LS1 swap
Is there any kits to drop in an ls1 into a y33? Or is it possible to run a sikky 350z or 240sx kit? I havent seen anything on engine swaps that isnt over 2 yrs old!

if you already have the motor set, just fab up some engine and tranny mounts. of go to a vendor on here like "OG" and have him make this for you at his shop! you could be the first to have this done, and if it works kinda straightforward you wouldn't be the last!

No kits available, and kits for other cars probably won't work. Better off just buying LS1 mounts and modifying them. Cheaper than buying mounts for a different chassis, as you will end up cutting those up beyond recognition. You are heading into uncharted territory...

Yeah I already have the engine, picked up an LS1 with 42k original miles. I haven't picked up a transmission yet bc I'm thinking of doing the automatic to keep the original interior of the car unless the japanese version of the q45 has a manual trim package but I don't know where to find that info. Well there is a place here in Garland, TX that could probably do some custom fab mounts but I was wondering if there was anything already on the market for the swap, bc I've noticed that ppl use some S14 and 350z suspension parts so I thought maybe someone could tell me if either the sikky 350z or S14 lsx swap mounts would work. But thanks for the encouragement and yeah I know if i do it others will follow but that's ok, now I just gotta find a good shell or cheap q45 with a black interior to get the project started. =D

To be honest those arent to big a deal headers are modifiable, they sell harnesses and ecu that i can run to a custom gauge cluster, plenty of excellent tuning shops where i live, and i just need measurements for the drive shaft for driveshaft shop, im doing the same kind of swap on my 71 camaro so ive already done a lot of research. :)

Just from reading your posts in this thread I would suggest you didn't attempt this.
Cross breading manufacturers isn't the easiest thing in the world and if you were to pay someone to do that 6k is just breaking the ice.

I realize it wont be cheap, but someone has to try it plus im willing to take that risk! and i have a friend thats gonna do the work, and i was just throwing a number out there it'll probably be more like 10k! lol Thanks for the encouragement though!

nah, you already have the motor so scratch that out of the cost. the fab work is being done by a friend so labor shouldnt be too much, most of your money will go into the plug-n-play harness and standalone computer...then tuning, all the other stuff is just a couple bills here and there. my buddy did a vq35 swap in his s14 for next to nothing cuz he had most of the parts already and him and his buddy did all the fab work  his most expensive purchase was the haltech ems and getting it tuned

It's more than just money, money is a huge part if someone other than yourself is doing the swap.. Especially because of the large amount of time/labor figuring something like this out for the first time.
Know-how is a bigger part than the money issue. Even "experienced" mechanics won't know where to start with something like this, especially if you are trying to do it correctly have still have functioning accessories.
I would suggest not using Standalone if you do decide to do it. OEM ecu's are great for a DD, and super reliable. Especially with how easy it is to tune the OEM lsx ecu. I have an oem Aristo ecu in my Q, starts everytime.

I know i did a nissan sr20 in my ae86 corolla so its not my first, but yeah im gonna stay with the oem ecu and get a single race gauge cluster! :) The car wont be a DD but i want to keep the engine stock anyway, i might do the ls6 bolt ons but that would be it!

Anything is possible. But you should listen to these guys. It's really easy to plan stuff out (aka daydream), but the execution is where things might get real tough real quick. I hope everything has room to fit, but you should be prepared for the possibility that they won't. But hey, guess you don't know unless you try, so get that motor mock fitted and check it out. I'll bet you $5 you're gonna have to hammer the shit out of the trans tunnel to fit a T56 under there (you did say manual right?). Here are some areas where I think things might get "hairy"
Headers / Exhaust
ECM / Wiring
Gauge Cluster
Fuel System
Manual Conversion
Driveshaft
Good Luck! If you are going through the trouble, you might as well mod the motor. Heads/cam and the right tune should put you at around 450whp. Or if not, use the spray. At the very least put a cam. Make it sound animal.

You don't need a standalone for ls1 swap. You just need factory PCM and hp tuner. Putting the motor in is not too difficult if you know how to fabricate. Making your gauges work is another story...

Yeah i know its gonna be rough but ive seen things far more insane on my other forum pro-touring.com! lol But im not really sure which trans yet, probably will go with the auto! And as far as mods go ill be doing heads and cams, pretty much the ls6 bolt ons bc my ls1 is from an 02 corvette which actually comes stock with the bigger ls6 intake! Dont worry, Youll def hear it coming! =D

never understood why "drifters" do this swap. i've heard some say that its cheaper to upgrade and reliable, but if you add up the cost to install the motor + upgrades is pretty much the same cost to upgrade a VQ/SR/KA IMO. GL with the swap, i'll be tuned in to this thread :)

cuz its one of the easiest to find/cheapest swaps for the money and power...in a v8 platform. i'm sure there is a way you can get your factory gauges working with the swap...atleast all but the speedo. my buddy has a vq swap in his s14 and has yet to get it calibrated/working....but his tach works so thats his speedohhhhmeter

Just "got" it a few days ago kinda.. My boy had a s13 he used to drift but it got totaled. Before that happened, one of his boys had a 02 Corvette that was totalled from the rear. He kept the Corvette to save the motor for the s13 but now that its totalled there is no use for it. So I told him to give me a few months to save up and Ill buy the rest of the Corvette from him including the motor and we can go from there. He said its been sitting for almost a year already but he said he's ready to let it go because he is running out of storage space. I might be able to get it from him early and make payments on it.
As for price, still working it out but he said no more than $3k including the rest of the Corvette (he said "basically everything from the doors forward is still intact"). Im just waiting for my boy with the s13 to get back from Colorado (He's been stationed out there for a few years) in July so I can go see the Vette and make sure its worth my time.
