The time is at hand (moving to Cali, finally)

So on feb 19 I will officially be laid off of my job which is the first stage of my move. After that I will stay with my parents for about a month then off to sunny California! So my dilemma is the transport of my van to the golden state. I don't want to drive it all that way so I'll probably have to rent some equipment to trailer it. Uhaul is an option. So does anybody have any ideas or would like to help me get the van to the bay area?

If you uhauling stuff then yes just trailer the van along....if flying then ship it...GL

honestly i wouldnt live here by choice! everything is expensive as fuck and taxed up the ass! Texas and Florida are way cheaper and have decent VIP scenes (texas defnitely has a scene!) even Vegas i think would be better.
 
not to mention the rediculous vehicle codes! just sharing my opinion since moving somewhere is kinda a big deal!

Shipping in an enclosed trailer can be pricey, but if money isn't an issue, then i'd definitely go with that. When I used to work for Right Hand Drive JAPAN in Torrance, we shipped cars just about everywhere in the country (and world). Here's some leads that might be able to help you out.

They're a bit pricey and can take a bit longer than most independent drivers that use a broker, but they get the job done! DAS is a huge company & has a network of drivers/trucks available at any time, any place. They do door-to-door shipping, terminal-to-terminal & just about any other variation.

Used these guys a few times as well. They're a brokerage, so they find a driver in your area heading to your destination & plan a schedule accordingly. The only draw back is that you can be stuck waiting for a driver for awhile, but price is reasonable & they can find an enclosed trailer at your request. These guys usually just do door-to-door.

Having lived in Oak Harbor Wa and drove from there to Sacramento when moving, id say the drive is worth saving the money your going to pay to ship it. Its not that bad of a drive, the scenery is beautiful and over all worth it,.

Then again I made the drive in a F350 on 39's with a car trailer towing my explorer on 37's...:dance:

I would move to Vegas, super cheap there, especially the houses. only down fall is, there ain't no jobs there

I towed my President from CA to TX, rented a trailer for a week for like $400 and spent about $700 on gas for the truck (Dodge Ram Hemi) so around $1100 total to go 1500 miles (3000 round trip). But guess it depends if you got something to tow it with. And you gotta think about returning the trailer if its not round trip. I think U-Haul lets you return the trailer in another state, but they were more expensive than the company I used (local Texas company).

I would love to move out of here...   This state is horrible for business owners.

I left the Baltimore / DC area 16 years ago for So Cal, I would never go back unless they suddenly had our weather and landscape (and relaxed weed laws). I love it here, but it is definitely expensive.

I miss the Bay area all the time....but this Bay Area (Tampa) is close enough since the wife's Family is here.
