). they just like to make it look hard.

I would trade two Y33s for a Y34!

I think they did. Max Sports did a prototype on F.L.S's Y34.

I know I'm one of the only people on here that's owned both so I speak from experience. I loved my Y33, had it 6 years, it never gave me any problems other than replacing the alternator 2x with OE. It's got seriously comfy seats, and I'm pretty tall at 6'2, I thought the power was plenty good, and I loved how it looked.  I've had my 2004 Y34 for about a year and 3 months now. It feels like a more updated version of the Y33 in a lot of ways and a totally different car in other ways. It's definitely got way more power, I thought the Q was pretty quick, but this thing is a rocket. I like having an 04 for one because there were only like 2k even imported to NA so the 04 is super rare, and the blue color I have was only available in 04.

As for suspension, the two cars are identical in front, so the whole "complete w' spindles" thing applies to both. The only companies who sell it w/ the spindle already on either want a core for yours in return, or charge 2500 or more.  Just so you don't have to cut your stock ones?  Who would pay 2x the price of super high quality like MAX just for that? You could get some from a junk yard and have money left over if you really want to keep your stock ones for some reason.

psMAX should have the stock shipment around the end of this month.  I've been riding on the prototypes for about 3 weeks now and all I can say is I'm so impressed that I'm riding slammed, and it's so comfy. To me, it's a big, 4-door VIP sports car now lol.

In the end, get what you like the look of best because both are awesome cars. The Y34 does have stupid little "issues" that the Y33 never did, like creaky drivers seat (an easy fix for me) and the faulty fuel gauge which happens on pretty much all of them. Other than that, you can get the Y33 for less than 1/2 the cost and have money left over for parts.  Then on  the other side, the Y34 still looks like it could be a new model car. It's all up to your wallet and your tastes.

I LUV SOME 33's lol......go for the 34 because a modded one here in the states is even rarer than a 33 and they look gangsta when done right

34s are rare we know, but imo, y33s are nicer.

Y34 would be my choice ( I drive a Y33 and my cousin has a Y34) but the real questions is what is your target? Are you trying to get your car to have huge lip wheels w/ low offsets and laid out without much body work? If so the Y33 is much more wide wheel friendly, but the Y34 looks much more aggressive with "less" agressive wheels anyway so the answer lies within your goals.

Y34 doesn't really do anything for me. I always vote Y33

It all depends on preference IMO. Couldnt really steer someone to pick one over the other. I cant get over the body lines and overal package of the y34. So many possibilities..Im crazy about Y34's but i sure wouldnt mind having a y33.  I Never owned a Y33 but they are bad ass cars. I like how y33's are wider and more bigbody sedan. For sure build the one you favor:biggthumpup:

i emailed max about the coils and he said 3-4 weeks. so you have to cut/weld up the fronts too with the max coils? 

i work at an infiniti dealer so i've been in and out of both models plenty of times. i love how the Q is super plush and smooth riding whereas the M is still a stiffer ride but more elegant looking and i LOVE the body lines. 

my plans are just to drop on coils with some modestly aggressive wheels. no tucking, i want it to sit with a lil poke right above the rim.

i wouldnt mind keeping the CEC wheels that are on my G. 20x8.5e20/10e25 i would imagine would be a decent start. anyone figure what the ideal size/offsets would be for the stanced look? i saw where one guy mentioned 19x9/10 zero offsets

to give an idea, my rims clear the fenders by about a business card and w/ the spacers calculated I'm 19x9 +11 and 19x10 + 18. Zero offsets on a 33, sure, but i'd find it hard to do w/o mad camber on a 34. I have -5 front, -4 rear. Keep in mind, I had these wheels on my Q as well and on that car I had 15mm spacers, which would put wheels out way past the fender.

Since you've been in both many times you already know. The Q is wider, but not much, and interior feels the same space-wise to me. M is a big car, but the Q does look bigger. IMO the M is more of a sport sedan whereas the Q is definitely a true luxury sedan.

My co-worker was out of town and left his Chrysler 300c hemi parked inside next to where I park. The M is longer, bur his 300 is wider. His car is stock w/ 22" rims, it looked huge next to my car, but the reality is mine is a longer car.

