45Revolver G50 Build - Kouki President Conv, Fenderwork, Paint, JICs, Trafficstars

This is going to be my build thread for my G50. I wanted to wait until I had done at least a few mods before starting this up, looking at stock cars is no fun. I've had this car for 5 months. This build is two stages, first is EXE Style done by me (all DIY at a friends garage), second will be VIP Style done with the help of a bodyshop. Start out with a 1994 Infinity Q45 / G50 with 42,000 miles. Time for a DIY EXE Build. Add a set of JIC FLT-TAR VIP Coilovers. Slam it as low as you can on stock fenders (no big deal, EXE Style). Then you add a set of Wald Duchatelet wheels, 19x10 +43 front/rear (again no big deal on the specs, EXE Style) wrapped in 245/35/19 Yokohama S-Drives. Add some minor accessories, Sessions Pillar Trim, some Bellezza Curtains. Finally add some sounds, Clarion DD, Full Rockford System, two 12P3's in the trunk. A few weeks ago I completed the first round of mods at 50,000 miles, EXE Style. Here you go:

I will be adding more pictures whenever I find them. Car is going into the shop this week for the second round of mods (VIP Style). Got lots of things lined up ....

Yes, I <3 g50... so fresh and so clean!!

I did do my maint, but there is still more to go. I didn't go the whole 'replace everything' route tho, I believe in 'dont fix it if its not broke' hahahaha. But on the real, it's a low mile car, but still 17 years old, so I'm trying to keep it tops. So far replaced the valve cover gaskets because they were leaking, powersteering hose, a tuneup, and 2 coils were replaced right before I bought it. Up next is an injector check, the radiator cooler install and a drivetrain fluid flush.

Car has been dropped off at the shop. Right now the pres conv is waiting on a few bolts from Nissan (we wanted to go with new bolts), and the car is getting ready for the suspension install. Gonna be doing a coilover/cup kit front/rear, adjustable suspension links (SPL Z32), and new bushings. Will have updates within the next few weeks. Will try to get some pictures ....

Well, I think both the conversions I have are Kouki front, tho I would trust Sessions-USA to know more about the specific year than the PandaGarage guys. I mean, not to diss PandaGarage or anything, but the guy was like 'well I think it's this' or 'I think it's that' and hey who knows what he sent me (I cannot tell by eye). I believe the PandaGarage conversion was Kouki front and Chuki rear, while the Sessions-USA conversion (which is all brand new parts) is Kouki front and Kouki rear (can tell by eye based on the trunk trim and HID's). When I have everything laid out next to eachother I'll really be able to tell. I will try to get some pics!

yeah, panda garage showed me some pics of items i requested and were way off on the early/mid/late. i believe you bought the bigger kouki grill from bryan and am interested to see if it bolts up on the earlier hood that comes with a smaller grill.

also, add a tranny cooler asap if you haven't already. that's the main 94-96 g50 killer.

I'm pretty sure the stuff they have is all the stuff I actually originally brought in through New City a long time back (all of it was brand new factory parts). Everything I brought in was all Kouki. Brian had a lot of my other parts too after we moved away from the islands. Not sure what he may have left as that isn't exactly a quick moving market chassis.

I wouldn't doubt it, these islands are small hehehe, yup all the Pres parts from Bryan were brand new (inc the HID's), and I did buy those Walds from someone with an LS400, his name on FH is 'D-Mode' or something similar, cool guy. I bought them like 3-4 years ago, planned to run them on the F50 I used to have, but never got the suspension sorted out on that car so they just sat. Now they're being used as mock up's for the fenderwork, and I'm putting in the order for the Amistad's. Can't wait to see this thing built!!!

Dropped off all the rest of the parts at the shop last night, the whole front end has been removed from the car. Moving along ....

Thanks you guys, can't wait to see them on the car. Right now it's at the shop (GX Auto) getting the rear half done. Here is what I'm having done:

- Kouki Pres Conv w/ HID
- Fenderwork (fitted inc cut/weld)
- Color Change
- Coilover/Cup Kit
- Adj Links

Still need to source some parts. Some Pres Fogs with a retrofit of some sort. Some true Kouki tails bcuz the ones I have are Chuki. Also gonna have to re-do the trunk sounds setup, the 12P3's are gone, gonna do a custom box (wall) with a single 12T1. Then it's on to the Interior ......

Its not a bolt on conversion unless you have the japan radiator support. With the us radiator support, you either gotta fab some stuff, or cut up a japan support and re-weld the pieces on the us support. For this conversion, they fab'ed up some brackets.

