Blitz's Y33 Build Thread

Just purchased today 11/6/10 a 2000 Infiniti Q45 White on Beige/Tan?   48,659miles.   Bought from a married couple that were original owners.  Couple minor door dings and couple chips on windshield.   Bumpers have some minor scratches but those are going to change anyways.   I will need to order a new under panel up in the passenger front but that's no biggie.   Headlights need some polishing because of some yellowing.   Car has no tint YAY!!  I get to choose tint color!!  Rest of the paint is in great condition.   Interior needs some cleaning but hardly much cracking or anything.    Car was originally from Arizona and they transferred it to Cali some years ago when they moved.   Car drives straight with no pull with very good tire meat left.   Also had a decent amount of service records such as transmission replaced due to some hesitation at 25K miles and AC compressor was replaced due to leak.

BTW I just finished talking to someone about a bunch of parts so things will be going in sooner than expected.   I think this car will be done by the end of this year or early January.

In Japan I think they were played out long ago but I still love it....  I'm not sure what I'm going to do about wheels yet.   I'd much rather buy used and save the money but there are some rims that I know will hardly ever come up for sale.

Nice, congrats on the new purchase. Fresh color combo too! The f50 is a tough act to follow, but I'm sure you'll do her justice.

I was going to move on get myself a euro car but after a week of searching I found myself looking at used Qs and LSs.     I think I'll just save the money that I was going to spend on a new car and use abit of it on parts.   With this low of miles this car should give me plenty of enjoyment for atleast the next 5 years.   Definetily worth it for under 10K (I'm just talking about the car).  Parts is another story but atleast I'll get some money back at the end for that.

I'm already putting deals and offers in for wheels...  Yes I'm going to reuse my air setup.   I just now regret selling the Accuair VU4.   I'll also will need to get 2 more bags.   Right now trying to figure out if I want to use Megan and cut the stock spindles or custom the bags on the stock struts or coilovers with bags.

Bump with pics in OP.

Today paid tax and fees and it's officially mine.   I also got new plates which to my surprise was free.   I told the lady that I bought the car but it only had 1 plate...  She said to take it off and bring it in.   She gave me brand new ones with brand new stickers...  Hence the high plate number "6".   

Cleaned the seats alittle since they looked alittle grimey and the windows.   

Contacted VIP TINT+GLASS or whatever his username was and setting up appointment for Madico 55% Green Tint.   I'm abit skeptical about it but I'll give it a try.

Sweet!!! Good news at the DMV is like hitting the lotto =) Green tint was actually the first thing that popped in my mind when I read the color combo. I already like where this is going...

green tint will set off the cream. i agree with s chassis suspension, just without the bags.

Today just got the green tint done at VIP Tint + Glass.   Excellent job and service...  It's dark out so will take pics tomorrow..

Wheels were ordered today... looks like my friend is not going to be selling his Noble rims so I ordered some other SSRs...   now the 2-3month wait.

Touge Factory's green Y33 has gold LM-9.  Can't remember where I saw the pics tho maybe on here a while back.  

Pretty crazy that you went F50 to Y33!  I hope you are going aggressive again :D

Yeah Norman told me you were coming but I had to get to work and still took me over an hour to get back to the store.   The car is pretty cherry... Just needs some TLC in little places.   Today I just found couple dings on the front right fender and there are some dings on some doors but nothing that a dent removal guy can't take out.    Interior is in very good condition except the carpets but that'll be all done once I get in contact with OCKlasse for a good detail.

I know but that's the lowest it goes on their website...   I'm not looking to go crazy...  I drive my cars daily.   When I mean daily it means everyday.   To LA to Vegas to everywhere..   That's why my F50 had 130K miles plus.   Gas I put atleast $300-350 a month.

i get that -- i put 46 miles on my car daily (through hollywood on the 101 freeway, no less!) with -9* camber in the rear. i think i can say that's not an excuse ;)

Thanks...   I was going to buy your wheels if I come up this weekend...but decided Scara and Orden and all those are going to and kinda are be played out.   Went for a different rim which not too many have done.   Not so aggressive but I'm not looking to do something crazy right now...maybe later down the line when I have more extra cash or after the car gets alittle more beat down from my daily driving.

exactly VIP mags...which means all those cars are in Japan.   I want to be alittle different from the chrome, black, polished look that everyone seems to follow.

Trying to be alittle different here...    This Champagne gold seems to be very light in color.   I'm hoping that will set things off nicer than the other golds I've seen.

I liked how it looked in this picture.   That Version Select car color was bad and the picture was bad.

On their website that rear 19x10 +11 SL disk was the lowest and widest they had.   With that it claims 111mm lip size.   The fronts I first ordered 19x9 +10 NR Disk and that gave 86mm lip.   After an our I called and changed the fronts to 19x9.5 +4 NR Disk because I know this car can take it easily and it gave me 98mm lip size.    So yeah not very staggered looking... only 13mm difference in lip size from front and rear....   

Front and Rear lip size difference = 0.51181102 inches

This kinda gives an idea what it would look like.  White car, green tint, gold wheels.

they're both killer wheels. i actually prefer the ms1, but the lm9 is definitely the more elegant of the 2. i'm interested to see how you pull off the mesh on the y33. i forgot about that v:s one, i actually liked it (other than the obvious knockoff issue).
 
i dig what you're saying on the lip size, but what i was saying is that your rear fitment will only be 1mm more ag than your front, vs. a standard 1" stagger where it's 13mm f/r. most cats now are even going with more of a stagger than that because the rear cambers so much more than the front when slammed.

i remember damicci posted a pic of the lm-9 on one of his friend's cars and it didn't have boolts. i didn't understand why at the time.

ssr is weird -- only 20" diameter goes to crazy widths. fml. no 19x12's for me, i guess haha

yes Ordered the SBC...

