east coast previa build

Hi, names Eric started on my build couple weeks ago. Bought all i have gotten done so far is airride, clean up interior and put on some 16in Acura wheels i had sitting around, I have some 19x8et30 dv5s to go on it just have not ordered tires yet.  The fronts are airlift universal struts and the rears are bubble bags with procomp Toxic shocks. I went manual valves so i could save some money since this is going to be on a budget beings its my daily. I have an LS400 that i already have some time and money into so the previa may take a few. i really like it alot with the honda rollers. interesting tank placement though lol.

Nice Nice !! AS Shawn said great start !!  Let me know if you needed any of JDM conversion parts for the Van, we have pretty much most of the bolt on stuff in stock.

Thanks guys. I am sure I will be getting some estima parts for it. I think I have decided on the origins kit because it is priced really well. And as for tank placement. That's the best out of the way place in the van that I could think of.  I am not putting the rear flip bench back in because I am always carrying parts to and from work so it seemed like it would be fine there, and the compressor is mounted between the rear seat and the van side out of the way.

For grins and giggles i pulled the two fronts off my LS and stuck them on one side 19x9et15(rears are 10et12 that was real funny) HA ya sat on tire. Had close to in inch more to go down lol

The front would work if I went down to 215/35s. With the 9s on the back it sat on the tire with almost an inch of tread outside the wheel well  but the 10et12 on rear poked almost 2ins

get some fender work done and roll those!

Its a possibility.  I just ordered 2 tires for the wheels I bought for the van.   They fit very good with just rolling fenders. When test fit them I'll post a pic. Just test fitted with 2by4s underneath wheel and they fit pretty good

Got these brand new for super cheap then painted them gold because when van is done it will be all white. Going to try to get back down a little more if i can then i will get front down a little more also. Sorry for not so good pics i am no photographer by no means.

Thanks   they are bigger in person than in the pic  They are 19x8et30 w/215/35/19 nittos. They fit pretty flush with just rolling the fender lip.

Any pics of the air install? Mainly the front. Just wondering how you did it.

Thanks man!  The front is a blank AIRLIFT strut that comes with 1/4in plates that you weld on to fit your application. also altered the oem top plate to work on the airlift strut. basically you mock it up where you think it will go the lowest and not effect anything and weld it up. they go from 16ins -20.9ins and have dampinging adjustment. work pretty good in my opinion just takes some work. Right now the cv axles sit on the frame,  i think a have 1/2in-3/4in left to go down in the bag if i notch it the frame.

Well started on some body work this week. Going to be a slow go cuase i do a lot of work on others peoples cars so i have to work on mine between others.
Did some rust repair on the fenders,fixed a couple dings,rolled lip and primed them. Used a white guide coat so they didnt stand out so much in gray primer.

On the gold Wheels?   yes sucks wish they were directional for each side but they are not.  they were CHEAP though

well its been a couple weeks  still have made no progress to mention been swamped working on other peoples stuff.   Did replace the blower motor couple days ago.  THAT WAS FUN.  but fairly cut and dry.  Hope to have some work done in the next couple weeks.

2WD Suspension will work with the Alltrac suspension.

Not necessarily. One of our friends from overseas has cusco coils and he is slammed just as low as air. Only difference is he can't adjust height with a switch if a button hehe

Well still been swamped with other people's cars trying to make some money so still no good progress on the previa. BUT!!!  I sold my LS so I have money to start orderig some parts for Previa. Oh. I did tint the front windows with 35% bronze to match the rest of van and 50% on windshield with a 5% sunstrip across the top. Will post pics tomorrow.

Finally got those tint pics (i am slack i know) 35% bronze on the sides to match the factory best we could 5% sunstrip on top of windshield and 50% on the rest of the windshield.

Have to get it straight first it is a primer that i am putting on it now with a white guide coat so it does not look 100% like primer.   It is/was pretty beat, road hard all 279000 miles that are on it. Have A nissan burgandy picked out.

so with the FWD system popping,making noises and holding the van up some figured I would pull it all out :-) Still drives fine and got it about another 1/4in down and now bags are bottomed out.

Getting ready to move to Franklin Va.  That's a hair over 2hrs from Raleigh.  Met a guy from tenn in Raleigh and sold him my LS400 a couple months ago

well stilling waiting on kit and tails to come in from over seas and i got bored one day :-) I had a huyndai suv bumper siting around the shop from a totaled one and it is about the same size as the preiva bumper. Soooo I cut the top off and made a bumper overlay its not awesome or perfect just something to give the van somemore character while waiting on kit.

Got bumpers fitted. Actually fit pretty good just had to make the mounting holes. Used the stock lower bumper braces, bent them and used the middle slat on bumper to mount them.

Sweet build man,  I've been lurking for a bit.  I actually just bought myself a previa pretty recently,  but gonna use it as a daily since my truck is gonna get all the attention for a bit first.  You still in NC?  I'd be interested in your windshield whenever you install your new one.

In Franklin. About 30mins from emporia.   The windshield has wiper marks.  And is original I believe. But if I get it out without breaking it it's all yours. You will just need a windshield molding.