You might be able to guess what my vote would be. The nicest thing about the Y34 is that people think it is way newer than it is. I am constantly asked if it is a "new model". Plus people think it costs WAY more that it does.

this is true. they both look good. the M has a meaner look to it. and after putting coils on one, it doesnt matter how smooth or soft they ride in stock form lol. i'll keep searching for a white 04 M (closest ive found in good low mile condition is 9 hours away :( ) or i'll pick up a silver one. but there is a stupid clean 01 Q for 5k right down the road from where i work in that light green/silver color.

I'm in the market for a Y34 when I get back to the states! The look for me is too gangsta and when done right looks better than any other VIP platform!

With how much Y33's are worth these days, you could pick one up at beater costs and have both.

I stayed away from cheap y34s because of the oil consumption issues some of the early ones had,   I love both the cars, but my choice of the Y33 over the Y34 and the F50 I was considering was a good choice in the end- but thats only for me not for everyone.  I was looking for a 100% reliable car, little chance for headaches, easy to find parts.

out of all the Ms and Qs i've worked on in the past 3.5 years at my dealer....i have yet to see one with OC issues.

there were some with the 02 F50 if I remember correctly.   People were telling me they burn oil...

the only thing ive seen/done to any of the older Qs and Ms engine wise...is injectors on the 1st gen Q, coils on the y33, and did a short block on a F50 due to a seized wrist pin causing a knock. then again, these cars are minority compared to the g35/fx/qx56 that come through the dealer....obviously lol

Y33's. Coils, alternators and knock sensors. Worst being knocks. They are a bitch to replace. Mine need doing.

actually lemme add to the y33 list.....the idler pulleys, and yes the atlernator...those are prolly the 2 main things i have to fix on them here at the dealer. lol and the starters on the F50s.

Yep, I replaced my alternator (Denso IIRC, whatever OE is) 2x in 6 years on my Y33 and I didn't have a system or anything other than a Pioneer nav and head rest monitors.

ah snap, found a IP 03 y34 with 71k for $11k bout 2 hours away.....needs to sell my carrrrrr

pretty much all the '02 Q45s I've come in contact with burn oil, and with the M45 its pretty common as well. Quite a few threads exist about it on the nicoclub forums as well

Y34. im also an infinti tech and im going to sell my LS to get one. hopefully ill find a customer with a well maintained one and i can pick one up that way.

ive had my LS for a while and ive had to do a fair bit of maintenance to her, heres a brief list, (PS pump, PS lines, rack and pinion, stater, timing belt, water pump, upper control arms, rear sway bar end links, a/c low side line replacement, compressor/drier replacement, fan clutch. now if i wasnt a technician and had to have a shop do this for me then i would have spent way more than what i paid for the car, granted i have 230k on her currently and she runs fairly well (i think i need a FPR just need time to actually diagnose it) . i also see a fair amount of y34s come through the shop so i get to see the problems that these cars have and theyre not that bad, the starter is ALOT easier to get to than the LS for sure but overall theyre good cars

P.S. seat tracks on the Y34 are relatively common

bet. im an infiniti tech too. we dont get alot of y34s in but the few that are regular....have no known problems. plus, im a nissan/infiniti guy....gotta stay in the fam! :biggthumpup:

^word. I check my oil every month or so (running Amsoil on 6 month OCI ~4k miles) and if it's a little low, I top it off, but I really haven't ever had to cause in the time of an oil change, it might drop about 1-2mm on the dip stick.

The fuckin seat creaking is so annoying though. But I found that it's the hinge on the seat, not the rail, at least on my 04. Whenever it starts a-creakin', I grab a can of spray lube, lean the seat all the way back, pull the vinyl trim over the hinge back (the one on the door side is the only one that creaks) and I SATURATE that bitch. After 1 or 2 days it will be all quiet again for about 4-6 months. This time I used thicker motorcycle chain lube, we'll see if it lasts longer.