I installed the grill when I did the tint.  Norman at VIP TINT helped me abit.   Finally took some pics of it.   I took the "Grand Touring" emblem off...looks pretty tacky.   Overall the condition is good but some scratches from where the emblem sat.   I think I'll just leave it rather then paint it which was my original plan.

I also installed my headunit yesterday that my friend gave me.   I decided to give him some money for it because I'd feel bad just taking it.   It's a older Pioneer AVIC-D1.   I just had to spend about $40 on harnesses and $80 on a back up camera.   Not bad.    Also had to buy a small plastic piece called a "rack" that was alittle warped.   Had to take the whole headunit apart into piece...not too bad if you know what you are doing.

Yep that is why the 18 and 19" LM-9 are pretty affordable.   

I like those sizes of the SP1 I think you will be happier with 9.5 and 10.5!

Update

So I got a backup camera to go along with my headunit.   I installed the camera and took apart all the lining in the trunk to get ready for wiring for the camera and air system.   Also started on the power wire and got the connectors and wire hooked up to the ANL 100amp fuse block.   Just got to find time now to run the backup camera video line, power line, remote line for air compressor and the 4awg power line.   

I got the Kbreak kit in a few weeks ago and the algernon coilovers came in also.   They are just sitting in the garage.   I noticed that the kbreak kit has holes molded in for backup sensors...I did not know this.   So I picked up some aftermarket backup camera system and installed it.   Last night I took a good look at the the front bumper and UGH they have sensors holes up front too...  I'm debating if I should buy another kit or just bondo it up..They are paintable so I'll be painting them when I get the kit painted.   That's it so far.    Still waiting the 3 months for the rims to come in.

Yeah I think I'll just get sensors up front as well.   I'll put it to a switch.    I just picked up a japanese model wing today... just like yours Jermaine.

hmmm  I don't know where to find dummy sensors.   I'd want the rears to match the fronts.  I'll think about it but I get such a cheap price on these that I think just putting in the real thing will not be so bad.

I'm trying to figure out if I'm going to drill holes to mount it.... also these are meant to be on 97-98 style trunk so that could be one problem.   Also that silver bar is alittle different with the japanese one.

was bored last night... changed cabin filter and ran the 4awg power line through the firewall.   I think alot of people forget this filter exist....so nasty.   On the seat are the brand new white filters...on the floor is the ones I just pulled out and looks like it's never been changed.

Running the line through firewall was a bitch.   I've done this a few times and learned to lightly oil the power line so it slides in through the tight rubber.   I first made an initial hole with a screwdriver.  Careful not to damage any wires.   I think the hardest part is finding the line underneath the dash.    I'm no professional but have enough experience to get it done.

for the F50 cabin filter it is a different part.  I know this because I bought it before.    It's actually a carbon micro air filter and shit cost like $70+   BS....   so I bought the cheaper G35 filters were about the same size but non-carbon and it was like half the price.   I'll just change it twice as often...  but with this Y33 I think  it was around $25 but check on [url]www.infinitipartsusa.com[/url]   If you live in a humid area it's probaby a good idea since it does get moldy.

He knows his electronics because he installs them and gets feedback from customers and these have the best track record and reliability.   Normally I think $100 but obviously gave me homie discount.   However I think he needs to give me another homie discount for the fronts now.    

At first I thought I'd just hide the little LED monitor and go by sound but I think now I'm going to install it right infront of the gauge cluster.   The material of the led monitor housing is almost an identical match of the stock gauge cluster shroud thing that it'll mount on...like a dull flat black.

After a night of GT5 till 4am I got up at 11am and got cracking at my car.   finished running the 4awg power wire for the air system and the remote turn on line.   Also ran the back up camera video and power lines to the headunit and all running fine.   Since I had the whole interior apart I ran the 9-wire line for the dakota digital gauges and another set of 9-wire for the switches....   OHHHH YEAHHH!!!  

Also today Jermaine pointed out a set of 97-98 Tails on Ebay and put in an offer and the seller took it...  now i've paid it and have to wait the 30-40 day shipping time...OUCH!   Anyways gives me time to do work on other stuff before I send in the car for the body kit paint and fender work.

yeah but might as well install it since it is somewhat low profile and the material matches well with OEM.   After examining the back up sensor monitor it looks like the beeps come from this monitor.   There are little slits on one side of the back.

that was my original plan too... however I asked my buddy and he straight told me "NO"  and that those were crap and to buy the Myron Davis one's.    I got the back up camera from him too and I originally wanted the ones where it is just the top of the license plate but he wouldn't have it..lol  he made me get the full frame since he says it looks better...  It looks ok... just abit too much chrome.  I known him for over 10yrs and he doesn't BS with me.   That night I bought half a bottle of JW Blue for the back up sensor and paid the rest to celebrate his first million gross sales for the year.

nice. i wonder what other brands he has experience with. i've never messed with any parking sensor systems but there are a couple of them from brands i consider reputable, most i recognize as crap.

my plan was to drop the pan to replace the filter/strainer... not sure if it's required but it wasn't too expensive so I got it anyways.   I think the gasket set and the strainer was like under $50.   I could be wrong

Very insperational !! LOVE the progress cant wait to see the end result.

mounted the monitor today and ran the line to the trunk via left side of the car...  This car is easier to work on than my F50!  Love IT!!!...    Also a pic of the rear view camera frame in action (you see the trees and sky because the trunk is open at the time).   As you can see the material matches well with the cluster frame surround.    I might have to put a tape over the little slits in the back because the beeps are pretty loud.    I hooked up one sensor to test it out.   The brain has power when in reverse but no sensors hooked up until I get the Kbreak kit on.