Well, the project ran into a huge problem. I dunno what to say, except that the speed the shop was working at did not work for me. So I canceled the build with them today, refunded, and pulled the car out. I dropped the car off at another shop (TechOne). I think they can get the job done. But unfortunately, because so much time was wasted at the old shop, the plans have changed. Today I had to move all the parts back into storage by myself (almost 2 complete cars hahaha). I'll keep you guys updated .....

Yeah it does suck, messed up all my plans. Yeah I'm still planning to come by Texas but I'm not sure if I'll be shipping the car yet. It all depends on a meeting I have with some VC's in August. I'm still gonna try to check the grill fitment for you OG, I got the parts in storage and can check to see if it fits or not.

So now because of timing, this build will have to be done in two stages. The first stage is the body conversion, fender flaring/pulling, an OEM re-spray, and the Trafficstars. Not going to be able to do air suspension, radius fenders to roll low, or a complete color change like I had planned. Anyway, really happy with the new shop. Went down today (48 hours after dropping it off) and there is already progress. Right now the JIC coilovers are really holding me back, wish they went lower in the front. And to anyone that ever buys rims for a G50, the rear can take some huge wheels, my 19x11 with +12 offset is weak for this car.

nice progress. but damn that is a hell of a pull on the rear fenders. I was able to fit a 18x10 -6, which is 6mm more poke, on my rears with a simple roll and slight pull. With what you got going on you can fit 12 wide with negative offsets on the right camber settings.

i wouldn't say weak, that's just a lot of metal repositioned. i test fit a 9.5 +10 and it was flush to the inner edge of stock fenders.

i'm surprised the fronts are your issue. mine will damn near lay out, but my rears don't go nearly as low. of course mine are super lows.

Yeah my bad, did not mean for "weak" to come off so negative. These wheels are really nice, but after the initial fender work they looked small in the rear (offset wise). They are 11" wide with +12. I decided to run 10mm adapters to push it out more since the fenders had so much room, making it effective +2 offset. We could have even run 15mm, maybe even 20mm adapters, making the offset negative like SimpleG50 said. I just trip how far the stock fenders can be pulled/flared in the rear. If someone wanted they could fit some huge wheels!!! I think the reason is the fender design of the G50. So much different ways you could do it, and apparently lots of metal to work with!! For this build it was flared out, and I think that's why there is so much room. But now they've been re-worked to fit these wheels, so it all looks different already

Mahalo to REV-01 for hooking up the sale of the wheels

I'm not sure what the liberty style is, but we're changing the body line on the fenders. I don't like the stock fenders, its just a weird body line to me. Don't know how to explain it, folds in and has an extra line. I wanted it gone. So it was flared out and the body line was removed (smoothed out). Unfortunately, because I'm not running a kit yet, we couldn't easily remove the entire body line all the way across the entire fender. They are adding metal on the rear, and adding material to the stock bumpers, but the body line of the fenders is going to be a smooth transition from the stock body line at the edges to totally smoothed out at the lip. They finished one of the front fenders, I liked it. And it might not matter anyway because I might run the chrome mud flaps (cheeee hahahaha) which would cover whatever is left of the stock fender body line. When I finally get a kit, it will be redone to totally smooth across the entire fender (and a color change), for now this is kind of the best we could do considering the time frame and deadline.

Came across an airsus kit, and bought it. Thank you Sessions USA!!!! Gonna have to piece together some more parts, but might not be on JIC's for long!!!

Here is where we're at now (fender wise). This is the JIC's at full down front/rear. The bodywork is not finalized yet .... Hopefully the airsus parts can get here within the time frame. If all goes well it will be a Bold World kit with Accuair Management and e-level.

Here is where we're at now (fender wise). This is the JIC's at full down front/rear. The bodywork is not finalized yet .... Hopefully the airsus parts can get here within the time frame. If all goes well it will be a Bold World kit with Accuair Management and e-level.

Fitment wise, you planning on tucking after the airsus installation? Or being flush and moderately high ?

I want to roll low. I dunno, I don't really like that big tuck look, cant see part of the rim, bleh .... I like it when it looks impossibly slammed driving around and the wheels are almost poking out. Auuuurite!! The Airsus kit is a Bold World Ultima Bag Kit, but not sure on the exact model. Also not sure if it will get here in time for this round of mods. But guarantee it will end up on the car as soon as can!!

Another picture for an idea (older pic of incomplete bodywork, hammer and dolly), but this is ride height...