The game changer for me was getting an aftermarket warranty from my credit union when I bought the car. It was 5 for 5 years and 60k miles. My car had 32k on the clock so I am good up to 92k (im only at 60k with a year left of my 5 years).

The damn thing covers everything and I can take it to infinit. It was only $1500 too.

So far they have paid for:

New AC compressor.
New Gauge Cluster ans Fuel Sending Unit.
New Seat Rails on the Drivers Side ($1100)
New CD Changer
New Headunit "brain"
Misc Light Controll Module
Trunk Shocks

I should be getting a new motor due to the oil consumption her in the next week. I am currently doing the "drive 1,000 miles" test right now. Last time in-between oil changes the car ran almost empty on oil and I added two quarts. 

I am not sure they will take another 03-M45 but hey I made out. I think all totaled its been like 9,000 in repair bills, and that is without the new motor.

The funny thing is all of this is stuff I would have just dealt with. I don't use the changer and would have just put in an ipod interface. The headunit was fine, just did with the changer to do it. The seat rails was because of the squeak and I would have found another fix. Trunk shocks, no biggie.

Most luxury cars are a roll of the dice when out of warranty.

yeah, extended warranties are put to use when you get alot of shit done. lol

ok, goin towards atl monday to check out some apts and whatnot, but i found a newly listed 2003 IP m45 on wheat. heated/cooled seats. 82k. 2nd owner. no nav or icc. tinted windows. chrome stockers. magnaflow exhaust. for 10k. sounds like a plan. :dance:

yeah im prior nissan too, moved my way through the ranks and made it to infiniti. 
 
Jade- on the trunk struts, if its an issue with the trunk closing after you open it theres a TSB on that. its not struts thats the fix its a unit for the mechanism

i checked out that 03 IP y34 on monday. non-navi, has heated/cooled seats, already has a nicely made aftermarket exhaust with magnaflow mufflers from the flex sections back and window tint. bumpers have a couple nicks that have been touched up but overall the car is a 9/10. no rust, clean carfax, originally a car from cali and arizona. 83k. runs and sounds awesome! and factory chrome wheels. he wants 10k. kbb value is around 11k. and im waiting to hear back from my loan officer at the credit union to see if i got approved for a loan. then i will be parting out my g35 and selling it in bone stock condition! :biggthumpup:

theres a couple tiny hardly noticeable curb spots on one or two of the rims and a very small ding that is hardly noticeable in the right rear quarter panel. and the carpet has a lil worn spot on the driver front side near the edge of the floormat. otherwise, a super clean car. rode and drove so smooooooth!

lol you crazy. nice looking car tho. any chance you got any side shots to show how flush your wheels are? my CEC wheels are 20x8.5 +25 and 20x10 +20 so i think ill have a relatively flush looking setup on this car. i got these on my slammed G coupe right now with 25mm spacers all around to give me a lil poke in the rear and flush up front lol

nice pick up, im waiting to find one with a back up cam. i like the white with the black int, or silver/black (silver/black more common) but we'll see

yeah i would have liked white on black but every white M ive seen has had the wheat interior. atleast this one already has window tint and a magnaflow exhaust. lol

Nice!! You'll definitely need spacers to be flush, but it should look good! Glad you got what you were holding out for too.

i think my 20s will sit ok on the car. gotta get some front tires to mount on the set of oem 18s for my g35 once i refinish them.

I have had a y34 for just over a year now. I always hear of other owners talking about how people think their car is either something else, a new model, or some other cool compliment. The only attention my car ever got was "For a second I thought this was a Crown Victoria" by some guy at a gas station. I feel like Charlie Brown!

yep, put the G all back to stock minus the painted 07 headlights, painted tails and the JL system....sold it this morning! im bout to move to atl over the weekend, so once i get settled and the job proves to be providing me with some real money...i'll make the order but i've been sellin everything off/from/for the car and i have almost 5k saved up already.....poweredbyMAX coils will be ordered veddy veddy soon!

Well just picked up a barn find '03 y34 for a goooood price yesterday. Just got to clean it up some and get everything straight on it mechanically. Going to be fuuuuun. Lookin for some stock wheels or something in 18 for now cause whats on there is crap. Later.