I think it's feets...  It starts detecting at 5ft and reads at .1 increments.  all the way to 1.5ft where it's a constant tone and then you get to about 1ft and it does a double beep and then long tone again.   but the digital number goes only to 1.5 at lowest and then blinks at 0.0

I think what they mean by crystal clear is that the orange has been knocked out... I dunno man.   For $500+ this is kinda a rip off.   Plus you need the center finish panel too even if you get these.

Are you just doing the 97-98 US trunk?  Cuz one of the vegas guys has the JDM kouki trunk and it's really nice.  It almost makes me want to do the conversion. He paid a pretty penny for all OE parts though.  It's in a thread here somewhere.

Yea these are them. It is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy over priced but I still wanted them. It may be the pics but they looks so clean and shiny.

I had originally planned to do the conversion because after seeing brokey's tails I thought LEDs would look better but I think I'm jus gonna keep the trunk as is and LED it. Found some dope ass rear shots of my car that proves that the 99-2000 still looks good IMO.

Last night installed JP Front Table.   The pattern I chose got close the pattern of my stock wood trim but the table is a shade or two lighter.   Anyways the problem was the glove box side inner box didn't match up with the cut made on the table and the latch bar was 1-1.5" off mark.    I had to saw some material off and redrill and reinstalled the latch bar.   You can see in the pictures.

Also I opted for the trim around the table...however instead of getting all chrome like most I got the chrome/black trim.   Kinda gives it alittle more character.   Also I haven't put on the cork material stuff yet because I was taking it off and on for measuring so much.   Now that I know it's pretty much done I'll put that stuff on later tonight.

For future reference incase anybody has this happen to them you will need a 5/64 drill bit.  Go slow so not to damage the wood.    For measuring I took the metal latch bar off the JP table and clipped it into the stock glove box latch...then tried closing the glove onto the JP table and watched where the 2 prong ends up the latch bar touched the table.   Marked it and started drilling (table off the car).   Get a hammer and lightly tap the prongs into the table.   Do not go to far.   enough so it stays and then reinstall the table on car and try closing the glove box.   Tap it more if the glove isn't closing as desired.

yeah from past experience they tend to curl up on the edges turning into like a giant cork contact lenses....and they are not cleaning friendly.  I'll keep that in mind and hold off on it.

i just dont recommend ever putting a real drink on them. i use my cupholders all the time and they just got all discolored from moisture.

yeah glove box is closed in that pic... when open its about half the size of the original opening..with a latch bar kinda in the way.   I can still pretty easily take in and out the leather manual case thing that Infiniti gives with the car.   Any higher and it'll get in the way of the vent control and vent on passenger side.   Also probably get even more in the way of the airbag...  or is there an passenger airbag?   lol i dunno

So these days been busy with the civic and it's been taking the garage space for now since it's raining and window is being fixed.   So lately I've been trying to figure out how I'm going to sit the bags on the coilovers correctly.   I've been having problems with the top hat and clearence from the top hat bolts.   The heads of the bolts get in the way of the bag to sit flush onto the top hat.    The top hat is threaded.   I thought about countersinking the holes and get countersunk bolts.    Now I'm thinking of leaving as is and taking the bolts out and using a bolt from top but the trick would be to use washers to shim the length of the bolt so it doesn't protrude at the bottom.      I'm also thinking of getting the top hats machined from the top countersunk holes to secure the bags to the top hat so it won't move.    This is where I'm at right now.

You can see I've found a bolt which is a M8-1.25 20mm length.   I think they sell a 16mm length and will try and use that.   I'm trying to use as minimal bolt length as possible so I can shim with as little washers as I can but yet get enough thread onto the top hat.

If you guys are wondering where I got that lower piece that threads onto the shock body...This is a custom piece that only a few were made.   I paid a pretty penny for this and will only be using a pair for the rears.  The fronts I'll wait and see how these turn out.

ok...so this past xmas day I wasn't doing anything...so tried to install the 97-98 tail lights I got from Hong Kong which technically is a JDM car.   I'm pretty sure they drive right hand drive cars but not sure if controls are in japanese or english.   

First you will notice that there is a slight color tint on the USM tail lights compared to the JDM ones.   The red also looks abit different.   In these two pics the jdm is on the right.

In order to take the lights off you need to take the inner trunk lining panels off.  There are a few 8mm bolts to take off.   Then use a butt of a hammer and push on the corners fairly hard little by little on each corner rotating.   Reason is because Nissan likes to use that really sticky black gooey stuff to seal the lights to the body.   Just go slow and have some newspaper ready to clean up the gooey stuff so it doesn't get on the paint.   It's just a bitch to try and clean it off.  Imagine stepping on gum that was sitting on hot black asphalt under the very hot sun.   Not fun.

Now the shitty part.

I took the finish panel off and fitted the JDM panel.   Then tried to put the inner lights on...UGH!!!   The trunk is different.   DUH.    Well so the cut outs aren't there for the back piece of the lamps to go in.    I could cut it out but I'm more of a perfectionist so I ordered a trunk lid WITH lights off ebay after looking around VSC for a parts car.   Now just waiting... I'll throw it on and get the wing installed too...hopefully by then I'll have the wheels set and the fenders massaged to fit.  Then I'll put the bodykit on and send it in for paint.   Of course this is also all afer I get the suspension installed too..

Also the middle metal trim that says "INFINITI" leaves some holes...This is some info incase some do decide to use the 99-01 lid and just cut out the area for the lamps to fit.   I could have done it because the wing will cover the holes but again I opted to get the real trunk lid.