Bodywork is coming along. Here is a picture of the finished rear fender (still gotta be block sanded and primer again, but almost finished). They did it hammer and dolly, really good work. The fender was flared/pulled so much, even the rear door metal was modified. But you can't even tell, they made it look almost stock (which is what I wanted). And now the fenders have so much room, I'm gonna be able to run somewhat normal camber specs at a slammed ride height with these wheels, something else I wanted to do for better drivability and tire wear (this is a daily driver thats why). In the future if I ever wanted to get crazy, I think these rear fenders could rock 13" wide and negative offsets with camber.

Right on thanks brah! I can't take credit tho, I'm working with Ryan at TechOne Customs in Hawaii, and the bodywork was done by one of his guys Scott. Cool bruddahs. Its going to the paint booth sometime this upcoming week, can't wait!! After that it goes to alignment for all the adjustable links.

Looks like something went wrong with the Bold World kit and now it's not gonna work out. That's two failed attempts at bagging this car now. Can't roll on the JIC's too long at this height, they will blow. Gotta decide if I'm gonna switch up the springs on the JIC's to something really stiff like the japan guys, convert to a better brand coilover made for S13/R32, or bite the bullet and go with Air Runner (which I dont like because I have a grudge against KYB)

i'm kind of having the same issue. my jic go a little lower than yours, but not as low as i'd like to be. sucks because i love jic quality. the flip side is that on 19s i can't really drive any lower anyway, and i don't really care about laying out parked. so i dunno...

ron (urmyhero4now) had bc r32 coilovers on his g50 and said he had to lower his spring perch also, so i don't think z32/r32 coils are an automatic solution (s13 isn't compatible afaik).

Yup they are def top notch, can't wait to see this thing painted! Well, I dunno about the whole coilovers thing, I got my own take on it, and it might not even be right. But straight up, JIC's have a street rep for blowing, esp when laid out. Maybe different for this application. I hope...

Anyone know anyone selling Kouki President Fog's?

don't get caught up in the hype. most of the people with something to say have never touched a jic coilover in their life. more importantly, jic had some lower end models (sf-1, sa-1, etc.) that were prone to issues because of their design. they were older, single tap (loss of suspension travel when lowered), twin tube models that were sold as old stock or imported used. cats were buying them because of the name but they are not the same as an flt-a2 or flt-tar, which are a full tap (total length adjustable, full travel at any height when adjusted correctly), monotube design. you're talking a $600 entry level coilover vs. a $2600 full featured model. what made it worse is that cats were blowing the low end coilovers that were not featured to be driven low and getting mad because jic did not rebuild twin tube dampers. jic is still the benchmark for (once) readily available, mid grade (with high grade being full blown race coilovers), japanese coilovers as far as i''m concerned.

at the height you're at do you have the spring perch lowered or is it snug against the spring as per the instructions? i actually have my rear perch lowered about an inch, which i am a little nervous about, but it's actually common practice.

did you ever test fit that grill? i need one bad.

Well, it was mostly first hand experience from being involved in the drifting scene. But that was a different application, different car, and different type of use, so I'm hoping it will be OK for this application. Either way, I'm going to find out because all my airsus plans keep falling apart and I'll be on coilovers for the time being. It's laid out as low as it can go front/rear without adjusting the spring perches. And it's still completely drivable until I come up to a speedbump or something (them its FML). But I'm thinking about ordering some stiffer springs and replacing the springs that came with the JIC's. Problem is, I don't know the spring rates of the springs that came with the JIC's, and I don't know what it's valved for. I literally have about 1.5in clearance between the top of the front tire and the chassis itself and the wiring harness (fender has plenty clearance, but remove the fender and then you see the potential issue) So might need to limit the suspension travel with stiffer springs, or re-wire everything and modify the chassis itself. Also gotta find out if that weird front suspension arm is going to bottom out or not...

Since the car is being completely re-sprayed, they decided it was cool to do a color change. So now it's getting the color change, still looking over the Hot Hue's Catalog to choose a color. Was able to source the HID's from SessionsUSA (H1's and D2R's). Fogs are still an issue, cant find OEM Glass ones. Might just ask them to mold in some glass fogs from another car.

If we can get it done in time it's going into the next show (what is that, 1 week away? hahaha)

your rates are 9/7. should be able to go +2 and stay in range. an inch or so of droop should also be fine. so you ran jic on a drift car personally and had issues?

Right on, I think that is the only other president conv on Oahu, but I do have some left over parts someone could use to make another one (Chuki). Might keep em as backups, not sure.

OG, not for my car, they dont make JIC's for the car I was using to drift. But one of my friends was sponsored by JIC and his JIC's blew on the track right in front of me. What can I say, street rep is street rep, can't help it. I just gonna run these and hope they'll be OK for my application. But if they blow, I wont be shocked.

