Post your Head Unit!

What's controlling your head bangin'?

Mine is stock for now, keep debating on whether to just put in an RCA out so I can upgrade the amp/woofer or put in a new HU. Don't know whether to go single/double/screen if I do go aftermarket.

Post up your awesome head units!

i just put in an avic z130bt, after going through a kenwood dnx7100, pioneer avic z2, alpine w505/p1 combo, and a pioneer avn4200dvd (my brother put that one in). photos coming in a bit -- going outside to upgrade the firmware right now

I'm stock right now with my 2GS and I love it. It sounds way better than my sister's 335i and she says so too. I've been looking for a head unit, but don't know any really good brands. Help?

Pioneer. My favorite brand I wouldnt trust anything else.. But I would be willing to try a top of the line Kenwood or Alpine.

Kenwood 9980...with custom Infinti logo splash screen...been a sales guyt for radios and car parts for 11 years and when i comes down to screens...KENWOOD handsdown....pioneer fell off the boat when they started doing all kinds of different configurations and alpines are just too plain still look almost like their first setups that rolled out in 02-03....eclipse was great and very expensive and now they are out of business

Pioneer z130bt I just installed in my 2gs
Not one complaint
Greattttt equalizer
Great picture
Great sound
Touch screen like an iPhone it's sensitive you don't have to push hard as you do for some other brands

My car came with a jvc double din
No comparison
Always loved pioneer but now that I have this pioneer I'm even more impressed with pioneer
The bluetooth hands free is AWESOME
the mic sends good quality voice and is clear unlike some other Bluetooth devices
Even my friends BMW has factory bluetooth and isnt clear
The navigation is great and has the traffic option
Built in hard drive

there are 2 blue/white wires on the infiniti harness -- both of them connect to the one blue/white lead coming off of your pioneer. problem is, your antenna is going to be up every time you start listening to music. the workaround is to wire a switch in or leave it unconnected, which is what i did

Ok thanks. I was going to leave it unconnected but my radio reception sucks and sometimes I need something generic to throw on when the girl is riding with me. My next headunit will def have Pandora.

Ohhhh I see, I was reading reviews on the Metra harnesses and they said they won't do too well with 2v preouts. How does your Pioneer sound with that harness? I was planning to get the radio that you have but a JVC caught my attention since it has a knob for the volume and it's a 4v preout instead.

What jvc unit u looking at? If u want I can check with the shop I'm getting my coilovers from (RSM Motorsport ) how much they have the unit your looking for.

i dont know anything about head units-can anyone give me a basic rundown of the benefits other than just getting rid of an outdated radio?
i have the nakamichi system in my ls and would love some more power to my sub without adding an amp..too many wires etc..
any head units that would make that possible? *end noob question*

You can run a JBL MS-8 with your factory headunit and add amps, subs, and components....line level inputs so it's an easy integration. I have one on my GS with my stock Levinson system/headunit.

I am weird when it comes to stereo systems. For me, I would much rather update the speakers and leave everything stock. I am all about clarity and some bass. I do not like my sound to be drowned out over bass. Nor do I like the Treble to be louder to compinsate for the mega bass. It has to be studio like and not over kill. It is almost impossible to make perfect sound in a car. I would much rather spend that money on home theater music

true that! i just know my rear sub is only getting what like 150w and id love to get
maybe 3-500 watts at least runing to a sub while just upgrading the old stock speakers from 93.
im sure i could just throw a small amp in the back since they dont make any head units to do something like that
I am weird when it comes to stereo systems. I would much rather spend that money on home theater music
we are. I am 31. But have been that way since the begining really. Never got into stereo stuff cause I was to busy driving cars that were stripped out. Way ahead of those rice days where people wanted big systems and drag racing. haha

I'm older than all of you and include systems in all my builds! I'm more of an SQ guy and don't like huge subs with a lot of boom..... Heck, I'm so old that I tune my system with Steely Dan.....

Post your Head Unit!

The old units are better imo, nowadays its all about touchscreen and looks versus the quality of the sound output, idk just my 2 cents

I see your point, some of pioneers top level screens really pique my interest, but past that, i don't have too much interest in the current stuff (im sure the lower level stuff is nice too, i just havent followed it!)

it's true that features have taken priority to sound quality, but unless you're doing a super high end sq system it makes more sense to go for the features. the signal is only as good as the speaker that reproduce them after all. there are still current bare bones, 24bit, copper chassis, dead head units for the die hard audiophile; but most people will do just fine with the feature packed units that are popular today.