The outer bolts on the JDM inner light seems to line up with the holes on the 99-01 trunk lid but could get it in close enough to check...the inner bolt you would need to drill a hole for.   When I mean bolts I mean the threaded bolts that stick out from the lamps in the back.

Pancake I do want to clear them out but when I saw how small the bulb access holes were I said forget it.... but now after putting them on I think I'll have too...    I think I'll have to do the old soldering iron plastic melting technique.    I used to do that on my friends Prelude turn signals.

right on BLK... I was going to do all these crazy things but getting a top that'll work with it.   Pics will be up sometime this week...should be receiving by tomorrow.   Once I figure out taking the orange little housing out I'll look into invisble orange bulbs....

for the trunk just get the 97 98 trunk swap out the license plate garnish if you want to use the jdm one but if you used that trunk you would have just been able to swap out the lights and call it a day. well besides rewiring. also just bake or heat gun the tails is alot easier than the other way you mentioned. thats what they did to the tails oscar(cakes) has.  the tint in the US tails is like a thin plastic strip that can be taken out to make it clear lenses. hope that helps. alot of the kats out here in vegas have done that already. except me i like my 99 tails! good luck with the modding!! cant wait to see more updates!! Bake at 200 degrees and u will not damage them....even if u forget there in the oven....I did mine with no problem

They're just like most headlights.  They use a butyl type of sealant.  It becomes very pliable with heat.  Just remove all the lights and wire, the few screws, bake at the aforementioned 200 degrees for about 15 minutes, and gently pry.  
I use a straight razor to cut the sealant so I don't get it all over the place.  Pry, cut, pry, repeat.

Not all ovens are created equally (Electric vs. Gas).  I baked a Q F50 LED tail in about 12 minutes at 200 degrees.  Luckily it was a spare that I just wanted to use to look at the internals.  Looks good so far

I bake for about 20-25 mins in oven (gas) and used a small flathead screwdriver (on bottom) of light and pryed apart,  the orange reflector is a lil bucket that just screws out, reseal with fresh silicone and rebake for 15-20 minutes

Ebay guy selling the trunk lid flaked on me...

I won the trunk lid for $100 + $100 shipping.   Waited a few days since he said he was looking to package it up.  Then I get an email asking for $80 more for shipping.   This is a guy that has almost 1000 feedbacks with I think about upper 90s% good.   I looked at what he sells and its usually jeep parts.   I email him telling him you should have known the price for shipping since he ships things like this.   He then just sends me back a refund via paypal...UGH!!!   I offered to only give $20 more and that $180 sounded ridiculous just for shipping since I have shipped greddy exhaust for half that and I don't even have a UPS account.   So I'm waiting for the 7 days to pass which then I'll leave him a useless negative.

Car is coming together fast!  And you did get the kouki JDM center. I like it much better than the US 97-98.  The little bit of extra chrome around the edge does wonders.

The box looked like ass...   A part did break on the headlight but I'm going to glue it back....   This guy used fruit boxes to ship the headlights...luckily he used ALOT of bubble wrap.

Today installed the JDM headlights I got off ebay.   The exact same seller I got the JDM tail lights from.   

So to get to the bolts for the headlights are just two on top and 3 in the back.   Battery and air filter box needed to come out to get to the rear bolts.   All 10mm.    That isn't all...you need to take the bumper off slightly because the HID ballast sits on the bottom of the headlight housing and can't come straight out without hitting the bumper.     To make things easier jack up front of car and place jack stands.   Take both wheels off.   Take both side front underlining off.   Bumper skin has some tabs on top and 4 10mm bolts right next to the headlights.    In the fender well you will need to take 3 10mm bolts that mates the bumper to the fender...This has to be done both sides.   Then the 6-8 10mm bolts on the bottom of the bumper(This you might not need to do since you just need to move the bumper skin forward enough to clear the HID ballast.     

The headlights look very similar except for a few little things...BUT the corner blinker/small light is different.     Instead of splicing into the harness I opted to cut the USM chassis harness connector and soldered the pigtails from the JDM corner lights.     It's strange...the USM corner light connects right up to the connector...but the JDM has a pigtail that goes to 2/3 the other side of the headlight lamp and connects there.     Anyways Black goes with Black...Red/Green goes with Red/Black....and the last 2 pair you can figure out..(I don't remember)     The rest of the headlights is plug and play such as HID/highbeam/leveler.   I tested the headlight aiming level switch and it works.    Problem is I think the left headlight is abit too high.   I know the JDM has a different beam pattern but it's definitely shouldn't be that different from the right.

The SP-1 that will be here soon are brand new...however I bought another set of 20" SSR Noble used with bad offsets off a friend.   20x8.5 +37 20x10 +49...  I believe now its going to be around 20x10 +0~+6 and 20x11.5 +19ish...   I don't care for exact numbers right now since I'll be doing fender work to make them fit.

Just so everyone knows the lighting at night isn't great in the parking lot...actually it's pretty bad




Anyways so today I went to greyhound to pick up my trunk lid.   Man another shitty packaging job...one layer of bubble wrap and one corner edge had a foam block and the other I guess went missing....and the rest of it wrapped in plastic wrap.    What a bummer...guess people are going cheap on packaging these days.   So couple corners are scratched up and one corner is slightly dented...and the top flat surface has some door ding like dents.    I guess it doesn't really matter since I'll be repainting it but still WTF!   Trunk and door lock went on without a hitch.  Lights and finish panel fit pretty well too.   Just need to redo some wiring now with wire loom and tons of e-tape and zip ties. 