Here is some pics from today, it's getting sprayed right now ...

We were in a rush to get the car ready, so I didnt have time to do a test fit of Kouki grill on Chuki hood. But from looking at it (eyeballing it and guessing), they appear to mount differently. So maybe some mods would be needed as far as mounting, the nuts/bolts/washers/etc, maybe even drilling. I had a Kouki hood so it bolted up.

So we made it to Spocom, the Tech One guys (awesome bunch) got the car re-assembled in time. But I'm not into car shows so I didnt bring a camera. I just have some cell phone pics from my Evo. Here's a few, will post more later when I got time. Plenty ppl took good pics, just gotta find em online.

Thank you guys! I can't take any credit tho, I didnt paint it, so the credit goes to Ryan at Tech One. But hey, Congrats to Revision Audio for taking Best Team Spocom 2011 Hawaii with their sick VIP car lineup, good stuff!!!

OG, nah I'm sure you can make it fit with some mods. That's what I'm realizing with these President Conversions. If you do it ala carte, gonna need to mod stuff. Even between the years, Zenki, Chuki, Kouki, there are lots of little differences!! Headlights mount different (had to make new brackets two times!) There are also wiring harness differences. And for the Kouki grill, physically it should fit the Chuki hood, but might have to mod the Chuki hood as far as the mounting bolts, the Kouki Grill has like 12 mounting bolts and the Chuki Grill looked like it had about 6-8. Anything can fit anything if you mod it!!

Thanks you guys! I still need to finish up a few things exterior wise and suspension wise before moving on to the interior. I'm really planning on spending alot of time on the interior of the car. My approach is a focus on functional mods. This thing is my daily driver. So things like LED light strips everywhere are out. Things like wood rear fold down tables are in. And repping my home, I plan to incorporate things only found locally here in Hawaii, such as Koa wood. I also plan to really focus on the interior lighting, using interior lighting to accent some of the mods in a functional way. Nothing stock on the interior except for the dash. But it will look stock. If that makes any sense ...

Here are more pictures of the build, along with more pictures from the show.

I had the President emblem shaved, as well as the rear antenna. But I'm missing two of the trim pieces (right next to the tail lights). Well actually, I have the left side only, and missing the right side. If anyone knows where to find a set pls lmk (Kouki Trunk Trim)

Next on the list is to fix the rear fitment. Since this is a daily driver, I don't plan to run lots of neg camber. I want as normal tire wear as possible. Once I get all the SPL parts installed, going to set the camber I want, and then go from there (using an adapter to get the fitment I want). I think my front fitment is on point for a daily driven car on coilovers, maybe just a few mm lower. So the rear will be similar. Don't know if you can see it, but the rear is flared so much, even the door is flared.

An indirect sunlight shot of the paint right after it was done. This color has heavy pearl, so changes alot depending on the lighting

To be honest, my first color choice was Lamborghini Purple, another high pearl purple, but after seeing Hot Hues Purple Passion I was sold. I like it even more.

OEM Kouki President HID Glass Fog's are one of the missing exterior pieces. Plan to run them with the purple HID bulbs. If anyone knows where to find a set pls lmk

Thanks you guys!! This build was stressful because it was on a time line, but I'm really happy with the way it's coming out. Pretty close to what I had envisioned!! The body shop guys did an exceptionally good job on the bodywork and paint. I think he said they had a good 10 hours of labor or more on each fender. And the paint came out flawless, much respect to them!! I will be going with them for all future builds. Class act.

Vendor/Shop Credit for this build:

Cherry JDM Parts - Sessions-USA (Bryan), Vendor here on VSC. Very good!! A++!!

Body/Fender/Paint/Conversion - TechOne Customs, Hawaii. Very good!! A++!!

Sounds/Alarm install - Mobile Car Audio (Kam Hwy), Hawaii. Very good! A+!

SPL Suspension Links - Original Garage, Vendor here on VSC. Very good!! A+!!

Initial Conversion (was redone) - GX Auto (Mapunapuna), didnt work out but great guys.

Blown JDM Parts - PandaGarage, CA, would actually avoid PandaGarage in the future, every part had a flaw. But the guy (Nick) was nice.

I had thought about white at first, and by chance the parts car I bought to finish this build (95 Q45) has the white leather interior. But a while back I decided I want the interior to be dark, and look factory, but more modern and functional than factory. So I decided to stick with black as the main color and decided not to use any purple inside the car. I'm going to use a good amount of dark Hawaiian Koa wood (real wood, not a wrap or paint). So my main focus will be wood accents and accent lighting. Color scheme will be simple, black with dark koa, and then some accent lighting with super white almost bluish lighting to set it off. I have lots of really cool things planned, stuff I haven't seen done yet. But don't worry its not ridiculous stuff like chandeliers (lol). I personally think accent lighting done well can totally change the look and feel of the interior. What colors you choose, where it's mounted, how it's mounted, and where it aims, etc...

