Random Question Thread

Was wondering if we could get this stickied, just a thread dedicated to stupid questions (which I seem to have an endless amount of)

Just putting it out there...

BTW, if I pull the face off my dash, do I need a new bracket for a double din head unit? Or can I mount up the DD without changing anything? My g35 sucked so I'm hoping the Q is easy....

ive got one... well two in one. can a car on airbags get a boot? and or can a car with stretched tires get a boot on it? or is a slammed car an impenetrable brick in the road for all parking services. towing included. i live downtown in a city and constantly get tickets. im already planning on air but this was more of a random thought.

Normally (at least the Toyotas/Lexus' that I've come across) the dashes H.unit brackets got a zillion holes to mount nearly whatever unit u desire. If not just use some "hole plate" pieces to mount the unit and finish it off with a right fascia (custom or aftermarket)...

As far as I know, boots wrap around the back of the wheel, not to the wheel or anything like that. So the answer is yes to both, you're not exempt for parking tickets lol

Yea, my G had a to use the JDM bezel but with the Q it looks like the cd player is in a slot about the right size for a DD headunit.

See what I mean?

For the Y33 you dont need any special brackets or anything. I Installed my Kenwood DNX5140 with the OEM bracket and screws.

No backup camera on the Y34. The F50s did have them though so it should be a fairly easy swap.

Did the Y33 come in any other green than the dark green? (DT2)

Ok shit, it came in DP0 as well. Anyone know how similar these two colours are?

About the double-din retrofit, how did you install it? Is it just that panel that comes off or did you have to pull the center console as well?

And to connect it, is an aftermarket adapter harness necessary?

The hole console come sout I'm pretty sure.

And yes you need a harness, I can't remember the name but it's the same harness for all Nissans 1996-2008 IIRC.

My G uses the same one as my Q.

First you have to take the wood trim off that's around the shifter and the vents right above the center part then that will give you access to the screws that hold the center part ( radio, clock, climate control) and yes u will need a wire harness from scoshe I got one on eBay for around $4

Meh, I personally wouldn't. Think of the interior as a fine ladies outfit. She usually matches and looks good as hell, if she was wearing all kinds of designer brands she'd still be ballin... but different lol

Your call really, some companies offer interior pieces that others don't. But just because you have a full JP interior doesn't mean you shouldn't have a certain Garson item. Just keep it flowing, don't go overkill on multiple different logos all over the car.

IMO

Just to put this idea out there... have any of the Y33 guys used the Tanabe GF210 springs for an S14?

A few guys ran the s14 DF210 and it went pretty low but they weren't quite stiff enough, however the GF210 have higher spring rates and they don't drop the 240 as much as the the DF210 do.

I might try them as an experiment just so everyone knows what up...

U have to remember the y33 is almost twice as heavy as the s14. So spring load n all that comes to play. But I could be wrong.

ok so i see guys with their front fender lips hella close to the lip/sidewall which is a little confusing to me... so here's my question with my y50 I was running +20 and would slightly rub at full turn and i could still fit my hand in between the sidewall and inside fender lip. i'm fully maxed out on my coils prolly +3in drop. i threw on a 15mm spacer and now i'm @ +5 on the front with a fender roll and slight pull and can't hardly turn for shit lol like maybe almost half and i rub like CRAZY... i'm just confused on how people run so close and are still able to turn and not rub.... oooor do they just deal with it... understanding there is prolly a lot of body work done to make it LOOK factory but is that what it takes to roll tough like that... a super noob question sorry haha

Well the guys that have done S14 springs in the past always went with DF210s, which are max drop and lesser spring rates than the GF210, so I figure the GF210s being built for handling are going to sit a little higher/stiffer than the DF210s.

Any pics of the fitment? It really comes down to how the car cambers under compression. I haven't dealt with the Y50s enough to know if they camber the same as my Q or my G.

Have you done any fender work?

I heated mine up and used clamps to hold them up for 20-30mins and clean it really well with alcohol pads... And ive also replaced the 3m with gorilla tape and it's a lot thinner then 3m so you cant see a grey line where they mount

Fish flatulence may not be one of those most common marine mysteries you are dieing to know the answer to, but at the same time it has never failed to create a perplexed look on the recipients face and get everyone thinking…do they?