I test fitted the jdm wing I got from Panda Garage?  in SD.   Anyways it mounts with some permanent bolts that stick out from the top of the trunk.   Need to drill 4 holes.   So what I did was use RTV on the tips of the bolts and lined up the wing at the bottom near the finish panel and slowly lowered the front of the wing and pressed the bolt tips against the trunk top surface.   Left 4 RTV spots but ran out of time and didn't have my drill at home...so will do tonight or tomorrow.

I think when the car goes into paint I'm going to get that grey part painted body color and leave the chrome trim alone.

Also last week got a tire patched...slow leak.   It was a small metal splinter...couldn't believe that would make a puncture hole.

I know I'll regret moving so fast...  I should be savoring it but I'm bored and I don't have any car payments and insurance is cheap.    That is why I opted for this car rather than a brand new car.

F50 is faster as in acceleration off the line and pretty much everywhere else...  F50 was alot more responsive...this Y33 is  seriously a boat.  People say its because bigger motor and a better transmission.

nice work! I always felt my Y33 was pretty quick until I got my M45 and yeah, compared to the VK45 in the F50/Y34, yes, it's a boat lol. Still for the year they came out, they hold their own. I love the 97-98 rear wing w/ LED's, people always asked me what brand it was. I always had a few of the LED's out though, are all yours working?

actually I probably will but waiting to get my civic back from the body shop so I can leave the Q in the garage while I take some stuff apart...   I'm now more of the type to work on the car for days..little things at a time rather than everything in 1 day.   Gives me time to think about what I'm doing and do things right way.   

I contacted Ralph Wright today on status of my wheels.   The pair I'm getting new 4.5" lips put on are in pieces and waiting on the lip to arrive.    Estimated time of completion is 1.5weeks.   I've got to see how those turn out and see which I decide to keep and use on my Q

what's the difference between the jdm finisher panel and the usdm? i searched but couldn't see a difference.

I think the chrome trim around the license plate recess is different on the USDM and JDM. It is super subtle.

yeah hard to see but the wheel center cap is the carbon fiber SSR logo one.  matches the carbon roof,mirror,lip,rear diffuser,roof spoiler and the black matches the kidney grills and side gills.

Slowly but surely....   I finally fixed the messed up thread on the top mount shaft.   Thanks Rob!!  and then I took some measurements and that is all for now.    If anyone is curious about those mounts I bought they were about $350 for the pair...I'm just going to use it for the rears.   Fronts are designed alittle different so it should work out fine.   

BTW I cut the bumpstop for more travel...  I just left the top part of the bump stop which is the largest piece.   I might have to put the middle section of the bump stop on too but not sure yet since the top bag plate design is not flat.

In these 2 last pics the lower bag mount adapter is at 4 inches from top of gas tube to the top of the bag mount.   After I install the bags I'll figure out what Psi I want and then figure out the height after that.

He only made a few and said he wasn't going to make anymore.   The guy and I think his family makes custom bikes..so that's why I think he had the resources to get these made.

Yeah shortening the base clamp section would have been sufficient in my opinion too...  It definitely would have given me more room to play with.

These were designed off D2 and Ksport coilovers.   I got 1pc sent to me to test if it would work on my Algernon coilovers.   It fit like a glove.   I'm sure it would fit alot other companies as well.

The EP3 Civic Si popped back into my life and working on that so things slowed down on the Q.   

Civic Si:
Middle of replacing clutch/pressure plate/flywheel
Got the wilwood brake upgrade ready to install with Motul RBF 600
Fixed oil leak from a modified oil pan when the car used to be turbo
Cleaning subframe and sway bar and body from oil caking on the past 70K miles
Fixed the fender/bumpers/rear hatch all painted body color
Replaced driver side window regulator, exterior trim and rubber seal
Replaced passenger side lock actuator and rubber seal
Replaced headlights with Type R rep DEPO lights
Ordered and waiting on new front motor mount and installing energy suspension inserts.

About to order Megan coilovers and camber kit.  Progress rear sway bar/tie bar.  17x8" RPF-1 with some grippy tires.  

Going to get the driver side and rear hatch windows retinted

All that right there took alot of money and time....trying to save money.   First time doing a clutch.

I've ordered a few more parts from UAS.   Going to be using the Accuair eXo Mount system and ordered a air bag bracket for coilovers and some more fittings.

I've also ordered again new trims for the front windshield.   I want to replace it with a new windshield and order new passenger splash guard and some misc trunk parts so I can use the key to open it.    Also new torsion bars since the 97-98 trunk lid with the wing is so heavy my 00-01 bars can't handle the weight.  Already hit my head with the trunk lid...

Today went to Autofashion to see Freddie and picked up JP stainless pillars, JP mascot and some Belleza stuff.

Got the rims back... they look good...

After remeasuring and doing some math I think these are the specs now....

The Lo faces were taken off the rear wheel barrels and the front hi disk face was put in place.   The barrel was untouched.   Therefore now the fronts are 20x10 with a hi disk.    Then the front barrel which is 20x8.5 were taken apart and a 4.5in out hoop/lip was added and then the Lo face was attached to it.   Original lip on the 20x8.5 was 3in...  So roughly 1.5in was added to the outer.  In both front and rear barrels the inners were the same.

Interesting but even if the inner stayed the same. The offsets would still seem to be too high even on the 8.5 your only adding to the outer. The way I understand it. Or maybe I'm miss reading it.  None the less I hope it all works out.

yeah... we discussed this in another topic.. but yeah it's not as low as I thought it would be.   no matter what you add to the inner or outer the offset only changes by half of the difference.

you are scaring me!!!!   shit I dunno.   I've only test fitted the original size rims of 20x10 +49 up front and it barely cleared the stock suspension.   so I figure 20x10 +19 would give me 30mm more clearence.   I'll have to see once I put the suspension on.