You have better remove the windscreen. 
This what you cut out, what was on the windscreens edge. Was a part of the windscreen. I mean the seal.

Everything what you do now to glue it back will looking bad. Believe me. 

I made before 2 Years the same mistake. This seal sits originally between windscreen and body.

Windshield will be out and pinch weld all cleaned up before paint.  Have new windshield and OEM molding ready to go in after van is painted.  No worries on that.   Thanks though.   Actually pulling out ALL the glass before paint. And painting with the doors off so no nasty tape lines :-).

Down this side of NC as long as crack does not go through drivers view they pass it.  And raleigh is 2hrs from me

 Thank ya Sir,  Have a burgundy picked out.  Planning on having a color example next week.  New wheels next week also.   Decided on a cheaper used set so i can afford to do IRS sooner than later VS doing the new VIP MODULARS.  They would have been nice and Tong over there offered me an awesome deal but there was/is a lot i could do with the price difference between NEW and used wheels.  AWESOME guys over there. IF I do build a new set of wheels I am going to go with them and would refer anyone on going to them.

the front axles are resting in the frame.. cutting a notch in the frame so the axle sits in the notch will work.. We do this for the VWs alot..  but i see you took the whole front axle out

Thank you sir, I LOVE yalls sienna. In my application the cv axles were popping and making noise so i just thought it best to pull out front end VS rebuilding it and notching. Also thought that it may give me better MPG without the extra strain on the motor. Weather it did or not, not sure, since then i moved 3miles from work so its barly warm by the time i get there lol. But i am verfy familiar with the VW scene thats all i built for about 10 years. These 2 were my most recent worth mentioning. MK2 & MK5

THANKS!! Code is AX5 red merlot Nissan color. Painted the doors fenders sliding door and hood yesterday. Will get pics up tomorrow after i get them uploaded. This is the cowl panal for bottom of windshield. I am not a fan of windshield wiper squirters because of the fliuid sitting on paint. Not sure who would evan notice but i shaved the oblong holes that the squirter hoses went through. :-)

Rear wiper is deleted rear squirter is deleted and front squirters are deleted. Want to get another cowl panel and shave the front wipers too, and just put them back in for inspections. But that will be in future plans

Finally got passengers side skrt done. Cut the inner molded section out of plastic origial skirt and molded that into the fiberglass to make the clean inside edge

Last of the gloss black parts are done: sliding door slider, hatch lifts and i was on the fence to do the wiper arms gloss black since back of hood and cowl are both gloss, so thats what they got. Once i get it together if they look cheezy ill pull them off and do them satin

THANKS.  The black slide actually goes inline with black stripe all the way around the van so that was the only option for that.   Painting wheels hatch front filler and van itself this coming weekend. Then it will all be painted.   Me getting cost on paint, base alone is hurting my feelings. There is A LOT of surface area on these things

 my avarege side job using water base is 400-500 for materials for outside add another 200-300 if jambs are done also  so 600-800 in materials   i will have around 1500 in previa just in materials.  BUT  i did do a lot of blocking and priming cause this thing was BEAT.  Extra clear also just incase i decided to sand and buff whole thing. By 2015  I think the country is supposed to be to water base. Or a low voc solvent at least       EPA regulations.    It's humid as crap here during summer all it does is make the base dry a little  slower.  Europe has been using water for a long time now, most of Canada is water. And a lot of Cali shops have switched.  We have been using water a little over 2 years now at my shop in Va  Colors like better and match better because manufactories have been using water for some time now.

Completely different ball game. Way thinner and sprays out of a Sata gun just like normal solvent base.   Most automotive companies have a water line now. I use PPG AQUA BASE PLUS.  Very nice in my opinion

Do not have water clears yet just base coat.  The waterbase gets reduced with deionized water 10% for solids 20% for metallics and 30% for mid coats or candys.  seems thick when in cup but sprays thin.  Its kinda weird at first some colors look different in cup then when sprayed but you get use to it and the colors are very nice.  More brilliant in my opinion.  Better for enviromen,t but worse for painters, because the water gest absorbed into the skin and eyes and what not easier due to the fact that our bodys are made up of what?   95% water

Man I'm lovin this build! I live up in Maryland so hopefully you come up to some shows so I can see it in person. Ppl around here always think I'm crazy when I talk about building a van. This should change their perspective. Keep it up!

Ya FAIL. The smell is not as bad as solvent. The clear is not quite as bad.  its a new nicer HS clear  P190-6659 is my daily clear its a "1 visit" clear.  med tack coat let it sit for a min then slam on a slick coat and shes right.  Its funny if your spraying a mirror or something hanging and you walk around to other side and get misted by your base, its almost like a refreshing mist of water getting sprayed on you.  LOL

So decided to sand and buff. Doing panels between other things and trying to do them all off the van so i dont have the mess to clean up in the jambs and what not. 1st panel done. A lot of time and effort YEP!! worth it YEP!!

