tire stretch experts

want to do stretch on my honda element....not trying to emulate a vip style...I just like the look of stretched tires....but the wheels i am looking at are 18x9.5 work wheels, and thought about stretching a 235/50/18, (tire that closest matches overall diameter), is there a problem with stretching tire with larger sidewalls, or does anyone have an idea how it will look.??? ..thought it might look similar to the scion boxes with 195/50/15 tires..

Yea try to find somethin with smaller sidewall.  It wont look hardly stretched at all with that much sidewall.  Might kinda look lame, like its just wrong tire outta ignorance instead of stretched for a kickass look.   (fine line there).    I think 225/40 is a much better bet like Yokota said.   Its gonna look funny with that big of a sidewall I think, and not too stretched.

yesterday i did a 235/35/19 on my friends 19x10 euroline DH, pirelli rosso. very weak stretch. i think its the tread design cuz my 245 dunlop on my 19x10 AX looked more stretched... at first i put that same 235/35/19 pirelli on his front 19x9.5 and there was almost no stretch! looked super weak so i told him to get his rears... so i think a 225 should suit you fine...

i am showing stock tire size on these to be 215/70/16? man what a shitty tire size. lol

if i had that car id put like 235/45/19s on it and screw the gearing

i dont see you getting a nice looking stretch on a car that large without going 20+ on the wheels, or very wide 19s

to answer your question, stretching a tire with a large sidewall will look similar to the wheels pictured above.  while the 70 series example is extreme, using a large sidewall over a wider than normal/recommended rim will result in a "stretch."

IF you wanted to achieve the "stretch" look you commonly see on low profile tires, but retain oem OD, do the math:

1) find factory OD 
2) choose desired width (ie. 9.5" from above)
3) decide on amount of "stretch"
4) select sidewall/width combination according to #3
5) solve for wheel diameter

And depending on your goal to retain the factory OD versus your personal tastes, you may contend with the following:

1) retaining factory OD @ desired "stretch" = large dia wheel
2) difficult to find dia wheel to match factory spec
3) difficult to find tire size for desired width/dia combination
4) height of vehicle
5) suspension/chassis/body clearances

i listen fine.... i am not trying to put a tire that is 4 inches smaller that factory rolling diameter, hence the reason i mentioned that the size was close to original diameter, and why i choose the 235x50x18 tires...a tire about 1 inch smaller that factor size in diameter, would be acceptable...i didnt mean any disrespect..but i drive my shitz daily, cant have speedo off by 20 mph, or gearing off that much .... lots of scion Bb run 15x8 or 15x9 work equip wheels with 195x50x15 tires, which i find looks ok...buy those that posted after my second post thanks agin your help is welcomed and appreciated....below is a pic of how my element sits right now, just wanted to change it up..

yeah it is my element in the top picture, but i am lowering it some more and taking off the 20" wheels, 

gonna put some work wheels xt7 from apec..., just trying to decide on the tires

are you going to be low enough to have to stretch the tires to fit under the fender?

run like a 245 40 or something like that

i think your missing the reason for srtetched tire setup. stretching is to fit wider rims with lower offset. the  difference between that white 240 and your element? ''fender, meet tire''

yeah my fenders will meet my tires....i have over an inch of threaded adjustment left on my tein coilovers.....with about 3/4 to 1 inch of gap presently.... and i will be trying t clear an inch wider wheel than i clear now 9.5 vs 8.5inch wide..

well...if i go with a smaller tire, than originally planned...i might have slight fender gap...i might just stick with 20's but switch to 9.5" wide, and lower it a little more

what do you guys think of a 225/35/19 on a 8.5
and a 245/35/19 on a 9.5 width?  still new to this ish.

why dont you just lower your car more on the wheels you have? that way you can see how much you will need to stretch the tires, per those wheels you have right now. they look better than the dorifto rims you are purchasing, and will fit vipstyle more. you'd be able to run a smaller tire, keep the stock overal diameter, and it will fit better overall.

can you give us a profile shot of the wheels on your car? are they sunken battleships? if so, buy some adapters, and flush them out. drop your car that 'over one inch', and then push out ur wheels a little bit. trust us, it will look better than the drifter rims you are buying currently.:judge:

i decided to scrap the "drifto" wheels...and mentioned in the post above, i already sold my previous set of 20's,  i am purchasing a set of 20x9.5 wheels, and will lower my coilovers the extra 1.2" I have left of adjustment, and just roll it like that, thanks for those with helpfull tips...

what wheels are you purchasing now?

Stretch tires to hide the tires under the fender, not to show it!  I think you should just keep the tires fat.