I just did it based off my setup.  I messed up twice with wheels so anything I can do to help.  I don't want to see u go down the same road and possibly rub bag.  I did it all. I think I made every possible mistake u can make in building a car.

ugh...  I guess I'll just not get tires and wait until I get the air suspension in and give a tireless test fit.

if it cleared with a low disk it will be fine with a high disk.

Mine is a 10.5 -10 on a high disk for the front and considering his is a 20 he is bringing the wheel to the bag. With my new adjustment I'd rub without a 3-5 mm spacer. And I'm only about 3/4 of a inch lower in the front than my previous setup.  If it was not 20s.  He may clear by a hair. On a low disk from my experience he should be no higher than +10.

My bad BlkonBlk...   The original rears had a 2in outer barrel and 2.5inches was added...making it 8.5width to 11 width.    Instead of looking at the rears as 8.5 to 11... lets look at it as if I took the 20x10 +49 Lo and took that apart and stuck on a 1 inch bigger lip.   That works because the inner barrels are the same front and rear.   and as we all know 1 inch more just brings it down only roughly 12-13mm in offset.   Making it +37 in the rear.

I think now it might be 
20x10 +19 (73mm)
20x11 +37 (98mm)

Never question if the numbers are right. I had +19 fronts on a low disk and it rubbed.  Had +16 on O disk and it rubbed the fitting on a 9.5. And like I said im on a 10.5 -10 h disk.  Unless he is going to ride like a truck I'm a lil skeptical of him driving low or not touching bag when slammed. No harm in running a test fit before he purchases wheels.  Pcakes is on airrunner. Im pretty sure he is running negatives because he is not running a brake upgrade and airrunner is a sleeve suspension. The weds are 19s I believe. And if u check rimtuck.com just for reference everyone is sub +10 1997-2001

lol. i was reffering to the calculations blitz made, not what will clear. i always forget about the lame a** y33 suspesnion with no uca. i remember running into the same clearance issue when i had uas/jic on my maxima.
 
yet another reason why the s chassis conversion owns y33 coillovers. with s13/14 you can just extend the mounting tabs.

uh oh...   

The algernon coilovers I bought has hubs on them with studs.   So I flipped the front rim face down on a cardboard box and put the front coilover studs into the bolt holes.   Keep in mind the brake rotors are not on the stud/hub so that would give me another I think 3-5mm.   The lower portion of the coilover (the body/sleeve) gets within millimeters from the rim.   Not touching but very close.    With stretched tires it shouldn't touch.   It does limit me on how low I can bring the bag down without touching the top of the tire.    I don't know how low my car will sit with the rims limiting me.     This is killing me.    I might just sell these then and just run the SSR SP-1 I have which are 19x9.5 +5 and 19x10.5 +5.  Even though these might need 5-10mm spacer atleast the smaller diameter of the rim will get me lower.

I didn't doubt you...  Original thought was that changing the faces around would drop the offset significantly.   However later OG pointed out that the offset only changes by half of the difference.   Therefore the fronts originally I thought were going to be near zero but turned out to be +19. 

Anyways back then my Weds LXZ were 20x10 +19 hi and it fit fine on the F50...  damn y33...

It can be a lot of work for something so simple, but you can get maximum drop this way. Cause some cars dont lay out all the way, this would guarantee that

Yeah but u in order to do that u are going to have to extend the wires cut fender and tuck wire. Same kind of work I'm getting done now.

Recently got some parts in that I've been waiting for a long time.   Now that the civic is out of the garage and driveable my Q went in and some work began.   Here are some pics of the DD controller and some switches I installed.  Switch is a cutoff to the compressors incase I don't want them to run.   The other switch I'm wiring for the front parking sensors.    I decided to cut the holes in the cup holder because it was the most convenient space available without tons of modding.   I thought about the ashtray idea but that required ALOT more time which I don't have.   I was going to place the toggle switch near the shifter but decided to keep all the controls clustered together.  The compressor and the VU4 are going to be mounted using the Accuair eXo Mount made for dual Viair 480C.

Might be the angle I took the pic but I think it's a 4gal.  It's the one UAS sells on their website.   The reason the center mount isn't centered is because there is a drain cock in the center at the bottom.   It might be because the 480c compressors are pretty big compared to the tank.   

Afterthis is done I should have an ok cargo space.   I could have put the compressors in the spare tire well but I wanted to keep the spare.

I don't think it looks that bad.   I intentionally exposed them since the tips are lit LED when on.   I thought about ashtray but I most likely would have had to go rocker switches rather than toggle switches.    Since the toggle switches are stainless it really doesn't look that bad.  Matches ok with the air gauge/switch.

I forgot to mention that I sold the SP-1 and Noble rims.   I do have an order on some weds kranze wheels.   It isn't getting here until maybe end of july...UGH!!

I'm still around and been busy at work.   I got the rear bumper on couple weekendends ago and half a side skirt.   I also bought some 19" Work D3S while I wait for my Weds to come in.   Also Ralph Wright polished my mouldings to a almost chrome like finish...  Taking those mouldings off without bending them was a bitch.   Since the outer tail lights are out I'll try heating them up with a heat gun to take out the amber lense..

Sweeeeet been wondering about this car!