Thank you, yes I need air!! hahahaha!! I'm gonna have to search and find the other guy that used koa, would like to see how that turned out. Thanks for the info!!

Getting the SPL adjustable links installed tomorrow, evening out the ride height, and then scheduled for an alignment on Sat. Once the alignment is done, then I'll prob change the adapter on the rear for the fitment I want (matching the front). Car just rubs waaayyy too much right now, our roads aren't that great. But by next week I should be good, and my fitment will be good for a daily driven car on Coilovers. Then I can get ready for the next round .... Air!!!

Got the SPL Links installed and got the alignment re-done. Still need to get a few more suspension parts to make the fitment perfect, but for now, it's at around -3 front camber and -2 rear camber (picture is with the -4.5 camber). Took off the rear spacer, raised the rear a bit, and now with more tire friendly camber, almost got the rear matching the front with a little poke. No longer scraping my exhaust on everything. Different setup than some might like, but going for a street friendly setup since it's a daily and static.

I think it looks great!

I too like a more friendly approach to the camber. I always liked to see wide and deep wheels with little camber rather than a whole lot to just fit them. And if you know the platform and what is on it you will appreciate it more. To the avg tuner wont know what they are looking at what it took. They just see flush, camber, big wheels and drool over it. I too hope to keep the camber on the minimum with a aggressive look, which is what you did my friend!

oh yeah, edit your sig with the new updateness

To update the thread, have not been ignoring you guys, but still working on the stance, and dont want to do any photos until its closer to what I envisioned. Its going to take some time before I get the stance and fitment perfect, but its going to require some different hardware up front. Scheduled a shoot for this weekend, Bryan from SessionsUSA helpn me get the stance as good as can with the current hardware, and fitment still a little off, but its still pretty tight. Car will be going in storage while I travel for the next few months, but will prob make a showing in Wekfest in Dec when it rolls through Hawaii. Might have some new hardware in place by then....

Ok, finally got some new pics for you guys. The car is dirty, did not have time to properly wash it. Hope to take care of that tomorrow (detail) and then get the car ready to be shipped to California (raise the coilovers and put on stock wheels), hopefully get it on the boat this week. Fitment is still an issue. This is the current fitment and stance, car is on static coil overs, street friendly setup, around -2.5 camber front/rear. I will have to work more on the stance and fitment when I get the car to it's new garage in Texas (hopefully by the end of this month). It's also still missing some exterior pieces (some trim, fogs, and some other stuff).

First, here is a before/after, same car, but the picture on the top is an attempt at EXE style, picture on the bottom an attempt at VIP style.

Nah dude I've been out of the car for a few months already. I've had to focus on work right now and I needed to invest in that for more equipment. In due time I guess.

Thats automatic, that way you can check out the Kouki parts in person and see if maybe they'll bolt on to the Chuki parts (saving you from having to get another hood!! $$$), I also might want some OG help with some stuff (some interior stuff)

speedaddict;417871 wrote:moving to Houston?

Yeah, want to spend some time with family and decided to just move up there for a few months instead of just staying for a few weeks. So sold all my stuff and gonna ship the car over. Road trip sounds good too!! I built this thing to drive, just driving it around in circles here in Hawaii (hahaha)

You got it!

No way Ron, your car was an inspiration, one of the first G50's in the states that was done up right and looked sick. Dont sweat it, just wait for version 2. Good things come to those who wait (or something like that) no homo

I'm not sure when/where VIPfest is but I'm down to stop along the way if there are meets or cruises or shows or whatever. Road trip style! I got 10 days to get from Cali to Texas, somewhere between Nov 4th to Nov 15th.

I probably will be passing thru Vegas, and yes def down to cruise with some other VIP enthusiasts! Warning tho, whenever I'm in Vegas I'm getting drunk off my azz so people better be ready to party!!

Wow thank you!! Too much!! I don't even have any guns in the trunk (reallylike your trunk setup hahaha). So much more work to do. Still got interior, the kit, and the airsus, and the next set of wheels. I'm almost 1/2 way there!!!

Shoot, ran into some snags with the car, insurace, and some life stuff, and now looks like the car might not ship till Nov 1. Will def miss VIPfest, sorry guys!! :(( And even worse, its going back to stock suspension and wheels for the trip. Road trip coolness level just got downgraded .... big time....