Ha. Ya.  Smells are way less.  But I use a SATA vision 2000 full face fresh air system so smells have been obsolete for a while.  And is like ac on your face in the summer  :-)

Well the second most pain in the ass of the build is done. the sliding door cladding. when you cut up the jdm skirt/cladding for passengers side to seperate them all you have left is a skin for the sliding door cladding. Hard to tell in pics but I made a metal frame to go around the outer edge, glued it to the cladding and molded it in. Then for mounting hardware I ground some bolt heads down flat and glued them to cladding. A pain, but done. (back side is not pretty but is functional)

Couple reasons.  No tape lines  and  since i was planning on sanding and buffing i wont have a crap load of compund to clean out of cracks and crevasis.  As for just sparaticly parts here and there,  I tried to squeze parts in with daily jobs to save me after hours work :-)

Shell got towed to work last night and most the way taped up. will be burgundy saturday morning  :-)

The water systems are more refined than the solvents. I have had no trouble with painting things apart and matching. Plus. I do as close to the exact same spray pass on everything I do with the same air pressure which really helps insure a consistent color

kouki,  All this good talk about water i forgot to mention the down side.  Which on the west coast you wont have as much problem as I do here.    HUMIDITY.   Started spraying this morning about 7.  80% humidity  its 9ish now and i am about at 95% humidity.  It slows down A LOT with humidity in the air.  Of course i pick the first real humid day of the year to paint this big tird.

SHELL DONE! Was a little worried about the giant beat to hell quarter and roof but came out real nice and straight. Sorry for the not so great pics, its raining here. Will try for some better ones monday.

 Ya its just dust on the stripe.  Stripe is solid black

Wheels painted. A buddy is polishing the lips for me they are still a little ways out. Hard to see in pics but wheels are a coarse silver then I put a couple coats of house of kolor silver mini flake over base, then clear.

 I was thinking of that also but they are a welded 3 piece so the lips and barralls are one, so not sure i feel like taping up lips to paint barrals since you dont really see them.  Maybe down the road.  Had other things i needed to spend money on.  Ordered the clear corners atleast.   Also, I actually like the factory 2 bar grill with the chrome strips in it.  Keeping the stock front setup will actually be different then everyone else because everyone else pretty much has the jdm lights.

Tails are smoked. Went a hair darker then front. Nothing crazy dont need more reasons for cops to harrass me

Sup man, Your TL is sick.   I make 9ozs of clear then add 4grams of black to it.  Normally do 2 coats of tinted clear then a third coat of regular clear over top of it so that it has UV protection. Or if someone wants stupid dark ill do 5 grams of black w/ 2 coats.

I have used actual dye, or a black pigment. Just cause some blacks are actually a brownish yellowish tint. The black dye or pigment can be found for candy's as well as for chroming paints

Cool have not tried dies.  One black I was using did have a yellowish hue to the clear parts of the lenses but the black I use now is greyer so it kills the yellow and is a nice tint.

Just throw some crystal flake into it. haha

Yyyaaaaaaaaa.   I probably should do flex additive for the front lights to help reduce rocks chips but I did not. Kinda one of those things I always remember to do when your done.    As for the tails. I never have used flex before, and have never had any problems,  and I have done A LOT of tail light setups for all different cars.

Custom with a K :-).  Jk.   Slam specialties double bubble bags.   Cut spring perches down for mounting plates so bags would sit lower and once it was right,  I ordered shocks from summit that the extended and collapsed numbers met my specifications.  They are from pro comps lowered truck line TOXIC SHOCKS

I'm digging these vans the more I see them.  Great work!

 They are actually SSR viennas.  But pretty much same things as the MAE crown jewells.    19x8et30 215/35/19    19x9et37 215/35/19   Will fit exactly like the DV5s except rear will sit out about 4mms more. But ill have more stretch.     What part of CT are you in?  I have a VW buddie that lives close to hartford and he does a lot of car stuff up there.

Well the exterior is finally about done. wheels on and washed up. Getting front windows retited today and windshield tinted. Here is a couple pics i snapped with my crappy camera. My buddie is going to take some today with his nice camera and edit them up all nice.

I made the door cap to fit flush with bottom of door not realizing the factory cap extended past the door and rolled around.  Didnt realize this till i had it together.   Going to enjoy it together for a while and when i get free time extend the door cap to make the gap even.

Man I need to refresh my van to keep up. ;)

I am going to go way out in left field here.. but you said you had your tint guy match as best as possible to the rear windows. I think you should source out the non tinted ones. I have seen them so I know they exist.. but get those, and have him do the same tint all the way around. I like the front windows waaaaayyyy better.

10 steps ahead of you.  Been looking for parts previas for clear glass but no such luck.  New after market will be looking at a grand plus just for the glass.  Not sweating it till interior gets in the works.   BUT I just picked up an Audi avant and can't decide if i want to play with that or start on van interior.     :-/.   What's VSC think about that?   Play with Audi or start on van interior?

  ha  have i mentioned that i suck on computers.    I seach craigslist everyday for misc stuff  but previas are kinda scarse anywhere close to me for whatever reason.   there has not even been one forsale within 200mis of me in a couple months i dont believe.

Got a muffler installed this weekend. Nothing awesome just something shinny to fill the hole for now :-)