So after thinking about the amber in the tail lights for months I finally decided to tackle the job.   I had a problem with the left lamp with moisture getting in.   I'm guessing its because of a failed attempt  to open them awhile back.   This week I decided to try what others were recommending.   I did the heat gun way instead of the baking since the heat can be more controlled to specific areas rather than heating up the whole thing.    Honestly it doesn't take alot of heat to soften up the glue.    You just have to keep moving along the part where the lens meets the back body.     Also because of the age and sun and moisture the silver lining on the inside was pretty worn away.   So went out to home depot and bought some silver metallic paint.   Sprayed it and started assembling an hour later.   Paint was still wet but I managed to not touch the painted parts.    I also went out and bought the most expensive silicone since I figure might as well since it's only $2-3 more and I only want to do this once.    Also while the lights were apart I gave it a good cleaning because a film develops on the inside just like how inside the car cabin the windows develop that film time to time...usually because of peoples breath.... I know this because my brother is a mouth breather and his windows makes me feel like I have cataracts.    on with the pics...

I put circles to show you where you should think about applying heat additional to the outer areas.   Remember you DON'T have to put any heat on the red lens outer at all... only the backing black part of the housing and the black plastic part where the trunk lid would normally sandwich between.

also remember to pry little by little as you go around the lens since there are so many places there is glue...

Man, gotta respect all that attention to detail...Love it, just read this whole thread awesome build!

Front bumper installed...   Had to open up pretty much all the mounting holes...some were slightly offline but most were just too small.   This is where a dremel shines.  Also installed theh foglights.   Suprisingly alittle modification was needed..    Also since the bumper was off I took the headlights out again and changed the corner lights to the chrome/amber.   So it blinks amber rather than white but when off it looks like its just clear.

yeah I reload and it's legal in california.  You don't need any permit or anything.   Guess what, I have a CCW too in California however it just expired and I said screw the renewal.  I'll just go hand to hand combat...  I haven't reloaded in months since so busy with everything else.   I reload 40S&W, 45ACP, 500MAG, 223REM, 308WIN and I could do 7.62x39 but I need to replace some pieces on the die..however I no longer have a gun that shoots that caliber so whatevers.

People say you save money and this and that...  In the end you end up going shooting more often and shoot more bullets... therefore you didn't save money really.    Some people just enjoy the fact that they are shooting bullets that they put together with exact specs as they like.

I have a LockNLoad Hornady progressive press with case feeder.  Hornady dies.  Lyman tumbler, RCBS case prep center, RCBS case trimmer with a bunch of other little knick knacks...   Reloading hangun ammo is easy....reloading bottlenecked rifle cartridges is a bitch...

after looking at your front end you would be a perfect candidates for eyelids

Before I forget I just took apart the front suspension and this is from memory:

This is just one corner...

Strut tower bar is 2 x 17mm bolts
Strut tower bolts are 3 x 14mm nuts
Tie Rod ball joint is 22mm nut (cotter pin) (I would remove this first to allow the strut to swivel giving you more access to bolts/nuts)
Lower Control arm ball joint is 22mm nut (cotter pin)
Brake caliper is 2 x 22mm bolts with washers (I suggest taking this off and the rotor to get alot more room to do the ball joints)
ABS sensor is 12mm bolt
Brake line attachment to strut is 12mm bolt
ABS line attachment to strut is 10mm nut
Sway bar link are 17mm nut on top and 19mm nut on bottom

Seperating the ball joints was a breeze using this tool from harbor Freight... I suggest EVERYONE buy one of these for $19.99.  Mine looks alittle different from the one on the site being silver and the bolt is alittle different.   Just to make sure loosen the nut on the ball joint and put it so the nut and ball joint tip is flush and then use this tool so you don't risk damaging the threads on the ball joint.

Almost finished with front suspension.   I just have to run the lines and hook up the air pressure sensor.   Then test it all out and make sure no air leaks and do my adjustments from there...

Thank you all....   I can't believe these took freakin almost 5 months to get.    I guess that's what happens when you order after the tsunami and when the FR faces are out of stock.   The wait was killing me and needed something so bought the D3S from Hawaii but I ended up never rolling on them.    

I do love the LXZ...ever since I saw Grant's (yokotas13) with them on his Y33.   

These will be my second set of LXZ brand new.  First set were 20x10 and 20x10.5 in chrome and those were damn expensive.   Funny thing is with the yen all screwed up I paid alot more for these 19s!!!

trying to figure out what tires to get.   I don't want Falken 452s...   I've been told by some friends that Hankook K110 stretch well so going to try those.   I was going to use the Nitto NT555 235/35/19 I have but I decided I want all the tires to match.

Today got half a day to mess around with the Q some more.   Installed Camber Arm, Traction Bar, and Toe arm.   I finished running the air lines but I haven't cut to length yet because I'm not sure how I want to setup the trunk.   Camber arms are almost maxed out.   I just did enough to see where I was at with the rim.

yeah I think I do too.   I ran out of time and had to go to work.   I can just slide under real quick to adjust that.   But I don't think I'll be driving this until I get it aligned.   I have AAA Premier membership so I get 100mile tows for free.  I'm going to use one of them to tow it to my shop I get alignments done at about 35miles away.

The right side is actually really toed in compared to the left.   It's because I did the right side first and had to extend it to get the bolt aligned and forgot to retract it afterwards.

Yeah, no point in messing(spending time) with it if you aren't going to do anything to the body. Just safe that ish for the alignment place, you gotta pay them anyway.

Definitely not cheap.   You can get a quote from Autofashion or any other vendors on this forum.   Just to let you know the dollar is very weak compared to the Yen so if you are ordering these be prepared to pay more than expected.    Couple years ago I got a smoking deal on some 20" LXZ in chrome for alittle over $3000...    Now with the Dollar-to-Yen so messed up (Also material cost always goes up)   I paid alot more and they weren't chrome and they are only 19 inch.    I believe the Weds Kranze line to be on another level from any of the Work line wheels.

Today left the car with my bodyshop guy.   I'm going to do a color change.   It's more expensive then I thought but I got him to give me a break and going to skip some unnecessary mods.   Going to try and do it the right way though like taking apart the car including taking windshield and back glass off.