Well, the answer depends on your definition of a fart. If you consider farting to be the by-product of digestion (gases) expelled solely through the rear-end, then no most fish don’t fart (with the exception of herring and sand sharks). Some may say they’ve observed air escaping from the neither region of a fish after they gulped air at the surface, but this isn’t really a product of digestion, so can it be termed a fart? Most fish do use air to inflate and deflate their bladder to maintain buoyancy which is expelled either through their mouth or gills which can be mistaken for a fart. For example, sand tiger sharks gulp air into their stomachs at the surface which they then discharge out the back door to attain a desired depth. Is that a fart in the true sense of the word? We’ll let you decide. Experts say that the digestive gases of fish are consolidated with their feces and expelled in gelatinous tubes which fish sometimes eat again (eew…I know!). Point being – No farts.
The Herring however, is a whole other story. Research and observation has shown that this fish creates a mysterious underwater noise through their stern (referred to as farting or breaking wind0, which is always accompanied by a fine stream of bubbles. This way of expelling air to create a high-frequency sound is means of communication for the herring and shows no connection to digestive gases or what we call farts except that it looks like bubbles coming out of the anal duct of the fish.

A while back someone said they did, but more recently I heard they did not.

search around G35driver you'll probably get the answer there.

Lug studs

Hey guys, I need to swap out the lug studs on the rear. What's the best or easiest way to do this? Thanks!

You need to hammer them out, depending on the car (assuming you Y34) you probably need to remove the brakes and then shift the hub every around to get each stud to an opening (most cars have an opening in the back side where the studs can easily be hammered out and pushed back in, it would be just a little slot in the dust shield or could be an open area)

Pretty much the same setup here, but I've got 19s on the car, I believe you're on 20s. From what I've seen the problem is the shape of the fenders on our cars. Y50s have very flat and vertical fenders, whereas most other VIP platform cars have a more flared or arched fender. If you look at the re-shaping that is done on most Japanese VIP builds, there is a heavy arch that contours to the shape of the wheel and tire (only the absolute outside drip edge, that is usually very short, is actually vertical.) That shaping of the fender is where I think they can get the proximity to the wheel but still maintain the ability to turn from.

Question, how easy is it to remove the Y33 chrome trim? talking about the molding half way up the doors and all the way around the bumpers. Looking to paint but trying to find out if I'll need to replace all of that once I remove it.

Your better off replacing it with a new one blain.
You can get some at a autoparts store

To remove it my buddy used a flat head screw driver with tape on it

#2 do you know if the jdm vs usdm rear bumper is the same for the m35/45
was reading up on a guy that had picked up a ings lip kit and it was too long?

#3 what would be a mild fitment w/o having to go crazy camber and aftermarket arms on bags? 20x9 20x10 +10 with 225/245? Thanks

Yea? I heard a few people have replaced it with that, you have any pics of how that turned out? I usually hate that shit because it looks so cheap and wavy. But I suppose if it's the right size and applied properly you're fine. I really don't want to spend 500$ in replacing chrome trim lol

That's a kenstyle bumper... kenstyle always does inserts like that so I would assume it's KS specific rather than JDM specific.

#2 yea, JDM fuga rear bumpers are shorter than ours here in NA. Japanese spec crash test ratings are much less intense than ours so the rebar doesn't need to be nearly as big. These bumpers are often called JDM shortys. Same thing with V35 skylines (G35 sedans)

I used it on my front & rear bumpers as well as my window visors. And like Monard stated just a flathead will do to start it off.
Dealer is around $200 for the f/r trimings or $20 at your local autoparts store.

The door trimmings is just held on by clips and pops off so they can be reused when you remove and install them for paint

Any pics of how yours turned out?

Mine has seen better days so replacing it is probably the best option.

They are an aftermarket piece, not an OEM bumper insert. OEM Y50 Fuga's look like this

They just happen to be popular in the kit designs for the Y50.

disabling it is probably your best bet. iirc i think the y50 being sold right now has it disabled for fitment purposes.

If its like a 240 you can get a cancelation bar and get rid of the power steering pump and go for a non hicas pump i am sure. but would have to see how it all looks before I suggest just messing it all up haha

haha, i would assume so! Other wise they should just stop engineering haha. I just remember the old Chevy adds when they "came out" with it. Saying it was like new tech. Yeah to a truck.. haha

Re: Random Question Thread

You disable it. How you can achieve this you asked... Well I have no idea lol but I know that the movement radius is extremely small. So small infact that other owners have only needed about 2-3mm extra clearance. They are also slammed some air some static.