Thanks for the support guys.   This is costing me an arm and a leg to do and took me a week to pull the trigger.    However I'm using a paint guy I've used before many times and uses only the top tier and line of paint products.

I found out the real name of the color is Aurora Flare Blue Pearl... Color Code: RAY

I wanted to stick within the family for colors so I searched around some of the nissan/infiniti colors that were available.   I considered some brownish/copper kind of color but I know I'd get sick of it quick.    Then I saw the blue on some websites and was hooked.   My cold feet is slowly disappearing as I look at more pictures of the GT-R in this color.

Stopped by the bodyshop to see progress.  My guy says he's been backed up and things are moving slowly..  I kind of expected it so this is it so far.   I wanted to double check he's doing as he says and from the looks of it he took off almost everything except the front fenders which I know he didn't yet because it needs some work for the rims to fit.    He gave me an estimated time of end of the month...  so AF meet is looking like 80% I'll make it.

nothing was radiused...  quarter panel was just a roll and pull with the factory lines massaged to be more define since pulling kinda erased them.   The front I actually didn't touch anything... that is planned for next year to go lower but that isn't a big priority for me just yet.

sitting in garage at night with flourescent lighting right before I had to take the front bumper off to get to the corner lights to run the lines for the mirror blinker cover thingy.   Had the blinker covers moulded on so it almost looks factory like.   Need to figure out what to do with those bottom of door sweeper looking things.    Engine bay he paint the radiator support frame but everything else was semi gloss flat black.   Also the inards of the trunk area...even though you won't see it once the liners are on.    This paint looks different in different kinds of lighting.

thank you all...   It has pretty much been a year since I bought the car and it's been alot of fun.    Car is back with the bodyshop and getting some stuff retouched up and finally detailed.   Also I'm going to have to get the tint redone since some overspray somehow got into the door.  I'm going to keep it green still.  Also ordering the belt moulding on the rear doors since they got bent up while taking them off.   Nothing planned for audio and to tell you the truth I don't really want it.   But if I run out of stuff to do I'll consider it.

thanks guys...  sucks the sun didn't really poke out but it was a great turnout.    The drive from HB was fun even though I had to drive an extra 50min for it.   Good meeting some old faces and some new ones...   Now I reseted my clock and got another full year to mess with my car for next years festival...   stay tuned.

Shit.  This is ill. I'm back to relaxing and enjoying VIP. I was a little worried rocking the same kit but the car looks different good . Love the styling ques. Blue tint. Blue and cream and the lxz's are my all time favorite. I'm going to make every attempt to get to Cali next year. I still have a few tricks up my sleeve. Don't count me out yet. Lol.

a guy in Irvine.   Dynamic Eddie knows him well too.   Does alot of project cars for big companies.   Does this on the side in a well equiped facility.    Cash only and it's not cheap.    If serious I can get you his contact.

see, that is the trouble with a lot of people now days. 

People want a fantastic paint job, with little to no money. Or try to barter with the price.. But if you want fantastic you have to pay a good fantastic price. Cause when it comes to paint, you get what you pay for if you dont do it your self. And even then, if you (like my self) can paint.. then you are worth every dime you pay for.

I think it was 35 but you could call Norman at VIP+TINT since he's the one who did it.

Wow Blitz, I like the car.  I've always liked the Y33 Q because I'm used to seeing them in Japan.  The F50 is considered more of a "hire" which is like a limo type vehicle in Japan.  The Y33 to me is more of a VIP car than the F50.  I like it.  I hope one of these days I'll get to see it in person.:biggthumpup:

Same guy that painted my car.   I'm not sure how much he'll charge because he doesn't normally roll/pull fenders.   I went and borrowed a fender roller to give to him to use.   It wasn't enough and they hammered some parts but I'm not sure where.   All I know for sure is he didn't have to cut and weld and all that stuff all these people seem to do and its a 19x10.5 -13 with Megan camber arm maxed out.

From the price I got for my car I would say a 2 door 240sx would be around 4K.   Now this is doing things properly and using good paint.   You could cut corners and it'll be about 2.5K-3K but you are talking about not taking anything apart and just a bunch of masking things off.

Cutting corners on a car just means you are faking the funk to play the game. Only corner cutting should be the corners in houses to make rounded ones

Basically you get what you pay for...    I've talked to numerous people and had seen cars done 2-3K and there are many faults.    I'm not saying 5K paint job won't have faults but very few and very hard to spot.    I know my car and I can find tons of things I don't like but that is with almost 99.9% of paint jobs because nothing can match a factory paint job.

Futuras came in the other day.   Came in earlier than planned which is always great.  Trying to get my new wheels done ASAP to clear these...  Great looking calipers and have yet opened the box with the rotors but I'm sure I won't be disappointed.  8pot front 6pot rear in yellowish metallic like finish.

LOL I didn't think of that.   I didn't go to UCLA but my younger brother did maybe he'll like it more then me.   The new rims that are being built right now are going to be chrome and gold so might be changing lugnuts to match the calipers.   Trying to find some nice gold looking lug nuts but having trouble finding clean looking ones with closed ends.   

I'm leaning towards these McGards since they have that spinning washer which minimizes rim damage plus some locking capabilities.

Those wheels are going to look great with the brakes. Especially when rolling. You will be able to see right through the spinning spokes. AMAZING.

VR has TONS of wheels for sale that aren't on the site.  Only the rebuilt wheels go on their site.   

Jermaine, I passed on the wheels we talked about because it is not worth the money AT ALL.    I see why nobody else has gotten it yet.   That wheel will definitely take a hit when put up for sale used.   The look is nice though.
